POWER: Dominik Ritter

JETS midfielder Ruben Zadkovich has tagged him ‘‘Dominik the Destroyer’’.
And that was without seeing Dominik Ritter in action.

The Swiss fullback and latest Jets arrival was introduced to his new teammates at training yesterday.

The 23-year-old did not take part in the session but will be on the bus when the Jets depart for Canberra today and coach Gary van Egmond confirmed the former Basel defender would play ‘‘about 20 minutes’’ in the trial match against the ACT Rockets on Wednesday night.

Ritter, a former Swiss under-20 representative, hopes to add pace and power to the Jets’ left flank.

If YouTube highlights are an indication, the left-footer appears suited to the up-tempo style that van Egmond intends to use.

‘‘The coach wants the defenders on the left and right side to go forward and attack,’’ Ritter said.

‘‘That is my game. I like to go forward and attack, make it two versus one.

‘‘I don’t like just defending. Maybe the best defence is to attack.’’

Ritter, a graduate of the Basel youth system, who sports a diamond stud in each ear, has spent the past two seasons playing for Winterthur in the Swiss second division.

‘‘This is a chance to experience something new,’’ he said. ‘‘It is an adventure. New language, new culture ... everything is new here and I am very excited.’’

‘‘Maybe later I go back to Europe. This is not the end for me.’’

Ritter, who is sharing an apartment with Craig Goodwin, the player he will challenge for the left-back spot, said he knew little about the A-League.

The Jets have taken the full senior roster, bar Connor Chapman, Mitch Cooper, Josh Brillante and Jack Duncan who are in Indonesia with the Australian under-20 side, to Canberra, where they will be based at the Australian Intsitute of Sport for four days.

Jobe Wheelhouse (foot), Marko Jesic (quad) and Adam Taggart (groin) are on the mend from injury and will not be considered for the game.

thought everybody's new favourite swissman deserved his very own thread.

can't wait for goaliepersempre to have the mega big swiss flag waving tbh.

Couldn't get a gig in the swiss 1st division???

But he looks like a bit of fiery character, so i hope he tears it up on that left flank, and can get some good service in.

They also said that griff and Bridgey were complaining about their digs at the AIS.

The destroyer had a good run the herald speaks the truth. From what I saw last night either brown or himself would be the fastest players in the team. He was calm on the ball and played some nice confident passes, his run for the setup of oxburrows?' goal started on our 18 and involved a nice 1-2 with chilli before he whipped in a nice cross.

his challenges in the box were hard and clean I didn't get any of the nervousness that I've had with past jets playera when the opposition are in the box that a penalty is about to be given away. I look forward to seeing him in action against aleague opposition.

A pretty good headache for GVE to have. Both lads playing well. Big bonus is that both players are capable at playing multiple positions.
Great to see Taggart on the score sheet again.
In the Herald article it mentioned that Goodwin and Ritter are house mates.
All the young lads seem to be the goods so far.
