It really is pathetic sometimes how low we set our bar.............and still always seem unable to reach it.

What is pertinent to look at is last night showed how many things that HAL and Aussie football are failing in that we can and should be fixing and that the HAL is actually failing us

Lets not just bury our heads in the sand and say the Japs have more money better players than us as that is naive

Lets look at some things that we can improve

Defending for a start. The standard of Aussie defending is not good enough period..Now what exact skill set do ypu need to be world standard at defendimg ?? Because you dont find it in the FFA curriculum of Keep Ball

This is an area that we can easily improve in drastically which would make us more competitve

Fitness condidering the Japs were in pre season and we well into ours the fitness levels between those sides are mot.good enough. Our blokes are full time pros sports science in Oz is world class. Why exactly are we not fitter than them or on par

Speed to the ball- The anticipation to the ball by the Japanese was chalk and cheese between us. They were 1 step quicker to the ball than us all night long. If it was about to be free their reaction to the opportunities was a second quicker than ours
This should not be the case

Pressing. The organisation and speed and discipline to pressing by the Japanese put us under the pump because under the Dutch Mango suckers we believe in keeping the ball at all costs but also refuse to dribble or play risky balls forward. This can be noticed by Dimi not having 400 touches a play last night as he didnt get the time on the ball. Contrast this with our defensive press and how little pressure we put them under. This is an area where we can improve out of sight in

Goal Keeping There is no reason in the world we cant have world class keepers
Bozza Schwarzer Gypo Ryan we can produce keepers that can be world class. The skill sets required aint the same required to e a Messi or CR7 or Griff. So why are we constantly seeing opponents in ACL Socceroos games with keepers who are bettwr than the sjit we have in the HAL

The HAL and FFA are letting us down drastically.

Another point is the AFC have a Europa League comp. Why the **** are Australian clubs not playing in it on top of the ACL??

on this, to be eligibilie for the AFC cup (which is what i assume you are talking about) the member association "must be ranked from 7 and below in the “West Asia” ranking or the “East Asia” ranking" (see section 5, criterion 1 http://www.the-afc.com/afc/documents...017-2020-33728). I know we aren't amaze-balls in the standings, but we are defintely not outside the top 6 associations in east Asia.

I respect where you were heading with your post but just want to point out you picked a poor game to use as an example to highlight poor keepers in the AL. Moss was amazing last night.
    OK

The AFC already hate us for having a non-AFC team in our comp. As well as no promotion/relegation. We should be thankful we get what we already have!

I wouldnt say he had a great game at all

Cost us the 2nd goal with some piss poor keeping

He even got falsly credited by Speed for a save when Boogaard got his arse back on the line to parry a goal bound shot

Game goes for 90 mins and at the end of the day he and Boogaard made the 2 errors that sank us

We may not qualify for this league for many years.

Yeah, Moss wasnt the issue with the second goal. He watched the flight of the ball and moved forward, then saw he had Kanta and Johnny K in position to deal with the ball so he retreated back towards the goal with the expectation they would be sufficient to cover. Unfortunately we all saw what happened next.

    Disagree

It is a chipped ball at little speed floated to the back post and into the 6 yard box
This is the keepers ball in every professional league on the planet

Moss has issues on aerial balls and it is a weak point on his game

Yes Johnny K needs to move to the ball and Kanta could have got there too

    Butthis ignores the blatantly obvious

If the keeper does his job there he takes that ball

I fully understand why the defenders leave it for someone else

It was never their ball to deal with and they did what they should do

I have to agree with the Membah for once. As an ex keeper it was drilled into my head that any looping cross in the 6 yard box was mine...even if you took out your own defenders to get it.

Just a thought - why didn't we apply greater pressure on the player who delivered the cross??

Johnny K was in the worst position to do anything about it. If he runs to the ball his only header is towards his own goal, plus he was 'always' gonna get out jumped by the man coming from behind.
His only saving grace would have been getting fouled by someone jumping over him.

The best options were Kanta and Moss who had a chance to run with the flight of the ball and their attacks on the ball would have gone away from goal at least.

Plus, keeper gonna get way more fouls called in his favour at the first sign of collision.

You go charging out there and get a fist on it if you cant catch it also

Bloke aint scoring at all if the keeper goes for it

Keeper gets touched goes to ground and protected species rule free kick

Forgetting the obvious with Moss being a Kiwi but why exactly are we Australian keepers so poor in the air dealing with crosses??

Being that 3 of our states specialise in a game where catching a ball above your head is mendatory in Tardball it doesnt make a lot of sense as to why we are so passive and indecisive at dealing with crosses

Moss aint the only one. Xan throw a blanket over HAL keepers and you will find that crosses trouble the **** out of them

But this is also an area where we need better

A quality keeper besides coming for the cross also has the authority to command his box and command of his defenders

The work by Kanta and Johnny K showed that there is **** all direction back there

Our defenders looked like the Scouse defenders would if Klopp put Karius in nets at Old Trafford this weekend

    No trust at all
