I can't see the point in elections when we could simply elect public officials based on their social media stats.
And once they get into parliament let's make it a big brother style;e thing whereby every Sunday the public get to phone in and vote out a politician of their choosing.

nah.
its actually a private company not liking someone using its 'brand' for their own advancement.
in the same way bad players get cut from football teams, a couple of companies have decided to better represent themselves.
people are out there thinking they have the 'right' to use someone elses dime to have their say.
its not the case.
Govt protects your right to say that stupid shit, but facebook aint the govt.
Facebook doesnt belong to the people, not any more than football teams 'belong' to the fans.
now.
having said that.
id love to see the same rules applied to people advocating for violence against police, politicians and certain religions.
but again, none of those decisions are up to me.

oh for sure, but this is how the system works.
just because facebook doesnt want you, it doesnt mean you cant be found.
sadly though, just like Bill O'Reilly, the move away from an established platform may bring an initial flood of followers to your new home but long term its just not the same as being on a major media site. it just isnt.
now, remembering that 10 years ago Facebook wasnt a major media platform, so it remains possible that an alternative will come along and wipe them all out.
but for now. nah, Jones has suffered a big hit. but thats the game they are all playing.

These Liberal wankers need to be taught a lesson about their petty bullshit and power plays.
Hes scorching the earth on his way out the door, and its no less than that party deserves.
By doing this, hes also guaranteeing Shorten will be our next PM, and the world will be fully exposed to easily the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had.
All the while Big Mal will be back in the crib, doing a spot of fishing off the front pier and getting his banana lounge ready for the new years eve fireworks.

What is a joy to behold is Turnbulls salting of the earth policy he is employing so regardless of whether Dutton Morrisson or Bishop get the gig tomorrow they will have no hope of healing the damage in thge Liberal party let alone the damage done to their nect election chances

Serena is a serial offender when it comes to gamesmanship type antics including verbally abusing officials, volunteers, and her opponents.
She complains a lot about how women are treated differently but if she had to play against men she'd be bagaled by any 3rd string College player that wouldn't be capable of making a cent on the men's tour.
She should be thankful that the women's game exists because she'd be penniless playing against 14 year old boy's let alone men.

The sad thing is the massive attention this shit is receiving on social media. Elsewhere you have women and children being persecuted / raped / enforced in slavery and yet a very well paid person has a melt down at work and that's where everyone's attention is.
There are millions of persons suffering because of their gender and socioeconomic status - Serena Williams is not one of them.

I have 2 points on this whole episode.
1. I am not black, nor a woman. I have never experienced racism or sexism. If Serena Williams (any any african american) is offended by the cartoon, then ok, I have no choice but to believe them. But the likes of the usual suspects (most of whom are white/middle class westerners) claiming to be 'offended' by the cartoon is a bit off the mark. They just want to be on the right side of the argument, when they really have no place in the argument. The French Open/Catsuit issue a few weeks ago was a great example of that.
2. One of the best words that have sprung up in the last little bit has been 'whataboutism'. This is used almost exclusivley by the anti-Trump brigade who use the term as a term of ridicule when Trump (or his supporters) bring up any indiscretion by Hillary/Obama etc. They tell me that Trump is guilty and by indulging in 'whataboutism' further discredits him.
Yet the second the Serena thing started, those same voices didnt mind pulling out the 'whataboutism' when bringing mens behaviour into the argument.
In short.
I dont care about the cartoon.
People are hypocrites.

Exactly what though was the issue to start with
She got caught by the umpire being coached from the stands
The umpire applied a sanction as he was entitled to do
She spat the dummy over it and lost the plot.
We not talking about a young rookie here but a seasoned veteran
Anyone want to offer up it as just a show from her as a tactic to try and unsettle her opponent as Serenas tennis wasnt doing it ??
Obviously didnt work
But exactly what wasthe problem with the umpires response ??
Did he claim to be be doing it because she was female,??
Did he claim to be doing it because of her skin colour??
Not from what I have seen
Just people jumping to conclusions and playing the sex and race cards to carry on

From your perspective its hard to argue any of this.
You'll also probably find a lot of the general public would agree with you.
what none of us know, however, is Serena Williams' perspective on it.
To hear about her childhood, her upbringing, the crap she copped all the way up, the crap she copped once she got there, and the crap she still gets today, I can totally see how she sees it as just another example of her being treated differently from the rest, when maybe she thinks she deserves more respect.
I mean, we talk all the time about how referees have different interpretations for different teams in football. everyone in this is human, and they all allowed to be fallible.

But in the middle of a tennis match how she feels about the officials call and whether she likes it or not is irrelevant
You still have to suck it up and get on with the game

Wonder if old mate umpire will sue her for the defamation of his character that she made baseless accusations about ??

she was having her ass handed to her on a night when she was chasing history, in front of her 'home' crowd. Its prob the most pressure shes ever faced on the court and she cracked.
you see it with Berisha, O'Donovan etc.
i aint even for one second trying to step into their shoes, i cant ever think of being under such pressure, so no idea how id act.
but if theres one thing that bothered me about it, it was the post match comments, and the 'reaction' from the media. they asked her a bunch of softball questions and actually cheered her after the press conference was finished. i know its a small example, but this is why Trump gets such milage from demonising the press.
The press should have gone way harder on her, yet they all fear their access to the superstar will be revoked if they rock the boat (and they prob have Sir Alex to thank for that).
In the big moment, the ump cracked, the player cracked and the press cracked.
meanwhile Osaka cleaned house and no one gave her any respect either.
Shes the one who actually has a fair reason to gripe.
again, applying the rules makes this an easy argument.

Agreed. Great post Plague.
The umpire didnt crack though
He made the calls in accordance with the rules
1 Warning for coaching
CORRECT
2 Point for Smashing her racket
CORRECT
3 Game for her abuse calling him a thief etc
CORRECT
All he done was applied the rules when issues of rule violations come up
But as per typical of modern society it somehow his fault **** off it is
Be like us blaming the ref for giving Roy a red for his kung fu kick
The 10 weeks we can argue about but not the red card or the suspension for it
I am not black, nor a woman.
Every time I learn more about your personal life I adore you more, plaguesey.
The two things I've taken from this Serena incident is:
- If I called a ref in football a thief and claimed he robbed me a point, I'd be getting minimum 2 game suspension without any form of question. Serena needs to be (pun intended) slammed for this comment. And if similar or worse genuinely happens in tennis, which I truthfully haven't seen, then that too needs to be slammed (used it again, no regrets). And the gender, or even the level of competition, of the guilty party is irrelevant in comparison to the consistency of the umpires needed.
- the most racist part of "that" cartoon was the depiction of Serena's opponent

Again, to be clear. I ain't blaming the umpire.
The ump had absolutely zero to do with Serena losing.
Osaka was the reason Serena lost.
But.
Discretion can be applied to the 1st and 3rd violations. He chose to be strict and I'm cool with it.
But 'feminist twitter', joining forces with 'black twitter' have come up with plenty of examples where the same ump used way more leniency with white/Male players. And that's where the 'prejudice' argument has come in.
Again, I'm cool with what the ump did. But if Serena feels she was treated differently from the men, and the white girls, well then that's the point you, me and all the other honkies cant dive into.
I'll defend the ump because it's the same reason I hate VAR.

Serena didn't handle losing well and did a good job of deflecting the blame onto the ref to save her brand (Any attention can be good attention if you are smart enough). If that was the end of the story I think it would be pretty normal.
In regards to the cartoon.
There will always be a fine line between Satire and Racism and we do need to be careful to stop people using satire as an excuse to be racist. I'm very confident the cartoonist had every intention of hitting a nerve with his depiction, but he wasn't doing it from a racist stand point. He was just ridiculing her and one of her strongest features is her skin colour. She is very proudly african-american and in satire you need to hit them where it hurts. (Trumpf's hair and tweets, Obama's smile and wife, Turnbulls money, Abbots nose and budgee smugglers)
He gets publicity out of it, the papers sell more copies, Serena gets noticed more than the 1st Japanese Singles Grand Slam Champion EVER! The powers at be win again.

I would say we actually are a pretty racist country in the grand scheme of things
Our geographic isolation in that it 3 hours to NZ and 5 hours to PNG and couple of hours to Pacific Islands mean that we have an isolation mentality
Basically everyone here is not exposed to different cultures as you get elsewhere in the world
We also have the added dynamic where for some reason we seem to want to apologise for a decision made by the British Government 230 years and pander to the descendants of those effected by it
So as a result we have a divisiveness and insecurity about ourselves

Well I'd def say that none of those examples you gave amount to the 'country' being racist.
Just go look at Japans immigration policies, then tell me if that's racism?

Firstly, I said he didn't do anything wrong. What he did was basic satirical cartoon drawing. He accentuated her strong physical frame and drew her as a bit of a savage, typical cartoonist style. He didn't do it to be racist, he did it because that is how cartoons work when you are trying to grab headlines. I'm ok with him and his drawing, but i'm also ok with a few people questioning his intentions to make sure this wasn't the tip of a big ol' raceberg. (read:racist iceberg) It will blow over in a day or two.
Secondly, Australia is very racist. We just don't have guns and can't make a race war out of it. We have a huge amount of politicians who promote anti-muslim propaganda as well as keeping aboriginal problems as far away from discussion as possible. Then add in the Alan Jones of this country who wish we all lived in the good old days before inflation and the improvements of the middle class.
My mum is a racist, my in laws have said some bad things in conversation. My brother in law was sprouting crap the other week about Muslims taking over Christianity in the next decade. As soon as I googled the 'facts' he told me and they were easily proven wrong, we had a long discussion about believing what you read on facebook and fact checking. He is a smart guy and a good, caring person. But we are too lazy to fact check and too isolated from the rest of the world to have any real clue what's going on.
Imagine if we had to deal with something like the Syrian Refugee situation in Europe, or the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. A larger proportion of Aussie's would be more worried about them stealing the tiny amount of land we have left than actually helping. Not the majority, but certainly a lot of people would be terrified of those refugees without knowing why.

I dont think I'm getting my point a Ross very well.
I'm citing 'Australia being racist' as in we have different policies for different colours, we have different wage structures for immigrants etc. From what I see, if you're an 'aussie' then you're on about as level a playing field as there is internationally.
You brought up a lot of religious based points. Again, I'm not talking about religion, and as far as the govt is concerned our laws trump any religious rights (I think). So again, our system is fair, but yeah for sure there are bigots.
As for the refugee crisis etc, well isn't it a good thing that we live in a country that looks after its folks, provides health care aged care etc to help the needy that we dont feel the need to fear our govt* and they dont have the power to make us live in fear.
By all means we should look after others in need but 250 years ago we were a bunch of I digenous folk living off the land, now we have x-boxs, beer and porn. And WE BUILT THAT SHIT!!!!!!

I think I get where you're coming from. As a country we aren't set up to persecute based on race. You get the same health care, pay the same taxes and have to watch the same terrible tv.
But, as a people, I do think we are up there with Americans in the racism game. That said, I think racism is a terrible by-product of being uniformed and opinionated. So the problem is more that we are stupid than just racist. The Cronulla Riots are about as close we can get to actual civil fighting in this country anyway so we can't really compete when it comes to the affects of racism compared to the US. We are pretty soft when it comes to actual anger/fighting in this country (which is a good thing), we just bitch and moan on TV until something better comes along.
I don't know the numbers but I reckon more Americans would be shot by their animals than Aussies are shot by gang members / violent criminals. Hence why the race problems over there are so violent and in your face.
Guns + Angry stupid people = shootings.
No Guns + Angry stupid people = angry stupid people.
Well I'd def say that none of those examples you gave amount to the 'country' being racist.
Just go look at Japans immigration policies, then tell me if that's racism?
Cause Australia is wayyyyyyyyy more welcoming of 'different folk' than most countries and have been for ages.
Japan is pretty much the most insular country I've ever been to, yet they dont seem to have this rep.
Japan looks after Japan first and foremost
I give you a couple of examples how Thailand is similar
In Thailand a foreigner cant buy land. or a house
You can pay for it but put it in your Thai partners name
The only thing a foreigner can buy in your name is a condo.
In Australia it is a free for all with lets just look at the Chinese as one group investing heavily in housing and land purchase
Now if the Australian government enacted a policy similasr to the Thais what would the reaction be from the vocal outraged snowflakes in this country??
In Thailand they have a two price structure.
You want to go see eg Thai Royal Palace in Bangkok and it has two admission prices
One dirt cheap price for the local citizens
One much more expensive price for foreigners
Should hear some of the foreigners blow a fuse over that policy
You try bringing a policy in like that where say entry into say Opera House is free for Skips and pay for entry for foreigners and see what the response is
Both examples show the locals looking after themselves as they really should be doing
Problem is here we are that insecure about our own National identity and being patriotic about Australia we are too worried about offending people

I not interested in debating these policies in specific either but the reality is that they are there whether rightly or wrongly
Our government continues to recognise both white and black Australians seperately rather than just classing us all as Australians and going from there
As a result we have divisiveness inflicted upon us from the government before the media even puts their spin and agenda into the equation

Indeed it's a fine line between celebrating and respecting a culture to outwardly grouping people by their colour or race.
I dont think govts do a great job of it either.
Anyone answer this for me:
With all the debate about changing the Australian flag to something more inclusive. .........has anyone ever asked if the indigenous folk are ready to give up their flag too?
Because if we're all gonna come together and kick out the past (namely the union jack) then 'everyone' gotta start fresh no?

I don't even think the entire indigenous community wants to change the flag. I think that's more of an conversation starter for some people to get to the issues they actually want changed. They want to be acknowledged as the first Australians, the flag is just a way of getting the topic discussed by the media to continue their arguments.
They want to national anthem changed where they say we are young and free to something other than young. Because we have some of the oldest signs of early humans.
They want the curriculum changed so that Australia didn't start the day that Cook got here.
They want Australia changed from Aus 26th. (It should be the 1st of January when we signed the constitution but that doesn't suit the holiday makers so they keep as the day Cook Arrived.)
This is the basic stuff that I seem to see people calmly discussing. The land stuff and other points I don't pay attention to.

The idea behind HECS is that Governments can't afford to offer free education which is simply not true.
With the introduction of HECS people are being suckered into paying for something they can't really afford much like financing on a car or any other asset that loses value over time.
Property / Houses in general are something that generally appreciates in value over time. But education in most cases has a limited life meaning the value of a degree declines over time.
For those able to afford to pay upfront the cost is much less [benefits of paying upfront, no interest] and the asset itself still has value once they own it outright due to it being fresh / new / relevant. For those that can't pay upfront not only do they pay more, by the time they make their last HECS payment the asset has essentially no value at all.
We can also look at Human Capital Theory [HCT] where studies have shown that anything beyond a basic undergraduate degree is a complete waste of time and money.
The only ones to really benefit are the charlatans offering the courses / degrees.

added to this point (which i totally agree with) but HECS is now causing the problem of Uni's just filling seats in courses with any bozo regardless of their entry score because the Uni gets the funding up front. They certainly dont care how Mr Mong is gonna pay off that sweet arts degree because he cant get a job and is in fact, a moron who shouldnt have been at Uni in the first place.
Hence devaluing the degrees that the kids who did actually qualify end up with.

Very true. There's also been a massive push to make courses more attractive to students such as flexible learning arrangements, removal of mathematical content, lowering the bar by making formal exams less important in the overall course assessment.
I can remember Intermediate Macro and Introductory Finance / Accounting having 70% failure rates in the 80's and 90's [Because exam was 80% or more of the assessment]. Students started avoiding the courses so they watered them down to make them passable for the marketing / business students that in general have very limited mathematical ability.
This essentially propped up enrollments in these courses from 60 or so to 500 plus.
With respect to accounting I recall they made it possible to actually avoid 100 level finance subjects at Newcastle by giving exemptions to people who completed a much easier course at TAFE. Eventually, the Uni course was watered down significantly to get back the students they were losing to TAFE.
Don't get me wrong, plenty of dumb khunts were enrolled in degrees long before HECS appeared - but it's definitely getting worse now that pretty much anyone can gain entry.
The real shit will hit the fan when PHd's can be purchased through a HECS type scheme [I'm a bit out of the loop here so it may already have happened].

i dont ever think we should be shutting down places like that, freedom of religion is a pretty sacred thing to a lot of citizens. but still maintain that Govts shouldnt be treating them any differently than businesses, and certainly not supporting them.
id like to think though, now that we are locking up sacred cows like the clergy, may as well go throw a few bad apples in remote communities in the clink as well if they are beating up women and kids. we might be on the verge of actually punishing the criminals in our society*, instead of 'blaming' society for individuals ills.

no. freedom of religion lets us believe who we want to believe and to live a life according to your particular rules.
thankfully though, the law of the land trumps any and all religious beliefs, so Pell had his judgement at the hands of a panel of his peers.
As of right now, he is a convicted criminal and should be jailed.
If, in the future the law of the land decides to rescind its decision, then good for him.
But George Pell is a paedophile, and should be treated as such. Yours, my, or anyone elses God cant reverse that, no matter how hard anyone wants to believe it.

There’s plenty of paedophiles in society that are not Christian. But they are taking a hit, because he’s quite high up in the Church. Same as NRL takes a hit each week because their players do the wrong thing.
If they found a lot of teachers doing inappropriate thing, the profession would be scrutinised.
Same goes for any group, demographic or occupation.
I think the continued cover up and reluctance of any person in power to do anything about it is a disgrace. That’s the bigger issue and that’s why the organisation is taking most of the hit imo. Things happen, that’s on the individual. When things are not dealt with and allowed to continue, that’s on the organisation.

No problem with anyone tried and convicted fairly getting their come uppance. But as far as I'm concerned that is the end of the story.
What irks me is the media play to heighten emotions and drag it out - the rabid scrums outside courts and endless questions that will not be answered, not to mention the tirades from members of the public who have nothing better to do than stand outside a courthouse and yell abuse. It is one of the reasons I no longer watch televised news.
Then there is the social media fallout and demand for more likes on an endless story to keep it in the public eye as long as possible.

I don't really know who she is so I don't really have an opinion on her. The name makes me think she was previously involved in politics, I feel like I've heard it somewhere.
Anyway I find the headline pretty funny, since my opinion would be the exact opposite - Labor are trash at politics but good at government. Majority of innovative and progressive/major policies I feel have come when Labor have been in government. Usually a bit rough around the edges, but the basis for really good, solid ideas are there.
Her "big policy" issues of border protection, national security (doesn't the government tell us these are essentially the same thing?) and "economic growth", I would also tend to disagree with pretty much everything the Libs have done on those issues in recent times.
So based on reading the article blurb, nah don't rate her.

when she first came on TV i enjoyed listening to her as she was very analytical in explaining the way Parliament and politics really work.
She was also the reason why so many MP's hated Tony Abbott which means that if she managed to rile up a bunch of elitist old white dudes then im all up on her side.
she always seems to be very comfortable speaking her mind, not just blabbing on a party line.
to be fair, now that she has her own show I dont watch as one can only imagine its a pretty watered down version of her true self.
would def like to see more of her type of personality on the floor of Parliament though, not these quota filling stooges that keep getting put forward (FFS yes im looking at you Alexander Downers daughter).

You do know she was with Nelson when he was leader, hubby moved her to Turnbull camp, then from Turnbull camp to Abbott camp - then gonskis when she completely failed to manage the Abbott show. Abbot was a puppet for the Christian Right - not Credlin.
Basically, she's an albatross - wherever she goes failure results. nelson failed, Turnbull failed, and Abbott failed - all when she was working for them.

yep, she argued for a huge reduction in immigration.
she loved using the term 'new zealand first', which as we all know, is soooooooooooooo much less racisty than 'make america great again'.
oh, and to get into power she had to do a deal with Winston Peters, and well, ill let you all go read up on him.

Social media has screwed the world over by giving idiots a platform to spread their idiocy and have it actually gain traction.
Free speech is fine and dandy, but some things are simply wrong, and you can't just say "Well that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, stop suppressing my freedom!" as a defense.
The world was a much better place when 99% of people didn't care about politics. Now the vast majority are polarized and have their blinkers on and shut out anything that doesn't suit their already entrenched (regardless of merit) views on things. Instead of being ignorant and apathetic, they are now ignorant and angrily shouting from the rooftops.
Shit is ****ed. I tend to not care too much about politics, because honestly if I take the time to think and care about it it just makes me too angry.

Idiots have found it easy to go online, find a group of people with a common interest and then they just pat each other on the back and justify any stupid thought that comes into their heads and onto a keyboard. (This forum is totally different)
But it means that everyone from Anti-Vaxxers, Racists, Furries, swingers, conspiracy theorists, etc have a safe place to convince each other that they are the normal ones and everyone else is wrong.
Fear is a terribly powerful emotion. Much more so than Love.

Free Speech is fine
Yes it gives the idiots a platform to spread their idiocy
That is why we have 73 different genders when thete is only actually 2
But it also gives everyone else the platform to criticise them
Free Speech is fine and dandy and everyone is entitled to it
More good comes out of freedom of speech in our society than the bad from freedom of speech
Freedom of speech actually allows all the opportunity to change their circumstances in life
There is also no such thing as hate speech in any way
It is speech. If you find it offensive this is irrelevant. Others dont and you dont get to personally define what is offensive
Problem is we have many lunatics out there in society are happy to hand over freedom to censor speech to a government
****ing idiots the lot of them. Fancy want to let a government led by ****wits like ScoMo or Abbott or Rudd or Turnbull or the soon to be PM Shorten the freedom to censor what ypu can say or think

well defamation laws may allow you to say whatever you want, but there are consequences for being loud wrong.
but back to something you mentioned earlier, and to be honest its baffled me this whole time.
the implication of Candace Owens in all this. everything I've ever heard from her has been pretty tame. she is def 'pro' African American, and Anti-Democrat, but is she 'Anti white Guy' or anything that would put her in the 'hate speech' category?

As for defemation laws
Who did Anning defame with his "Hate Speech "rants??
A religion at best as it wasnt an individual
He 1st up criticised Muslim immigration policies and then he went onto be critical of a religion that has 1400 years of history of conflict around the world.
Plenty disagree with his views
They are entitled to do so
If that is hate speech then you are bound to be holding everyone to account for anything said about Christians / Catholics after Pell got sent down
Just as you be bound to be holding everyone to account who makes criticism of Jewish people
As for Candace Owens she is a danger to the establishment because she is just the type to indocrinate the people with a little thing called common sense. She is one smart women and they hate that. She speaks so much common sense she is a threat as she likely to effect the Black vote to go to Trump as she calling out the Democratic Party for 50 years of failing to do anything for Black people but lead them into a hole
You can see how much the left have had a go at her they labelled her a Nazi as she was asked about an opinion on Nationalism and she used an example of Hitler to show Nationalism
How that makes a black women a Nazi because she used Hitler as an example to talk about Nationalism shows how much of a bunch of weak ****s the left are

No doubt it has to be true. If you tell lies you gonna get sued
If you want to get technical a lot of what Anning said is technically factually correct in his statements. There are some inflammatory generalisations in there sure but by and large his statements are not lies

Everyone has been pointing fingers at them, and 'the social medias' for not stopping this lunatic, and for letting hate breed on the Interwebs.
But they come up with what they believe to be measures that will help and everyone is like "Oh hell nawwww".

Politicians do as they are told - few of them throughout history have ever been the ones actually calling the shots.
The politicians that do call the shots we refer to as dictators.
The only exception I can think of in the last 50 years has been Whitlam. The Union movement hated him as did the conservatives and the majority of the Labour Party.
All the others have pretty much been puppets for the plutocrats.

You don't know anything about Cambridge member. Firstly, it consists of many different colleges - it's not a single campus as you seem to think.
Peterson requested a visiting Fellowship - it was never offered to him prior to his request to visit. People far more intelligent than Peterson have been refused Fellowships to Colleges of Cambridge - Augustus De Morgan, George Green... these blokes dropped turds with higher IQ's than Peterson.
It's only been in recent times that married men were allowed to accept fellowships from the majority of colleges at Cambridge - which you don't seem to know consists of many different colleges.
The major colleges of Cambridge such as Trinity, Gonville and Caius, Peterhouse, Kings, and so on have a long history of being religiously rigorous to say the least - and far from left wing.
In fact, the colleges of Cambridge were among the last in England to accept Dissenters - most of them instead taking up positions at University College in London.

What ideas member ? The conservatives haven't come up with anything new since Jeremy Bentham died - and most of his idea were bastardised from the old testament.
Also I might add, were it not for the left you wouldn't even have elections in the first place.
Conservatives fought long and hard to prevent the masses from voting by placing barriers based on race, gender, and socioeconomic status.
Economically the conservatives have a logically inconsistent rhetoric based upon the corn models used by David Ricardo and his followers in the first decade of the 19th Century. It's comical to say the least.

It's the Faculty of Divinity. In football terms it's essentially the u9 girls team that hasn't won a match for three seasons.
The facts are the only school considering offering him a visiting fellowship was one of the least influential, smallest, and generally piss poor.
You have made out like his application was rejected by one of the major schools which clearly is not the case. None of the major schools of any Cambridge college would even consider him - because he's not academically important. He never has been and he never will be.
Hence, why his key audience is uneducated mongs more so than academics or anyone of genuine influence.
Also, the reason Hitler's Mein Kampf exists in libraries of major universities is that it is culturally and historically significant.
If Peterson was historically or academically significant he'd be afforded the same treatment. At this point in time he's not in the race.

George W Bush is the only US President of the past 60 years I'd want to hang out with. Sure he made a few mistakes along the way but he's a bit of a character and would be
a lot of laughs.
Obama is little more than a used car salesman, Trump is just dead fcking boring and an absolutely horrible person no matter what angle you view him.

Nah thats the working left.
The new age left want men extinct and think that theyre football is elite. They want all jobs on a platter and cant tolerate being born a gender.

He goes after the unachievable, gets knocked back, blames someone else and the country stands still whilst nothing gets done. He can't be blamed for it going wrong of he doesn't do anything. Makes perfect sense for any publicity stunt that has gotten bigger than it should have, like this one has.
Trump has two positives.
One, he has finally gotten it through to the US people that they need to get out and vote more.
Two, it's finally common knowledge that the POTUS has little to no actual power to make things happen. He's a spokesperson and nothing more.

Because Americans don't like to look weak. They liked to think they had a tough all-powerful leader without all the bad stuff of a dictatorship. They want a Putin but still want to be able to finger each other's buttholes without being sent to the Gulag.
I just like to remind anyone that thinks he's doing a good job that he's a sham. He's an infomercial of a president. He said he was going to do so many things and has either not done them or done the exact opposite.

Obama was in charge when Sandy Hook happened. It is by far the biggest stain on his legacy and he should be eternally embarrassed and called out for quite possibly the most pissweak act of 'leadership' that country has seen in recent memory.
The man who told the world he was all about Hope and Change couldn't even convince the country to do something about a bunch of ****ing school kids getting slaughtered.
But yeah sorry, "orange man bad".

Are your trying to bring Obama down because he couldn't beat the NRA? Nice try mate, until you find anyone who can take them on to compare to you are pushing bullshit uphill. Obama did plenty of things wrong, not taking on the NRA wasn't one them.

And all those people saying he wouldn't survive one year, one month, before something bad happens to him were also wrong. Or that he would flick the trigger. Or whatever. I don't see the point in all the rage, particularly as you note he means nothing.
And it is worth noting he is absolutely NAILING being a politician - in that he expertly diverts attention to anything other than real issues. See the plebiscite in Australia for a recent eg of pure wizardry in this regard also.
And wrt Abbott and Australian PMs.. I have never seen a PM's name on my voting sheets.

It was Obamas job to protect his citizens. If he couldnt garner any support after 27 kids and teachers got slaughtered then to me thats ineffective leadership.
Also, onto this "NRA is all powerful and untouchable" narrative that keeps getting trotted out every time someone 'in charge' doesnt want to lead.
In the 2018 election cycle the NRA donated $35m to political parties (obvs overwhelmingly to Republicans).
Sheldon Adelson alone, ALONE, donated $125m, again, to republicans. Go look up his history in the courts. Plenty of stoushes with the law, and no one ever seems to consider him 'untouchable'.
Also, the top 10 individuals (your Bloombergs, Soros etc) donating money to the Democrats in the same cycle equalled about $250m.
You all sit there and say "oooohhhhhh the NRA brought off all the pollies" but their spend is a drop in the ocean compared to the rest.
There is also a huge difference between "lets go get thurrr guns" and "lets make the country safe". Obama went nowhere near it, again despite him doing all those cool speeches hes known for.
He was a very good talker, he was a brilliant salesman, he also presided over 27 kids and teaches getting shot up at their ****ing school and changed NOTHING. Sorry, but hes gotta wear that.
I aint saying hes the worst bloke in the history of the universe (that is Hutcho), but man oh man, the people who love caping up for the bloke have some selective memories.

What did he get right about the NBN?
His angle was that by the time the NBN (as it is now) was designed, funded, implemented* and was finished, that wireless technology would have overtaken it and that we should have at least invested more money into that then putting all the eggs in the NBN basket.
He also suggested that the NBN should be prioritised into the major cities for the users that needed the real benefits of it (schools, big business, universites, hospitals) where as the pollies in charge started it in a ****ing swinging electorate just to try and score come votes. Let 5g (and its successors) go to households and share the load.
*now, the implementation was the key word here. The idea of superfast internet is brilliant and sensible. But Abbott knew full well that the idea of ripping 500yr old cables out of every home/road/building in the country was going to be way more expensive and difficult that the NBN truthers let on. Again, the idea was great, the implementation was (and still is) horrific. The Govt bit off more than it could chew, and couldnt get the job done. He knew it, and wanted a rethink, but the great Turnbull disciples in the media and public wanted nothing of it, and forged ahead with a horrible plan.
Funny though, the NBN was what brought on the Turnbull/Abbott stink, then they chose the NBN and Turnbull. Both were garbage and they binned the one they could get rid of. and here we are with an incomplete NBN and the imminent arrival of Shorten as PM.

The media reported 'as fact' that there was collusion.
The media has been exposed as lying about the whole investigation.
The media is not supposed to lie about these things if they consider themselves the arbiters of truth justice and the american way.
They played themselves and were made to look stupid.
All along they should have just concentrated on his policy. Attack that all you want. Lord knows theres plenty of ammo there. But now the 2020 election is going to be about the media, and how dishonest they are. The public is gonna side with him over this, because he is right.

NRA has over 5 million paying members and millions more supporters. They have en entire TV/media network. They are as engrained in the US people as the Church.
ISIS is a bunch of terrorists in a war torn country making how to videos and using the US media against it.

the media has been reporting it as fact for years. they have cited 'sources' within the Govt and all major intelligence agencies. They all said there was collusion.
yet, no one can find any evidence, no one will speak on the record and the official govt report (that was being run by people who HATE Trump) said there was nothing.
If there was the slightest piece of truth in this, the media would fall over each other to break it.
the fact is there was nothing, there never was anything and the media have been made to look like fools.

So 5 million NRA members, that seems to leave about 320m Americans who arent members. Those 320m people arent worth at least trying to get on your side? ok then.
At their peak ISIS was making $3m per day from seized oil assets.

The big thing for me was the whole point of the original was that it was future proofed. Once it got taken to by Malcolm and Tony (I don't know who did what), that selling point is gone and its still something that will have to be upgraded once again. I don't yet have it myself so I don't even know if its any good. I know a lot of people complain who do have it that it still doesn't meet their needs, let alone into the future. (Not saying the original rollout would have gone flawlessly either).

yeah look im not any person to say whether one is 'better' than the other. it certainly seems like everyone is saying 5g and NBN should work in tandem before 6g arrives in 2030 and does the job properly. and yes, the Liberals idea of FTTN vs FTTP was half assed, i doubt anyone disputes this.
but was it more half assed than the totally pie in the sky forecasts that the original architects of the program quoted?
they seem to have been only 40-50 Billion out in their estimates (and thats inc the Liberal shortcuts). My only point is that Abbott said if we are gonna spend 90b, lets look at all the options. Turnbull said, "nah NBN or die and im right". I doubt you can say Turnbull got it right.
if they were in private enterprise they would have been fired and jailed for being so horrifically bad at their jobs. yet we 'seem' to be ok with it because the tap of govt revenue never seems to run out.

Obama put forward legislation for simple pre-purchase background checks, which is at least the bare minimum regulation that should be in effect... It was shot down by Congress. He and his party had built up a huge amount of support after his white house speeches for gun control, they then put forward a simple legislation change to help and even back ground checks couldn't make it through Congress??? Yet, it's all Obama's fault some **** stick shot 27 kids!! Your logic is immeasurable... (By logic I mean stupidity)
He did manage to pass a law so that people with mental health issues had to pass background checks before purchasing guns... But that was revoked by your mate Trump! Any excuses for that one?
Heck, got ANY facts to back up your stupidity on this one Plague? You sound like someone trying to justify water-boarding in Guantanamo Bay, "well even tho we didn't have proof that were terrorists, at least they didn't commit any bombings whilst we were water-boarding them?"
