Ill remember stebre as the ref who always allows our players to get hacked down tackle after tackle without doing anything to stop it

MFKS
20-04-2016, 12:38 PM
That wasn't Strebre.

He dismissed Boogs against the Roar

Sorry your right.

Hard to keep up with all the red cards and shit refereeing we have had lately

Jeterpool

Surprising stats - I can't remember ever walking away from a Jets game that he refereed thinking he'd done a good job. Maybe he was better when we played away?

Funny enough, only 7 of his Jets officiated matches were away from Hunter Stadium! 4 of them were losses and 3 were wins.

We only lost at home with Strebre in charge once in the last 7 years

^^^
Didn't mind old Strebre, sure he made mistakes from time to time but when you compare him to Williams and Beath, he had a likeable demeanour about him because he at least came across as a ref who tried to communicate with the players on their level. He also generally liked to let the game flow and probably allowed the "advantage rule" better than anyone.

Spot on.

Delovski was always my pick of the referees if I were to have a choice. Peter O'Leary was much the same while he was still refereeing.

he also allowed victory to hack the crap out of leonardo in the home game earlier in the season and has a habit of giving away dodgy penalties

Some interesting comments too.
Shows how clueless some people are with the comment from "Mighty Miller Fan": If the prospective owner doesn't want Miller, we don't want the owner.:rof:
I don't think it would be ideal to change coaches again, our 5th in 3 seasons, but if the new owner who is putting his own money into this club thinks he has a better option who will get this club out of the doldrums, then who are we to complain.

Castro is off contract so will probably need to be made marquee. I don't think Keogh would be on huge money, he was pretty much just playing local league in Perth as he wants to live there.
Still, shaping up to be a very very good squad!

I know i have a terrible memory but isn't there a 3 month give notice deal with Miller. New owner would only have to cough up 12 weeks wages if he wished to part ways with him prematurely.

Not sure about JP and JVS and Co. Prob the same.

IMO i think Miller should be allowed to serve out his remaining year but hey at the end of the day if there is a new owner it is his prerogative i guess which way he goes regarding the management and coaching staff line up.

If miller was really trying to set us up for the long term he should have been absolute **** and played shit ****s worse than Stubbins, that way when a new owner replaces hm everyone is relieved and embraces the new guy.

As it stands any new potential manager has his work cut winning over people who liked Miller's mentality and reckon he deserves to continue.

Any new dude better have the team winning straight away.

I do too. He's started the rebuild.

If a new coach comes in, then it's yet another year treading water with "players who weren't my signing" and then starting to build upon what we have already started.

Therefore, I expect it will happen.

I think it shows what a great team (or squad) Adelaide had this season rather than relying on a few individuals to win them matches.
Last couple of seasons they really struggled to win when Carrusca was unavailable, this year he was dropped to the bench a few times because the team was going so well and he had to really perform to win back his starting spot.
Wanderers weren't too dissimilar either in that they had a strong allround squad while likes of City heavily relied on Individuals (Fornaroli, Mooy, Novillo) to win them games and even Perth (with Castro and Keogh) and Roar (MacLaren and Corona).

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/soccer/mariners-and-phoenix-to-play-in-canberra-after-act-government-secures-aleague-deal-20160428-goh67v.html

It will be revealed on Friday the Central Coast Mariners will play Wellington Phoenix at Canberra Stadium later this year in the first regular-season fixture in the capital since 2009.

The Mariners' deal, which has been mooted since December last year (http://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/soccer/central-coast-mariners-consider-bringing-aleague-games-to-canberra-stadium-20151211-glle45.html), will take advantage of Canberra's new link to Wellington via the start of international flights to New Zealand.

He will end up back in Adelaide, I reckon. He was hugely hyped, great prospect then did his knee last year, so I imagine that (and City's big money signings) are reasons why he has disappeared.

*edit* didn't realise he was back in the City squad in April. Over 2 years with them, he's played 3 hours of first team football and has 2 goals. At 19, I wouldn't mind him joining us.

We need 3 U20s contracted so could be worth a go on minimum wage. I thought Dekker looked ok when I saw him too. We are massively light on up front apart from Nobby, Pav is awful so I would accept Dekker as depth on minimum wage.

Wade Dekker is worth a trial, better than Pav and can still improve a fair bit at 22. Get him in for a week on trial and if he's not good enough for us it would probably still boost his chance of singing with someone else.

Nice guy Jets doing a young kid a solid whilst doing some easy scouting.

I'm pretty sure the majority here have finally seen that 'local youf' aren't up to par to be A league players any time soon. They cant even compete in the national premier league let alone compete with the big boys in the a league. Until they can beat NPL convincingly every week they wont get a look in. Simple.

Valid points Member, however I very much got the impression that Kitto left as much as he was let go.
Melbourne City already don't seem like a club willing to give youth a chance, so failing there isn't really a sign of a bad player. We played this season with no actual striking backup from round 2 last year until we signed Nobby mid season, a trial for a young quick striker like Dekker isn't the end of world.
Every single team is the HAL signs rejects from other teams and the good teams turn them into better players.. Look at Wanderers/Roar/Adelaide... We have a small pool of talented Australian players to fill spots. We only have 3 visa spots available and we can't fill every position with strong imports, we may need options off the bench that aren't fashionable signings. Guys like Lustica, La Rocca and Haliti are boring uninspiring signings that every good teams needs to make to help out through the year. Players like Dekker/Kitto/Kamua/Clut are cheap gambles that can really help out when they pay off. Borrello and Austin were cheap young roughies that performed well this year.

Chillout, we still have plenty of time to find some import signatures, but the local signings may as well be done early so that they can sort themselves out early and bed in early.

As for regional NNSW one of the drawbacks it isn't the Newcastle Jets responsibility to promote the game in the area.

It is Northerns

My point ain't about getting an Hal team in coffs. It's was about giving the local football community something to use to cut through into more column inches in local papers, more time on local TV, all stuff that will help grassroots clubs get sponsors and attract players.

But hey while ever we have millions playing the game and not many of those millions turning up to the elite matches lets just keep ignoring the grassroots.

Hearts and minds don't matter? Bullshit. Get major regional centres like coffs or tamworth or port Macquarie focussed on the jets, increase TV ratings for jets games due to nnsw towns all tuning in to watch and we might start to be able to argue with broadcasters that we do warrant a Saturday night timeslot and we get less stinking hot Sunday arvo games.

Their whistle stop tour last year got a whole heap of people in the manning area watching and traveling, and buying merch.

A better relationship with nnsw might see better links being built with Newcastle/hunter based clubs and benefits flow both ways.

Also Bonnevacia from the Nix? Now that they've signed Finkler will they be able to play with two 10s?

2 weeks time I'm off to play Kew on Friday then Saturday/ Sunday at Bonville.

Couldn't get on at Coffs on the Friday because they have some corporate day on. Was keen to try it though.

Oh well Bonville will have to do.

Why do we need to take a game to a regional centre when all we have to do is promote the foz?

That way everyone, not only in those centres, but across the world can come on here and get a clear and accurate account of what's wrong with the jets, the HAL, the Socceroos, the game in general and basically any other topic up for discussion from the members wonderful postings.

I'm truly surprised that it isn't already a nationally syndicated production......

Is Pablo Sanchez off contract? Would be hard to get. Was watching the aftermath of the GF he looked pretty chummy with his Spanish mates. However has now won Major and Minor prems with them. Might be chasing something different and would be a walk up starter in Newy.
Also Bonnevacia from the Nix? Now that they've signed Finkler will they be able to play with two 10s?
Just food for thought. Think I read today that Jets were only chasing Aussie talent for the first part of preseason with Visa players to come in late. Likely to do with ownership me thinks.

I can understand where the likes of Gaz and Belchardo are coming from in regards to playing a game at Coffs or Port but I am still of the opinion that this can be done during the off-season or in pre-season. Engage with the community then, come season proper it's about playing for points and trying to win as many games as possible at home.
I'm with the good old Member on this one!
Find it hypocritical that Eland and Northern talk of wanting to engage other areas of NNSW using the Jets as the conduit but the NNSW NPL competition as long as I can remember has never included a side outside the Hunte....how's that for bloody engaging other areas of NNSW!!!

Honestly I know he isn't as good as Birraz, but BK is an option that I feel is better then some other option people will throw out. People like Lawrence Thomas are not better then BK, so if that's the option then I'd say sign a solid youth goalkeeper with some potential that would be on smaller coin and give BK the run

So geography doesn't help getting people go travel from the Taree region to play football in tje stronger Newy competition as it too far.

Yet you seem to think that having a game in Coffs Harbour which is roughly 2-2.5 times the distance further than Taree/Newy is a great idea as it will see busloads of people do the 9-10 hour round trip to Newy every second week to watch these shit ****s lose??

My point - which you haven't yet managed to understand (not asking you to agree) is that a game will help FOOTBALL in the regional centres, AND could help boost TV rating for jets games.

Is the move to take a game to Coffs Harbour part of the A-League's move, which started back in Season 6 for clubs to take a match to a regional center, or is this a money making exercise by the club?

I'm not seeing any reference to a direction from the A-League to "take a game" to a regional center. Just trying to understand the motivation, not questioning whether it is right or wrong.

To be honest I've been waiting for a move like this to occur. We've been the away team for a number of regional games over the last few years with Adelaide, Wellington and Western Sydney. Our last away game was back in Season 6 in Port Macquarie so, in a sense, it's overdue.

While the club will no doubt assist members to attend through buses and the like, the take up will most likely be quite low (look at how many make the trip an hour down the road to Gosford). If the club reflect this in their price for membership, I don't have a problem with it. They should automatically "charge" members for the game under the assumption they will attend.

Realistically, the match is only proposed at this time.

Interesting to see whether the Jets actually make a play or let him go to a rival Aussie side with ease like they did with Judas going to Perth

Problem is we don't really need midfielder where taggart is a guy who is exactly what we need!

Where are all the Song of Fire and Ice reader this season?
It's crazy they were usally all like "oh the books are better", "this is nothing like the books" and "spoiler but this happens in the books".
Yet this season they've gone quite.

I'm still up to book 4 and am really really struggling with it.

Not sure about whether books are better than the show either, because I haven't watched them. Each unto their own I say.

They've "gone quiet" because
1) the show has overtaken the books.
2) the show has deviated so far from the books.
3) they're really not that quiet IMO.
