Jesmond ZL1 will commence training tonight and continue Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm at Heaton Park Jesmond. Different squad this year with losing a few to Charlestown and also gaining some. Will know more after tonight but still think we're looking to fill some spots in the squad.... Phone Mick on 0412 449 33 or Luke on 0431 331 889.

So how are teams looking for the upcoming season ?

At Kotara Tigers we have had good numbers turning up, close to 60
First trial match this weekend against Olympic ID2 @ Darling St

Also Nesbitt Park has had all new drainage installed so hopefully for the first time that i can remember it will be able to cope with rain...

That's good numbers. How'd you go against Hamikton? They're a handy side.

Played cricket on Nesbitt Park this season and the ground was super green and left fairly lush, made it tough to score runs on but it'll be better for the soccer season no doubt

Harbour derby is a good day, when at yours hit the washtub after, and ours at lowlands. Yeah we've got a fair few ZPL guys drop down now we went into newfm so we feel pretty strong in 1sts and res but you never know till season starts. No idea what 3rd grade is like in ZL1

ramsbelong@jesmondpark
02-03-2015, 08:03 PM
Certainly wouldn't be so quick to throw us out there as favourites. We lost the spine of our grand final team to Charlestown. Sweeper, centre back, midfielder and striker. Cb and cm were a part of every 1st grade award on presentation night. They may play this down but it's the truth. Other teams such as Kotara have been in ZL1 a lot longer than our one year too.

As for our win over Toronto, yes we're proud of that but without being disrespectful I'd be concerned going into their season. Until the authorities realise that all this criteria actually prevents teams 11 - 20 from actually competing against each other then there will be disparity in 2nd division and ZPL.

C'mon man
02-03-2015, 09:33 PM
Look some team has to get the favourite tag!! Jesmond who made the GF last year and played brilliantly should have it on that basis.
I don't know bout some new teams coming in but I do know that we will respect all teams and I think that this year it's totally up for grabs...

Yeh nothing really in it. Few reactions coming from local bloke with the whistle not pulling anything up. All shook hands at the end. Can honestly say we had the better game IMO. Hit posts numerous times and had balls cleared off the line. Jeso scored from a set piece flick on header and chipped the keeper from 40 with 5 mins to go. They look really solid at the back. I'm sure they'd agree we matched them through the game and we can take a lot of confidence knowing we can step up and new boys in our time are really starting to click

ramsbelong@jesmondpark
14-03-2015, 12:12 PM
Will agree with much of the above, only recall Stockton hitting post once though. Did have one chance cleared off line and did force a very sharp save from our gk so couldn't have complained with a different scoreline. Certainly weren't the better team in any aspect of the game though or had the better game. Can't agree there. Impressed though.
Ref was from our junior committee. Did his best but he'll probably admit he's not up to an official standard. He let too much go from both sides which lead to frustration but common sense prevailed from players for the most part.
There may be a couple of teams struggle this year but Stockton will be more than competitive. Physical side which will rattle a few teams on that aspect alone. Good luck for the season, thanks for the kick.

Yeah subburbs is a good squad with a good balance, but going from 0 points from the first handful of games without him, to not losing a game until I think the semis with him says something. The amount of Freakish solo goals he scores is the X factor in any side.

Pulled with him 3 other quality players last year to suburbs and strengthened them right across the park. All have since left. Agree he is an awesome player but is coming to play with mates. We won yesterday against quality opposition without him. No reason why we can't be strong with our without one player

His effect on a team is dependant on the said teams formation and tactics when he is playing.

I personally thought Terrace were a better side without him. Less direct and played better football. One man can only do so much.

Agree , Lez is a great individual addition to any struggling team that are happy to pass Lez the ball and watch, losing lez at the terrace last year was a bit of a blow but def played more enjoyable football as a team. Big question is.... Is he harder to play with or against. Even bigger question..... Will a team full of egos have room for one more. Only time will tell

If people are saying Stockon already had solid foundations then yes this would put a zone league one sides odds way up if he was going to play a lot.

There are good players scattered among all zone leagues for work reasons etc cant commit higher. But his pace is often unmatched by zone league defenders and simple through ball to Lez all day will win you matches as his finishing is great to. I know because my mate had to coach against him a couple of years back. It was a nightmare!

Lost 4 to Charlestown from last years grand final side including captain. Picked up 2 quality first graders as well as getting their striker back from long term injury and central defender who thought he was a third grade striker. I think recent results including FFA cup wins over Toronto and Mayfield show they will be competitive this year. I believe they have also strengthened the lower grades as well.

Anyways. Big effort by the lads yesterday to come from behind twice. Both bay goals came from our keeper dropping the ball right into the path of a bay player in the first half. Cookers are a solid outfit and had the better of general play.

WL put together a few decent passages but found it diffuicult to break down CH.

Caught 2nd half of Kotara & Nelson(s) Bay. Good open game. Kotara had the better of possession with plenty of once touch stuff.
NBay never gave up, put 3 in & had a pen saved. Not sure of team strengths but if Bay can add 1 or 2 stronger 1sters they'd be up there.

Not so much picked up from elsewhere, they came down from ZPL last year due to newfm age restrictions. All cookers boys through and through. The ZL3 guys are mostly res and 3rds now. That 1sts team from ZL3 last year, when all there were decent, but it was hard to get the best 11 on the park week in week out.

With the rain forecast i can see councils keeping all grounds closed this weekend.
I was chatting to someone last night from a L2 team who thinks their ground would be alright to play on the weekend, even if we got a bit of rain, but it needs mowing and council cant guarantee that will happen as they are flat out cleaning up still.

Mo town played well last night and deserved the win at the end of the day. I felt that for the first 30-35 minutes we were right in the mix for the match and were a chance of finally getting off the mark in the goal scoring department but 2 quick goals before half time took the wind out of our sails. We were pretty well parked in our own half the second half and so that resulted in a lot of long ball clearing which obviously isn't ideal but credit to morriset for putting us under the pump with a real physical and classy style of play. Special mention to the crowd which weren't shy of giving it to a few of our players. It was all clean and in good spirit which is what you want.

If we put 5 past stocko I'm sure there will be free beers all round after the game haha.

Nelson Bay vs Westlakes
3rds 1-0, 1-1, 2-1. Second goal from bay was a stroke of fortune as an attempted clearance from the keeper from a throughball hit the chasing defender and fell to the striker for a tap in. Pretty close game.

Res was 4-1 I think. Bomb of a goal to WL early on from around 35 or 40m over the keeper. Soft goal from a keeping error equalised. Not sure on the rest of the goals.

1sts 2-0. Goal to the bay around 15 or 20 in to the half was probably just rewards for having a few good attacks, causing some issues down our right side. A lot of chances created for us but nothing sticking, felt we had the best of the second half with NB still threatening on the counter and sealed the deal a few out from full time. Pretty devastating loss and thought we deserved better. But you can only get so far without putting any in the net.

Yeah we have picked up a couple of new players as well as a few returning players and a lot of youth stepping up for our 3rds, everyone is stepping up to cover some unfortunate season ending injuries we suffered in pre season but all is going well atm

Did a Stockton player in reserves get two yellow cards and the ref didnt send him off, our bench overhead a guy say hed received two and someone told him to get back out there?

I know that even happens at World Cup level ha but surely he shouldnt drop the ball like that, but i will give him the benefit of the doubt, he was handing out a fair few cards

No he was warned by the red along with your striker that the next time those two had a tangle there will only be one card and it'll be red

Deserved result from Morisset yesterday. Class outfit and bossed the midfield. Wanted it more from the get go and took us 60 mins before we actually started playing decent football. Happy with our boys attitude to keep coming till the end but too many silly mistakes and cheap turnovers kept us on the backfoot. We certainly know we can improve from that performance. And yes still were short on numbers and suspensions don't help. Good physical game and credit to everyone didn't let it boil over. Only gripe was with the ref seemed extremely inconsistent in my opinion although that's still no excuse and Morisset were deserved winners. From what I've seen they are the benchmark this year with some real class all over the park. Looking forward to the return leg at Shark park. Now looking forward to our Wednesday catch up of the harbour darby!

Westlakes will be a massive chance to get their first win of the season against Warners Bay this weekend. From all reports, WB are down on players as half the squad has taken up a hair and nails package on Groupon.

Interesting times for the weekend.

Scoring a goal this season would be as much of a win for Westlakes at this point. For a team that boasted as many as 9 starters in the 2013 zone league all star team they sure have disappointed so far this year.

We're secretly hoping big dunc falls back into his 2013 ways this weekend if the game gets on and nets a few for the cats. As for the 2013 allstar squad I don't know how many players of this 9 still remain I'm guessing not many if any

Yeah, so close and yet so far once again for us in the quest to find some net. We gave it a fair crack in the first half.. one or two of those go in and it might be a different game. But hasn't been the way for us this season, and the game got away from us a bit after you guys got the second. People lost their cool a little.

On another note there were plenty of head scratchers from the officials, I woulda lost count the amount of times 90% of the players would have agreed on a decision only for the ref to give it the other way. And the FK's and penalty for a player kicking another player rather than the ball and going down, seemed incorrect to me. Both teams for the large part rode the rollercoaster of decisions fairly well though. I'll look forward to the return leg.

Wish the bero bloke from thirds the best in his recovery. Not sure how they got around but some blokes at the pub had pictures of his xray scans and it didn't look great. A bad start to what was an otherwise entertaining day.
From what I heard our ressies had about 200 shots at goal without troubling the keeper too much. I did see a couple of nice saves.
First grade would have been a good game for the spectators, pretty end to end with some suspect defense from both teams leading to a lot of attacks. We felt a bit hard done by when not awarded a goal for a ball lying a foot over the line, although neither of the refs were in much of a position to see it was still hard to take. 2-1 at half time, much of the same with chances at both end. Bero equalised about 3 out from fulltime with a nice free kick. Keeper got fingertips to it but could only push it into the underside of the bar. Bero certainly came home stronger in the last 10 minutes or so, it was clear to see we weren't very comfortable frontrunners lol. Our right mid was subbed off and has since confirmed a broken collarbone, I think he's looking at 6-8 weeks at the moment.
Was a fun game to be a part of, although disappointing not to hang on to the three points. Another round 2 clash we'll look forward to, cheers guys.
