Jeterpool how far your stats go back??
Re our stat of not scoring in forever and new record coming tomorrow one
I remember back in the Breakers days we went through another drought in about 1994. We went 7 games or something without scoring.
Remember one Sunday arvo after a Friday Wash Out we were down 1-0 at Breakers Stadium against Adelaide City at HT.
The heavens opened and everyone ended up in the grandstand
We turned it on in the second half and Warren Spink bundled a right wing cross from Bobby Naumov in from close range. Place went off.
Barely a minute later we were behind again when Damaien Mori got put through 1 on 1 and made no mistake slotting past keeper.
Joy to Heartbreak in 60 seconds.

Anyway how does the Jets impending shooting blanks record stack up with this one??

could have been up by 4 at half time.
unravelled in the second half and were looking long odds to hold on when kanta was sent off. luckily, we scored a great goal on the counter to put us out of reach.
wellington finished all over the top of us and should have scored another but i don't think they deserved anything from the game.

Meet up with you in Brisbane for sure
Rather interesting to see today's game.
We come out at home and had 5 shots before Milos scored
Rather novel idea to try and attack at home and put our opponents off their stride
We played 4-4 -2 and we looked a hell of a lot better
Though it could be argued we had 2 up front as Carney just wasn't tracking back
Alividoic looked a shitload better playing on right.
Maybe something in that
I thought we actually had a ****ing go in the first half About ****ing time
Negatives.
I understand we had 10 men for majority of second half but we parked the bus the entire half. Why??
The subbing on of Leonardo in injury time??
Bloke is coming back from injury.Game is in the bag. What's the point and why risk him?? Keep him off and rested FFS
All in all good to win for a change. Nothing to get overtly excited about.
Phoenix were very ****ing poor.
How Carney Alivodic Milos ran away from their back 4 being as slow as they are as often as they did defies belief

How where we lined up? We did 4-4-2 with Carney and Trif up front and the back 4 is self explanatory but I'm confused how our middle 4 where lined up. Was it a diamond with Kanta at attacking, Kitto and Enver out wide and Poljak at defensive or something different?

There's a lot to like about that win. Anyone who thinks we should have played a perfect 90 minutes of football needs their head checked. We finally saw some intensity in the first half and what a surprise, it lead to some well-earned goals. It's a shame Boogaard didn't get the first goal which the ref only had to wait 2 seconds for before realising he didn't have to blow for the pen.
Positives:
- First-half lift in intensity - the players were actually up for this game.
- First-half tactics - might have been a standard 4-4-2 but we've wanted Miller to tinker for a while now and he finally did it without going over the top. We also seemed happier to utilise the long ball down the flanks which paid massive dividends.
- First-half Milos - seemed to up the effort and it paid off at times.. amazing what a little pressure can do to the opponents back 4.
- Defensive line - I'll go as far as to say that was one of the most committed performances I've ever seen from our back four in pretty much any Jets season. Especially in the second half, and ignoring the reasons below as to why they had so much work to do, you can't argue that the amount of bodies that were flying in for blocks and the scrambling defence was fantastic. Although the goal was scrappy, the mids have to take some blame for that.
- Playing 35 minutes with a player less and still managing 1-1.
Negatives:
- The second half drop off - for whatever reason, the Nix came out firing and we didn't seem to have any plan of even stemming the tide. I know games fluctuate but we simply had no answer.
- Kanta's red - stupid act that could have cost us the game but you can't fault his enthusiasm. I just hope it doesn't cost us next week.
- Second half Milos. Should have been subbed earlier and more defensive pressure might have eased some of the pressure on our own defenders
- Our subs again were a little odd. The Leo sub was useless - he could have put on one of the younger blokes around 80-85 and told them to run like a headless chook and try to disrupt Welly's passing at the back
- Putting $15 on a 3-0 win which would have pocketed $400

Have to agree about the scrambling defence and blocking.
It was fantastic.
The Nix goal was a combination of a quick free kick and blokes clocking off.
It could have been prevented if 1 or 2 of them asleep were on the job but you pay for mistakes at this level

That last goal is perfect example of playing the ball forward quickly, smartly with good technique and that just let the opposition defence for dead.... Perfectly ambitious executed counter... More of it please...

It's what happens when you actually make forward runs.
Sure you will get caught offside occasionally but when you get it right even a slow bloke like Carney gets enough head start the opponent is in trouble.
That much of a rate event with us I struggle to recall the last time we scored a goal like that where a player got put through 1 on 1 and either slotted past or went around the keeper
More please Millertime

Woke up feeling even better about last night
I know it's 1 game but Miller finally became a coach in the last week as he realised the need to change the tactics.
The decision to move carney up front and allowing him to exert all his energy torwards an attacking output was brilliant. Triffo had his best game as he had a bloke working off him and a smart player at that.
The other brilliant piece of tactics was to play our wingers properly instead of that inverted crap we have been preaching. Inverted wingers only work when the full backs bomb on and because we haven't been doing that it doesn't work. Alivodics best attribute IMO is his ability to run and cross the ball and he was outstanding yesterday. Still not sold on kitto
Final one was the decision to play cowburn off the bench in his rightful position and not to bring Watson on. Watson shouldn't see the pitch again this season and cowburn should be starting this week next to poljak
This game proved that if played in the right positions our players ain't half bad. Having Leonardo now fit is a good problem to have.
In summarising KUTGW Scotty and back it up this week

He is only going to get better and looks to be all class on the ball.

I would have thought so too, although Miller said in the post-match presser that it was something those two had actually rehearsed in training through the week.

It was refreshing to get a win yesterday, and like BodyNovo, I was pleasantly surprised to see we adapted our tactics.
A good coach will set their team up to be versatile and take advantage of the opposition's weakness. If we are realistic about reaching the finals, we needed to win yesterday against an understrength Phoenix at home. Similarly we need to defeat Perth next week otherwise we are back to 9th position again - win and we could be a point out of the top 6.
It was pleasing that we started quick out of the blocks too. The last goal we scored within 10 minutes was back in March 2012 against Perth. Also scoring with 10 men isn't something I would have expected from the group.
I was nervous after they scored, and I don't know whether that was justified because we have have only conceded >2 once this year. I guess it's hard to shake the feeling's of last year still.

I wasn't feeling comfortable at 3-0. Even with 5 minutes to go at 3-1 I wasn't feeling great about it. Probably a normal reaction to a team that seems to make a habit of conceding late.

I watched this on delay and right around the time the game was ending live my phone lit up with a million messages and all I could think of for the last 30mins was that we had def blown it.
How refreshing that for one week at least we didn't cock things up completely.

If next game he impresses then I'd say give him an extended run in the starting, would also like too see ugarkovic get a solid run when he's done on olyroo duty. The quality of those two could determine who stays next season as we may find less need in Watson and Kanta

if we are going to give credit to Miller for finally reading the foz getting over himself then thats a big 10/10 effort by the gaffer.
will be hilarious to see if he now goes back to his way of playing now that the pressure is off for a wee bit.
Being that we are playing a pretty average side in Perth this week there should be no excuses for not playing in a positive manner like we did last week.
Perth will probably beat us as they usually do but they are not like Heart Victree Roar etc we should fear
Get in to them and we will see they are beatable
It is a shame Kanta got sent when he did. It would have been interesting to see whether Miller parked the bus the entire second half with 11 men

There's only a few reasons to do that, and it's if the amount he's on is lowered and we use the out of the cap payments. Other then that, it's better for him to head off elsewhere and see if that refreshes his career a bit. Marlow can also go with him though
For me, Jackson suits CB more then LB, but can cover it so use him as a cover, sign another young CB option and get a starting LB

Durante will foul Milos in the box on the 7th minute allowing us a reprieve grom the record then we'll go on to lose 1-4 with a game full of wonderful tavtics being poorly executed and foolish substitutions which defend a losing game rather than attacking it.
what a prediction (well the foul and goal in the 7th min)

Hi all, as this is my first attempt at doing a true and thorough match review, please go easy.
Jets and Wellington Player Ratings……
NEWCASTLE
Birraz – 6: A very shaky performance. Caught in no man’s land on a couple of occasions. Relieved to have little to do in the second half as his side dominated thoroughly.
Mullen – 6: Went missing down the right flank when McGlinchey drilled in the low cross to set up the opening goal and continually left gaps throughout the first half. Looked more comfortable when he switched to centreback.
Jackson – 7: Strong in the air. Knew where to be and when to be there. Helped out in attack whenever possible and even set-up the crucial equalizer.
Hoffman – 6.5: Kept on battling despite taking two blows to his shoulder. Had to be taken off at the break.
Boogs – 7.5: Provided the biggest threats in the first half with his darting runs down the left flank. Made a pivotal clearance off the line to keep his side afloat. The outcome could have been very different if it wasn’t for him.
Carney – 6.5: Very industrious but for all his clever runs and cheeky flicks, there was hardly any end product.
Poljak – 7: Didn’t see as much of the ball as he would’ve liked. His long range passing and shooting looked suspiciously out of sync.
Kitto – 6.5: Left flailing whenever Wellington’s midfield line charged forward on the counter. Looked more composed in the second half as the team started controlling the match.
Kanta – 7: Barely noticeable for large parts of the first half. But took all of two minutes into the second half to come to life with a stunning strike to draw the game levelled.
Alivodic – 7.5: Caused the Wellington backline endless headaches. Had a few strong shouts for a penalty. Like Kanta, he looked out of sorts with his normally lethal shooting.
Milos – 6.5: Spurned a number of great chances with his indecisiveness. Ironically, it was because of that flaw that lead to the second goal when he missed a shooting chance and had to play the ball back to Poljak.
Substitutes:
Cowburn – 8.5: Completely turned the game around and revived his team’s jaded attack. Left the Wellington defenders chasing thin air most of the time. Showed his class with a clinical finish for the third goal.
Leonardo – 7: Held up the ball well when he needed to. Created the third goal with a lovely pull back.
Cooper – 4: Meh.
WELLINGTON
Moss – 7: Made a few good saves to deny Newcastle drawing levelled in the first period. Could not be blamed for the three goals his team leaked in.
Gulley – 6.5: Good reading of the game. Knew exactly when to cut into the middle to help out his centrebacks. But very fortunate to stay on the pitch after the reckless tackle on Kitto.
Durante – 7.5: Barely put a foot wrong. Dealt with everything Newcastle could muster in the first period, whether it was low passes, high balls, crosses or through balls. Continued to impress in the second but the pressure was just too much.
Danaskos – 6: A little unsure with his positioning, but together with Durante, they kept Newcastle at bay for long periods.
Fox – 6.5: Like Gulley, he had to work hard cutting in from the flank to the centre to overload the penalty area.
Lia– 6: Quietly pulled the strings in the first half but just went plain quiet in the second. Had to play virtually as an extra defender just to get a touch of the ball.
Bonevacia – 7: So lively in the first half but like everyone else in Stripes, completely disappeard after the restart.
Rodriguez– 6: Made up the numbers in midfield but started to struggled immensely when Alivodic dropped down deep following Cowburn’s introduction.
Riera – 6.5: Solid in the first half but failed to keep up with the pace in the second and it was his failure to pick out Poljak’ run that lead to Newcastle’s second goal.
McGlinchey – 7: Constantly back-tracked to help out Fox to defend the left flank. Exploited the space left vacant for him to attack but a shame none of his other deliveries from the wings were converted into goals.
Powell – 6: Like Milos, he fluffed a few decent chances in the first half. He must have regretted it as he was utterly isolated after the resumption.
Substitutes:
Appiah-Kubi – 5: Only had one meaningful touch of the ball and he went and gave it away.
Doyle – 5: Brought in to tighten up the backline but he didn’t do any better than the rest.
Ridenton – 6: Extra points for scoring his side’s only goal.
If after reading this, you get the feeling I didn’t even watch the game…. You’re right – my real Sunday Arvo match report would actually read as follows….. I was planning to get the Wellington Game all week, Furns had even asked me to do a player ratings match report, I’d filled the car with Petrol to save time on Sunday arvo as the 2hr drive from beautiful sleepy Wingham isn’t one that I’m too keen to add time onto….. Then on Saturday night I got a message from a mate calling a Sunday arvo beers session at a chilled out local beer garden… some crazy weird Hippy band were playing and the beers were expected to be cold. The Stone and Wood Pacific Ale was a bit light and “thin” so I quickly switched the White Rabbit Dark Ale, which was much more robust in flavour and far easier to sit on and chill out, to the Gypsy Pirate Circus weird stuff these band (who looked like Beetlejuice and Captain Jack Sparrow’s love child on Acid) were playing. I got home just in time for Dinner and to listen to Big Phil and Adam talk about lots of things and occasionally fill us in on what was happening on the pitch. The kids needed bathing so I turned off the radio at 1-0 figuring that if me not being at the match in person was actually helping the team win, then listening to it on the radio probably wasn’t a good idea…. So in short, it’s my fault we won!
