I'm unsure what to do with City, all.

Should I keep their records with the Heart? Treat them as two different teams?

I keep the Brisbane Roar and Queensland Roar together.

Interested in your thoughts!

I think I will. My logic was the same as Furns - they've simply had a name change like the Roar - albeit a bigger name change.

Besides the obvious miss, i thought caravelle was good when he came on. We really did start keeping the ball when coming out from the back a lot more and there were very few, if any, circles performed!

I dare say he will start there next week.

How bloody good is Peppers work rate, his fitness looks miles above the rest of our squad. Didn't he have shoulder surgery in off season too? So he wouldn't have even had full pre season. If he can be consistent at this level, he will play every game he is fit!

Will confess to being a fan of the bloke but I don't know if there's really too much he could have done, the shot was low, hard and curling away from his hand. Caravello changed us for the better when he came on, should start next match. Just needs to work on his shin technique in front of goal.

The passage of play between flores, griff and montano for the goal was great. Positive signs there that those three should work well together.

Defensively I thought we looked solid as well. Only thing really lacking today appeared to be fitness. We just seemed to be flat, then towards the end cramps set in. Coaching staff need to fix that quick.

Thought Montano was brilliant today but if I was to be critical, that ball he laid of to Jeronimo was fantastic and Jeronimo should have buried it but I would like to see Montano back him self from that range.
I know super critical but I couldn't help but think bury it before Newman came into the shot.

A snap strike from a world class player and recent workd cup goal scorer. Not much more he could do , seen plenty of keepers get done by villa in my time and no way was birraz effort worse than any other keeper.

Sometimes the strike is to good,

Will confess to being a fan of the bloke but I don't know if there's really too much he could have done, the shot was low, hard and curling away from his hand. I'll make sure to pass on to Stubbins he needs to invest in some more training equipment http://www.complete-strength-training.com/images/improve-grip-strength-hand-grippers.jpg

Maybe you're both right but after seeing replays I feel he really could have done better and if you want to play at that level "could have done better" is not good enough.

Was bk afforded the same considerations when delPierdive curled one past him?

Not making comment on birraz (haven't seen replay and stream wasn't clear) or on anyone holding this view, just interesting as an example of the two different standards we as a collective group of fans seem to hold our keepers to.

It could be argued birraz got his angles wrong on this one too but my point was more about Bk also conceding a goal against a world class player ..... A dead ball specialist etc etc.

Just seen the replay, if birraz gets his arse dragged through a barbed wire fence backwards for that then caravella and Neumann should be running 10 laps (of Stockton beach) before and after training.

Great goal, not bad keeping. Though he would be gutted getting so much on it....

Assuming he's now phased by such things. ;)

A few observations from me on today's game.

We need to improve our communication at the back. I saw Neville head the ball out for a corner at least 3 times when a word from his keeper could have resulted in a chest down of the ball, safely to Birraz. He was under no pressure each of these times. Gallagher did the same - booting it out for a corner when he could have shielded it out.

What was the go with our substitute bench - Virgilli and Hoole play the same position yet both were on the bench. This was an issue I had with the previous manager so I hope that's not going on again.

I'll reiterate again - Carney is LAZY. I saw a number of times, especially in the first half, his forward forays left us exposed at the back. For as poor as he can be, at least when he gives it away Gallaway is determined to get it back.

Nice header from Montano. Well done mate.

Regan and Pepper put in a great midfield shift. Jaliens, Neville and Gallagher did well too. Birraz had a better game.

And finally, Caravella

Oh man some people on here.

For me, you're more likely to mis-calculate the shot zenon had. Geronimo's shot, especially when you consider he is a striker who's expectation it was when he came on the pitch was to score a goal, what he did was downright stupidity. He had to have know from the get go that he was recieving that pass, between when it left Montano's boot and hit his he had so much time to line the shot up and figure out what course of action to take, but he still somehow ****ed it up beyond belief. Most probably won't agree, and maybe I felt that way because when zenon missed we were winning and when geronimo did we weren't.

we got a point and showed some promising attacking play in the second half. Media is reporting it as if David Villa won the game for City but in reality they scraped a draw.

I think Montaño is very industrious at the point of attack. He seems to be asserting himself a bit more with each game. I'm glad he scored yesterday because I don't want to think the Griff is being wasted on the right. it's good to know he can find the back of the net, as well as perform all the distribution work and pressing etc.

Overall, they are still a work in progress. I think this squad has the potential to be really competitive this year. All depends on the ability of the coaching staff to work on eliminating the errors (such as cheap turnover of the ball) and developing the good aspects that are already in place, rewarding players for effort etc.

Defensively he will always go good in that aspect.

What though does concern me is far to often the ball ends up at his feet and he needs to play the first pass to start an attack. This area is not his strongest suit.

On another note how ****ing good is Pepper looking in CM??
If only GVE hadn't of wasted 2 years trying to turn him into a fullback

Some things that did impress me was the resolve of the side. We didn't have the best game in a scintillating performance but gritted our teeth and soldiered on and took a lead and if we hadn't of butchered a couple of chances we win the game.

That is exactly how we need to play on the road. Keep it tight sit and absorb then push forward and hammer on the counter. It is only early days but the signs are we are turning some type of corner.

Also we seem to have more and more blokes buying into the Newy thing. Griff is schooling the blokes well. Directs Montana to the away bay after scoring. Gives the away support a round of applause when getting subbed off.

Steele although frustrating some of you blokes with his touches actually does look like he gives a **** and wants to be here emphasised by the fist pumps to the crowd and enthusiasm he is trying to generate. Marcos also seems to get what Newy is

The team effort to get their arses over to the away bay quickly and thank their fans was also good.
It actually felt real and had genuine two way meaning and not like they were going through the motions.

Good to hear they got over to see the fans again. Last week they walked over to clap and i noticed Kew actually signaled for all player to get right over to the fans at the fence.

Montana even gave his shirt away. Went and grabbed the bib from Flores and slipped it on and looked back to the bench to make sure no one was watching and gave the shirt away to some blokes in Ecuador shirts

The good thing with it was that it was also reasonably quick after FT. The handshakes had barely been done with the Heart players and they were on their way over. Not wishing to cause an argument here but isn't the formation thing a load of complete shite anyway??

4-2-3-1 quickly becomes 4-5-1 when you are under the pump and also goes to 4-2-1-3 when you have the ascendancy.

I beg to differ about the 4-5-1 not being ideal for our squad. When we are playing away from home we should have the express intention of parking the bus making life hard for our opponent and hitting on the counter. It nearly worked for us quite well yesterday. History shows last season when we did that to Brisbane Adelaide WSW away we were quite successful at it.

Reality is playing that way will

Unfortunately the days of playing 2 genuine strikers seems a thing of the past. The modern tactic is one up front and having blokes overload midfield to try and rush forward and play into the space left by only having one bloke in the front line. Unfortunately the days of the 4-4-2 are basically extinct and may never return until someone reinvents the wheel how the game is played.

Agree Griff is wasted playing Right Mid Would love to see him played up front and would love to see us play 2 up front.

Thing with it is that until either Hooley or Virgili step up he is still our best option at Right Mid

Did notice at the airport last night that Hooley though was hanging with the Griff and absorbing the Great Ones wisdom so the future is looking bright

I thought Stubbins made a couple of tactical mistakes with his line up, particularly in the first half.

Having watched the MC v SFC game in rd 1 it was obvious that MC would dominate possession and we would need to press at the right moments. Therefore this was not the game to start Flores who is still considerably short of a run. The days of Griff being a RW are surely over and IMO he struggled defensively which killed his attack.

I would have kept Griff at AM, Flores on the bench and Hoole at RW.

Regan didn't do too badly if you consider the work he had to do. Caravella should take that position but I doubt he was fit enough against City.

Gallagher has been very impressive and I can see Madaschi struggling to get this spot back.

Montano also looks the goods and may well start all year

Carney also doesn't have the legs he used to so Steele ends up covering for him for large parts of the game anyway.

The only problem I see with that is that Steele is either overly aggressive or a little clumsy in the tackle and gives away a few free kicks. Not so bad up field but asking for trouble in back third.

Agree with Borat on playing Griff wide. He's better in the thick of the action.

Just watched the game again and couple of things that I noticed.

Our left side is our biggest strength and weakness.

We are getting some quality play down that side from time to time but far too many times both Steele and Carney got both caught up the field and it was left to Gallagher to play both left back and CD

I also noticed that far too often our left back was in advanced positions for **** knows what reason. When Caravella missed the sitter Carney was right behind it and in the box. Considering the move was quickly put together from the moment we won the ball and Caravella butchered the chance the reason for Carney being there is baffling as he ain't holding his position to be around the 6yard box at this time

FFS I lost count of the amount of times Steele gave the ball away needlessly but it was defo in double figures.

Montano looks a great pick up. Considering he got **** all ball for the vast part of the game the quality when he got it stood out.

The bloke also got through a power of running defensively that may not have been noticed. I am gonna go out on a limb and say we need to make this blokes move permanent NOW

The refereeing is still shit. Would love to know how we have 8 yellows this season and our opponents have 0

Last week Montgomery 4 fouls no yellow
This week Williams 3 fouls no yellow.
Our blokes get yellow for sweet **** all

Why Villa wasn't booked for his blatant dive in the box is disgraceful when the prick Gillette kept booking us for petty shit at free kicks

BOTTOM LINE

Wellington have the wood on the Jets, winning 13 of 22 contests.

At home they have been even more dominant, taking maximum points in eight out of 12 games.

The Jets’ most recent win in New Zealand was in February 2013.

The last two games have produced five goals.

The Jets won 5-0 at home in March and were beaten 3-2 away in February.

Phoenix’s 2-1 win over the Mariners ended a five-game losing streak and was their first win in eight games.

The Kiwis have lost three straight at home.

They have never lost four in a row.

FFS I lost count of the amount of times Steele gave the ball away needlessly but it was defo in double figures.

pretty hard not to notice this the 1st time. Tries hard though and could improve.
