Iceland have it over the Dutch home and away and are almost certain to qualify now

utterly incredible for a nation of 330,000

boz-monaut
07-09-2015, 08:51 PM
so Engerland, The Czechs and Iceland have qualified so far

still amazed that Iceland, a nation with half the population of Newcastle that you can't even go outside for half the year because it's covered in snow can play such incredibly well organised football

Hello peeps
I was checking out these Euro tables; especially after a Dutch mate was down in the dumps over their predicament I decided
to investigate their chances through the 3rd place qualifiers...and I suddenly had a realisation after reading this rule:

The highest ranked third-placed team from the groups directly qualifies for the tournament, while the remainder enter the play-offs. As Group I contains five teams and the rest contain six, matches against any sixth-placed team in each group are not included in this ranking. As a result, a total of eight matches played by each team count toward the purpose of the third-placed ranking table.

The fact that a 3rd placed team in the 6 team groups points are negated against the bottom team, there is the posibility that some teams who have taken full points against
last place but not 2nd last could have the carpet puled out form under them IF the 5th and 6th teams swap places..especially on the last round.
Does anyone know if this has right royally fooked any country up in the past? Has this rule always existed to find the best 3rd place getters?
Interesting groups where it's close are Groups A, C, F & G

When you look at the teams in some of the groups.. If you don finish top 2... pretty hard to justify getting into the euro lol :P

Most likely it will be Bein. And most of my friends from Australia hated it. Just like what happened in euro 2012 where SBS showed 8 selected matches while the rest was shown by Bein, same thing will most likely to happen with euro 2016 (http://www.dafabetsports.com/en/) season.

As per the teams, I will be rooting for Team England! They may have lost one goalkeeper a few weeks before euro 2016 starts due to an injury, but I am confident they can perfectly fill up the gap. :)

Lots of attack hardly any passing around the backs. I wonder If this was a directive for both teams from the big boys

The modern day hooligan from England is just a try hard trying to live up to the stereotype

Are Italy still in it?

I was listening to a podcast on the way to get some grub one night, where a bloke made a great case for them winning it. Parked the car, ducked into the pub to put a tenner on them, then listened to the rest of the pod where the bloke went on to say why they won't win.

My opinion... not a chance. Great defence but nearly as bad as the jets when it comes to any kind of creativity. They peaked against Belgium and got a great result, they will struggle to break down the big guns on their side of the draw. But said big guns will struggle to break them down too.

I think you've made a good value bet (please tell me you got them at the 19/1).
Because if they get past Spain they can beat any other team no probs.
So you've made a bet getting good odds in a 2 horse race.

ROI v Wales looks tasty.
Hungary should have a dig.
France v Ireland though, geez if the Paddys get up I can't imagine how large Roy Keane is going to go.

Nah I will right the Italians off

Getting past Spain Germany France in 3 games just to get to the final is a bridge too far

I wouldn't think Spain could do it either with Italy Germany and France

Just too many huge matches in a row
Teams who win titles like this tend to win 1-2 games against the elite tops.Ypu don't see a team put paid to 3-4 sides of World class level.

To me it is Germany or Frances title

Though I interested to see a Germany v Spain QF

Spain have had the wood on Germany the last 6-8 years

Have the Germans got over that is interesting to see

England must be kicking themselves for getting into that side of the draw - the other side will have much more interest. Who gets to the final could come from the Cro/Portugal winner, Hungary or Wales.

Its funny, its the "easier" side of the draw when it comes to big names, but the draw works out that way because those teams beat the bigger teams.
Any of Swiss, Poland, Portugal, Croatia (my pick still), Wales, Hungry and obviously Belgium can all make the final and in my opinion win it.
Its surely has to be the most open major competition in a very long time.

Funny that. You say Spain has had the wood on Germany.
Italy has had the wood on Germany. I think Germany has never beaten Italy in a competition match. (they have in friendlies)
Spain just got past Italy in the last Euro competition when Italy had a couple of their best players out.
For Italy it hinges on the Spain match. If they beat Spain the only team that I can see beating them is Croatia.

I just hope England lose to be honest and Portugal, joke of a tournament that they're still in it

Iceland are the Italia 90 Cameroon of Euro 2016

which probably makes Portugal the Argentina

then I guess you'd have to make Italy France and France Italy

England and Germany play themselves, with the English press carrying on about how golden an age it was for the next twenty six years

I thought Wales and NI was a dull affair until the useless twats croatia and Portugal came on. Spineless, boring, cheating a**holes are a disgrace to their cvntries, football and this tournament. geez I hope the coaching staff are hung for assisting in that diarrhea.

It is the 1st in 25yrs of tourny watching that I couldnt give a sh*t about extra time. late comments due to watching replays, I see a few above have rightly beat me to it.

Don't know what your whingeing about

Portugal are notorious for putting on boring displays at major tourneys

Who will forget the 2006 WC

Figo CR7 Robben RVP Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt
Yes the big names in world football.

The ****ers barely strung an attack together between kicking the shite out of one another.

A glorious match up on paper was one of the worst games to ever sit through

Also don't get to excited tonight.
Hungary V Belgium has either boring or a Belgian blitzkrieg written all over it
Germany towelling Slovaks iPad per usual
Not forgetting the French will labour about against the Irish who will hopefully do them over

Wait to tomorrow night
Italy V Spain looks a great affair and then the lulz when England get sent home in disgrace in the England V Iceland with special guest Rest of the World affair

How bad were the Irish??

Considering they had lots to play for particularly revenge for Hand of Frog i thought they were pretty poor.

They jagged the early goal then could barely keep the ball after that.

No dramas sitting in and parking the bus and defending what they have but their skill set was piss weak. They barely threatened the French and it was a one way procession in the second half until the inevitable French goal

After that the next 8 minutes was like watching the Newcastle Jets. 2 goals conceded chasing the game and then down to 10 men.
Complete cluster**** of an implosion that looked like it was straight out of the Jets manifesto on how to **** things up for yourselves

They were pretty bad against Belgium too... the 3rd place teams making it through doesn't sit well with me. I know its due to number and such but i just didn't like that teams can play like that and get through. In Portugal's case, get through without winning a match!

To be fair though some good coaching at the half by Deschamps hauling Kante and spreading them out.
French were pretty horrible themselves 1st half.

Agree on the Irish being a rabble though.

2nd half was a procession for the frogs.

Hahahahahahaha. EAD England, you come to a knock out tournament with a group stage game plan and you will go home disappointed. They never really looked liked a team, they looked like a bunch of premier league players playing in an all-star game.

What an utter lump of numpty that Harry Kane bloke is, can't take a free-kick/corner, yet doesn't have the intelligence to give them to Wayne or Jack or Walker and just get his shrek-ish head into the box?
