SQUADRON STATEMENT: BRING BACK THE GOLDEN YEARS
“Football would be without enjoyment if you removed the possibility of doing something about it”
While we don’t demand fans follow our lead it has been decided by The Squadron FSC that we make a demonstration to show our displeasure at the current running of our club the Newcastle United Jets.
We believe the ideal way without removing our support for the eleven players on the field is that we begin to wear our former colours, gold, on game day. This can be from an old Jersey to a gold t-shirt.
This movement is not confined to the active bays but the whole stadium.
Gold was the colour we wore when we had a club to be proud of and where some of the city’s finest soccer memories have come from.
From our first a-league game in August 05, our grand final win in 2008 and our games in Asia. The memories in gold are endless.
This is not a protest against the colours of the club, more a disapproval at how our club is being run and what it stands for today.
We support the club in victory and defeat but we do not support the way the club is being run at the moment.
We don’t demand ownership changes but we need to see that current management has a real and successful plan for club revival, that the club is being held accountable and providing the best product for all loyal fans throughout the Hunter who back the club.
We as Newcastle United Jets fans are the most loyal fans in the league and deserve so much better.
Wear Gold and
BRING BACK THE GOLDEN YEARS
#Gold4Newy.
Furns will be on 1233 after 5pm today talking this up.
Let's get it going, sharing and getting people involved through your own social media would be appreciated.

He has to retain a level of trust with the players. If he spills the beans without the players' consent, he might as well draw up his resignation

Yeah I'm starting to think he's an imposter hired by the Jets Ministry for Information. Turned up to the Player meeting and said "hey guys, I was just up here for the Socceroo game, what's up?" They unloaded and he relayed to Tinks that Clacka and the boys sided with the players and then went on ABC to let everyone know that everything is fine and Tinks knows what he is doing.

To do something on Friday, in front of all the AFC/FFA suits in attendance, on national and Asia wide television will embarrass them somewhat. Even just gathering on the hill or similar.

Fans plan golden protest over club
THE Squadron supporters group secretary Toby Mills said Jets fans were the ‘‘real losers’’ in the turmoil consuming the club.
The Squadron on Wednesday called on fans to wear gold shirts in protest against the management of the club.
The Jets wore gold during the first six seasons of the A-League, before owner Nathan Tinkler adopted the Knights colours of red and blue in 2011-12 as part of his ‘‘Team Newcastle’’ vision.
Who do you think is most to blame for the turmoil at the Jets?
The crisis deepened on Wednesday after the Jets said they had sacked players Kew Jaliens, David Carney, Billy Celeski, Joel Griffiths and Adrian Madaschi as well as staff Clayton Zane, Neil Young and Andrew Packer.
‘‘If the issues aren’t sorted out, the real losers are the fans,’’ Mills said. ‘‘We’re the people who have to show up week in week out and put up with this.
‘‘We don’t want to remove our support for the team and club, because you look how it went in North Queensland and the Gold Coast when things went pear-shaped there and people left the club enmasse and they no longer have clubs.’’
The Jets play their next game against Brisbane Roar at Hunter Stadium on February 6. The Squadron’s numbers have slumped in recent seasons, due to the Jets’ form and internal issues.
Mills said he was urging, not just The Squadron, but all Jets fans around the stadium to wear gold and send a clear message to Tinkler and Football Federation Australia.
‘‘What we wanted to do with wearing the gold kits was basically have something that is simple, visual and can be done by the masses,’’ he said.
‘‘Everyone who’s supported the club for years would probably have a gold kit or a piece of gold merchandise they can put on and say, ‘Look, I’m unhappy with how things are going,’ and I would love to see the stadium filled with gold shirts as it would show the football people in Newcastle actually care about the club.’’
It is not known whether Tinkler will be in charge of the Jets by the next home game as the FFA is understood to have set a deadline of Saturday for him to prove he is running the club properly.
Mills said The Squadron did not support nor condemn Tinkler but were demanding professional management of the club.
‘‘It’s the devil you know or the devil you don’t,’’ he said.
‘‘If the FFA take over and sell it to someone who might want to take them to south-west Sydney or somewhere like that, the FFA probably won’t stand in their way.
‘‘If Nathan Tinkler wants to keep the club here and runs it properly, that’s a good thing.’’
The FFA has said it was committed to having a team in Newcastle.
Note: before player sacking occurred.

So to maximise a bit of impact with this protest Friday what say we start at a pre determined time to draw attention away from the game to us.
Kick Off probably not such a good idea as the cameras will stay with the game.
Lets pick a certain minute in the game when the protest starts and the cameras are obliged to show us instead of the game as we are the most poignant thing happening

Ask everyone dressed in gold kit to assemble behind the goal on the southern hill just after kickoff, even those with tickets to the stands and kids especially. The idea being to recreate the incredible harmony of GF day when all types besides active support stood as one behind the goal.
At eight minutes a chant of some type (maybe just the "Jets" chant), placards/tifo raised for one full minute (at least till Fox catches it), applause around the stadium and then everyone can go back to their seats, community job done.
Shame the 2008 pullover doesn't exist anymore.

So are you talking about doing something at the Oman v Iraq game this Friday and not the Jets game next Friday?
IMO that's inappropriate. For a start, it's not even an FFA game, its an AFC game. So yes, it will be extremely embarrassing for the FFA as they will see it as Aussie fans trying to do something political at an AFC event, so what do expect to get out of it? We need the FFA on side for an ownership transition. We need them to stop giving out the Newcastle license without appropriate due diligence. And when they are just talking about giving Newcastle more Socceroo games in the future, why would you embarrass them?
You are better to hold your powder until the Roar game.

I think the full gold protest behind the goal will have more impact at the Roar game...mainly as that is the theme for the night and there will be the full compliment of Jets fans there. Alot of Fridays support will be out of towners and many locals will just watch it on the tele. We would want max numbers behind the goal. Also, as we saw with the pitch invasion the other night, Fox might not be keen on showing something that might go worldwide.
That said, I do feel something should be done this week as FFA suits are in town.
Was just thinking exactly the same thing Member.

There is a difference between FFA sitting on their arse doing nothing and them making sure everything is legit when they revoke the licence. We don't know what the FFA are doing behind the scenes. They have a vested interest in a successful product because future TV deals are reliant on it.

If anyone got ripped off in the license transfer, it was Con not Tinkler. I would not say they ripped him off.
A license has a value as has been proven with the sale of Brisbane, Melbourne City and WSW. Maybe Con should have seen the writing on the wall and tried to sell it himself before asking for FFA help, but they didn't advise him or give him an opportunity, unlike Tinkler who has had the club on the market for a while now.

How are we being irrational or impulsive??
I would say we have been quite tolerant of the circus at our club for some time.
Standing up for ourselves isn't immature at all and it is a display that shows we are passionate.
If someone was treating one of the Sydney or Melburn clubs this way they would be all over it in a flash.
But no its Newy and we have been treated as second class citizens by them and made to wait for action.
After yesterdays shenanigans from Tinkler if FFA don't act and respond today they are letting us down big time

From here:
http://footballcentral.com.au/jets-in-turmoil-where-to-next/#.VMmhImiUeSo
With the FFA having recently threatened to step in and take control of the Jets, it appears the Tinkler era is coming to an end at Hunter Stadium. What is not certain, however, is just what lies beyond that for the Jets and their loyal fanbase. Football Central has learnt that FFA CEO David Gallop has been using the Asian Cup as a platform to shop Newcastle to prospective buyers, with an increase in potentially suitable candidates within earshot during the tournament.
One potential buyer is the Thompson family, owners of Scottish Premiership club Dundee United. Fairfax Media reported in December of last year that United Chairman Stephen Thompson had visited Australia “as part of a wide-ranging fact-finding mission”. Thompson served on the United board from 2002 when his family purchased the club, and took over as Chairman at Tannadice in 2008 after the death of his father Eddie.
Two independent sources have told Football Central that the Thompson family are close to taking over control of the Jets, with the framework for a deal with the FFA already in place.

I find this crazy.
This is pandering to the ffa again. A sign of of protest is still appropriate. Doesnt have to be anything big or loud but some sneaky visuals would be great.
the ffa has often been tardy in helping us out from our problems so if they are a little hurt maybe they will step up smartly. Or, if they decide to become unprofessional and call us out it will be business as usual.
Actually our situation has fkd my interest in this cup so all for it.

Totally agree
They do nothing for us
They are slow in dealing with this
We are being taken for granted
Why do we owe them anything??
As for the garbage about kicking us out of the AFC they can't.
They need FIFA to approve and that won't happen as the political fall out will be huge
If it embarrasses the FFA so what?? They are allowing the city of Newy and jets fans to suffer and to be embarrassed by Tinkler. They are also responsible for Griff suffering

If it embarrasses the FFA so what?? They are allowing the city of Newy and jets fans to suffer and to be embarrassed by Tinkler.
What do you expect them to do exactly to stop us from "suffering".
When a club gets an A-League license the roles and responsibilities of the FFA and the club are clearly spelled out in the license agreement. In Tinkler's case, as with others, they paid a lot of money for the license and are entitled to a certain level of autonomy in running the club. The FFA can't tell Tinkler to sack his CEO or Chairman or anything like that, they can only tell him that he has to have a CEO and a Chairman.
The only time the FFA can step in is when a club is bringing the game into disrepute or is breaching the terms of the license agreement. And even then, they have to make sure that they have a course of action to follow. The tv rights agreement says they have to have a 10 team comp. Foxtel won't be happy if they suddenly kick out a team.
General "lack of community engagement" is a nebulous term, so even then they can't do anything except encourage the club to engage their community more.
Just because a club chooses to come last every year, it would still be hard for them to act. They have to prove that the club is not attempting to field a competitive team in specific ways. So if a club is coming last but still winning a few games here and there, and are within salary cap parameters, they can't do anything.
I think you are confusing the current situation of separate legal entities with a kind of franchise system where head office can order the branches around.
I think the FFA finally has grounds to act. Their setting of the 31/1 deadline is evidence of this. Don't do anything silly 1 day before this deadline expires.
Just wait. It will all unfold next week.

Isn't it the someone from AFC that is looking to challenge Blatter?
Isn't it the AFC that is making rumblings about voting Australia out of AFC?
What better way to continue the corruption than tell Blatter you won't oppose his next term if FIFA vote to boot Australia out of AFC.

So you put all your faith in an organisation who is responsible for a inflicting Tinkler upon us has forced his hand to stay and than has done nothing to deal with the issues he has inflicted on the code and the game?? If Tinkler has breached his licence as you reckon he has why wait until next week?? If it is to keep a lid on shit cause the Asian Cup is on and then act next week then they are actually not doing their job. By not acting they are the allowing the clubs name and the HAL to be dragged through the mud by Tinkler
Anyway I think we are getting off track here anyway. The gripe isn't with the FFA anyway. It is with Tinkler and Stubbins.
FFA are a small part player in this my point is they are not without a share of culpability in the equation. Due to their culpability and lack of prompt action they ain't on the ball. Courtesy to them should not be forthcoming when they are not showing us any

No it isn't the AFC wanting Australia Out. It is a few Arab countries who were the dumb ****s who let us in in the first place and are now regretting it as we have swallowed up a WC berth and with Sth Korea and Japan having a mortgage on 2 others it means the rest of them are playing for one. Just a case of sour grapes from a few and the gripe isn't going anywhere.

3000 Fairweather fans need to have a look good look in mirror.
Before anyone goes of with the predictable "what makes you think your a better fan then everyone else".
Of course there are reason you can't make games but lets face in the 3000 that didn't show up/boycott/couldn't be bothered are an embarrassment to our club culture and themselves.
FFS what don't they understand of NEVER TEAR US APART?
So when things turn around and this 3-4000 fans come back to games are we ment to welcome them with open arms?
Yet if we turn our backs on the 3000 that abandoned our club we cop the backlash of "what makes you think you are a better fan". Makes me sick these fairweathers think they are supporting the club.

west no comment. but by the number and of seats, had needed to be basically at capacity for most of the reported "numbers" you've all choked down all year.
face it, you've been lied to to make the clubs situation seem better than it is.
Of course its always been lies. The promises of strong management, recruitment, ownership caring.

Yes very true. Anyone want my St Pauli flag for this weekend? Anyone else practicing MMA?
That's probably a silly question. Too many Newy legends concerned with MDMA.
