Will migrate some posts from old squad thread to this one, then close the old one..... its a little old.
Newcastle Jets can today detail a number of squad changes ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.
Defender Taylor Regan, utility Sam Gallagher, and goalkeeper John Solari have been informed that they will not be re-signed by the Club for next campaign.
26-year-old Regan has played his entire professional career with the Jets having formerly skippered the Club’s Foxtel National Youth League team. Regan played 68 times for Newcastle in the Hyundai A-League.
Gallagher, 23, joined the Jets ahead of the 2014/15 campaign from Vietnamese side Hanoi T&T. He made a total of 19 appearances for the Club throughout Hyundai A-League season ten.
21-year-old Solari linked with the Jets in 2013 from South Australian Premier League outfit White City. While he never appeared for the Club in the Hyundai A-League, Solari featured regularly for Newcastle’s Foxtel National Youth League side and provided dependable back up to Ben Kennedy and Mark Birighitti during his time in the Hunter.
Newcastle Jets can also disclose that Allan Welsh (16 appearances this season) and Travis Cooper (two appearances this season) have been informed that at this point they will not be re-signed by the Club. Jets management may seek to re-engage with Welsh, Cooper, or both, depending on various factors.
Utility Nick Cowburn (10 appearances this season) has been offered a youth deal. The Club is committed to retaining the Toronto junior.
“We’d love Nick Cowburn to stay at the club however with Scott Neville and Jacob Pepper contracted and able to fulfil the right back role, at this point we need to work within our salary cap and squad size parameters,” Newcastle Jets Head Coach Phil Stubbins explained. “We will remain in open dialogue with Nick.”
Max Burgess (five appearances this season) remains in discussions with the Club.
Ecuadorian attacker Edson Montaño remains under consideration by Club management. Montaño was on-loan to the Jets throughout the 2014/15 season from SC Barcelona in his homeland. Discussions with his loan club and local agent will transpire in due course.
Stubbins added: “Today the coaching staff had to deliver some tough decisions to some great people. We certainly wish each of the guys that are leaving the club the very best in their respective futures.”
“We are well advanced with our plans to recruit some top quality players to join home grown products Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, Jacob Pepper, and the returning Nigel Boogaard in our pursuit to bring success to the Newcastle Jets.”
The Club is in negotiations with Enver Alivodić to retain his services

This has always been a massive problem within this club. Instead of having a decent back up player for a specific position we decide to play someone who can do a job there and save our spots. How hard is it to have 2 left backs and 2 right backs in a 23 man squad??
This goes every position. Stubbins must just think that all forwards can play across the front, all defenders can play across the back and midfielders can play anywhere.. Sounds like U/14s football... wait, that's probably setting the bar too high for old Stubby & Chubby!
Clearly Neville's stance earlier on is the motive behind the quote " We will remain in open dialogue with Nick.”

Hey guys...
Ive been reading a few of your threads pretty much everyday for the past 12 months, so have decided to sign up so i can join in on occasions!
Just wanted to say that the decision to axe gallagher, welsh and solari is great. Cleans out some players that arent upto a-league standard imo. But with solari being released, is that an indication that stubbins is banking on a birighitti return, or is there another gk in the pipeline?? Anyones better than BK!

Doubt birra will come back. I'd like us to sign michael Turnbull. Signed with Victory as an injury replacement. 34 (not that old for a keeper). Alot of experience.

Turnbull would be a handy signing, but cant see stubbins dropping BK for him. He seems to see something in him that i definately cant.

Only offering Cowbie a youth deal? Does the club think they can hide him away in the Youth Team for another season when there is legitimite interest from other clubs that are a much better position than the Jets!

More for accounting reasons.
They can put him on one of them and he stays out of the cap and they have to have so many anyway and with Solaris going that frees one up now

Pretty disappointed with Regan leaving, he is a decent squad player. Id be equally disheartened if Cowburn got a full contract elsewhere because we dont want specialist fullbacks and would rather utilities play there (maybe that's why we conceded so many goals).
And i have no doubt we wont sign any quality and be forced to 're-engage' with Cooper and Welsh.

If I were Travis or Welsh, why would I want to come back here when they have been basically told "You are the back up plan". Unless no other club would give them a chance, I can see someone taking a punt on Travis though, there might be something there.

Just did a quick google search (Took me no more than 5 minutes). Just typed Germany U21 national team. Pick the 2006 squad (These players are 31 now). Just picked 3 forwards out of the squad......Patrick Helmes / Stefan Kiebling / Christian Eigler and I look at their career. It became clear to me they should be the kind of marquee we should target. Obviously you can look at Spain / Holland / Italy / France.......You can also look at their 2008 squad (33 now) or even 2004 squad (29 now).....and surely we should be able to find a Broitch or a Berisha....

To be honest - with the exception of Regan, I haven't got much to say about the axings.
If Phil brings in some further talent at the right price, he may just be on to something. Proof is in the pudding though, so time will tell and a stitch in time saves 9.

I thought very much the same, alot of those guys didn't offer much of anything and are all mostly easily replaceable. Only guy who I think we could regret is Travis Cooper but at the same time we've got Radivan who I'd like to see us use a bit more.
Only thing now is bringing in better players to replace them, cause if we just end up with a similar lot then there was really no point

Fair enough he might have a couple of more years in the bundesliga (As I said it was quite random search I did)......and look at Janko, he was a starting striker at Trabzonspor, Twente and Red bull S..........Kiessling played for Germany 6 times, Janko 45 times for Austria (Still does and I think captain) and same age......

The thing with Travis Cooper is he looked ok in the 2 short cameo's he had at the back end of the season.
But if it took him 8-9 weeks to crack a bench spot in this side tells me he either trained like rubbish or Stubbins doesn't rate him.

Right now, with the way the club has treated players (sackings, late payment, unpaid super) on top of the ATO taking the FFA TV money, and Tinkler being the owner, our squad next year will be mostly made up of players from the various State Leagues desperate to get into the aleague.
We will just be moving forward along the downward spiral.

I'm a bit put off by strikers as marquees. I'd prefer the marquee in a creative role because it's something we have been lacking since Nick Carle and there has been more success with visa players in that role over the years. I'm thinking of Fred, Flores, Hernandez, Broich and Ono.
There's very little connexion with the team after yesterday's goings on.

I've had a look through the history books and looked at the annual squad turnover between each season. This only takes into account players who have played a game for us, so the likes of Tando Velaphi, John Solari, Ben McNamara, Jason Culina aren't included. Once they played a game, they were counted in the squad. The players released or leaving the club at the end of each season (when compared to who started) is as follows
S1 = 12 players
S2 = 9 players
S3 = 12 player
S4 = 13 players
S5 = 11 players
S6 = 10 players
S7 = 10 players
S8 = 8 players
S9 = 13 player
S10 = 22 players * (this includes players who are currently re-negotiating so number may reduce).
If we look at the two seasons where the fewest changes occurred, we all know what happened in Season 3, while just missing out on the finals in Season 9 it was our highest ever season points tally.
By my count we may have 15 spots to fill on the roster. And while I agree with many that a cleanout was needed after years of mediocrity (disregarding the appalling manner in which some of these "partings" have occurred) it's perhaps too much too soon. Where are we going to locate 15 players who can form a team and be of a standard which can compete? We're a hard sell at the moment to any player, and if some of the media reports are correct about reneging on promises we're going to be even less attractive.
I'm fearing for us next season because after what we all thought was our last major change in Season 8 with the likes of Taggart, Brillante, Cooper coming on board, it takes at least a season for the squad to gel.

Very interesting Jeterpool, that would have taken a bit of time to compile, well done for your efforts.
Overall it's been fairly constant, ranging between 8 and 13 but this season is definitely unprecedented not only for our club, but the A League as a whole and probably in Aussie sport in any code!

What BS excuse they running this time for their misbehaviour???

They talked a lot about it.
They made no excuses, but put a lot of the blame on the actions of the police.
I did though get a chuckle when they said "the supposed RBB members" about the dudes who were chanting "RBB ole ole ole, RBB ole, RBB ole ole" in the cops face in that video outside the stadium :rof: :oops:
Personally, I reckon both sides were in the wrong.

Takahagi seemed better for them when he sat a bit deeper rather than behind the striker.

Totally disagree with the Police are in the wrong there.
They get a couple of hundred halfwits who they have told to move on advance on two of them in an aggressive intimidatory manner then the halfwits will get some response from the Police.
Not exactly rocket science.
You wish to piss the police off like that then don't moan about the consequences.
The whole issue is a problem caused by Wankers fans anyway tolerating the halfwits amongst them with the flares and detonators
I think the police were wrong in:
- not following protocol laid out before the season by the club, league, police, etc about how they would wait until half/full time to apprehend/charge/ban the people confirmed by CCTV, and barged into the bay.
- the 180degree spray they did in the bay, which had innocent people (inc women and children) in there.
- the carry-on by the policeman in the outside-of-stadium video AFTER he sprayed the pack of dudes, with the pretend crying, waving, etc.
- the police report saying no one had been put into hospital because of the incidents, which was a blatant lie.
I think the RBB were in the wrong for a list that is probably twice that length, don't get me wrong, but I thought I'd just put it out there that both sides of the story dealt with this extremely poorly.

He played the last 5 or so of his games next to a holding mid, they used kalmar, bridge and haliti as no10.
Not saying he isn't a good no10 at all, just that he generally played as a deep playmaker type for most of his time at wankerers

NMH
Brennan trained with the Jets a fortnight ago, having been identified by coach Phil Stubbins at the end of last state league season.
Playing for South Hobart, Brennan scored 25 goals in the Tasmania national premier league to finish as the competition’s second highest goal-getter, and won the league’s best and fairest award.
“He is a player that we’ve identified could turn into a very good player in the A-League,’’ Stubbins said in a statement.
2nd highest goal-getter (wot an ugly term...).
Really? So why didn't we get the phucker with the most then? lol

One of the questions on the Jets Members survey was "what do you expect from the club"
What are people's expectations on performance next year?
- A-League (Grand final winners/premiers/Semis/Top 6/better than 10th)
FFA Cup (Winners/Semis/Quarter finals/Round 16/Round 32)
For me, I expect us to make Quarter Finals of FFA cup and Reach the Top 6 next year.

Muppet Tinkler and co have treated us like shit due to their petty vendettas and their Moving Forward Bullshit
I am setting my expectations where they need to be to justify the level of shit we have endured and then the needless butthurt inflicted.
I expect us to win the HAL.
If they can achieve that then and ONLY then the hurt is worth while.

I honestly think we will struggle again next year but i will accept it if they once and for all sort out all the bullshit within the club.
-Tinks either goes away or starts running us like a decent HAL club. (pay on time, proper coaching and training, improved youth facilities/pathways)
-Stubbins gets his squad how he wants and builds a team that goes out every week and busts their asses off trying to win the game. I think finals football should be a minimum requirement to keep his job.
-No more massive turn over of players. Maybe 5-8 movements at the end of the season and 1-2 players brought in mid season if we have injuries.
Give me that next year and i'll probably still find something to whinge about... if i'm being honest.

It's a survey, just a token members "feedback" gesture - you would be lucky to get a 10% response rate and much of the feedback, especially overly negative will be ignored.
You could put "I would like to buy Messi for the Jets with my own money" and there would be no response.

I've dealt with the membership team as part of the sub-committee and I don't get the impression they would ignore constructive feedback or negative feedback. They aren't oblivious to the what's gone on. The question is whether they are able to make changes and influence based on this feedback higher up the Jets organisational structure.

loyalty has no place in it. your dollars don't support the players. the club loses money hand over fist with wvery game they host. you're "contributions" of what, $10-20 per game, mean nothing.

S1 = 12 players
S2 = 9 players
S3 = 12 player
S4 = 13 players
S5 = 11 players
S6 = 10 players
S7 = 10 players
S8 = 8 players
S9 = 13 player
Dear Herald. What topic would you like me to bring up next week so you can write about it?

do an article on crowds and how crowd takings have declined since Stubbins came on board
continue the current trends into next season for both season ticket holders and game day crowds, and show that by the end of next season, with Stubbins still in place, crowds will not only be lower than the number of season ticket holders, they will will drop below zero
e.g. last season we had 10,003 members
crowds went from 11,884 in the first game against Victory to 4,162 in the second to last game against Perth
that means 5,841 with tickets didn't bother to turn up
if, as seems likely from talk about the town and straw polls on this website, we get fewer than 5,000 season ticket holders next season - we may well get a crowd for the next game of –841
I'm sure you can use your fancy statistical analysis to firm up these numbers but you can't ignore these trends

Have heard he is being offered a Yoof contract i.e. The same one the rest of our yoof team is on ie $100 a week and match payments for HAL appearances
If true a ****ing disgrace from these clowns
Yes it's a disgrace.....except that Nick is too old for a full time NYL contract. Those contracts are 2 years in length and the recipient needs to be no older than 20 in the second year.
If as reported he has a letter of intent for a standard HAL contract from next year then he is getting the best deal he can get bar an immediate full time contract.

I was told to today Pavicevic is on a full contract.
We have 2 spot available for NYL deals
Whether Cowburn is too old is irrelevant. 10 appearances and 12 vacant squad spots says he should get a deal. Not be expected to live on peanuts and be used by the club as they see fit.
What's to say next year the blokes making him these promises are still here to keep their end of the bargain or are even prepared to keep their promise being they can't be trusted??
Basically they are treating him like a chump and giving him no reward for his efforts.

Yep that's the one. Going into his 2nd year next season. There is no obligation by the club to confirm this type of contract, often they say they have just signed a full time contract, but Lundy confirmed this himself and so did the Jets when he signed on. The Herald has published stories describing Lundy on an apprentice contract.
Pavecevic will be on one too given the 2 year deal for a youth player. It means nothing that they permanently train with the HAL squad, it's just another type of contract but one that garuantees min HAL wage (50k or there abouts this year).

I laugh at this there is so many kids out here chasing there dream $50k at 19 is huge when the behind the scenes work is put in which not many bloggers appreciate. It is easy too opt out and go to NPL to earn a few extra dollars short term. 90% of theses kids will not proceed but will be lead to believe there is hope only to see the disgrace of a club that continue to promote or give opportunity to outsiders.

So you would prefer the club pay a kid $100 a week with the sacrifices he has to make with social life and employment opportunities and expect him to continue playing in the Yoofs and then they get him to fill in with the HAL when they see fit??
Lets remember the kid has played 10 times this season so they rate him enough to do a job but then on the other hand can't be arsed giving him the security of a deal.
Sure that will make the kid feel right at home when he goes to training busting his arse for peanuts and his teammates are getting paid 10 to 20 times more than him for the same effort and have some security for their lives.
Maybe we should put all our players on one of these Youth contracts then and open up a cotton farm FFS

50k is the minimum money for the blokes at the bottom end of a HAL squad.
The blokes higher up get more and then your good players do pretty well.
Add in the opportunity to travel overseas like Taggz and Beard and earn some serious coin if you do well.
Sure there are a lot of failures but those that do succeed can live quite comfortably. Those who do make a career out of being a HAL player ain't exactly eating 3 for $1 home brand noodles their career.
Sure there are plenty of jobs in the world paying more than 50k but to say these blokes are skint is wrong.

$50k a year is a pretty good deal for doing something you enjoy like playing football.
There is also no law saying former players can't get another career / job when their playing days are over either.
Very few people get to retire at 30 years of age regardless of their profession - I don't see why footballers should be any different.
Certain trades are short term as well given fatigue and injuries - but you don't see brickies and so on whining like most pro athletes about the short length of their careers.

So what I have been told they get $200pw during NYL (ffa regulated across the board) and $100pw during NPL but the outsiders get extra not sure how much I think $150 maybe $200 during NPL to offset living away from home. If they sit on the bench or play in ALeague they get an extra match payment of $550 or there about not sure of exact payment.

NEWCASTLE have stepped up their pursuit of Sydney striker Bernie Ibini, as the Sky Blues work through their efforts to squeeze a host of stars into the salary cap.
Ibini’s loan spell with Sydney from Chinese club Shanghai Dongya finishes at the end of the season and the Jets have made him one of their priority targets as coach Phil Stubbins continues a wholesale overhaul of his squad.
Ibini scores stunner0:36
Though Ibini has a longstanding relationship with Sydney coach Graham Arnold, there remains uncertainty over what deal the Sky Blues can offer in the face of competing pay demands from the likes of Milos Dimitrijevic, Mickael Tavares and Jacques Faty.
It’s also unclear whether a loan fee would be payable for Ibini, who signed a three-year deal with Shanghai in June 2013 but was loaned back to the Mariners in January 2014, and then to Sydney later last year. Under new A-League rules, most loan fees are included in the salary cap, but both Sydney and the Jets are hopeful Shanghai will agree to release Ibini from the last year of his contract.

Though pay talks are ongoing with several players, Sydney’s focus this week is their semi-final with Adelaide on Saturday night, a place in the grand final awaiting the winner.
Foxsports article.
But it’s believed the Jets are ready to make Ibini a substantial offer as Stubbins looks to establish a first-choice forward line for next season.
Meanwhile Perth have emerged as a potential destination for defender Zac Anderson, who left the Mariners last week. Though a move up the F3 to the Jets remains a possibility, Stubbins already has Daniel Mullen and Nigel Boogaard signed for next year, while Sydney FC’s priority is to secure Jacques Faty for next season at the completion of his injury replacement contract.

Ibini would be the best Aust Marquee in the HAL if we signed him. A current Socceroo in his prime who isn't looking to play OS due to his family issues. Sign a decent central striker to play as a foil and it's a win win combination.
On the Cowburn situation it's an interesting gamble the Jets are taking. If no other club offers Nick a HAL deal then the Jets offer of a guaranteed deal the following season will be his best offer. And we get a handy backup outside the top 23.
Although Nick will be able to sign for any club during the NYL season. NYL contracts do not lock the player down from a pro deal.

Both would be expensive geriatric failures and just the type of marquee we usually sign.
Of the younger Socceroos, Jimmy Holland or Tagz would be better but I highly doubt either would consider returning to the HAL. Maybe Bozanic might consider a return.

You want your marquee to bring a lot to the team, and hopefully sell some shirts while they're at it. Holman and Bresciano would do both, to an extent. Bresciano would sell more shirts. Let's not forget only a couple of months ago Bresciano was still playing for the national team. He'd be amazing if he came back.
None of the guys you've mentioned would be worthy of marquee wages. If they did choose to come back to the HAL, no one would be sane in paying them over 300k and all of them should be under the cap.
It is commonly known that Ibini can't stand the lifestyle in China, and has done just about everything he can to be back in Australia since he came to that realisation. And I fully expect the smart clubs to lowball offers to him, because they know if he keeps saying no then eventually he will have exhausted all his options at home. If anyone pays him marquee wages, they're idiots. Particularly when you take into account he's pretty inconsistent, and is more of an athlete than a footballer.

Well i respect your opinion but can't disagree anymore. I couldn't give a toss about selling shirts and doubt very much the Jets make anything substantial from the sales. This club has a history of signing deadbeat marquees looking for a retirement cheque. For once I would like to see them sign a marquee player on the up rather than crocked and a foot in retirement. No one said they should be paid 300k although I would suggest Jimmy could command it. But all would be your top paid Aust player which means all qualify for marquee.
Your conments about what is "commonly known" about Ibini's return to the HAL are rather puzzling considering he returned because his father was diagnosed with a serious/terminal illness which is why Shanghai agreed to the loan back to Sydney. And why there are only 4 clubs who can compete for his signature.

I don't think he'd satisfy the criteria.
Given that he has recently had a call up to the national team, I think he would qualify if a club pushed it enough. Also if we take the eg of the FFA allowing Thwaite to be considered an Australian Marquee for Perth, I can't see them not allowing Ibini to be one also.
Borat - if we're paying any of those guys 300k or less, there's no point in "wasting" our marquee spot on them, and we should be signing a legitimate marquee. Clubs all over the league pay 200-300k for many squad players. Most visa players are on 200-300k. We should be able to sign one or two of the 300k guys AND get an actual marquee.
FWIW Ibini's story is he despised China basically the moment he was moved in there. He was desperate to get his contract torn up, or a loan move, but his club said no. Until his father got sick, and they allowed it. He has never had any interest in moving back to China - regardless of family situation. He hates it there, and every agent knows it.
You guys can fap off over big name Aussie marquees.
Have it on good authority a player agent was asked by Jets to sound out a big name Aussie player he has on his books

According to how it was done last year the Top 4 get a bye from playing HAL sides first up and the bottom 6 HAL sides have to play one another first. All to do with the way it is rigged so one NPL side makes the semis etc.

According to how it was done last year the Top 4 get a bye from playing HAL sides first up and the bottom 6 HAL sides have to play one another first. All to do with the way it is rigged so one NPL side makes the semis etc.
That's how we got Perth Adelaide got Nix and Smurfs got Heart as these were the bottom 6 HAL sides from the season before when Roar beat WSW in the GF
So unless the FFA have changed it we will be in a pot of 6 which will be Roar Heart Glory Wankers Gypos and us
Thankyou.

No we ****ing don't its the last team we need
Lose and the embarrassment of losing to those ****s
Win and it gives credence to Muppets Moving Backwards philosophy regardless of whether it is warranted or not.
No win situation for us

But I am at the stage I want to keep losing just to prove those ****s are wrong and I am right
No point dropping games to those Gypsy ****s just to spite me

Saba could be a good signing if he pulls his head in...

Saturday and sunday the 20/21 June is the round of 32
This is according to the NPL draw which has that weekend off for the games. Just looked it up, that must be northerns qualifying games.
Round of 32 is late July. My apologies.
Gosford away in July!
I can't see him rocking up and being a yes man.
Me either. But stubbins will only be there for the first 7 rounds anyway
And that would leave only one visa spot left if montano's staying!
So stubbins is really just on a holiday while he's making the rest of the squad train!
Does an OS MQ count in the 5 visa spots? Or are they completely exempt?
