There are 4 Wild card teams to play in playoffs. These are the highest scoring teams (win/loss) that finished 2nd in in their conference.
WC round is when the 4 lowest winning teams of their conference (win/loss) play the 4 highest teams that came 2nd.
Wild card round teams in green. AFC teams play each other as does NFC.
    Playoff seeds

    seed_________AFC__________________________NFC
1 Indianapolis Colts (South winner) New Orleans Saints (South winner)

2 San Diego Chargers (West winner) Minnesota Vikings (North winner)

3 New England Patriots (East winner) Dallas Cowboys (East winner)

4 Cincinnati Bengals (North winner) Arizona Cardinals (West winner)

5 New York Jets (Wild Card) Green Bay Packers (Wild Card)

*NFL = 32 teams split into 2 conferences (AFC & NFC)
*Conference = 16 teams split into 4 divisions (North South East & West)
*The heighest team in each division (based on a win/loss record) automatically makes it into the finals series.
*The four divisions champions are ranked 1 through to 4, determined by their win/loss record, in a standard 'ladder' format
*The remainder of the teams are then added to the ladder, from 5th down to 16th based on their win loss records. (This means that a team may win their division with a 9wins - 7 loss record and place fourth while another team may winn 11 games and only lose 5, but would be placed 5th because they came second in their division. this is done to make sure each division is represented in the final series and to make sure that no one division has all their teams represented.
*Once a ladder has been formed, teams 1 and 2 have a week off while teams 3 hosts team 6, while 4 hosts 5. (Wildcard weekend)
*Team 1 then hosts the lowest winner (idealy team 4) while Team 2 would host the higher winner (Idealy team 3).
*The two winners (Ideally team 1 and 2) play the "Conference Championship" at the highest ranked teams home ground. Since two teams from the same conference cannot play against each other in the superbowl, The conference championship is considered more like a minor grandfinal rather than just a semifinal.

    Here is this years competition.

Yeh its kinda complicated when you first hear it but its not too bad, for anyone wondering, it works as such *clears throat*

    Revision
    *NFL = 32 teams in 2 conferences
*Conference (National football conference and american football conference) = 16 teams split into 4 divisions
*Division = 4 teams, the divisions are called North South East and West. Teams never change the division they are in.

At the end of each season, the teams in each division are ranked 1 to 4, based on how many games they won, below shows what the rankings are for this year.

The draw is determined as follows
    * A team shall play all three teams in its division at home and away (6 games)
    * A team shall play all four teams from another division, but in the same conference (4 games, 2 home and 2 away), this is on a 3 year rotational basis
    * A team shall play all four teams from another division, but from the other conference (4 games, 2 home and 2 away), this is on a 4 year rotational basis
    * A team shall play the two teams in their conference, that ranked in the same position in their respective divisions the year before.

This guarantees that all teams will play each other at least once every four years, and will play atleast once in every stadium every eight years.

    The rotations for 2010 are:

    Division....|Intra conf...| Inter Conf
    ----------|-----------|-------------
    AFC East..| AFC North|NFC North
AFC North| AFC East ..|NFC South
AFC South| AFC West | NFC East
AFC West | AFC South| NFC West
NFC East .| NFC North |AFC South
NFC North| NFC East ..|AFC East
NFC South| NFC West | AFC North
NFC West | NFC South | AFC West

    EXAMPLE
The following is an example of how the bears draw for 2010 would be determined.

    American Football Conference

    __________________________________________________ ___________
    |2009 Rank|.......East...........|.....North.....|.....
    South.......|.....West....|
    |----------|----------------|-------------|--------------|-----------|

    National Football Conference

    .......4......|.....Washington.....|....Detroit.....|...Tampa Bay...|........St Louis....|
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Plays once
    Plays twice (home and away)

As can be seen, the chicago bears in 2010 will play
    * The teams in their division twice (Minesota, Green Bay and Detroit)
    * The teams in the NFC East once (Dallas, Philedelphia, New York Giants and Washington)
    * The teams in the AFC East once ( New england, New York Jets, Miami and Buffalo)
    * The two teams that finished in the same rank in their respective divisions (Carolina and Seattle)

Ah well, I got 3 out of 4 right, nearly picked a few of the margins too!

Tragic news for the bears today too. The Bears traded to gain the services of Gaines Adams (fourth overall in 2007 draft), but sadly, Gaines Adams passed away this morning at only 26 years of age. A real tragedy.

Its good that both games are on ONE tomorrow, what a way to spend a monday morning! Out of the four teams, the only team I can say I want in is New York. I hate Indi, and I don't really care one way or the other about the NFC game.

TAB is paying 2.70 for the saints to get up, not bad i dont think. colts have came from behind alot this season, but i think that if they get behind this time, the saints' fire power will be too great and I dont think indi will be able to run em down.

I wouldnt mind starting a fantasy football comp on the nfl website, Its in the custom sections called Aussie Keeper League, password is akl. Would be good if we could get enough players to start a good league.
