I'm normally a mild-mannered and welcoming chap but, seriously, get the feck out of my club (sort of mine, anyway).

I stopped supporting Victory long ago (sort of long) and don't want its dregs following me.

PS More cardio, less weights. And definitely more football.

So a striker gets released because he gets no assists but another one gets released because he has all of the assists it's almost like assists don't really matter but anyway how's Friday going you guys I'm feeling good might go get some icecream.

Former Negeri Sembilan winger Andrew Nabbout has joined A-League side Newcastle Jets, reported the Australian edition of Goal today.

According to the report, the 23-year old Australian, who had been released by the Premier League side during the recent June transfer window, has signed a two-year deal with the Jets, after passing a trial.

Jets' head coach Scott Miller said that Nabbout's signing will provide his side with more versatility; “His [Nabbout’s] ability to play numerous positions in the final third is attractive, and his addition will provide the coaching staff with flexibility in regards to our systems and styles of play.”

"I have a point to prove [in the A-League] and I want to repay the faith that Scott has put in me," the report quoted him as saying regarding his signing.

Nabbout had joined Negeri at the start of the 2016 season along with Australian coach Gary Phillips and Australian footballers Joel Chianese and Taylor Regan. He had previously played for another A-League side, Melbourne Victory from 2012 to 2015, scoring five goals for them in 37 matches.

Despite leading the second division as its top goalscorer and in assists, Nabbout found himself cut by the Deers in June, along with Chianese.

Nabbout's new side, Newcastle Jets finished the most recent A-League season in the eighth place. After the winger's departure, Negeri have lost two back-to-back matches.

Just last week, another Australian who had been released by a Malaysian side in the June window; ex-Selangor center back Robert Cornthwaite, made his return to the A-League, by joining former AFC Champions League Western Sydney Wanderers.

2 things from the weekend.

1. His goal got #1 on ESPN FC top 10 goals of the week. Which was a pretty cool thing seeing an American show get just as excited over the goal.

2. (and I dont want anyone to get in any trouble over this) but through contacts up high in the club Nabbout went into a ladys work (she is massive Jets fan and massive Nabbout fan) to wish her a happy birthday and signed some stuff for her and spent some time with the other members of the company.

Everyone at the place was blown away at his kindness and genuine humility. It was also made perfectly clear that it was not an official club thing and he was doing some people a favour and he was never under any obligation.

Bloke sounds like a proper ledge, and yes, hes got a ways to go before he gets on the Jets Mt Rushmore but good on him, and im stoked hes getting these accolades.

Would be ace to get him on the plane to Russia instead of hacks like Cahill and Leckie.

The substitution to me could have been a farewell, but just as easily was merited based on what a game he'd had, scoring the (presumably) winning goal and the standing ovation he was receiving as he walked off.
How slow he was getting off the field was I think a combination of making the most of using up time but also the fact he'd been gassed for 15 minutes after doing the pressing of 3 men for the whole game.

Absolutely huge lost i agree, but for once i am not as disappointed with losing him because of all the players we still have at the club and the ones coming back from injury and there ability. one big thing that i will miss is the passion and pride he had in the shirt and the club. personally think for professional footballers these days its one thing that is not always there

Getting 500k for andy is a good way to make up for it and we actually have got the players to make up for his loss.

Hopefully the transfer money can be put to good use, whether directly on the pitch in the retaining on someone like Mcgree or Pato (not sure if the 500k can go towards cap space or only marquees) or to improving back staff to have even better strenth and conditioning like the apparently perfect one in place at Sydney

My only worry is that we will see him back in Aus in a years time, in a fvcking sky blue shirt, ala every other ex Jets player thats gone OS in search of greener fields

So this if his agent is also Arnie's agent. The plan will be there - they got Nicky even though he said he would play nowhere except Newcastle, and rumour has it they tapped up Griff too.

We'd be wasting his time even making an offer.

We can't afford him, we have no cap space, and we don't have a vacant marquee spot available for him. Unless Dimi, Roy, or Boogaard are moved on it's not possible to sign Nabbout.

Even if we got rid of Ridenton, Jair, and Jackson, Vujica, Koutroumbis - I still don't think we'd make up enough space.

The only option we'd have [if money was available] - would be to get him as an injury replacement for the remainder of the season - we just need to injure someone.

Forget useless terms like marquee. You could count the number of real " Marquee " players the league has had on one hand. The league and clubs use it to place players wages outside the cap ( 2 )

My understanding is Roy's wages are inside the cap and Vargas's are outside the cap meaning we could still sign another player to big $$$$$ call it a marquee signing for the purposes of not going over the salary cap.

So yes technically i think we could go after Nabs just a matter of Martin Lee feeling inclined to come up with the money.

I am sure Lawrie in the past has confirmed Roy is a in the cap player.

I am sure Lawrie in the past has confirmed Roy is a in the cap player.

In Jerkstream podcast interviews, in the same season Lawrie confirmed Roy was a marquee outside the cap as well as in the cap, he contradicted himself in the same season. So Roy could be either. Lee would want as many non-marquees as possible, it makes way more financial sense to have everyone under the cap because of how the player wages are funded with the TV deals etc.

pv4

Roy is on marquee-level wages as is, whether he is currently under the cap or not.

Good player but we could find better value for money elsewhere, particularly considering cost per appearance Roy is on.

Macca

FFA just announced a new rule that if a team wins the league but fails to make the GF then they can sign a player outside the cap as long as he has been in theJ-League the previous season and has dark hair.

Surely with Vargas contract coming to an and if the club felt inclined it could make a" back end " offer to secure him. Happens in other codes all the time.

If both the club and Nabs really wanted to make it happen using that method they could very well do that. Comes down to if the club felt nabs is worth a comparative offer or if Nabs feels he has become to special for this club and would feel more at home at Melb City with all the wanna be show ponies who think pulling on a light blue city top in Australia somehow makes them extra extra special.

Nabbout is desperate to keep his fitness levels up ahead of his expected call-up for the Caltex Socceroos for next month’s AFC Asian Cup in the UAE.

“It was ideal for me, and I’m grateful to Ernie and the staff for allowing me to come back and join in for a few sessions,” Nabbout told the Newcastle Jets website.

“They gave me the option to come to Newy, and they didn’t have to ask me twice.

“It does [feel like home], to me and my wife [Sam],” Nabbout added.

“When I told her we can come back to Newcastle, she said, “Yep, book me a flight, I’m coming with you. It’s a really good town, and I automatically feel relaxed here.”

Despite leaving the Jets in March, Nabbout has been keeping a close eye on how his former club has been travelling in the Hyundai A-League this season.

“I watch the game every week. I wish I had a pair of boots on Sunday to jump on,” Nabbout said.

“The boys are doing well, they played really well against Perth and it was unfortunate at times, that that’s the way the game goes. You play really well, but the ball doesn’t go in.

“It just takes one or two games on a roll to really click into gear, and I’m sure Ernie will get the boys doing that.”

So what about a potential return to the Hunter club one day?

“I told Lawrie [Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna] that if I come back to the A-League, it’s his door that I’m going to be knocking on first,” Nabbout said.

“Newcastle is a home to me, they gave me an opportunity to come back and a platform to succeed. I gave Lawrie my word that if the time was right, I was ready to come back, I’d be more than happy to come back here.”

Nailed on next Sydney signing.

That’s my thoughts too with all the agent stuff.
Yes the agent is a bit jerky with most negotiations trying to get the best deal “for their client” but at the end of the day, the player surely has some say.

Agent: “I’m trying to get your current club to increase your salary or term but they aren’t budging. We can get xxx terms at Sydney since they don’t have a salary cap”

Player: “hmmm, you know what, I’m happy with those terms to stay put”

To be fair. You play professional football for 10-15 years of you are lucky. May as well make the most of it. More
Importantly though, I think you need to think of the contract after, it’s all well and good to go and collect a pay check in the a league, but if you dont improve, get game time, have success, you may not be as appealing next time around.

I read that Sage told him and Atkinson that they were free to cancel the moves because the club doesn't have the money. Basically, since the current playing squad won't agree to a paycut, he won't add any new wages to the squad.

Probably a smart move from Sage right now. If the players won't accept a pay cut, which is pretty arrogant considering the alternative, I can see a lot of clubs cutting their squads to bare minimum numbers just to stay afloat.
