Before the match Garcia was going to start from the bench to ensure he was fresh for the Jets clash. He didn't even make the bench. Anyone know if he is carrying an injury or just realised that the Gypo's is the worst signing he has ever made and he is too embarrassed to ever be seen in their kit again?

I propose we offer the member $200/week and he can make up the difference writing for the local rag.

Worst thing we can do is go into this game over-confident and complacent just because up to four players could be out. We need to just worry about our own game and go into thinking that the Mariners are going to put up one hell of a fight for 90 minutes. We need to be committed, aggressive and ruthless and treat this like a real derby.
This is an example of the mentality the players need to carry into the game from the words of Tim Cahill about the Everton/Liverpool Derby.....
"Throughout my time with Everton, I learned that the derby is almost always won with that very first tackle. Who's going to put in the first heavy-hitting challenge? Who's going to kick someone into the air to get our crowd fired up and passions soaring? And yes, put some fear into the heart of the Reds.
I saw Gerrard do it to us all the time. Even before I played in a derby, I watched clips where he'd go out, right after the opening whistle and munch everyone he could get near wearing an Everton shirt.
When you're on the pitch, living in the heat of those moments, you don't realise how intense it looks. You go flying into challenges, fearless-borderline red-card stuff-but if you get your boot to the ball and not the other man's leg, it's clean, and the crowd will go wild for it."

KEY FACTS:

General

Newcastle have only won once in Gosford, back in Season 3. It was a 2-1 win with goals scored by James Holland and Joel Griffiths.
The Jets are winless in the last 12 derbies. However, the last 3 have been drawn results.
By game day, it will be 2969 days since the Jets last won in Gosford.
There has only been one penalty awarded in the derby at Gosford. That penalty was for the Mariners, taken by Troy Hearfield and saved by Ben Kennedy.
The match will occur 4 days after the 8 year anniversary of the Jet's Grand Final win over the Mariners.

Players

Jason Hoffman is the only remaining player in the squad who made an appearance in the Jets only win in Gosford.
Morten Nordstrand became the 62nd player to score for the Jets.
Enver Alivodic has provided 2 assists in 2 weeks.
Alivodic is also the only Jets player to have appeared in every match this season. It will be his 30th consecutive appearance for the club.
Mark Birighitti is the only Jets keeper to have kept a clean sheet in Gosford.

Newcastle Jets

The Jets are winless in their last 6 away matches.
Since the Jets won away in Gosford in Season 3, they have scored only 3 goals in 11 matches on the Coast.
Those 3 players are Song Jin-Hyung, Labinot Haliti and Joel Griffiths.
The Jets have the opportunity to go 4 games undefeated, the first time since November 2013.
In the month of February, the Jets have only lost one match in the last 2 years.

Central Coast Mariners

The Mariners will be missing 7 (possibly 8) of the 13 players who appeared in the Round 6 clash at Hunter Stadium.
The Mariners have scored the first goal in the last 3 derbies at Gosford.

that's what has me concerned.

The last time I thought we had a realistic chance of winning down there was for the return of Griff. Then Birighitti spilt one between his legs in the first minute and we were done.

How I see us taking the 3 points is firstly we need to control the match like we did for most of last week. Secondly taking advantage of the inexperience of the young players and the old legs of Josh Rose. Finally we need to actually shut a game down and not have the opposition dominating us in the final stages despite leading or being a man up.

I really want to see how Miller sends the team out. We need to take the ascendency and rattle them.

Rocknerd
23-02-2016, 01:54 PM
We have nothing to worry about, as long as we're 5-0 up at the 90th minute. I don't want any of this giving them a point or throwing away points at the death as we so often do.

Monty Python predicted trouble in Gosford and Syria...

Tonight's show comes live from the tiny village of Rabid in Buckinghamshire, and our first question tonight is from a Mrs Elizabeth Scrint who says she is going on a Mediterranean cruise next week and can't find anything wrong with the Syrians. Well, Mrs Scrint, apart from being totally unprincipled left-wing troublemakers, the Syrians are also born skivers, they're dirty, smelly and untrustworthy, and, of course, they're friends of the awful Gypos! Be careful...got family tix in Melbourne last year. Passed them around not noticing they were still adult and kids. Scanned a kids ticket...somehow security knew and jumped me immediately. Quick explanation with family nearby got me off...if I was alone I would have been refused entry.

You do realise the fans are up for the derby right up to KO??

Then our heroes do the usual capitulate to a lesser opponent and what could have been a glorious day sees us all go limp and watching on as another derby passes by with these spineless ****s disappointing and then all staggering back to the train station staring at the ground contemplating how shit these ****s are and that they don't deserve our support.

See you on the walk of shame AGAIN about 7 pm

Be nice for a change to leave that shit hole behind with the head up giving the Gypo scum the spraying they deserve with our blokes having backed us up on the fulltime score.

Can at least dream until Millers team let us down.

I get all the pessimism after years of capitulation. The lowest point for me was attending the major semi 2nd leg in gypotown 08. 4 hours of driving to be spanked 3-0 and 4 hours home. Was somewhat tempered by raising the hopes of gypos everywhere to then pants them in the GF.

However, this year I genuinely beleive we will put them to the sword. They push forward and leave gaping holes at the back while we play a counter attacking game. Therefore this is a great match up for us. We have broken the shackles on scoring recently with the addition of a couple of classy players plus their attacking threats are out.

The gypos are ripe for pillaging and long streaks are there to be broken. As long as the desire to win is there we will be hard to beat

The advantage not being played was bad but the poljak yellow was probably the worst decision I've seen a referee make in a long time. Luckily it wasn't match changing but I don't understand what he saw?

Also there was an incredibly blatant handball 3m away from him directly in front, what was he looking at?

Very un-Newcastle to get away with a win there! Played bad, ref was shit and against us, against those scummy gypos and we got 3 points.

Was at the game today, good to see the jets get with win.

Only thing I was dissapointed with was the fact that I saw three jets fans pissed getting detained by police and playing the victim. From what i heard was that they were near bay 16 (Yellow Army) when they were nabbed.

I know is a derby, I understand its a big game but why go to the trouble of causing a ruckess down in their bay? Its an away game take a bit of banter and have a laugh Its not like we're ultras in Russia.

Seen replays of the Poljak yellow and agree....disgraceful decision. Poljak gets to the ball half a metre in front of the Gypo, the Gypo actually slides in and collects Mateo but injures himself in the process. Then Williams gives Mateo the yellow...and this bloke is supposed to be the best ref in the country:angry:
Clear case for a penalty too. Just had that feeling in the last 10 or so that we were going to somehow get screwed over by Williams. Luckily enough we didn't give him one sniff of a chance to give them a penalty or anything and we prevailed in the end.

I did an interview for the podcast with a Mariners fan and he said the same thing about Williams' performance. It's obviously a common theme.

As for the match - it's fantastic to have won down there! Winning down there was one of the points many of us demanded from this season because we realistically thought we couldn't make a push for the finals. Well the team delivered! While the result was great, I wouldn't say as much about the performance. I expect there will be some practice in the front third this week.

But anyway, we WON!!! Not every win is pretty so let's soak it up and back up again in a few week's time when we pay another visit.

Finally...the passion the players showed out there today was refreshing. Birraz, Mullen and Hoff at the whistle all ran straight over to the fans. That's what we want to see. The boys also having each other's back when some ugly challenges went in.

Cowburn was my man of the match

Also, McGing is a hack. That's the second match in a row he's gone through Leonardo and received a booking/red. Can see our vitriol being directed at him in forthcoming derbys.

But still feels so great to finally win down there.

Nobby was pretty useless.

Leo is too good for our team.

Alivodic was pretty useless.

There were roughly 17 state league quality players out there yesterday mixed in with 5 or so actual HAL footballers.

That was the smallest I've seen the home bay ever.

Didn't realise til yesterday how big the gap is between CCM and every other team. What are they, 14 points behind 2nd last? So great. So, so great.

Leo was class at times, but god damn did he give the ball away a lot and lose it in possession.. So frustrating.. His tracking back and chasing when he lost the ball was Carney-esque.. Not to mention his froth-ups..
I'm usually a Milos fan, but he seemed half asleep and uninterested..
Cowburn was amazing, there was one tackle he did in the last 15 (i think they had pinched it off him and were 3 on 2) and he sprinted back to make a sliding tackle in the box that was sublime, I was rigid.. In fact, I think our entire back line was quite solid all game..
Alivodic had another of his off games.. Take a fvcken shot!!!! (without scuffing it wide, haha)
Nordstrand was still great on the ball, although I was hoping for a bit more of his 1st half shots.. Still, he is a legend..
Stevie U-G has put himself into Newy Legend folklore already just for that goal.. Great to see JP getting him in a headlock at the end, giving him a noogie and pointing to the crowd to show him what it meant to us..

So great to see Hoff, Birraz and Mullen come running straight over when the full time whistle was blown, I thought Mullen was going to blow an o-ring with how hard he was thrusting and fist-pumping.. The blokes loved it..
Also, the second we scored, Hoff turned around and ran closer to the away support giving the massive ones too.. Thats the sort of passion and feeling we want to see!!

Stealing all my words from the hide home mate. How rude! :P

Loved getting my first Jets win in over a year and to do it Away to the scum. Oh the feels.

The last 5+ minutes of extra time, I couldn't handle it, I felt like a boy on Christmas morning, except not knowing if you'd get to open the presents sitting right in front of you or not.

This is the only match of the year, where I don't judge the players performance, as the only thing that fking matters is 3 points and a never die attitude. Yesterday, they gave both. Hoff, Mullen and Birra, fkn newy legends. The emotion shown from them at fulltime gives me goosebumps, still.

The drive home, amazing.

Roundball Enthusiast and I got a lift back to Newy from a Mariners fan.. The bloke was pretty damn silent the whole drive home.. Great times..

Nawwww....that just warms the little cockles of my heart.
AND ABOUT FECKEN TIME TOO!

best part I think is that the gyppo faithfully truly believed they had this game wrapped up weeks ago when they played us here, saw plenty of comments online talking about points already in the bank etc - shattering that confidence that they had a win lined up before a ball was kicked, how's it feel to be scumsucking bottomfeeders, coasties?

Yeah...and we finally stuck an unwanted record somewhere else for a change...i.e. where it belongs.
23 games now with no clean sheets...and longer will it continue.
Next 6 games = sCCuM v Victree (H), v Perf (A), Sh!they(H), the 2 away: Adelaide n Wankerers....
All we need to do is put the nails in the coffin come Saturday, April 9th.
And those nails could very well be goals that see them get another record: worst defence of any A-League campaign.

they showed a goal trajectory last night in the pre-game. if they keep on conceding at the same rate they will concede about 70 goals, 10 more than NQ Fury did.

god I hope it comes true.

The way they are going through players they might have to forfeit the final round.
