It was Tenambit that went down.

How's everyone's squad shaping up for the season?

Us boys at Westlakes had a lot of blokes keen so we have created an All Age team, really want to keep them all at the club especially as we aim to go straight back up to ZL1 which requires a Third grade.

How's Wallsend shaping up after a successful season last year?

Don't think they would lose too much, they had handy players in both grades in ZL2 . Heard they had a few guys come over from Lakes last season so if true they should know what their in for in ZPL this season.
Uni always seem to get plenty of players and should remain fairly competitive, time will tell I guess

I would say if Tenambit dont stay up then it will probably be Dudley who are offered the spot as they came 2nd in the regular season then New Lambton.

Tenambit will definitely not be staying up. We ourselves are struggling to stay alive in the zone league competition. Hopefully find out what is going on sooner rather then later so players can look at other options to play football.

Interesting.
Normal season
Dudley 2nd
New Lambton 3rd
Raaf 4th

All good squads, new Lambton strong in reserves so strong depth. Dudley has the better top end players. Raaf has some quality too.

Raaf facilities poor. New lambton and dudley ok facilities. Probably favour New Lambton on depth , association with ZPL Squad and large junior base. But all 3 would be competitive.

Dudley no. We simply do not have the depth NL have as a squad. A few top end injuries would see us struggle and in my opinion NL are the best outfit to take the promotion. They are now a "super" club with a wealth of juniors and should really be able to provide a quality development plan. I know RAAF have big aspirations also but I fear there rotating squad and potential deployments is a risk. Our plan is to gain our way to ZL2 within next 2 seasons as we continue to build our squad. The very unfortunate news from Kurri and Tenambit also played a part. It would be fantastic to go up, but if we are not ready do we risk capitulation?

0-1 ressies, Uni keeper man of the match with a few fantastic saves. Uni centre back sent to hospital with a horrible concussion too.
Firsts
2-2 NL went ahead twice and got pegged back twice. A lot of fouls and rough play and some very inconsistent refereeing. By the end the ref had lost control. NL very strong through the middle and got 2 scrappy goal but deserved.
Uni had most of the running later in the game and saved a draw. Probably a fair result and a pretty good effort considering Uni had 11 players out across both grades and no subs in first grade

The usual high scoring affair with simba and Uni. Res Uni got to a 2-0 lead but lacked the class to finish it off.
Firsts was a goal fest with some interesting refereeing by a club ref from simba (in both grades).
Simba looked to be missing a few of their class players and Uni had 15 squad members out on the day which didn't help.

I stumbled by to watch New Lambton and Merewether from the comfort of the bowling greens after my Summer of watching the Foxes dance with the hearts of all football fans around the world. Unfortunately for another team in blue, (what the hell is the Orange strip??), New Lambton in ZL2 look weaker than they did last year in ZL3 and their Gaffer was showing the frustration as they let an ok side overrun them 5-2. To their credit, Merewether controlled the midfield better for most of the game and they spent less time screaming at the ref as the baby Eagles finished with 10. An insider Eagle tells me that with their best 11 New Lambton look good, but they are missing a bunch of 1st graders currently so depth is the test. Maybe so, maybe not, but it does go to show that if you go up, you need to show up!!!!!. Wallsend will probably show them that when they meet next round as my Wallsend RSL spies tell me that they are a mix of last years NEWFM outcasts and ZL3 champs. Yes, I enjoy licensed clubs. As for Merewether, finals on the horizon or too early?

The Orange strip? Most may or not know but New Lambton won the State Cup back in the mid '70's - wearing Orange and Black. As part of the club's upcoming 100 year anniversary, the alternate strip is a 'tip of the hat' to our predecessors as we try and rebuild the club's success into the future.

Orange and Black correct. The Blue shorts confused me. 74 1st Div with Foley and company. They were some team. They have had some guns over the years play for New Lambton. Every NPL club has a connection somewhere. This merger of The ZPL Eagles with the juniors looks promising if all the expansion stories in the bowling club are true. Good committee there, good coaches, quality kids. No predictions from me as my schooner sponsored footballers arthritis restricts me to Alder Park and I dont get to see many other games. ZPL v Dudley should be a good game Sat. Bounty travels to the ZL2 boys as they head to Wallsend. It may not be Crystal Palace anymore but always a pleasure to see New Lambton visit Wallsend in any grade.

First: Maryland-Fletcher 0-1 Hunter Simba
Reserves: Maryland-Fletcher 1-2 Hunter Simba

First time going to a Zone game this season. Very impressed with the quality and was an entertaining match. Facilities out at Fletcher are up there with some New-FM sides. Pitch maybe not the best but a good night. Some handy young players coming through at Maryland and Simba very entertaining to watch.

true, it definitely wasn't a case of Simba playing absolutely brilliant football though, it was far more Merewether playing poorly and the heads dropped considerably after 3-4 goals.

I thought that Westlakes were in good form and there wouldn't be much between the teams so I went with the draw. Looks like it ended up being a close one in the end. Plus they leaked five goals the week before.

It was an excellent game to watch and showed why both teams are top 4 material.
End to end at times both teams missing some chances then a silly free kick lead to a tidy finish and we couldn't drag it back. We had a goal disallowed for reasons that are still unknown to everyone at the ground besides the referee, who also killed the tempo of the game at times with some silly decisions.
When all is said and done we didn't take our chances Olympic took one of theirs so 1-0.
Looking forward to the return leg at Fishburn Field.

I was pondering the direction of NLFC from the comforts of the Bowling club while watching the training session of the zone league squad the other night. I reckon I've picked it. The bald bloke from reserves needs to go up top. Talks well, commands his teammates and seems knowledgeable and well respected. I've seen a lot of football in my time and I know a Vardy when I see one. The locals at the bowlo agree. Their coach is a Muppet but he owes me a midori and milk should this one work out.

Westlakes .... Maybe biased but we are in good form and results have gone out way of late.
Simba.... Quality side when they keep all 12 on the park.
Hamilton.... Flying start will see them in the 4 but they are very beatable.
Wallsend.... Very hot and cold but flying start once again will get them home.
Merewether ... Have caused an upset and have performed against the stronger teams.
Muswellbrook... Slow start to the season but seem to be turning it around.
Maryland Fletcher... Too hot and cold as well.
Uni..... Just sneak in front of New Lambton.
New Lambton... Slow start to the season is the killer
Medowie... Shame they get carved up early in the season they have some tidy players across the park hopefully they'll have a few wins by seasons end

I think both Hamilton and Wallsend will recover from some mid season woes to battle it out for minor premiership. Both need to win this weekend though.

Westlakes to finish third close to 1 and 2. Could overtake but this depends on form of the above teams.

And I am tipping Mussy to finish in 4. Bold prediction but they seem to have a strong squad and are starting to put some good wins together.

Simba and merewether just outside the 4.

ICEBERG10

Yeah a red card was given due to some form of racial comment on the field. Referee didn't elaborate more than that but talking to the bloke who got sent post match he seemed a bit confused about it, nice enough bloke off the pitch so can't imagine what he did/said on the field.

Might aswell hand over the Minor/Major prem to Hammo already this season is over....

Managed to watch Bore-send (wallsend) again choke in their catchup game to Simba last Wednesday night. my hope of what i considered the only team that was staying in touch with the comp leaders would dig in and get the win sadly wasnt the case - Simba were nothing special on the night the only impressive thing on the night was that I believe a fair few players backed up from ressies. Wallsend were terrible - energy was down, attack was limp, defence was as poor as it gets. It seems winning against Hamilton was the worst thing for them having nothing but poor results ever since that day. I thought watching them go down to a 10 man platsy was rock bottom but they just seem to keep lowering that bar every week. Does anyone knows whats going on over there? Too many egos? Mental fragility? Its such a disappointment to see. I hope someone over in the Wallsend camp can get them to pull their heads in and start showing some actual ticker for the shirt they pull on every week cos at the moment they are embarrassing that club every week by not putting it in and battling to the final whistle (fair enuf if your beaten by a better team on the day but u cant tell me these over hyped players have gave it their all for 90mins since that Hammo game) -

I would be ok with it finishing up this way

I feel that this season has another curveball (or several) to throw yet though. A lot of action in the last two rounds with tough matches for all teams in finals contention.

Westlakes play Hamilton and Merewether - The Cats last loss was to Hamilton and Merewether have had some good wins all season
Hamilton play Westlakes and Maryland - Three weeks straight of lost points would all but knock Hamo out of the race for first, big game against the cats and Maryland have proved stiff competition for everyone this year
Wallsend play Merewether and Simba - Merewether brought Wallsend's early winning streak to an end, an interesting match. Simba have been the wildcard of this comp, I still think on their day they can match it with anyone but they are their own worst enemy.
Merewether play Wallsend and Westlakes - Matchups covered elsewhere. Merewether will look to continue their 5 match undefeated streak and keep away from the pack of chasers, with Muswellbrook and Simba hot on their heels for the 4th finals spot.

Very hard to tell, but I'll go with -
Westlakes
Wallsend

The top field is a cricket pitch and we have to arrange the short sided fields around the center square.

We're unlucky enough to only have one option in this part of the world, and the club has to pay for remediation if we ruin the fields.

In all seriousness they were two close games, our keeper made a great save while 1-0 up that could have changed the game had it gone in. If the footballing gods allow it we'll see each other again this season and I'm sure it'll be a third tight game if we do.

Lakes

Bore-send
Weathers
With us looking to be playing Lakes 3 weeks in a row been the final game of the season and the 2 semis u never know we could some how get some good results.
Hamilton should beat wallsend I still think if full stregth there the best team in the comp.
This time Around they will beat wallsend over the 2 legs.
So Hamilton v weathers final
2-2 weathers on pens gotta have hope.😜

Wallsend vs merewether catch up.

Reserves - Wallsend won by a few.

Firsts - quite the match in boggy conditions. Merewether up 2-0 half time, Wallsend up 4-2 with 15 to go. Merewether 4-4 with a late goal before a final kick (or header to be precise) of the match goal to Wallsend got them the win. Wallsend had a pen saved, probably should have had a last man send off early in the second half and the ref was terrible both ways which got both teams quite heated and frustrated Will make for an interesting final round of matches!

New Lambton FC are holding a White Ribbon fundraiser day for local Domestic Violence and Homelessness Shelter, Carries Place, on the last home game of the year, Sunday August 21 against Medowie.

If any of the other clubs have Saturday games and would like to head down to Novocastrian Park (RIP Alder Park, youve done us proud) to support a fantastic cause we would love to host you pre finals.

Thanks for the introduction to Zone League 2 football this year, all in all its been a much more respectful and professional competition in comparison to league three, and we want to say a big thanks to all the sides that hosted us this year.

Good luck in the finals for those who make it!

Hi NLFCZL. Hope the day went well and some good funds raised for worthy causes.
As for the dig at L3, let it go, just as your player should have last yr. and avoided our player having stitches to his "area"
You guys certainly instigated your fair share of "banter" and if you have found more respect in L2 it is due to -
L2 do not know what you guys were involved in last yr as ALL L3 did. Not just the act but the way you carried youselves thereafter.
The "Brain(s) trust must have pulled his head in.
You have become a lot more gracious in deafeat, you had plenty of practice this year (as did ourselves)
Great to see Wallsend do well in this comp, they were the only team ready for promotion.

Thanks Massive Cock. No whinging here. We've had a blast this year, great competition played in great spirit. ZL3 is where we all start until we are good enough for promotion. Some teams take it too early and they fade out altogether. We will continue to build, improve and when ready we will advance to L2.

Good luck with that, sincerely.

As for NLFC, we aren't interested in continuing discussions from the past, in general and in that specific incident. Id hope you can eventually let go too.

For us, our focus is to continue to create a football pathway for our junior players and have a good time doing it. Personally I am loving being involved with our emerging juniors coaching, and ticking up the fundraising work. Football is about so much more than the 90 on the pitch.

Enjoy 2017 and I hope there is better luck for both clubs.

Id ask you to continue any conversation with me privately if you want to keep going, but probably take it away from the ZL2 page. Theres a bunch of sides here that have worked very hard to be in and about it during finals time, and don't need stuff they dont care about clogging up proceedings.

Good win to Mussy today over us in first grade, its the first time in two seasons of senior football that we have been so depleted and I admire those sides that have a few back up every week. Takes guts.

Keen to get out and watch some good quality football in a few weeks time. Hope Dougy isn't reffing in them...

Hey mate, all good. Have personally put a truck load of time into us (as have a few others) making the step to ZL3 and may take it a bit personally when the league is knocked. I for one have genuine admiration for what Lambton has done and expect you guys to be a power house in coming years. I hope we can reach a stage where we can develop a junior base as you guys have and progress to not just L2 but L1 and beyond with local juniors. That is my goal. As for the other thing, its the last anyone will here of it.

I think one thing that clubs in league 2 and 3 will agree on is the gap in divisions. I think this is across all 6 divisions in newcastle.

Wallsend were the automatic promotion from last year into league 2 and it hasnt suprised me to see them be successful. Although they appear to cop some flack?
New lambton applied for promotion after kurri folded. They have appeared to be competitive without threatening the top 4. I think they would have thought they would have been more successful. But league 2 is tough.

Argenton will be up next year, interesting to see how they fare. Long term, kahibah are the best placed for higher grades in seasons to come. Especially given their connection to new fm arm.

Is it time the finals series consists of more teams?? Promotion is the main goal, but more teams will create more interest for more clubs at the back end of the year and possibly help prevent some clubs stacking lower grades.

The Colonel
14-08-2016, 04:37 PM
We played New Lambton yesterday and I found them to be a fairly level headed team in First Grade. We had a Ref that was flashing yellow's like he was getting paid per card. A lot of the cards that NL copped were a bit rediculous. It was a good hit out and everyone shook hands afterwards and left the bullshit on the field. It's a damn sight classier than a couple of other clubs in the League.

I have no idea what happened in ZL3 last year, nor do I care. This is a ZL2 page, so there is no reason to bring last years bollocks up on this page. It's pointless. Everyone involved in these lower division clubs work hard to make them work so people can just play football and enjoy it. Sure, everyone has rivalries but it doesn't need to get personal and petty. At the end of the day we are all ameuteurs who just love the game.

Huge weekend with a couple of possible scenarios for the Minor Premiership.

1. Westlakes beat Weathers and finish first.
2. Wallsend beat Simba and Westlakes lose or draw and Wallsend finish top.
3. Both Wallsend and Westlakes draw and Wallsend get 1st on goal difference.
4. Both lose and Westlakes get promoted.

Merewether to do a job against Westlakes, Boresend to live up to their name to get the draw and Olympic to get the win. All three top teams will finish on 40 points with Wallsend edging on GD.

Mussy will probably beat Uni. I hope to god Uni scrap a draw, as Wethers are the better team by far and will actually compete with first place.

Based solely on my opinion of having played against both teams twice. It's obvious that Merewether has some depth issues, but I would expect those to disappear at finals time and for their boys to turn it on.

The reality is that the top two title contenders have all but walked over Mussy both times they have played them. Merewether have pushed - or beat- both teams. I believe they are the better side and will compete with Westlakes/Wallsend better.

It's almost always the exact same scenario for Mussy - some weeks they'll have one team play both grades and others they'll have a full squad. But you can almost always guarentee the squad will make the efforts needed to be available for the finals. After all these years of ID2s I think most of us can agree that you can never write off a full strength Mussy side.

All this talk of Wethers has a very real chance of being pointless though, as long as Mussy can put it together at Uni's gigantic field.

What I think all the top 4 can agree is thank whoever that Simba missed out on the top 4 - they are absolutely amazing on their day.

Yeah honestly I think Merewether's season ran into big trouble with the loss against Wallsend (thought they were the better team that night but some soft goals/mistakes let them down), would be very surprised to see them in the 4.
I couldn't pick between them and Mussy I reckon, Merewether have had some bigger scalps but the table never lies.

Definitely agree with Simba, I've said since round 2 when we played them that they were dangerous and still reckon if they had snuck in to the 4 then they would be a chance of taking the GF.

Bring on the weekend and the finals!
