    Also, this Chris Bowen thing.
For a party that was blamed as being completely tone deaf at the last election to immediately put this dude up as a future leader shows that they are still pretty ****ing tone deaf.

There is absolutely nothing the ALP could do to win an election. They don't offer anyone on any side of the political spectrum anything worth voting for.

To be honest all they are is a party for people that don't want to vote LNP. That's it.

All the candidates have very punchable faces.
I’d be putting forward Tania Plibersek. At least you’ll only get the run n cuddle people thinking she was a punchable face.
I know she doesn’t want it, she’s clever.

Seriously though. There are zero people in politics that you are thinking, oh yeh, this guy or lady sounds like they know what to do.

Almost like we need a tragedy so somebody can step up and show some balls.
NZ PM post shooting, QLD Premier post cyclones, that’s inspiring leadership. Easy to do when something significant happens, I know, but that’s what people want.
Ffs even some Americans felt inspired by Trump and voted him in, and to those that voted for him, he is probably doing a good job.

Australian elections are literally voting for the least worst candidate.

exactly, so why put up the very worst candidate you have?
i mean, you gotta at least pretend to try yeah?

as for Plibersek, dont be fooled. She wanted it, and wanted it badly. but her and Albo belong to the same faction, and he had the numbers so she 'couldnt' win.

Bowen was put up by a different faction in the party. Not because hes good, or worthy, but because a group of spineless pricks felt they 'needed' to put someone up because thats how these parties operate......instead of, yanno, deciding someone is toxic and keeping them the hell away from the position.

Things couldnt have worked out better for ScoMo. All of the old brigade Libs have gone (esp the Turnbull sycophants), everyone left owes him a debt for getting them back in, so at least that side of politics will be stable for a bit. plus, your Duttons/Freydenbergs etc now know leadership aint for them, so they'll keep the good perks and retire happy when the time comes.

who knows, we might go a full term without someone getting knifed.

The people voted in the Libs because nobody does Lib better. ALP are trying but they are not as good at being Lib yet.

Wait, so the party that actually had policies to put forward is the one with nothing to offer? And the LNP who just sat on their hands and hoped they'd won offer something to people?

I think you are trying to make a point about them appearing dead in the water, but you failed to do so.

I'd say Labour are early favourites to win the next election, just because that's how politics swing over the long term. People are pretty lazy when it comes to politics, everyone just blames their own problems on the incumbent and votes against them every once in a while. This election will be forgotten in about 3 months time and it will all start fresh. There's a big difference between election time politics and every day politics.

    The Liberals had policies.
They just didnt resonate with the loud online people like Labors did.
Plus, when you're the incumbent, it looks a bit daft to go "hey elect us and we'll change everything we've been doing for the past 6 years".
Their policy of 'more of the same', and 'less of what that lot will do' seemed to work.

Ops. I missed a bit of that paragraph when I edited it.

I meant to say that it was a great idea and worked to perfection. But that it's not like they are offering much to people in comparison to Labour. Liberals did everything well this election, labour didn't. But I don't like the idea that Labour should stop what they are doing and try to copy liberals approach of "it ain't broke, so don't fix it" cause we are maybe 5-10 years away from the thing breaking.

Their best chance to win an election was the other day and then they went backwards

You living some delusion if you think they getting re elected anytime soon

Do you need a tin foil hat as I have spares

There's as much evidence to prove my statement as there is yours. None.

Keep a hold of your spares in case the wind picks up, or you need to cover some left overs.

Keating won the unwinnable election, he was out of office 3 years later to the bloke that went on to be the 2nd longest serving PM in our history.

This is from the ALP's constitution. It has been there since day 1 as far as I know.

"The Australian Labor Party is a democratic socialist party and has the objective of the
democratic socialisation of industry, production, distribution and exchange, to the
extent necessary to eliminate exploitation and other anti-social features in these fields."

So yeah. Hijacked by socialists? **** off the party has always been socialist. Also some trivia. The Australian Labor Party was the first socialist party anywhere in the world to actually get power when it briefly ruled Queensland in 1899.

    Oh hi guys

Which based on this graph demonstrates just how little people consider economic factors when they vote.

Get the marketing right, get the media to back you all the way and you can win any election regardless of how shit you are performing as a government.
