The Jets have advertised an offer for Members to bring 2 friends along to the game on Friday night against Sydney FC.
http://www.newcastlejets.com.au/article/members-only-bring-2-friends-for-free-vs-sydney-fc/1254bfg1btg4k1imsvzd0k536c
We would like to urge all those who have season tickets in Bay 60 (or even elsewhere in the stadium) to redeem their offer for Bay 60 tickets, bring some mates and lets pack out the active support bay for the visit of The Cove to Hunter Stadium.
We received great feedback from fellow supporters regarding Bay 60 for the Derby, it would be great to make this game even bigger and better.
All Members have been sent an email with instructions on how to redeem their tickets, and the offer must be taken up by midnight Thursday 5th March.
If you dont have anyone to give your tickets to, dont worry just bring your spare tickets along to the Tenzo before 7pm and Squadron committee members will hand them out for you, either at the Tenzo or at the Western gates of the stadium.

So I pay my money for a season ticket to turn up and watch the circus unfold week in week out, watch boring football, see us win 1 ****ing game, see our squad decimated by the ego of one clown and accumulate enough points that you would not be stopped from driving a car if it was traffic infringements and ****s are allowed to come watch the shit on Friday for free.
Exactly how the **** is that fair to the 10k of people they fleeced and have delivered sweet **** all to other than heartbreak all season long??

Exactly.
Hard enough at the moment to justify a season ticket next year for the family give. The shit state of the club and coach. But throw in the fact they are constantly giving out freebies to non members, why bother signing up.
I'm a sucker that loves his seats so I will, but all these member rewards that actually devalue our ticket shit me to tears. By itself I don't mind this promo, but of late it's almost a weekly thing to offer cheap tickets to non members.
I'd prefer they work on getting the 10,000 members to want to turn up and resign rather than give out freebies to a group where the vast majority won't sign up for a season.
At the moment they are losing more than they attract.

Also at the moment I'd rather smaller crowd and hoping we loose 5,6 or 7 nil. I see it as a better chance to get rid of Mr 1 in 20.....

Announce they have made a player signing for next season.
Bloke by the name of Joel Michael Griffiths.
Believe he has ties to the region with family and a business in the area and may be easily convinced to sign particularly if the coach is sacked. Apparently bloke is curing disease in New Zealand as we speak

I don't need or expect to be thanked.
But I also don't expect to buy a season pass to then have promotions all through the back half of the season giving away free (or severely discounted) tickets.
Surely marketing 101 should be to not alienate your regular paying customers.
Yes you need to attract new fans, but at a time when half your member base has stopped coming (I don't believe for a second that there was 7,990 fans against the Mariners) the biggest issue would be to engage with that group and find out why they are so disenfranchised/disconnected with the club.

They know why, we aren't winning and Phil's a muppet. Either point the front office guys can't do much about till Tinks agrees to sack phil.
And I agree, I'd hate to the maths and work out what you'd spend if you just waited for the discount tickets and not bought a membership..... But they've gotta be. Doing something to get new folk along.

Send him out on loan to " learn " his trade somewhere else.
TBH I love that they're giving free tickets out (inb4 militiamon references "my media mate"). It gives me an excuse to force some of my friends and family who have given up on the Jerks, and didn't buy tickets solely because they are over it, to come again. And who knows - maybe they'll get the fire back and want to support the club again. And similarly, maybe it will make them hate the club even more - but at least I get a night of hanging out with them again.

Disagree with the rusted on bit. The reality is we have 3-4k of fans who ain't rusted on as they ain't fronting at present due to the situation.
Add in there are a pile who are who are only fronting cause they have paid already and will NOT pay next year.

Sometimes i love reading the crap that comes off the keyboards of some people.
You've already paid for you ticket because you want to be a member, if someone else comes for free it doesn't affect your ability to watch the game in anyway. It doesn't lessen the worth of your membership.. No one will steal your seat... What could you possibly have against more people being at the game then would've come normally?
Pull your heads out of your arses and start showing that you are an actual fan and not just a bunch of entitled idiots who think because they have a season ticket they somehow "own" part of the club.
I'm pissed off at the current state of the club as well, things need to change in many ways, but complaining about more people being at a game is the most idiotic thing i've read on this forum.

We have some saying they dont want anything, others complaining that non-members get freebies.

But 3000 there on Friday would be a strong message clearly demonstrating Stubbins IS NOT WANTED. I find it extremely difficult to support the club with that muppet running the show. No one in that business would have survived 1 in 20. It was his team (Madashi, Flores, Neuman, Celeski, Steele, Gallagher, Welsh, Carney, Caravello, Montano.......all signed / re-signed / came back after Mr 1 in 20 signed on the 5th of May). Clearly this plan to bring more people to the game is coming up trumps. We are going backwards quickly. Close to half the paid members have turned their backs on the club and aren't turning up and the crowd figures are questionable at best. If we are lucky this week the travelling Sydney fans will prop up the numbers.
Reality is, if you devalue the membership enough, irrespective of team performance (unless we are killing it), people will not renew. I am planning to renew next season, but instead of a family of 4 purchasing Gold Memberships, it may be me flying solo. I know of several other families in the same situation, and its not the cost of buying memberships that is the issue. Its the feeling of being taken for granted by the club administration.
So what do you think they should do to look after or thank the members?

The issue the club has is that a big number of already paid members have turned their back (call them plastic or whatever you will, but they are gone). Now with these promotions giving away seats in bulk, the reality is, there is a large chunk of paid members who are still turning up that are not impressed.
Granted they need to enter into and explore new markets for fans, but if you can't retain and consolidate those who have already committed then numbers will go backwards very quickly. Any new members they pick up from these promotions is unlikely to come close to replacing those that have left.
Now if the team was going well, and the off field issues were sorted, there would be less backlash from members on this sort of promotion. I acknowledge that. There would be less of a need for it though, and we probably wouldn't see free tickets being thrown around so heavily.
This is a rare occasion where I really agree with The Member.

Totally disagree with the bile spewing from the good Member's keyboard for once.
To much in this world is "all about me" - when people think like this they get caught up in their own paranoia and tell everyone they are right to the exclusion of all other opinion. This is how wars, strikes, love triangle murders - geez, just bout every argument under the sun escalates. We draw a line in the sand with no co-operation or negotiation.
Do you honestly think the club has thought - "let's give away free tickets and get rid of the noisy old fans, like we did with the noisy, old players and start again" ????
Yes the current regime is on the nose but we must face facts - the season is a write-off, Griff is gone forever, Tinkler will be in control for some time yet and we won't change coaches until at least 3 months into next season. Alot of damage has been done and will take time to repair. Beyond all that, we do still have a football team to support.
Someone in the club has offered a small olive branch that anyone who knows about charity, givers gain and the law of attraction will see as a small positive.
I would not care if they threw the gates open for the rest of the year. This is about engaging the Newcastle community, not keeping a small group of self centred "real fans" inflated omnipotence satiated. You might find a number of disengaged members may decide to come as they can bring a couple of mates for free. I don't think it will add more than a few hundred to the gate but I see nothing wrong with the initiative at face value.

Totally agree with this.
Also, these free tickets aren't going to change people's perception of the club and Stubbins. They will be just as hated after the game as they are now. But it might help the boys in the pitch take 3 points off ScumFC. If an extra 500 people turn up and give stick to Arnold and his little boys in blue then i'm all for it.

So you usually agree with the bile that spews from my keyboard??
It has nothing to do with my feeling of self importance. This is an issue that shows how out of touch they are with the community in general. They have 10k of members that they have treated very poorly this season and in recent years. They should be doing as much as they possibly can to entice every single one of these members to stick around next year.
No they ain't out there doing that what they are doing is chasing an extra couple of hundred for the crowd this weekend by offering up free access to the same people who chose not to take up the dirt cheap Membership Offer Anyway and most will not join next year or be back anytime soon either.
In the meantime they are taking their existing customers for granted by giving away the exact same thing they paid money for for free. It also isn't the first event they have had this season giving special treatment to the plastic fans out there
Forget me cause I will be there next season anyway but how many of our other pissed off Membership base are gonna look at this and use it to contribute to their decision to not renew next year?? Great idea that just to get an extra couple of bums on a seat this one weekend.

Let me pass on a message that came from the ceo - ultimately what will fix our situation is winning. The coach is being given the opportunity to change things (with signing new players etc)
If we don't start winning at some point - then change will need to be made.
That's directly from the horses mouth, as it were.
The free/discount tickets is what HSG did when they first took over from Con - bad press & feeling around the club and low crowds meant that they needed to get some new supporters in or get some of the disenfranchised back. They will work on adding value to the memberships to entice people to renew to launch in the offseason.
What will also entice people to purchase memberships for next season is to see a decent team being built, a coach who knows what they are doing and one or several marquee players who fit the club. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
So what do you think they should do to look after or thank the members?
theyre trying to engage a new market, or bring back some close to those already committed.

The only way in the world we get 10k Members next season is if

Get a Decent Manager whom the fans respect
Make some exciting signings

End of the day unless these things happen we are no chance in the world of getting near 10k. If we do these things I am confident we will get the 10k or go mighty close to it
As for what I would like the club to do. Quite Frankly the answer is nothing on the Membership/Ticketing front. Quite frankly the damage is done and any effort on it at present is pissing into the wind so to speak.
What I would like to see the club do is actually get their house in order. Until this is done we are still up shit creek without the paddle etc and all these fancy ticket schemes and fan enticement schemes are worth absolute squat.
I know what you are saying the club won't sack Stubbins etc well to me there are 2 sides to this.
Continuing to back 1 in 20 means they ain't serious about retaining their 10k Membership base and are happy with 5k they will get.

Tbh, I just think we need to get a respectful manager. If the manager doesn't have the balls to face the fans like Stubbins, then they have to go. Even Gary when he was on the ropes would still come out from the tunnel where the squadron are now and face the fans. Stubbins slinks out when everyone's attention is on the players.

So we keep this Stubbins mong on, come last, give him 5 games in to next season then sack him....Brilliant. Then the next coach can be shit but it'll be a season to rebuild and transition.... Probably the best plan I've ever heard.
If we don't start winning at some point? surely it's a bit too late for that?

i haven't paid a red cent to go to a game all year (been to 2/3 approx) and even i'm legit fuming over this debacle.
this club can't heal while the current "consumers" turn up to games. it justifies their approach. they need to be stung in the pockets to force change. not going along, not bringing freebies along, together with voicing your right to not renew next year, is the only message they'll understand. anything less is papier mache-ing over the cracks.
the memberships also need to return to reasonable prices to have any value.
I'd be psyched if I had 2 mates

For the shit you diehards get served up, they need to be cheaper than they are.

poor choice of words on my behalf. i meant prices are far too cheap, that the ticket basically has no value. this over-inflates our membership numbers beyond the number of people who truly want to be members.
when we get crowds consistently lower than our members numbets, yet there's still big lines for matchday tickets, it suggests that a large percentage of our "members" aren't actually turning up.
how many members so wd have who were on the auto-pay plan who were basically too lazy to call up and cancel?
ino the club needs a purge. if you had a dog this unwell you'd have it put down. :'(
I would say we also have a lot of the 10k who bought the full Membership for 13 games knowing full well they planned to only make say 7-8 games with other commitments etc and be better off financially this way than buying 7-8 individual match tickets

this i agree 100% on.
membahs spot on as well. if i only went 4 games it still would be cheaper.

Increasing the prices potentially* means more income for the club. This can then be used to better fund the backroom and coaching staff and the respective work they do. There is a fine balance where price rises won't be accepted and you start to lose members as a result and those that will be accepted.
I'm sure Mr Murphy would agree that if you remove the reason for people to baulk and point out what we're doing wrong, the more likely they are to accept.
* I'm not sure how many people would see this though and say "what?!? You've put the prices up $100 on last year despite how you've performed the last 5 seasons? **** off!"

Snake is right.
The good Member is right.
our club has been in a race to the bottom since Tinkler took over and now seem shocked they have successfully arrived there.

I am shocked that we aren't there yet. If Wanderers don't get their shit together, we may miss out on that which we truly deserve.

Only reason we not there is because they won ACL and they still have 2 games in hand

I'm not talking about the table.
I'm talking about the whole club.

Oh, right.
I still don't think we are there.
