Really good day for Rams at Beresfield on Saturday, comfortably winning all the 3 grades and taking the full 9 points, 5 1 1sts, 3 0 reggies and 5 2 3rds.
1sts were itching to bounce back after dropping points at Kotara a fortnight ago and that hunger showed from the outset, scoring after 90 seconds and never looking back. Conceded late goal from a well taken free kick from their captain and best player. Bero had a player see red in second half.
I've been pretty happy with the refereeing for the most part this season, relative to the level of football we're competing in I think the middle are doing quite well, sometimes at times the linesman do leave everyone head-scratching. Saturday though, a few decisions definitely had everyone baffled.
Congrats to Nelson Bay on their first win of season too. Seem like good young kids and coach who does plenty of travelling to work with them.

So funny you said that about the refs, our bloke for CHUFC v Kotara was an absolute disgrace. Close to the worst effort I've seen in 20 odd years of football. Was so 1 sided Cookers didn't get a look in. Chatting to the Kotara players on the field they couldn't believe it either as apparently he'd stitched them up previously. It really spoiled an even, competitive match. Towards the end it almost wasn't worth going into a challenge as he'd just pull us up. And the penalty shout at the end was just the nail in the coffin!!!!!
Quick example for blokes who think I might be over the top. In the second half down 2-1 he called our skipper up 30m into the Kotara half for a chat about a foul from 1 of our other players. Finished the chat then immediately waved for Kotara to take the free kick who promptly passed it 30m to their unmarked right mid and they almost scored. I questioned why our captain wasn't allowed to return to his position and received a yellow for my troubles. So frustrating.

I think in heat of moment it's easy to get carried away re referees but we need to realise where we sit in the overall picture and acknowledge that any referees with quality AND experience are going to be appointed higher. There are plenty decent I believe appointed to us or maybe we at Jesmond have just been lucky.
Saturdays game however, saw one of our guys chase back through midfield probably 25+metres and make a challenge only when he was adjacent to the player with the ball and that challenge had zero malice but was probably poorly timed - I believe he was carded because of the chase as the referee deemed intent. If he'd have been beside the player initially I believe he may have avoided the yellow, so what eventuated was a caution for his effort. We copped that. HOWEVER, later in same game, out attacker, who was mauled to the point he was later withdrawn was away and his opposing player reached out and grabbed his shirt. Our player brushed him away and then the bloke had another go (arm fully extended both times so blind freddy with his guide dog on main road could have seen it) and hence halted play with a handful of jersey. No card! The most obvious yellow card imaginable. Scoreline 3-0 Jesmond at time but that is irrelevant. Same referee laughed at sideline earlier and shook his head when asked if he was going to consult or even look to his linesman at all that day. Maybe just a bad day because I think we've had him earlier in year and been ok. If referee keeps everyone safe, doesn't make any howlers and the calls are even and consistent, I'm happy.
Onto linesman - this is where I believe the officials are falling short. And considerably. They're not concentrating, keeping up with the last man and sometimes appear to not even be watching. How many times have we seen a scenario whereby a club can yell "offside" and up goes the flag, irrespective of whether the attacker was offside and even in some cases they've been in own half. This is the area of officiating that needs improvement! As for the simple task of noting which way a throw-in should be given - sometimes that's worse than the flip of a coin because a flip would be right 50% of the time. I understand these are the referees from lower grades and maybe they've had a long day - but they need to realise that the most important part of their day from the clubs that are paying them to attend is that 1st grade line, not their earlier role.

I highly doubt that. Terrace are a good side and I havnt seen the same team be fielded yet but I've seen them when they are on and they would demolish teams. Today was not that day. Second half was a one way slaughter.
Few weird decisions by the far side linesman though. The penalty which confused both teams and a offside call when the score was only 3-1.

Good results for Jesmond winning 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0, managing to win all grades without conceding a goal. I cannot remember having achieved that before.
Didn't see any 3rds but apparently we missed plenty of chances. Reggies pretty awful game to be honest and that's probably the one Barnsley can feel a tad hard done by with combo of their wasteful finishing and brilliant goalkeeping getting us over line. 1sts game not much better and didn't appear 1st v last as we only scored the second with 15 or so to go. Would have been awful for any neutrals venturing out for the afternoon.

It's a big possibility of happening. They are 9 points clear so would have to drop a few games this next full round and others drop no points for it to change I feel.
I'm sure Terrace will be ready to bounce back after a big loss against Stockton. Could be a changer if they take the points from Jeso this weekend.

only warners bay strikers or cookers midfield will trouble them.

Also big call saying Cooks hill or Warners Bay are the only ones that will trouble them. I'm sure every other team in the comp has pushed them this season. Likes of Terrace and Stockton up there can easily knock them off the perch.

Yeah agree with this post. Stockton bloke just lost the plot but only pushing and shoving no throat grabbing that I saw. But he did it 4 or 5 fouls in a row in the space of about 5min and 2 of the fouls were against him. I found myself just staring at him in disbelief, he really left the ref no option. Ref was actually lenient I thought could have sent him earlier. Certainly helped Cookers as we were second best until then. I hope old mate apologised afterwards, Stockton certainly much more competitive than first round. From a Cooks Hill point of view we were VERY rusty after 2 weeks off. I hate these stop start seasons!!!

Certainly not against the run of play Cookers had the better of the possession and field position but defensive stuff up gifted Barnsley goal and afterwards Barnsley very difficult to break down but we had about 10 consecutive corners and eventually scraped a goal with a couple to go. Very competitive match geez Barnsley playing like a team determined not to be relegated. They certainly play that field very well. Based on todays performance Barnsley are going to very hard to break down. Very enjoyable, competitive match good bunch of blokes and dare i say it the ref had a decent game. This may sound a bit harsh from me but there is something about having 2 clubs battling it out for relegation as it makes every game involving these clubs really important and hand fought. Just wish it was the same at the top of the table....

If you have seen any of Charlestown this year, you would know that having majority possession against them doesn't usually amount to much (take out Warnersbay results who have put 10 past them they have only conceded 11) as was the case on the weekend Stockton had majority possession and Charlestown had majority of the chances.

Wow, it hasn't been that bad has it? Rain is meant to ease tonight, a lot of grounds will be fine tomorrow!
Nelson Bay got quite a bit 45mm so not being there kinda understandable. Though you would think you would do the right thing and wait until morning and have the clubs check their grounds first rather than be lazy and say all clubs closed for the weekend.
I've noticed some clubs in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie have done the same and have already decided to close all ground without bothering to see how much better it gets. This mentality in this part of Australia astounds me, it is a winter sport yet the games don't get played at the slightest bit of rain. And as you said grounds may even get better over night (so wait till morning) and will probably be even better Sunday (should wait till Sunday) so why call it all off on Friday afternoon? For the record Nobys has only had 18mm since Wednesday night, so really **** all. Wallsend has probably had about the same only 12mm from Wednesday night to 9am today.
My guess is come tomorrow morning most grounds will be closed with most games not played, a lot of clubs seem to care more about the ground than the game.

Far out just finished off bulk steamed pork buns at my local jesmond hotel. Combed my silky goatee and headed my way out to Ramo to watch the mighty Kotara Kittens had to pull over on the Main Street of Raymond terrace to deliver 6 babies from a family tree that did not branch. Followed by an embarrassing excuse by Raymond Toilers to not play third grade because of the state of the pitch. Which is a porkie pie they where just short players. Somehow they manage to have 46 kids per family but no ball boy. Anyway a good day out for the jesmond foreskin dockers.

Really is shaping up to be a good finish to the season for 4th spot and last.
Can see Nelson bay doing a job on a few teams to put pressure on Barnsley.
Stockton are well placed at the moment, big game this Saturday up against Kotara that haven't lost in a while. I think Charlestown will not make the 4 due to not being much chop except for the keeper. Whoever runs 4th, Stockton, warners bay or Kotara will definitely be a danger in the finals.
Whoever runs 4th, Stockton, warners bay or Kotara will definitely be a danger in the finals.
Not giving Beresfield a chance? 5 behind 4th and only one further back then Kotara. With most having somewhat of a difficult run in, and Beresfield having the chance of taking points off 4 of the 5 above them, they can still sneak in. Good win against Cooks Hill too. Could act as a spring board.
Essentially, I guess one of the reasons we play the game is for scenarios like this. The nervousness and excitement of who'll get the results and/or luck to go their way and make finals football.

Yep, went to check for m'self just then and ladder not updated because
scores not in from 3 clubs; 2 of 'em from Saturday fixtures.

I think it'll be right by the weekend. Tues/Wed looks the worst of it hopefully gives enough time to recover by the weekend.

Exciting weekend of football coming up. Do or die for some teams, it will be interesting to see who ends up in the 4

The suspense may have to wait another week. What's Warners bay field like? Sunday game against the Terrace would have a chance of getting on??

May be a few washed out tomorrow, hopefully these showers go away and some games can get on.
I think Terrace would be ok by Sunday, Charlestown have Barnsley on Sunday too... what is the Charlestown ground like?

From what I've seen driving home, they have been training on it all week and it looks fantastic. Solid drainage.

There's probably been less rain over Stocko way then there has been further in town and lake Macquarie.

Bit of surface water over at Corroba. Nothing too major which 'should' drain away with a nice dry arvo/night and a few hours of sun in the morning wouldn't hurt. I've seen it in worse shape.

Top 4 pretty much settled, unless kotara win next 2 games and there is a goal blowout. Very confident it will stay Jesmond, cooks hill, Stockton, terrace

WB can still do it with a win over Cookers & Stocko beating the Terrace with a 3 goal, goal difference I think. But i agree top 4 seems settled. Huge game between Terrace & Stocko

Still anyone's game for the final 2 spots. So many possibilities can happen. Jeso and kotara game 1 to watch could throw a spanner in the works.

If Jeso beat Kotara like many would expect, terrace and Stockton only need a point from the last game. To claim the final two spots.

Normally Jeso would win but being close to semis and Premiership wrapped up Kot are in with a decent show for this.
