Draw tomorrow. Perth at home, loss to get the season started off well?

The 32 clubs who have qualified for the Westfield FFA Cup 2016 Final Rounds will learn their Cup fate when the Round of 32 draw is conducted this Thursday (30 June) at FOX SPORTS in Sydney.

South Australian club MetroStars, which includes former Adelaide United stars Travis Dodd, Fabian Babiero and Adam van Dommele, became the final side to qualify for the Round of 32 courtesy of a 1-0 win over Adelaide Comets on Saturday night, the result confirming the 22 Member Federation clubs that will go into Thursday’s draw along with the ten Hyundai A-League clubs.

The draw, to be hosted by FOX SPORTS football personality Michael Zappone and conducted by former Socceroos captain Paul Wade and Chief Operating Officer of Scentre Group Greg Miles, will be shown LIVE from 3pm on Fox Sports News (Channel 500) and streamed online at www.foxsports.com.au and www.theffacup.com.au.

This year’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 draw will see the Hyundai A-League clubs placed into one pot (Pot A) and the Member Federation clubs placed into another pot (Pot B).

The balls will be pulled out of the pots in the respective order to firstly determine the three (3) all Hyundai A-League club matches and nine (9) all Member Federation club matches before the intriguing four (4) Member Federation club v Hyundai A-League club matches. This year’s list of entrants comprises 11 clubs making their first appearance in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 – Bonnyrigg White Eagles (NSW), Canberra Olympic (ACT), Cockburn City (WA), Devonport Strikers (TAS), Floreat Athena (WA), Green Gully (VIC), Lambton Jaffas (Northern NSW), Marconi Stallions (NSW), Redlands United (QLD), Rovers Darwin FC (NT) and Surfers Paradise Apollo (QLD). The 16 matches in the Round of 32 will be held over three weeks with four matches per night across four match nights beginning in the last week of July. FOX SPORTS will show 11 matches LIVE (one match per match night) while providing coverage and updates as well as LIVE streaming of all non-broadcast matches. Details regarding the FOX SPORTS broadcast and streaming will be announced closer to the start of the Round of 32.

I just hope for a home draw. I don't know if it's an advantage getting a non-A-League team. They're playing and halfway through their season and will have match fitness and sharpness. The Jets will be at worst a month into their pre-season.

I want us to take it seriously, not as a pre-season hit out, and have all available players on board (Last year we didn't have Enver). We did that last year so I've no reason to think Miller won't again.

Have they changed the set up??

The last 2 years teams who finished in the Top 4 got a non HAL side in Rd 1 and the teams who finished 5-10 got drawn against each other.

I was under the impression we could only play Mariners Smurfs Nix Glory or Victree in this round.

We can't get WAnkers Roar Pissants or Heart and the non league teams until next round assuming we win a game

To me the system is shit

It should be random. NPL clubs are a long shot at drawing a HAL side. Rather ridiculous Jaffas reward could be a trip to Tasmania when I am sure they would rather a game against any HAL side

It has changed but not random.

There is now 2 pots - HAL teams and Member Federation teams

First 6 HAL teams drawn will play all A League games - 3 matches

First 18 Member Federation teams drawn will play all non league games - 9 matches

Leaves 4 A league vs Non League matches

No **** that play all our games there

Playing games in NNSW and taking them away from rank and file supporters to cater for a bunch of hill Billie's who live 400km away from Newy is a great idea according to some people

Yes...

Do you know it's chopped up?

If West Newcastle is the arse of Newy, then what does that make Broadmedow?

It's going to be midweek wherever it is played.

Yes putting money into Council coffers and possibly Rugby, please tell me how that's any different to a regular home game where we put money into State Government and West Leagues Club coffers?

I would like to see how the venue and location would cope with a decent size crowd and see if it's feasible to upgrade the capacity and move there permanently.

Touching on a subject that been discussed before on here. Various studies have shown playing in the heart of a CBD is better for crowds and match day experience. I would much rather like to see us long term playing in the CBD rather than a inner city suburb.

For a start West Newcastle is the arse end of Newy
Broadmeadow is much more centralised

As for playing in a CBD making a better experience then this is OK if you have public transport which we don't
It is also useful if you have a decent city centre which we don't

As for the playing surface. A game played in the depths of winter in Newy played on a field by a sport which chops the field up significantly with all the rucks mauls scrums etc you don't need to even go look at it to know it will be in much inferior condition than required

Now let's just acknowledge we have had a good run with rain in recent weeks in Newy.
Those rugby boys get some rain like today or a bit heavier then they are going to make a mess of it for us. Magic park on the other hand will not get destroyed as much by playing in the wet

Will all be moot when the new Maitland Sportsground is finished.

When funding was announced late last year, council said that the 1100 seat stand would make it "capable of hosting A-League soccer games"!

That said, what about Cessnock - Asian Cup stuff was brilliant out there and we had a preseason game against Adelaide a few years ago.

Doing a bit of research to chat with Jaffas for the podcast tonight. They have a tough draw against Devonport!

They're top of the NPL Tasmania and have lost once all season at home. They've only conceded 6 goals at home all season and have scored 16-0 in their last 4 matches!!

While it's no indication of the league's strength, there is no doubting they are on form.

Shit keeping? So now keepers need to stay on their line in case they get chopped from 70m?

He's out of his box to close the space between his fence and himself, to stop Blacktown playing a ball over the top. It's incredibly hard to judge the flight of the ball from that distance, and it looks to be off target tbh, until it spins off the fake grass.

Take nothing away form the goal by claiming its shit keeping.

Grimario
28-07-2016, 01:19 PM
Of course he is out of his box to close the space but he's either far too far out or his reaction time was awful. No denying it's a great hit but you can't defend being beaten from 70m.

Serious question.

Why the **** can't Foxtel put all games on the ****ing red button Like they did with the EPL

Quite frankly I would rather keep an eye on other games than the Gypos unless they are losing then I be cheering Green Gully every kick of the way

It would make it easier but you can still watch any of the games live on Foxsports website! Pretty sure you don't even need to be a Foxtel subscriber to watch too!

They have commentators at the grounds and cameras

I can't imagine with the complete lack of demand from rival TV companies there would be any greater costs putting all games on.

Right now I watching the Bentleigh V Metrostars game in ET on Foxtel as they have now crossed FT to it as it is the only game still going

I have been watching a lot of these games this year and i know it was spoken about last week but the condition of the pitch at Magic Park was well below par compared to other NPL teams around. Obviously conditions were not excellent and if it was an NPL match it probably would have been called off but I'm talking before kick off, the pitch looked patchy from the start. Why are our fields below par, is it that we just don't have the $$$ in Newcastle to improve or maintain the facilities?

I should add, absolutely no disrespect to Magic as a club, you guys always put on a great show when holding events.

I wonder how long before Fornaroli gets the shits because he's the star player of the team and yet Timmy's probably making five times as much as him for a lot less effort.

I'll come in early and suggest they don't win the comp. and have a change of manager before Xmas.

I will agree they won't win it at this stage

I just can't see how Timmy and Fornaroli work as a pair.
Tim likes it in the air Bruno on the ground.

Other issue for me with them is they are filling their squad with shit ****s. Rose Fitzgerald Caceres . All of them were not good enough at the worst team last year and are now starting players at Heart

I think the loss of Mooy and Novillo are big issues for them

Every other federation in the world has cheap tickets for cup ties as the demand ain't there
