No....Louis Brain....11 secs in first season for Adelaide.

Mind you....with Mori and his 4 second goal, they know about early goals in Adelaide.

And no homecoming for Tarek… sent off for headbutting Behich… and second PK for Williams. The other Williams has completely lost control of this game. Galekovic saves. Taggz with a huge sigh of relief. More cards to come in this one...

I actually think Ben Williams has handled the hole situation perfectly. What can Elrich expect for a headbutt, then the Adelaide players blow up cause their team mate got a red card he deserved nothing else Ben Williams could have done better IMO

He waited a good 10 minutes and a few yellows later before finally calling the captains over to calm everyone down.

Jeterpool

He won it back by calling out the captains IMO. He did well with that. He did well to not send off a second Adelaide player with what looked like a lot of dissent

And can he call a penalty after letting play go on? The linesman wasn't flagging him. It didn't seem to be a penalty until after the ball went out, then Behich got up and complained and then Williams decided to go and talk to the linesman.

Hmmm good question. Penalty or indirect free kick? I'm not a referee and would appreciate the interpretation from someone who is

Basically he thought it maybe should have been a throw in rather than a pen. He didn't have a problem with the red card.

Hate it when players start playing to draw cards.

Wonder if this game will finally convince the FFA to do something about the constant abuse the referees have been getting recently. Dont care how bad they perform or if they make the wrong call the constant surrounding of referees by screaming players is a disgrace and a bad look and getting worse every week.

Bullshit that griff got suspended yet you see constant mouthing off and swearing at them every game. Typical anti-griff agenda which is always based in jealousy both by refs and forum posters

It would appear to be a good call:

Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
trips or attempts to trip an opponent
jumps at an opponent
charges an opponent
strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
pushes an opponent
tackles an opponent

A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following three offences:

holds an opponent
spits at an opponent
handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

A direct free kick is taken from the place where the offence occurred (see Law 13 - Position of free kick).

Penalty kick

A penalty kick is awarded if any of the above ten offences is committed by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball, provided it is in play.

So as long as the ball was in play at the time of the incident (which it was yeah?) then it was the right call.

Out of curiosity what is the ruling if an act of violence occurs in the penalty box say when the ball is out of play??
ie Defender starts punching attacker but the ball has just gone out for a throw in and play hasn't yet restarted as the ball is being retrieved from the crowd when the defender cuts sick with a left right combo???

Bang On the money.

Hypocritical double standards to send Griff off and then put up with that last night from Williams.

If Middleby had any idea after giving Griff a new contract he should be asking the FFA for a please ****ing explain and calling for retrospective suspensions to the Adelaide players in light of the action taken by the same clown against Griff

Player guilty of Violent conduct would get sent off then play would restart from the throw in.

At least he got closer than BK did on a free kick that was closer. But why would we want players showing effort for lost causes? Hell, the players should just walk off the field when we concede a goal, we're gonna lose anyway.

And Sydney's fourth was a good hit, but Moss could have done better I reckon.
