When exiting the stadium the roar fans were chanting some rubbish so after some friendly pushnshove with yours truly they went out very quiet. Well done to the Secos and cops who interveened and sensibly sent all on their way without any complication (fancied my chances against those fat muppets today)and a good day was still had by all.

Should we as Newcastle Jets Supporters start organizing the raising of funds in anticipation of buying and running the Newcastle club should the opportunity become available and discussing such options with the FFA?

A good example of how something like this could work (should we raise the initial funds), is FC united of Manchester (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_United_of_Manchester , http://www.fc-utd.co.uk/)

This is a well known and good example of how we could run things should the opportunity arise. And while they run on a smaller budget than that of the a-league (about half on my reckoning) i don't think that it is inconceivable that it would work.

I know a lot of you think that this whole thing is a gee up, and even if it is, wouldn't you rather be prepared than let the club fold.

Another reason for doing this is that Con isn't particularly young and won't be around forever so us as the supporters being in a position to purchase the club when he is gone either way would not be a bad idea.

Please let me know what you think and maybe we can start to come up with a mission statement, business plan and the like and then start working in the community to start gaining pledges and raising funds.

Examples:

FC St. Pauli - http://www.fcstpauli.com/

Hi guys,

Do you think it would be frowned upon by Jets admin, or Jets fans in general if I were to hand out flyers for a local football competition at the game? Obviously, it's the target demographic for a competition like mine, and I've seen it done before [under the windscreen wipers] by all types of businesses [these, mostly without relevance to football]. But the fact this is a *local football competition*, surely it is pertinent and not likely to displease fans due to its topic.

Would like to get some feedback for this.

Cheers.

Arrived here just before the jet had the great grand final win in Sydney which I was lucky enough to be there--I was living in Albury Wodonga for over 28 years and missed having a national competition to watch--I am sure Newcatle supporters want a national team but I don't understand the excusses for not getting to the matches and supporting the team???

Up to now I have done little but attend all home games and this year got a season ticket

As a supporter and others like me --how do we get involved in supportinting the future of the club

Are there a supporters organised group that get involved in supporting the club?

I can't sing but have a few other talents that may be of some use!

JETS owner Con Constantine insisted yesterday that the future of the A-League club was secure despite him being unable to pay wages.

Constantine has approached Football Federation Australia for financial aid to help get through a "difficult period".

Players, coaches and office staff, including chief executive John Tsatsimas, were not paid on Friday and Constantine could not say last night when they would be.

"All that is owed to the players is about $50,000," Constantine said.

"At the end of the day the players will get paid, there is no two ways about it.

"We need support from FFA. We are not asking for a handout. All we are asking for is to give us enough money to get over the obstacles we are facing.

"Every dollar the FFA give us will be paid back in full."

Tsatsimas will address the players before training today.

"John will speak to the players tomorrow and tell them exactly what is going on," Constantine said yesterday.

"I sympathise with the players, don't get me wrong.

"I want them to feel free knowing the Jets will pay every dollar owed to them. I promise them that."

The Professional Footballers Association confirmed yesterday that it was monitoring the situation.

"We are informed that the situation is manageable and very short-term in nature," PFA chief executive Brendan Schwab said.

Wages are due again on Friday, two days before the Jets take on Brisbane Roar at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

"The game will be on," Constantine said.

*A-League clubs receive an annual grant of $1.3 million, which is broken into quarterly instalments, and Constantine said an advance in the Jets' next payment would help alleviate the problem.*

"That is all I ask," he said.

Constantine, whom BRW magazine estimated in 2009 to be worth more than $100 million, formed Newcastle United out of the ashes of the financially crippled Newcastle Breakers in 2000.

He is the only survivor of the original stakeholders in the A-League and by his count has lost more than $12 million on the club.

FFA was forced to take over North Queensland Fury in April.

They own Adelaide United and have given financial aid to every other club at some point.

"If they can help every other club in the country, surely to God they can help us," Constantine said.

But he assured fans he would not bail out.

*"If you cut my wrists there would be soccer balls coming out like blood," Constantine said. "I love it and I want the people of Newcastle to know that.*

"I will be there for them. I am not walking away.

FFA chief executive Lyall Gorman said he would work with the club "to help it find a way through its current issues".

Constantine has waged a bitter battle with landlords the Newcastle Knights over a better commercial deal at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

He settled payment of $330,000 in outstanding rent recently and in part blamed the situation at the stadium for the club's present cash-flow problems.

The Knights had won compensation from the state government for losses due to building work at the stadium and the Jets should get the same.

"We were told five months ago that the Knights and the state government were going to arbitration and we would be told what is going on," Constantine said.

"Guess what. We have heard nothing.

*"We have been dealt with like second-rate cousins.*

"If the Knights get a million dollars [compensation] for last year, we want the same."

thinking this story might still have a while to go so I started a new thread instead of posting it in the daily news thread.

ok, i can't find anything official, but this has now been mentioned on Fox and in the SMH so is probably worth talking about.

here's the link from Cockerill's article

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/football/youth-focus-is-fine--providing-theyre-talented-enough-20100826-13ua1.html

and a summation of the major points as i understand them:
* reducing visa places from 5 to 3
* visa players paid a minimum of 150% of the minimum wage
* compulsory minimum number of under 23's in each starting line up
* increasing the bench from 4 to 7 players

in each case, the intention is to promote youth, with the clear thinking that less foreigners and bigger benches\mandated under 23's will make coaches pick more youth and take the chance on them during games. clearly, all teams would be in the same position so this would maintain a level playing field.

personal thoughts are that the increase in bench size to 7 is just common sense, and the 150% clause for foreigners is probably already occurring. the mandated number of under 23's is perhaps a little overkill. players good enough are already playing by 23, and if they aren't good enough they don't deserve a spot. reducing visa spots, whilst in all likelihood good for youth, is possibly detrimental to the a-league. unfortunately, we still need a bit of foreign spice to entice casual fans to the games.

my biggest criticism is for the mandated under 23's number in the starting line up. i don't believe coaches should have their squad dictated to them. far better in my opinion to train up the coaches that are likely to choose youth (postecogolou, for example) and promote them over those that won't play them (mitchell, for example)

hopefully somebody has a better link than i've been able to find, one that explains the thinking a little more clearly than cockerill does.

EDIT: further research shows that berger's comments in regard to this seem to have just been his musings on the game after he outlined the Skills Aquisition Program, whatever that may be. still, his comments in my mind are worthy of discussion.

I hope that Takka gets his first start in this game, Row Z really isnt any good as a fullback.

Well with Toporsaurus most likely out, and Row Z proving fairly useless as RB I would probably be lining up thusly

Subs:
Hendo (GK)
Row Z
Brockie
Shuo

FFS why oh why does the A-League not increase the number of subs allowed????
Kasey and Jobey need to close down Skoko and Worm, and Ljubes and Kanta should be able to take care of Sibon.
Looking for a 2-0 win.

So just because I can, lets have a thread with people nominating which manager will get sacked first.
Keep it going until someone is fired.

My Pick: Dave Mitchell because he is useless despite being the only club with three marquees and among the strongest squads on paper.
