@NewcastleJetsFC: The Newcastle Jets have named a 16-man squad for Friday night's clash with Perth Glory at nib Stadium http://t.co/6mNv4ZGYNd #PERvNEW #NTUA

Why do we name a squad early??

Why not just name the entire 23man squad and keep the actual team/squad under wraps from the public until the last minute.

it's pretty obvious who's going to be playing when only 16 players get on the plane... (remember, not a dollar more being spent than necessary. bad luck if one pulls a muscle on the flight)

More importantly Perth paying $1.40 to win the game

Paying better value to win the second half at $1.75 with our fitness woes and failures late on that looks good value.

Also Griff is paying $5 to score anytime in game and $12 to score 1st goal.

Best value though is $2.75 for us to get the spoon. As long is there is no Melburn Storm salary cap rort from some club almost guaranteed

After his goal in last week’s 3-1 loss to Wellington last week, veteran Joel Griffiths is expected to lead Newcastle’s attack, with Ecuardorian Edson Montano to come off the bench.

Formation change??

We have not changed our formation all season bar during the Roar game when Stubbins finally put 2 up front and even then the second striker was still withdrawn a little.
We persist in this 4-3-3 the only difference with it is that due to our ineptness it is often a 4-5-1 as the wide attackers are pinned back defending due to our ineptness leaving our central striker ridiculously isolated

They've been written off this week and added to the fact they aren't playing in front of the home fans (which SHOULDN'T be an advantage mind you) means they maybe, just maybe will rock up.

We were horrible again.. whatever... but Perth don't look anywhere near the best team in the HAL. They didn't offer too much for 60 minutes and actually gave our guys some confidence. Once we handed it to them i think they did everything they needed to do to earn 3 points but i wasn't impressed by them at all.

First goal was a cracker of an offside. Would love to hear them explain that one to Stubbs after the game.

Adelaide will be hurting after their loss this week, next week should be a good exhibition in attacking football.

"Shipping" goals is a back 5 unit issue. And we've been shipping goals al season, no matt the keeper.

Both goals tonight were not goalkeeping errors.

If you want both keepers held to the same standards go for it.

Birraz showed a distinct weakness in one area of his game, that opposing teams were starting to capitalise on, and it was costing us goals and points. Few of the goals we have "shipped" since the change have been from goalkeeping errors.

If birraz has worked on his aerial dominance of the space between his line and the defence, get him back, once BK starts constantly making an error that opposing teams capitalise on.

Problem was purely a lack of creativity and poor passing. Can't blame Griffo, he was feeding on scraps all night.
Gallagher was going too far forward at every opportunity and usually when Neville was pushed forward also. If he isn't quick enough to get back and cover when possession is lost, he shouldn't push forward in the first place.
Really hope Coops regains match fitness quickly, because he needs to start when Flores doesn't.

The tackle was a disgrace from a seasoned professional. Even if he got the ball he still would have put his studs through Jamieson legs and most likely still been sent

The bloke left his teammates high and dry for the last 10mins, let the coaches down, let the already suffering supporters down and sealed our fate last night.

For a bloke who has had a seasoned career it was pretty poor form and the perfect example of why he should never have been made captain. In times of trouble captains lead from the front inspiring their teammates.

Given that nobody had their season ended from the tackle there's not much evidence to support your conspiracy theory.

Last week you were critical of Montano and yet not a word about Griffo's performance last night.

The entire team is poor in one way or another and from what I'm seeing now the fans are getting just as poor / frustrated as well [myself included].

Just cause no one had their leg broken/season ended there is no place for those type of tackles. What is even worse is those that try and justify tackles of these nature as not being that bad. You go to ground with force and lead with your studs then deal with the consequences.

I decided to watch the match this morning because I was out last night and got through 50 odd minutes before I headed out. I saw something in the team during that time that makes me think there could perhaps be something in this side.
I thought caravella played ok. He did alright in the ball retention side of the playmaker but lacked any incision in forward passing.

I decided to watch how Perth moved the ball though midfield when compared to us. I we spread the pitch. Our wingers and defenders both hug the touch. Why? Perth seemed to tuck the wingers in a bit to create extra midfield bodies. Perth also play with one holder. We haven't done that since season 3 with musialik. Also Perth pass the ball and move it quickly. We regularly decide to take on players, dribbling it past 5 or 6 before thinking of laying it off. Quick ball movement will break teams down. We had a good little spell before the carney 1:1 because the ball was moved quickly.

Finally, our shape and coverage defensively is woeful. We need to piss Steele off already and use that spot for a proper left back.

Anyway, we had patches in the match. Not our worst performance by any stretch but still it's another loss and we have another two tough matches ahead. I'm betting we will write a new, unwanted, record win,Ess streak

Also why Stubbin's persists with inverted wingers baffles me. Neither Carney nor Hoole is great at shooting. They are not being played the ball into great positions to cut inside or attack the half spaces. I can think of a few occasions where we had a chance for a cutback in or near the box but due to their onefootedness they cut onto their preferred foot and by that time the opportunity is gone

Inside forwards makes more sense if they shoot, agreed. It almost makes a bit of sense on the right as well as Neville is decent going forward. It's absolutely mind boggling on the left though, Gallagher gets forward often but is awful and doesn't have Gallaway's pace to get back.

It would work better if both Hoole and Carney weren't entirely one footed. Completely one dimensional, stop and cut inside. Meh. At least go around the player a few times and hit a cross.

If you compare our play to just about any other team in the comp we are in slow motion. Ball movement, passing, dribbling everything. And I don't see it improving under Stubbins. I totally disagree about GVE style, there were plenty of games where our ball movement under GVE was the quickest it has ever been. It was the constant fear of losing possession and turning back that killed us under GVE, that and a stubbornly rigged formation.

I am all for letting a new manager have time to settle his team, but the mistakes Stubbins has made in recruitment have killed our season and doesn't leave me with any optimism that we can or will avoid the spoon.
