In yet another example that the bad old days of the club being run poorly, it has been revealed that bonuses have still not been to players after the victory in last season’s Grand Final.
Sources have revealed that club owner Con Constantine promised bonuses to players immediately after the final, only to deny making the promise a week later.
In the Newcastle Herald recently, Chief Executive John Tsatsimas said the grand final bonus was an “issue for Con and the players, From what I understand, Con has something organised”.
Constantine has previously given player bonuses such as the Christmas bonus of a box of mangoes, which players have described as “a joke”.
With many key players such as Ante Covic, the Griffiths brothers and captain Jade North coming off contract at the end of the season, it remains to be seen whether the Jets’ style of player management which saw several key players leave immediately after the grand final win will see another mass exodus.

hahaha! the picture cracked me up,but the subject matter is not as humorous.
Come on Con! do right by the players or don’t make promises you don’t want to keep.
I don’t know how accurate this is, but if its true then it is unacceptable. If this type of thing continues to happen then not only will we lose our current top quality players, but we will struggle to attract quality players in the future.
The number of professional players in Australia is quite low, and I would assume that word about these types of events would spread around the circle of pro players pretty quickly.
It is another example of Con shooting his mouth off without engaging his brain. What he didn’t realise when he made that promise was that his hands were tied because any ‘bonus’ is within the salary cap so he didn’t actually have anywhere to move to pay them. If paid in ‘kind’ then the value of that had to be included in the salary cap.
Great idea and done by many clubs around the world (win bonuses) but I think you will find that Con made the promise without realising it would be nearly impossible to follow through on.
Lesson to Con – engage brain before mouth.
yeah i think this is another piece of bad managing by con and i dont see why the staff like him.
He doesnt make third party agrements.
he doesnt keep his promises.
the only thing he does do well is pour money down the throats of the staff, not the players making the results.
A way to go forwards in the a league is to get good staff and managers.
I say get rid of con and get someone reliable.
