Noticed this one was missing since the foz overhaul..

I've been "acquiring" a heap of late 90's/early noughties British comedies of late..
The League Of Gentlemen, Brasseye, Big Train, The Green Wing, Psychoville..

I've only really had the time to get stuck in to Big Train and The League of Gentlemen so far, both are absolutely brilliant.. hahaha.. Soooo funny..

I've also been cranking the new-ish Doctor Who series.. Is it just me, or is Billie Piper a bit of alright for a curvy chav?

I haven't watched much on TV in a long, long time... pretty much the stuff I do watch regularly is by Denton or Micallef.

Should I watch Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad?

Thats ALL that my roommate watches.. I haven't seen either of them before though.. The amount that they are hyped up combined with the insane amount that he watches (and hides from the world) is enough to keep me away from it for now..

I watch both, but prefer Breaking Bad. Storylines are much more intriguing to me, but that's just a personal opinion. Both quality shows.

Anyway...Green Wing = masterful. Perfect example of a show choosing to go out at the height of its popularity rather than die a slow death.

Breaking bad is awesome and I've only heard good things about thrones and broadwalk empires.

I'm still digging the Walkig Dead, Community (even though Sony are going to destroy it next season) 30 Rock, Episodes, American Horror Story and I still dabble in Falling Sky's (i've not seen any of season 2 yet) and Fringe.

i'm also getting into Once upon a time and still digging Suppernatural even though they've got stuck on the whole Christianity thing.

Sony have removed Dan Hammond as show runner and almost all of the writters have left prior to or since been removed by Sony and the people who created and write Happy endings are taking over the show.
Also all contracts are up at the end of the shortened 4th season (14 eps only) and will no doubt be cancelled from then..

Cannot recommend Breaking Bad enough. You HAVE to watch it from the start and not get frustrated if the pace slows down every now and then. It all ties in so well and the way you change opinions on the characters is really cool.
Season 5 (final season) starts in the U.S. this week (Showcase here at the end of the month) but it's supposed to be dragged out across about 14 months for about 18 episodes. Just hope it doesn't ruin it.
Anyway that's the only non sport TV I'm watching at the moment.

The next one that's been recommended to me has been The Wire. Anyone got an opinion on it?

For a 'day in the life of an average family' show, which is what it basically is, it's piss funny. And a lot scary!

Get into it, it's fantastic. Similar to BB in that it's a bit slow to start but once you're into it it'll keep you going back for more (I 'acquired' the first couple of eps and didn't watch them for a while, but once I did I went on a 'The Wire' watching spree, knocking over 3 or 4 eps a night till I'd finished it). Gritty police drama, corruption, poverty, drugs, politics and some quality twists and turns.

The Wire is a great show. Fully deserves the 9.5 rating on imdb.

I've watched all of community and rate it highly shame about the change of writers and ect as mentioned above. Seen all of breaking bad as well which can be frustrating at times due to the slow pace but well worth sticking out. Currently onto the last season of mad men and its good, has certain episodes based on america's famous historical events from the 1960's which are pretty well done. There was even a mention of england winning the world cup in 1966.

I'll probably watch game of thrones next or sopranos.

I've had The Wire sitting there for a while but haven't had the time to watch it. Looking forward to the return of Breaking Bad to see what storyline they come up with after last seasons finale. Dude.. I LOVE Gold Rush Alaska.. hahaha.. The two seasons that are out are so damn addictive. Not to mention old Jack Hoffman looking like "old mate" from the Where's The Gold pokie machine..
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeha!!!
If you like that, check out Bering Sea Gold.. Same sort of thing, gold mining in Alaska, except its using home-made barges to dredge and dive underwater.. (Bit more drama too, idiotic people in it, attempted love story, stabbed in bar fight, crankiest ship captain ever.. Great viewing.. haha)

Allow me to add Full Metal Jousting to my list. insane show.

I've never watched it, but have had all intentions to download it. Looked pretty damn brilliant from the ads for it.

Life's Too Short is unreal. Warwick Davis is basically another "David Brent" character though. Love the big name cameos, especially Liam Neeson playing himself and talking about wanting to do standup and talking about having AIDS.. The bloopers in this clip are tops too..

Returning: The Walking Dead
By David Knox on July 16, 2012 / Filed Under Pay TV, Top Stories 3
FX will fast-track Season 3 of The Walking Dead to Australian screens, less than 33 hours after the US.

The third season will consist of 16 episodes with 8 episodes to air from 8:30pm Tuesday October 16th with another 8 to air in February. It debuts in the US on Sunday, October 14th.

The cult zombie series will have an international rollout to 122 countries including UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey, the Baltic, all Latin America, all Middle East, Japan, Singapore, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Season two of The Walking Dead marked the best performance for a US cable show in our international markets. It delivered record-breaking ratings in both the US and internationally”, said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming at FOX International Channels.

“We are committed to ensuring the best viewing experience for these clearly committed fans. We think the global launch strategy is a key part of this series’ international success, and are excited to be working so closely with our partners at AMC on blowing it out of the park again this year.”

A new trailer has also been released at fxtv.com.au/shows/the-walking-dead/sneak-peek.

I just watched the first season of it at the Mrs' place..
It was a crack up.. Took me an episode or two to get used to the format and how it was all put together, but quite clever and well done!

I watched revolution, it's kinda okay. i'll need to see where it goes in eps 2-3 before deciding whether it's good ro not. I do question why there is a lack of guns though in a country that prides itself on the rights to bare arms.

Anyway, I thought I would give it a go and downloaded a random season (think it is 13, on the Cook Islands) and was extremely surprised to find the "theme" of the season was to start everyone off in four groups segregated by race..
Caucasian, asian, african-american and hispanic.. Under the guise of a "social experiment"..

I figured it would rate well though with the general audience, but apparently not. Another of those shows executives pour loads of money into on a whim, only to be canned soon after. Never got into it. There are lots of shows that I have never got in to or been a late adopter. Breaking Bad is one of them.

Think of me as a TV noob and recommend me stuff. I already have Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and The Wire on the list of must watch... anything else from the last 20 years?

Season 4 has been shelved for the forseable future. It was supposed to begin on Friday but NBC have decided to halt it indefinently and it will most likely move to Wednesdays and not air until February.

With the removal of Dan Hamon as the show runner there is a lot of expectation on the new show runners to live up to the expectation of a limited US audience. It is likely that they've decided to remove it from the kill zone (friday night 8pm) and hold off until a window opens in another timeslot later to give it a better chance at survival.
NBC have spent a lot to try and make it a palitable show and many of their new shows are failing that would've been slated as replacing it but now poor viewing of new shows has given it a second chance maybe.

The Walking Dead to me is one of those horrible hype monsters.
Watched Season 1 which I found average, it was alright, ended terribly.

Watched a bit of S2 but couldn't finish it. Acting seemed horrible, plot was not great, no idea what the fuss was about.

A zombie series COULD be excellent, but The Walking Dead doesn't exactly bleed quality (pun intended).

Ep two was greater than ep one, if that is at all possible! Definently one of the best shows on television!

For those questioning its awesomeness, stop thinking of it as a Zombie show and start thinking of it as a survivalist show. The themes and storylines are about human strugle not about killing Zombies. it is about the human condition and why we stive to survive in a post apocolyptic world. The real threat is humanity not the Zombies. a Zombie is liek a wild animal stalking pray, easily dispatched. Humans however are shifty coniving evil doers, waiting for you to turn your back to kill you and steal your suplies and rape your women.

Yeah the Comic is just the guide, as the whole CDC thing doesn't happen and a lot of characters have been edited out and Daryl and Merl arn't their either. but still plenty of material.

Personally I hope they get to issue 100 as a key character meets the ultimate end. it's pretty gruesome!

Season 3 will cover issues 12-25 I think. the prison, the birth, the Govonor, the siege and the Exodus.

I'm a huge fan of the show Psych and Elementary is just a similar version without the Jokes and 80'd pop culture references. i watched the first 4 eps and just got bored with the he's an eccentric child of wealth, with a drug habit, she's a former doctor doing pennants for an accident at work he'll do something to piss her off that may put his freedom at risk turns out it was for the best both learnt a thing or two about life, each other and themselves.

Dr house was at least funny.

Ha ha , year I'm re reading the entire saga of the Rift war saga by raymond E Feist which he has just finished the final novel to, which i'm just 9 of 27 books into and the final 4 books of the Dark tower (which I hope Netflix agree to turn into a TV show/Movie series) plus I've got the first Jack Reacher novel plus a few biographys then the total 7 books of GoT tacked onto the end for good measure.

Talking Netflix, I'm now into ep 7 of Arrested Development, it has been great, I love how they're now begining to overlap all the story lines and bringing it all together. I also love the Method one Clinic and the actors juice!

Either way, the 2nd Mass are back on the road again! And what is the go with Alexis!? Probably going to be the focus of next season. Will she be the saviour or will she be another enemy?? The treatment of Karen was a bit harsh too. That's going to cause some issues with Hal and Maggie (blanked out to prevent spoilers)

It takes a while to really kick in and the funny part is that your opinion of pretty much all the main characters will change as the show goes on. That's actually something that impressed me. The notion of good/bad/right and wrong definitely blurs the further you go.

Really, I just finished season 1 and feel the exact opposite. Characters are engaging and all have more depth to them then most tv shows give, The show creates engaging episodes that make you want to watch just one more at 2 am in the morning and although season1 is only 7 eps long, it feels much longer.

Yeah it is brilliant!!
I was sceptical about the yank version (with Frodo as the main, but still the same bloke playing Wilfred), but it actually wasn't too bad!!

Yeah I'm going to jump on the US one and check it out, was happy to see the same bloke played Wilfred.

Frodo is a little bitch so I could totally see Wilfred manipulating the shit out of him.

Anyone else watching True Detective?

Interesting teleprogramme, all the rage amongst your snobby critic-types right now. Personally not entirely sure what to make of it yet, but I'd recommend watching if only for a certain scene in episode 2 (:brr: ).

Yep, it's been good so far. I'm assuming everything comes together toward the end. Great performances from Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey

It's a slow-burn. Very smart and the jokes aren't "in your face" so to speak. This is why the American General public didn't watch it and hence it was cancelled 3 seasons in.

One of the great pieces of modern television especially from USA in my opinion. But it's not for everyone

This, loved seasons 1-3, 4 not so much but still some hilarious episodes.

Really needs to be watched more than once to get all of the running jokes

agreed on all counts. i have heard that if/when they make another season it'll be back to the style of seasons 1-3 (season 4 obviously being pretty different in terms of how the story was told)

also what did people think of season 3 of sherlock?

without wanting to give away too much, thought episode 1 was pretty crap (for sherlock, although still entertaining), episode 2 was more of a classic sherlock episode (in a good way) and episode 3 was kind of ok.

overall, it was going to be hard to live up to the first 2 seasons and I don' think they did, although it hasn't jumped the shark either. yet.

I've only seen s4 in its entirety and was really put off by the way the story was told. Will have to check out 1-3.

expect mass piracy when s4 of GoT comes out. Foxtel has exclusive rights and not even netflix or itunes can start selling the eps until the entire season has finished.

I have the second highest tier of Foxtel and I cant even get access to showcase. "other methods" for me then

"Other methods" are often the only way we (australians) can actually see shows when they're released anyway.

That "single shot" sequence was a brilliant bit of TV, IMHO

EDIT: Posted video in case people want to easily watch it. SPOILER ALERT - don't watch if you intend on viewing the series and haven't yet. Although I don't think it gives too much away.

HIMYM Finale last night. My thoughts...WARNING SPOILERS - in white text

So after watching this series for the last 7 years (I came in about season 3 and caught up via DVD), the finale was aired overnight.

I am in two minds what to think. Initially I was a bit annoyed, maybe disappointed in how it ended. However, the longer I think about it, it’s starting to sit ok with me. It gives reason to why he is telling the kids the story and segues into his new relationship with Robin. It was a different ending and isn’t the happily ever after that most shows finish with, in a way, but also gave the happily ever after in another.

In saying that, I was disappointed the mother and her interactions with the group weren’t expanded. Also I felt they focussed on one year too many during the “fill in” section which perhaps diluted the other years. Spending only a few seconds on the mother getting sick/dying was disappointing too. After almost cruising along for the last 2 seasons I didn’t mind the last season. It had some nice touches and wrapped pretty much everything in.

The divorce didn't surprise me. I also came to the conclusion that Lily needed that group and was the one who really kept it together. Barney's behaviour demonstrated he never really matured or was scared to mature but the kid part was nice.

For those who like it, there were some good tear jerkers. Mrs Jeterpool was having a little sniffle – though that may be the pregnancy. I’ll need to watch it again. Perhaps I’ll start from season 1 and watch it all over.

Anyway, it’s over now and I really did enjoy the journey.

Thoughts on Arrow?
Also without the spoiler thoughts on the spin off series to commence soon?

Its really starting to get good now can't wait for the spin off to start, I think the spin off will be far more successful due to his popularity over Green Arrow.

Also watching it. Big movie fan so it was a no brainier to get into this too. Watching it without streaming from the us so no spoilers please.

Also believe the writers and director of the movie got death threats from fans feeling duped when it came out the movie was not a true story.

Absolutely great film redone in a really great way.

Billy bob, particularly the scene where he booked into the motel laugh out loud funny.
Big Martin freeman fan too. Guy is the bloke you choose if you just want the most average looking person to play an average looking person.

I'm loving Fargo too, if you're into the whole 'old movie turned into TV series' trend there is a new series based on 'From Dusk till Dawn' at the moment. I've only seen a small bit of it but looks pretty interesting. Supposedly the first season goes over the movie plot until they escape the Bar but then the series moves into Mexico and explains heaps more.
