View Full Version : Will you renew your membership if Tinkler remains owner and Stubbins coach?

This question needs to be asked as I am hereing from many current members that they will not be renewing their Jets membership for next season. Nothing has really changed in regards to Tinkler, he has made some outstanding payments but the bottomline is that he has only been able to keep the club afloat because of handouts from wealthy businessman Gerry Harvey. Stubbins has basically decimated a decent squad which he had plenty of input into assembling and has basically blamed others for his own inadequacies as a coach. With a record of 1 win in 20 and the stigma now attached to him, how can we seriously build for next season and beyond with him still at the helm?
Enough is enough for me!

No membership renewal here. I will certainly continue to attend the odd game but at this point in time i will just watch on Fox at home.

I just can't get my head around the thought of giving this mob any of my money, to give them money is to feel like i condone how they run things and nothing could be further from the truth.

I can look past Tinkler owning the club and leave the FFA to deal with him but for the club to try and convince us we are better off with Mr 1 in 20 in charge is to take us as idiots. The bloke is simply not up to the job of at this level and the club needs to make a choice , Mr 1 in 20 or a few thousand members pulling the pin.

I'll be there week in and out, my seats are too good to give up...

What's more I'd rather have a team with the prospect of them finally coming good rather than no team and not getting a look in at a team again for 10-15 years... You only have to look at all of the major sports to see that leagues are in no way confident to introduce new sporting franchises at a risk to their profits and public image... As shit as out public image may be at present, while we have a team we can turn it around... If our memberships turn to shit and tinkler throws his dummy and FFA see a failing club with poor membership, we won't have a leg to stand on and we'll go the way of Gold Coast and North Queensland.

At least with a club and decent membership numbers, we are showing that there is a strong business case to keep a team in newcastle. What's more with strength in numbers we at least have a voice in trying to goad tinkler on to action (as futile as that may be)

The FFA know what a successful operating team in newcastle does with membership numbers/bums on seats

A lack of people signing up will only further show to the FFA that tinkler and co ain't doing a good enough job

Not overly interested in the Jets at the moment and they have a lot of work to do to bring back my enthusiasm. I still believe that no matter who the CEO is, until both Coach and Owner are replaced I'll just be keeping my seat warm till good times return. Can't see it happening under the current regime.

The rest of my family though, they may have been lost due to the crap we have endured this year.

If stinkler is still here and can let people run the club who know what they are doing and can keep paying the bills I might renew. If stubbins is coach then its a NO ! Not wasting my money to see a team coached with a 4% chance of winning a game. Hes got no idea and should walk away after this seasons effort if he wants to do the right thing by the club and its members

I didn't renew this season in protest to the active support rules. Then after seeing the team play out a bil all draw in Mudgee I knew it was gonna suck. I'll renew if Stubbins goes and we can see theclub actually move forward. 6 hour round trip is a lot of commitment when Ican go be a smurf or streetfighter with less shit for less.

It isn't even value for money if we are only competitive for 3 or 4 home games and the rest are ran like training sessions.

If Stubbins makes it to this offseason then I fear for the future of this club - with or without Murphy. Sack our worst ever coach and start again, fresh with someone who we can be proud to call our coach. Give him the whole offseason to sign his players, and let's actually move forward next season.

Everyone has their own opinion and own special circumstances and also what their stance is now might change by the time next season comes around. One of the club's strengths is that it has had over 10,000 members for I think 4 years straight now and it harps on about this in the media....hell even in todays Herald Mr 1 in 20 mentions the strong supporter base. I think it is important that all stakeholders concerned...from Murphy to the FFA start to realise that there is a lot of pissed off supporters out there in the Hunter and that if the current status quo remains next season, there is a very strong possiblity that the Jets membership could be down significantly. Whether the stakeholders take this on board is another matter, but at least it is out there for discussion.

Mate the club is now a poisoned chalice under Tinkler and Stubbins, we will only be able to get the leftovers from other clubs next season if they are still involved. We have 11k members this season and for many games we have only had 7-8k. Wherever you go, whether it's at work, socialising or watching local games you get the same old story from people who have followed the Jets for many years....they have had a gutful and won't be back next year for more of the same rubbish. The sense of disillusionment this season is much much stronger than it has been in previous seasons. There is just no trust or belief in an owner with Tinkler's track record and a "coach" who is totally out of his depth and who has basically placed his own ego and career ahead of what is best for the club.
As for "Bridgey", don't you find it odd how he was the only one from the coaching staff who was spared (Pascoe was the Youth coach so you can't count him) from the sackings.....funny that, must have had old Mr 1 in 21's trust hey don't you think:wink::

Ok Ken, when did the Fat Controller say he was moving the license? Nope no answer, though so...
Not going and not showing up would actually give him grounds to move the license.

As I was trying to point out before.
Attending games is something you do to support the CLUB so by not attending you are not supporting the CLUB.
If however you do attend games to support Tinkler, then you stop attending. Then yes I could see that would be a way to show that you do not support Tinkler.
But I highly doubt that you ever attended a game beforehand in support of Tinkler so your protest hardly seems logical.
Call me "tunnel visioned" I'll call me loyal.

Quite frankly I couldn't give a **** if you are plastic or not I just find it bizarre that you can not accept the reality of how plastic you are.

do you members enjoy being in and around the atmosphere of a 13-14k game or would you rather the 5k that will be on show in the coming weeks?
fyi I am a plastic fan and I f#@$ing hate the way the jets have been for the last 5years. I was a member through the gve era why subject myself to even more torture? I am a plastic fan because I can be..who bloody cares.

This isn't my team. This is tinklers clown army; don't tell me im plastic because I refuse to continue to support this clear attack on football in Newcastle.
I saw this shit coming before round 1 I didn't renew this season for many personal reasons but like hell I'm going to be talked down to buly a bunch of blokes who think they're something special all because they're happy to piss their money away. It's a 6 hour trip for me up and back plus the cost of food and drink, time away from my family and the recovery session the next day. **** that, this club isn't worth that kind of effort anymore. Six years of mediocrity.

I can go to the football with my old man or nswpl matches with less expense and better quality of football and coaching and still be home to put my kids to bed.

Also you're not members your ticket holders, you're only there to ensure base line income to them, you're a number not a person.

Please please please .... renew your memberships next year (or least get to the games)

The fan base (myself included) have worked bloody hard over the years (going back to the Breakers and beyond) to make sure we had a football team in the national league (NSL ... A-league).
We don't want to be the next GOld Coast or North Queensland. I support "my" football team. Not Tinks ... not Stubbins ... even the players come and go mid-season now.

If we want our club to be a good buy for someone, we need to show them that we support our football team, irrespective of which clowns are at the helm.

Like I said, I'll be back and I'll be proud.

Well said StorrmyPete.

Jeterpool

As I said before, I will be renewing next year, however it is not unreasonable that people decide they want to. People work hard for their money and to fork out however much they do for tickets, memberships and merchandise is their decision. I certainly won't be calling anyone plastic for choosing not to renew.

It comes to the point where we, the public, don't know how we can demonstrate we are dissatisfied with the performances and the club. Do we stay away? Do we overtly protest outside or inside the ground? Do we not renew memberships? Do we walk out at half time when we are 4-0 down? Do we chose to line the stands and shout abuse? Whatever the means, I think we need to demonstrate we are dissatisfied through various means and are not blindly following and accepting of what is happening (not saying that anyone on here is).

As StormyPete said, we need to keep in mind that people not showing up could be a demonstration of the region not wanting the team. However, I also think we have a number of runs on the board over the last 4 seasons which demonstrate a well run club will bring the crowds and there is a market in the region. The FFA have said they are committed to the region and we can only take their word that they are.

Throughout this debate, people are going to disagree. What I ask we all keep in mind - what is the common goal we are all trying to achieve - we want a club in this region which is well run and performs well. We all support the club in our own way, otherwise we wouldn't be on here, and that by debating this we are concerned about our future, direction and stability and that we all want change through the means we see as appropriate.

The big issue for me, and probably most older fans who have been through this many times before in other iterations of Newcastle Football, is that there is an ingrained fear that one day there won't be a team in Newcastle to support.

If fans want to desert the sinking ship, fine, thats the individuals call. I won't call them plastic for it and respect their rights to do it.

For me, I will be there to support the team, not the club, and to show the powers that be that we do support football in newcastle. If the crowds stop showing up completely we may just well be the next Gold Coast, Fury or NZ Knights when the FFA, club owners, or what ever power makes the decision, sees a poorly performing and run team with no supporter base and decide to pull the pin on us completely.

At that point, in my mind, anyone who ran for the hills really has to suck it up and not have a whine that we no longer have a team.

I hate what the Jets have become. I have very little connection to them. I don't enjoy going to games at the moment. That will change in the future one way or another. I'll be buying season tickets in the hope it changes for the better.

Call me blind, call me an idiot pissing my money into the wind, just don't desert the club and football in the region and complain when its gone.

I've been supporting the club since that first match against Adelaide, was there when we had less then 5,000 against Victory in season 2.....no wins after 6 matches. Was there also when we defeated SFC 2-0 in front of a capacity crowd at Hunter Stadium just a few months later. Next season I celebrated the glorious GF win at SFS over the Gypos. Was there supporting the team throughout the next season when we collected the wooden spoon as others started jumping off the bandwagon. Was there throughout our first ACL campaign watching games mid-week. Supported the club thoroughout the Culina era and the return of GVE, hoping we would return to our glory years. Something has changed this year though, especially after the mass sackings. All the crap that has gone on with the Tinkler backflip and ongoing issues, Stubbins (just have to say his name) and the indifference from the FFA has made me feel for the first time....like there is no emotional attachment to the club I have supported for 10 years. Recently when I have gone to games, I have started questioning myself...."Why?"
I am actually going to games and in a way wanting the team to lose.....to spite Stubbins and Tinkler.....that to me is not supporting and going to matches for the right reasons and my conscious tells me that this is wrong. If I do not go to games next season because these two pathetic excuses for men are still in change.....and if that makes me a "plastic supporter".....then so be it, but at least my conscious will be clear 100%.

I'm just going to have my 2c and stay outta this, but the reason I'm considering not attending again is not because I don't support the club, but in my opinion, the only way to send a clear, clear message to the ceo is through the bottom line. While they keep getting decent crowds, why would Murphy bother to sack the coach? They're still getting decent income.

If keeping Stubbins starts to cost the club significant membership, game day and merchandise revenue, then they will HAVE to get rid of him, otherwise the club will face bankruptcy and Tinkler will have to sell it anyway. I will always support the club, but at the moment, the best thing for the club is Stubbins to go ASAP. If that means I have to stay away, then I will.

Bloke is one lucky mother ****er missing out on GVEs spoon Jesse Pinto Brankos days GVe Mk2 and the rabble Stubbins has inflicted.

Bloke is still no plastic as coma hasn't allowed him to turn his back on the club through his choice. Not being conscious has prevented him from making a decision on being plastic at all.

Fantastic plague.

You should be the new media guy instead of that Gosford boy Benny.

newcastlefootball.net version of Godwin's law.

the longer a thread goes, the probability of somebody being called a "plastic fan" approaches 1.

I've actually met Ben a few times.
He's a pretty decent fella. Needs a good hosing off though to get the last bits of Gypo off him.

Also: I would last about 6 minutes as Jets media manager. Snark levels would be way way way too high for those dudes.

He's nowhere near as funny as me.
He generally has better hair.
But I can drink more Japanese beer than him.

Ta.
Even though I'm in a rebuilding phase this victory has given me a lot of confidence going into next season.

With a full off season I can hopefully get some more of my own jokes in there as opposed to the current repertoire which includes some jokes that were forced on me by upper management.

Anyway, as a smart arse I'm moving forward and hopefully my fans stick with me as they are the life and soul of my snark.

Cheers,
Plague.
