That's probably what he should have done on Saturday when Neville come off
Welsh into CD with Reegz Kew to RB and then put Florist on into CM

Would have made more sense than Gallaway getting on the park

You reckon? I would've thought having Regan out there would've been better than a 36 year old. Plus Kew is rock solid in the centre, why would we want to ruin that?

this was said last week

My source tells me Johnny is causing a few problems within the squad. Most notably with two other young local players. Been given a 2 week "break" by Stubbins.

Funny Virgili and Pepper were omitted from the squad last week.

I don't think there is any doubt some serious shit is going on behind the scenes and i am sure some of Stubbins questionable selections and formations or lack thereof are contributing in some way.

If you were a player you would have every right to ask yourself what is the difference between now and under the pubic haired muppet , So far you would have to say nothing.

As for the game itself and the result i think Mulvey will be safe after this weekend, WE have a knack of saving everybody elses bacon except our own.

Its not naivity. Against Nix in pre-season Flores came into the centre of midfield and did very well.

A change of structure could have also been a possibility

Could put Messi and Ronaldo out there up front and we'd still be awful. Tactically stubbins has no ****ing idea. Shit bench options, shit substitutions, shit squad selection to begin with. Had to watch FTA tonight. One word - Lacklustre.
Retro has seen a lot of sh!t performances and had to endure some pretty lean seasons since I started watching in 1979.
This one is shaping up to be one of the worst.... Toughest time to be a Newie fan.

We can go on about supporting the team, the club etc but was that performance indicative of what Newcastle football is about?
Newie imposters across the board who are no representative of who we are.
Like I said, I've seen many a poor season at National and State League levels but at least in the past you felt the healthy smattering
of locals in those squads actually gave a sh!t.

Squad selections were really poor but more alarmingly was how the players on the pitch went about their game. The lack of cohesion was appalling with no idea going forward. It was the type of performance that changing players just won't make a difference. It was that bad

Squad wise

Jaliens - wtf was Stubbins thinking. Then to not select Pepper or Galoway as a fullback option on the bench was plain insanity.

Regan - is not and has never been good enough. Gets targeted by opposition teams and exposed.

Joel Griffiths - stop playing him wide. Just stop it, it doesn't work. Either play him on the point of attack or play 2 striker ( one called Joel and the can be....who really cares who the other is)

Midfield - is so so bad. Every week we are outclassed. Celeski was short of a run tonight but I saw enough to see him coming good. Choose a partner out of Kanta and Caravella to play deep and stop playing Caravella as a 10 ffs. If we play with 1 striker then make it Joel with Flores in behind. If we play with 2 strikers then forget the 10.

I usually try to be a glass half full type person but in this case, I've turned and I'm going full MFKS on you all.

**** me that was terrible! 2 shots! 2 ****ing shots on goal, at home against the team currently occupying last place...well were last before tonight. We set out to try and defend a 0-0 score line.

Kew Jaliens did my head in tonight. The bloke had no discipline what so ever. For the third goal he was at left wing! Our right back was at left wing! Regain gone done up by Henrique but fuxk me dead Jaliens did nothing to help him.

I could clearly tell Madaschi hadn't played for a umpteen weeks. Needs his eyes checked because he kept passing to the ball boys. Only thing is can say is they were wearing blue too.

Why oh why do we persist with 4-3-3. It's not working. And why have frigging foreign players if you aren't going to use them!? Flores has to have done something.

Our movement was crap. We seem scared to even try a pass forward to the box because we'll turn it over. Instead we pass it back and turn it over there.

Our backs were so slow, so why play such a high line? We invited Brisbane to enter our half with zero pressure...why? We hold off Bratten time and time again and let him shoot. Why no pressure?

I'm livid after that. While his distribution was crap, Birraz kept the from being a slaughter. He made some outstanding saves.

And Stubbins was sitting there, arm over the back of the chair and I didn't see him move once. His naivety is costing us. To say he has no idea why things went wrong is infuriating. You're the ****ing coach! It's your job!!!!

I feel most sorry for the crowd. We turn up religiously week after week, even after 4, no 6 years of crap football and we deserve a break. If this were the gypos they'd have folded.

The only positive is that it's an international break and I can't watch liverpool lose this weekend either.

Hard to pick the worst player on the pitch tonight but I've gone with caravella. Zenon was absolutely honkingly awful. He basically played as an extra man for them in midfield, breaking up our plays with aplomb and starting the roar on their attacks and rarely chasing back. Retirement suited u zenon. Honourable mentions to the rest of the team bar celeski. I see him coming good once he blows the rustiness away.

Couldn't agree more....why do we continually change line up and not once get it right....I don't know how many on here have coaching badges but to me it seems that there is a vast array of knowledge (I even agreed with the member once in a moment of insanity) but I don't see anywhere where anyone is calling for constant change of line up. So either stubbins and GVE before him know something about the jets players that no one else can see or we are all idiots.

If stubbins continues to play Caravella in any way we will not score another goal this year.

Probably the worst performance I have seen from a Newcastle national league side.....right back to 1977!

Four centre backs in defence, nothing in midfield and insipid attack.

Just put out our best team and let it gel....Edson, Jeronimo and Griff rotating a two man attack, Flores behind, Celeski screening, Kew and Madaschi as the central defence. Build around that....playing guys out of position is so GVE !

Wasn't Billy Celeski the missing link. Peter Brady playing right back obviously wasn't . Worst Jets performance since GVE was coach. Only player unavailable was Hooley. Pepps wasn't required, in the words of Toovey there needs to be an investigation.

MARK BIRIGHITTI – 6 Made plenty of great saves in the game and kept the Jets in the game in the first half with a great save from Borello, was unlucky to concede 4, could have been more if it wasn’t for his penalty save from Dimitri Petratos.
SAM GALLAGHER – 5 Very difficult game for the Jets and ordinary defensive performance from all.
ADRIAN MADASCHI – 5 Wasn’t a debut to remember for Madashi and Newcastle’s ordinary defence.
KEW JALIENS (C) – 4.5 Found it difficult to contain Solorzano in the first half, and was out of position on a numerous of occasions, especially for the first goal to Brisbane.
TAYLOR REGAN – 4.5 Allowed Henrique to run at him for the 3rd and 4th goal and was very ordinary in defence
BILLY CELESKI – 5 Playing his first game for Newcastle but lacked any support from his teammates.
BEN KANTAROVSKI – 4.5 Turned over the ball and also gave away a penalty.
ZENON CARAVELLA – 5 Offered nothing in midfield and was substituted early in the second half.
DAVID CARNEY – 7 Looked like the only player who could make something for Newcastle, and was the go to man for the Jets.
JOEL GRIFFITHS – 5 Quiet in the first half, didn’t link well with Montaro turning over the ball.
EDSON MONTANO – 4.5 Didn’t get the ball much in the first half but did well to hold onto it when he had it.

A bit generous with Carney and Birraz kicking game is atrocious

Why the **** was Carney on the Fox Sports poll of "Is Carney the Jets go-to man?" If so, we are ****ed because he has been pretty average.

Just put out our best team and let it gel....Edson, Jeronimo and Griff rotating a two man attack, Flores behind, Celeski screening, Kew and Madaschi as the central defence. Build around that....playing guys out of position is so GVE !

Argh!!

What the hell was stubbins thinking putting Kew in the fullback role...sheer stupidity.
Why does reagen think he can continue to play 50yard cross field balls when he hasn't hit a red and blue shirt with one yet?
Why does Birraz continue to try to hit the wide guys when he finds the stand each time, yet has 2v2 up front when we are chasing the game? One time Neumann was on his own straight up the guts with no roar player within 30m and Birraz hung onto the ball and found the sideline again.

Can anyone tell me, even if Birraz had actually hit Griffiths ONCE in that first half... what the **** was Griff supposed to do with the ball from that point anyway?? He's hugging the sideline with a roar player barely a metre away and the ball's flying at/over his head. What's the next step? On the odd occasion Birraz miscued it and went down the middle, Montano repeatedly outmuscled his defender, brought the ball down, and then looked for support.. only to see ****ING NONE. **** me Birraz/Stubbins, if something is working KEEP ****ING DOING IT! Couldn't agree more. No matter how good any ball is anywhere on the park it's the next thing to happen that counts. To many times our players get a decent ball but have little or no option to move it on (or in caravella's case take the wrong option and stifle an attack). They either lose it or play it to someone in a worse position or play some Pass that an Olympic sprinter wouldn't get near.

I honestly don't know what they work on in training...fitness still not up to it, basics aren't there for some of them and tactics are terrible.

That would basically end up with celeski alone in midfield getting raped.
Personally I'd go same formation but griff replacing caravella and being given licence to roam and occasionally rest up top. Griff could drop and harass the deep playmakers like brattan and also break and supply more help to monty. I feel Flores would reduce the pathetic leg speed we already have but he should be at least getting 20 min especially when we are behind and chasing a game.

Agreed. **** off with wingers.

Biraz
Nev - Kew - Mad - Carney (because he won't ever get dropped so we might as well build a tactic around him and assume we have no one defending at left back, ever)
Kanta
Pepper - Celeski
Flores
Griff - Montano

Play narrow, have Pepper/Celeski drop back when defending, let Kanta cover for Carney going forward. Griff/Montano drop either side of Flores when defending so it pretty much becomes a 4-3-3 (or 4-2-4 if you consider Kanta will drop back to cover for Carney who will be at right wing,, left wing, tangled up in the net somewhere, never at left back).

I think one thing our coach actually does need to do is actually work out a role for Griffo that will see him spend as many minutes on the park as possible and also have him in a role where the team will benefit most.

I am pretty certain we don't need to have him running after everything that moves in the opposition line up like we currently do so he is spent energy wise after 60-70mins so I struggle to see what you hope to gain by having him chase DM's all day long

Lets face it he is getting older and doesn't have the energy he once did (thank **** his class and enthusiasm hasn't waned)

If we wanted someone to do the running job we should have kept Zads as chasing everything in sight was his area of expertise.

The first half upset me more due to the lack of intent and I wanted to go home at HT so didn't want to watch that again but decided to watch the second half.

First thing talk about the togetherness of the players. 1-0 down Birraz saves the pen and sparks the crowd and gives the team hope yet barely gets 2 blokes to give him a pat on the back. Why isn't he mobbed??

Secondly the sheer amount of aimless misplaced passes were mind blowing. These blokes tested for colour blindness or what??

Thirdly the lack of pressing was a ****ing disgrace. On the rare occasions they did one bloke would put in and the blokes around him would not follow up at all and waste the effort

Fourthly Jaliens was ****ing honking.

Blows his stack at the penalty to get a yellow for dissent and pushes the refs patience on other occasions

First goal ran out of the RB spot into the CD spot and opened up the space for Stefanutto run into and lay on the ball. Why??

Third goal we were actually attacking and for some reason the bloke was in the penalty box when we lost the ball. Considering it wasn't a set piece the question has to be asked why the bloke is going the Hollywood play. He then proceeded to run to the left wing spot instead of getting back towards the defence and left his man free to carve Reegz up

Fourth Goal Montano coughs up the ball with a heavy touch. Jaliens just jogs back and couldn't be arsed getting back in a hurry to help his team out and then as soon as it hits the net Birraz and Reegz are venting frustration. What does the captain do?? Turns around walks back to half way and goes and stands on the wing. Couldn't give a flying ****. The body language was ****ing compelling

Strip the bloke of the captaincy and give it so someone who ****ing leads FFS

The general ****ing malaise and lack of intent and intensity from all of them was a ****ing disgrace. Did they do a double training sesssion in the 40C heat earlier in the day??

Aloisi's point was that effort or not, the players didn't seem to have a clue what was expected of them. Striker would press, midfield would drop off. One side of midfield would press, striker and other side of mid would drop off. Then he talked about the shambolic organising of the backline, suggested Stubbins dropped it with team selection and expecting a guy that has been out with injury for his entire time at the club to be the answer to everything whilst playing an old bloke out of position was the complete opposite of a tactical masterstroke.

The problem isn't that we lose it's that very few seem to care if they lose. Jets are a part check, assuming they are being paid, and at the end of the day most of the guys are mercenaries who will jump ship to more money in a heartbeat. If the locals aren't good enough, **** em. Would much prefer to have a winning for once, as opposed to a bunch of locals who at least tried, as if trying matters for anything above under 6s.

This whole "at least they tried" thing, as the member said, is a load of crap. Look at the successful clubs in both the a-league and around the world. They expect to win, the fans expect them to, and if they don't, people aren't happy. But with us, it's a case of oh well, they tried, as if they're a bunch of under 6s! It's not good enough to just try as a professional club in a somewhat even competition! They need to want to, and expect to, win. Our club doesn't because we're happy if they try. I am not anymore.

Both of you and Grimario make good points. I think that we don't have enough desire and tenacity to win across the entire club. Whether that's because of too many mercenaries or because we have too many locals that aren't good enough i don't know.

All of these issues seem to come from the fact that we don't have any direction. We don't know which way we want to play as a team, we don't know what type of players we want to sign, we don't know what the owner situation is, we don't know if the FFA wants us to stay in the A League...

We need a reshuffle from the top to the bottom, get a 'culture' in place that this is a serious football club and not just a bunch of hicks that will show up no matter what the performance, and get some sort of stability around the place. If we can put 10000 in the stands when we play like this imagine what would happen if we were playing in the ACL or at least the finals?

Gallop was in the stands this weekend surely this was at least an eye opener for him that things are not well. That article that Dillon this week was spot on.

I have to agree , I think the exact same point has been made numerous times the last few years time and time again.

Your a fool if you want a team of
Locals who are sub par and lose all the time but are happy that they tried. This idiotic attitude of 'oh but he is so newy' has to stop.

We carry so much shite baggage just for the sake that they are local, we have had the same players for the last few years and we cant even make the top 6 in a 10 team comp but we dont seem to get the point we need to drop the baggage and have a mass cleanout.

In my opinion The only locals worth keeping atm is Griff, pepper and maybe hoole.Kanta has had his form
Bursts but we have used him for years and finished no where, BK is the longest serving number 2 GK in a-league history , maybe get another GK to push birraz, Regan and Virgili have proved time and time again that they are just not up to a-league standard and to be honest Id be suprised if they got a gig anywhere else but here.

In the short term we need to drop this shit 'pick a local because he will try' attitude , have a player cleanout and start fresh with a competitive side. In the long term we got to look at the whole youth setup from coaching and pathways to the top. We cannot continue churning out sub par locals and expect to develop a winning culture.

We are lacking 2 main components first and foremost (also other tactical/skill issues but ill start with these two)
1) speed- that would have to be the slowest team we have ever put out. Need more leg speed in midfield and wide defence mainly.
2) a hard-nosed aggressive captain who isn't afraid to put the wind up underperformaning teammates and also put the bit between the teeth and lead by example. As much a kew is great, he isn't the leader we need.

On Friday night I found myself for the first time ever wishing one Rubens zadkovich was out there. I slapped myself and the thought was still there. I asked wife to slap me but refused to infront of so many people. But seriously speed and aggressive leadership. He had it despite his other many flaws

Our problem isn't sub par locals. It's not even bad players that are causing these performances. As someone stated earlier, in an over the top way, if you were to bring the strongest 11 players from the HAL to this club right now it wouldn't guarantee we would win games. We have deeply ingrained problems at this club that need to be fixed before we can have any success. But, whilst that is happening above their heads i'd at least want the players to put in the effort on the pitch so that the fans have a reason to turn up.

The main problem with what is being said is that in order to succeed we need better players... but we need to succeed in order to attract better players. It's a vicious cycle.

Can we just turn this around and start discussing how brilliant Brisbane were? Title Favourites, Henrique for the Ballon 'Dor, Mulvey is a tactical Genius, Franjic and Berisha were overrated and won't do anything at their next teams??? ROFL :lulz:

I miss the days when we had Heskey and he was in the running for the Barn d'Or every year.

players have been saying for a while now that training has been utter shite!!! Phil has no idea
since Phil took over they have only done 30 mins worth of tactics work and that was a video session the day before the perth FFA cup game
they watched an AC milan game from a few years ago where they sat back played 4-5-1 and got the team on the counter attack, 10 mins into the FFA game Phil changed to 442
Thats been the extent of our tatical training for 6 months

confidence is at a all time low and aint getting better anytime soon

Some have been doing extra fitness work too am I right?
The one training session I've been at, clacka ran through the formations and scenarios and it was mainly about getting forward passes happening and less sideways and backwards. Stubbins mainly sat up top and occasionally yelled out a few things. They spent a good hour at it

Can't find it now but there was an article where Kevin Muscat blasted the Hunter Stadium surface for not being entirely stable under foot and causing little injuries to Victory players.

It's quite possible that the lacklustre display on Friday was partly due to playing on the newly laid pitch the prior week. Having said that, if this is the case it is simply further evidence of a lack of control, planning and professionalism of Jets hierarchy, particularly the CEO. Robbie should have been putting pressure on Hunter Stadium, particularly through the media, to get the job done quicker. I mean, were they doing nightwork to get it completed? The stadium has its own lighting. The safety and performance of his players should have been in the forefront of the CEO's mind, not a drinking bird toy sitting on his desk.

Pretty sure Brisbane played on it as well. That being said, roll n play seems very organised to me as well

The point was that the Jets played on it the prior week as well and it may have turned their legs into bags of cement.

That's just more excuses.

Didn't seem to effect Victreewho aimed up for their game V Smurfs

The players had nearly a week for recovery/massage etc

Maybe the issue with their lethargy is they ain't fit enough and they had to do a pile more running in the heat due than was necessary to their shit skills which coughed up the ball incessantly and their shit tactics

THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS AFTER ALL

Not excuses, reasons.

It's important to understand the reasons behind what happens if you are going to fix anything. And as Friday was the worst performance by a Jets team ever, reasons are important.

It is a bit hard to compare the performance of the Jets to the performance of Victory because 6 of their regular first team players were out due to rep duty and injury. They have a lot more depth than we do and would be fitter. I don't know how they played on the weekend but they didn't win either.

If their strikers were more clinical, Victree would have been 5-0 up at half time. They dominated Sydney in the first half, completely lopsided and if the ref had given a warranted yellow card to Ryall about 50 seconds in, smurfs would have had a lot more trouble.

Due diligence is an investigation of a business or person prior to signing a contract, or an act with a certain standard of care.

It's also beyond the scope of Jets Management.

Ok, maybe it wasn't the pitch then.

I mean, were they doing nightwork to get it completed?.

I read somewhere that the Sun had it clearly stated in its CBA that it needed a set amount of rest each night between shifts.
This may have hampered progress.

Thanks Jeterpool :p

But still, chasing the game, and SVE brings on someone who hadn't scored in 53 A-League games! Hardly inspiring.

It has occurred to me that maybe we are using the incorrect model for running the club..
All of these aspirations of getting great results, playing exciting football, attracting talented players (local and foreign), etc etc.. For what?
The incentive rewards of money, love, respect, admiration, pride, integrity, immortality (being remembered as a great team, not living forever like MFKS) seems to get us nowhere..
May I suggest some other possible ways?

The VikingJet Model:
For all the regulars on the foz, you will know what I'm talking about.. A paddlesteamer full of gambling, booze and strippers/hookers/saucy wenches, with free pickup/drop off to The Argyle and as many pingers as they can shelf.. No win, no try, no heart on field? No access to VJ's floating island of debauchery and totally rockin' tits..

The Uday Hussein Model:
For people that don't know, I'll copy and paste straight from wikipedia - "Uday Hussein, was in charge of the Iraqi Olympic Committee and, by extension, the national football team. Under Uday's leadership, motivational lectures to the team included threats to cut off players' legs, while missing practice sessions would lead to a term in prison. A loss brought flogging with electric cable, or a bath in raw sewage."
*Now obviously this is extreme, and I'm not in any way condoning such actions*
But perhaps a revised version, "motivational lectures to the team included threats to 'Clockwork Orange' players eyes open and forced to watch 10 hours straight of Glee/Friends/Kardashians/the-horseshit-performace-they-just-delivered, while missing practice sessions would lead to a term in Windale with SB. A loss brought flogging with the goal netting that they were unable to find for 90 mins, or a bath in Tuggerah Lakes."

The Model Model:

I no longer care about results. I didn't even notice results. What the fvck are results???
Just bring a bird of this wazzle-factor out and noone will even notice that a football match apparently took place..
(And for anyone living under a rock, that Is Ronaldo's mrs.. Yet he still manages to stop hanging out of her and play some ok football.. NO EXCUSES!)

Just a few ideas, contemplations, thoughts..
Anything to make being a Jets fan more palatable..

No matter what happens we just announce to everyone that we won every game 10-0 and if anyone objects we just kill them.

Kim Jong Il model would definitely work, with free safari suits and glasses for all!!!!

The Jets have not put up a post-match story for this game on either their website or facebook.

I guess that means that the current model being adopted by the club is to censor bad results out of existence.
