Think fitness let us down second half could come back win for Terrace.

Terrace happy to sit back and counter couple quick guys. Barnsley played most of possession still hard to crack.

And the winner of the day was the referees they were horrible (and that's an under statement)

3 wins from 5. One loss to the leaders and a bad day today. Considering how they faired last year, I would have thought it has been a good start by Bero, rather then a question of "what is going on".

Mate we will take any win at this stage, good to finally get off the mark. Created plenty of chances Just couldn't finish many. Literally the story of all three grades.

All games were a bit scrappy, although Panda was heard spruiking how his 3rd grade team played the best football on the day!!

I'm thinking the same.. No game been won hands down apart from Warners Bay but keep finding that little edge to win.. This weekends game will be a big test..

Every team can easily win on the day in this comp. Just comes down to who takes the chances they get.

Other blokes that seem to know more about our club than we do ourselves are doing unbelievable job of keeping you all informed. When we don't get the chocolates though they'll be right and we will be relegation candidates again.

The truth is we know we've been lucky at times, but if people knew the entire picture they'd be aware it hasn't all been rosey, highlighted by our most important player currently on crutches amongst other crap we just don't feel a need to broadcast.

Big game Saturday v Cooks Hill but last time I checked was worth the same amount of points as Charlestown the week before and Nelson Bay the week after and Kotara the week after that.......

From what I've seen, Jesmond have scored 4 goals off the shins, and 3 from miss-kicks so I reckon they've been lucky. Throw in the 2 goals from definite offside and 1 game they paid the ref overs. They still won't make the top 4.

Terrace V Bero.
3-3
Got down to see the game yesterday. Terrace were up 3 nil inside 20 mins and looking like taking the game away for a white wash. Terrace created a lot of chances in the first half using the quick men up front. Bero got back into the game with a goal from a corner and a well taken free kick with last kick of the first half.
Second half was back and forth with both teams creating a few chances. Bero got a 3rd goal from a terrace goal kick picking out a Bero player and him putting it away from distance. Terrace ending up with 10 men for last 10 mins made it interesting with Bero looking to grab a winner. Even points in the end. Credit to Bero for a good fight back. I'm sure the Terrace boys will be kicking themselves not to have taken the 3 points from this game.

Coach Panda has been reminding all at Stockton that he is the first coach in 3 years to beat Kotara 3rds at Nesbitt. Tbh they should have won about 16-3, but ironically the number 16 for Kotara missed about 10 sitters and a penalty saved, I lost count how many one on ones he hit straight at our keeper. Been meaning to give a special mention to Kotara first grade keeper on the weekend. Watching on I saw one of our strikers go down with cramp whilst Kotara had us on the ropes. Fair enough Kotara didn't kick it out at this stage but our other striker came over to help him out. Leaving Kotara defenders to push on and put even more attacking pressure on. At this point the Kotara keeper came out 20/30 yards to lend a hand so that one of our strikers could get back and help. Just something small that didn't go unnoticed by myself and I felt the need to mention.
Kudos big man

Personally I enjoy what he does but I know he loves his cooks hill teams but to predict 5-1 against the terrace seems little far fetched. Terrace may have injuries but I'm sure they have depth to fill the void. Their Ressies team did win the GF last year in ZL2 and have some handy players to step up.

Didn't know about it. Do you have a link to it

On another note Cooks Hill would like to extend an invitation to the Terrace boys to join us upstairs in the NEST post game for a few frothies and chat about the big issues ie. The standard of refereeing, the election and where to find the best flat white on Darby St.......

To explain the Cooks Hill 5-1 tip. I saw Terrace had a few out. Wasn't aware that their reserves are solid as I don't pay too much attention to ressies and stuff with all the New-FM coverage I do. We'll have to see how it goes. Really like the Terrace guys and took my AA team up there in pre-season to play their 3rd grade which was fun. I'm not always biased towards Cooks Hill, a look at my New-FM 1st grade tips for this week will prove that.

Thanks for the kind words as well. Have changed my schedule this year with what was once NPL coverage time being devoted now to the Zone Leagues. I feel it's more suitable considering NPL has NBN, BarTV and the likes covering it. Might head into the catch-up Cooks Hill v Barnsley game on Tuesday night. ZL2 at Maryland the other night was quite entertaining and a break from the New-FM comp.

Nelson Bay were very competitive in the first half yesterday. Up 1-0 early and had chances to add a second. We equalised before
HT. After HT we got on a bit of a roll and 1-1 became 4-1 very quickly. Really hope the Bay can keep this bunch of young fellas together for a few years as they have a lot of potential. Could be a very strong side with a couple of older heads sprinkled across the park.

Barnsley reminded me of the jets yesterday... they must have racked up 4 to 5 times more passes than Charlestown but there is only 1 stat that wins games. Charlestown took their chances early, sat on their lead and did the job. I'm sure that wasn't a tactic but it was the way the game panned out.
Their keeper was outstanding, he made two (that i can think of now) top class saves in the second half.
Barnsley are a bloody good team but have no goal scorers! If they had a good striker they would be much closer to the top in my opinion.

Terrace V WBay

A cold and windy day with the advantage going to the team running with the wind. Terrace had it first half and created plenty of chances. Little Quick bloke up front taking a good chance slotting a one on one and then a simple tap in. Going into half time 2 up.
Second half wind didn't change and advantage was with WBay going on the attack. They got one back and kept pushing with Terrace scrambling well in defence. Terrace had a couple of chances on the counter but ball wouldn't go over the line. WBay couldn't find the equaliser and Terrace came away with the win.
Not a bad display in the conditions.

Not sure on availabilities but the best 2 Barnsley players on the park v Cooks Hill were the strikers. Bloke scored a bomb early and their pace kept us on their toes all game. Thought the service they got was average at best. Might just have been that game but didn't think there forwards were the issue!!! Just my opinion.

He plays reserve grade on the weekends because of work(and is leading goal scorer) . It's not that we dnt have ppl that can't score it's just that we are not scoring when we should be. When we have control of game but can't finish then other team gets one on counter or offside goals or stupid penalties. When it comes to the goals department the ball just doesn't seem to fall our way(if that make sense)

yeah 100% we went through a patch exactly the same last season...... we'd butcher 10-12 chances other team would get 3 and take 2. Unfortunately you've got to try and ride it out 'win ugly sometimes' and back yourselves to come out the other side. What's the old cliche "that's football". The football Kotara v Jesmond.

3rds we apparently got what we deserved against an impressive outfit. 6-0 to home side.
Reggies a very impressive 3-0 win to the good guys. A superb hat-trick secured the win against a side always tough to beat.

1sts a pretty ordinary game to be honest. On one hand we feel a tad unlucky in that certainly had the better of the chances and more of them, however some wastefulness and more significantly, great goalkeeping kept us to 2 goals. The big fella was immense and must have got their players player. 2 errors at back gave Kotara their goals and both well taken. If being honest Kotara had a penalty shout turned down that we couldn't have complained about if was given.

All the above into consideration 2-2 probably a fair result. Good luck moving forward Kotara.

Just out of curiosity, which one?

He would have to be referring to the hand ball in the box where the defender miss kicked the ball and its bounced straight into his hand.

Some times they are given some times they are not.

I should have clarified as just about every time there was a tackle in the box or the ball hit someone there would be a mass shout. But the one that hit the arm of our captain / left back. It was ball to arm rather than arm to ball and can be argued where his arm was, but my first thought was penalty. Rest of the shouts including the one in last kick of the game, never a penalty.

I can't really agree with "pretty ordinary game". Maybe Jesmond feel that way because they didn't get the result they thought they were going to get. Kotara's 2 goals may have come from defensive errors, in saying that Jesmond's 2 goals aren't what I'd call well worked goals. Just goes to show that you have to take your chances no matter how they come about. I thought it was a pretty even game with both teams having chances to win.

Pretty much half way through the season and it really seems to be whoever wants it more on the day will walk away with points. No real easy beats.

I would expect all games tomorrow to get on and to finish. From what I can see Newcastle is only getting 40mm max for the day. This is a winter sport and with how dry it has been all fields should be able to handle it.

Could make for a 2nd half of 1st grade for all the games tomorrow interesting.

I've seen clubs call it off with less rain falling. Some clubs close the ground because someone emptied their water bottle on the pitch.

It is a winter sport though and this weekend's weather is perfect footballing weather.

The problem is it's not just meant to be a bit of rain, there are severe weather warnings in place advising people to stay indoors etc. With that in place should it be up to the council to call the fixtures out? Do they really want people out at their facilities when damaging winds and heavy rain hit?
If it was purely just a simple showery day then games should proceed for sure but with the warning from BOM is it worth going a head with fixtures?

Mid week is easier, more players can make it during the week. That weekend is usually used for a weekend away from soccer.
