Over the years I've noticed there seems to be a lot of "hate" not only on this forum but in general social media circles aimed at our local young players. Players like Wheelhouse, Kennedy and Hoffman have probably copped the worse of it. Others to a lesser extent but nonetheless still cop plenty of sh.it include Gallaway and Pepper and also Virgili and Kantarovski. What is this mentality we have in Newcastle that we feel the need to cut down talented young local players? After just 2 matches the vultures are already out circling for BK's carcass going by the many comments not only on here but even on the Herald website/letters.

That's a common theme at all clubs around the world.

The locals are held to higher standards as the levels the fans crave them to achieve are much higher.


ie We want them to succeed that much that any failures are viewed more harshly

Hoffman played juniors in Newcastle. I remember playing against his Hamilton Olympic side in around under14s or so. He then went on to play NBN league - definately played 19s and 1sts for Olympic.
