TALKING POINTS:
Memorable Match - 3/3/2012. Round 22, Season 2011/12
The Jets were on a good run in 2012, having lost only once in 6 matches. Facing a Victory team boasting Harry Kewell, the Jets struck after 20 minutes through Ryan Griffiths. Kewell converted a controversial penalty on 24 minutes before youngster Jacob Pepper popped up and scored a double in 9 minutes before half time to give the Jets a 3-1 lead. This would be the final score and continue the Jets mid-season revival and run to the finals.
General
The Jets lost 3-1 to Victory in the Round of 32 in this year's FFA Cup
The Jets have not beaten the Victory in the last 3 fixtures, and didn't score in 2 of those matches
Newcastle Jets
The Jets have never won a game played on a Monday night on 9 previous occasions
The Jets are currently undefeated in 3 matches
Melbourne Victory
Marcos Rojas has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in his last 3 appearances against the Jets.
Victory have won all of their previous 8 fixtures played on a Monday night
This game is being played in Geelong on a Monday night. No one knows why.

Giant game that will determine the club's future.
Victory 1-3 Jets.
Some Victory fans will boo Nabbout. Other Victory fans will boo those who are booing Nabbout, and will counter the booing by applauding Nabbout loudly. It will be very confusing, and difficult for the television audience to grasp the nuances of the situation.
The controversy will be worsened by Broxham taking out Nabbout in a very ugly tackle. Yellow card at least; hopefully a red.
Nabbout will go on to score a brace. Sugar or Brown will knock in the other, which will be a ripper from outside the box, assisted by a deflection.

Jets to play well but squander a heap of good chances. Victory to get some shit goals off mistakes or poor defense from us.

Jets 2 - 1 Victory
Us to probably concede early in the game to bring out usual commentator dialect. Jets to storm home with nordstrand and Hoole to put one each in the back of the net.
Will be a thoroughly entertaining game with muscat to put blame on his players rather than his own ineptness.

The navy blues had a regulation 4-1 win over Central Coast in hot and steamy conditions in Melbourne on Wednesday night and will expect to pick up another three points when they host Newcastle Jets in Geelong on Monday.
They are expecting a walk over, so if we don't take that seriously we could be in deep sh*t on a hiding to nothing...

Rojas got onside right when it mattered.
Penalty was harsh but it looked clear cut to me.
Yeah ref not so good
Two biggest decisions he ping Hoole for handball when he away and has Brixham 1/1 when it hit his arse
Then he pings us for cheating the ball in the box
Why these blokes are losers is they took this decision laying down
Half our bench should have been sent to the stands
Half our team should have been booked
But no we ****ing wear it up the arse.
Even at HT our coaching staff should have been in that ****s ear about owing us a couple of ****ing square ups

Was playing to a good game plan until the decision ruined their mentality. Lost their shape and now almost out of it. Really lacking a creative no 10 and need a shitload more from nordstrand. If they get the mentality right in this team with 3/4 quality players we will compete in the 6. Until then I can only see us scraping in barely. Hoole has been one of our best tonight. I've been one of his biggest critics so kudos to him. Katroumbis is showing once again he is quality.

Agree to a point. Nordstrand not getting much opportunity so I think you might be being a bit harsh.
No penalty but can see why Beath called it from that angle. Best view was had by the linesman and he did sweet FA.
Second goal. Rojas was behind the ball when crossed. He was offside before that but the fwd movement of Triosi played him back in.
Victory very good at applying the bliw torch after they score. They did so today and we melted and conceded another.
Move Nordstand to 10 and get Kokko on the field. Probably take Poljak off or Nabbout or Hoole

We're getting railed like we always do against half-decent teams. Where is Clut tonight? Wtf is with this defensive set-up? Why is old man Nordstrand starting and chasing long balls over the top? Totally disagree. For once I feel like we are a chance against bigger teams. We attack and look to score whilst keeping pretty sound at the back. Take out the past 10 mins of this game. Clut is a work in progress. You are playing victory in Geelong do you really think ya gonna go out and boss the **** outta the game? Of course you set up defensively. Victory will play a high line. Long balls will stretch the defence and give room for wide men and brown to play in behind. They have not done this every time just every so often to stretch and keep defence guessing. We've kept the ball better since. I'm not kidding myself I don't think he's a world beating coach ffs I just don't get the shit dumped on him when he's got a squad that is probably 7/8th best team in the league. And blaming him for individual errors. The coach sets the team up and sends them out with a game plan. We've played to it by my guess around 50% of this game and we've been the better side during this time. The other half we have been outclassed and gone to water. This is up to the players to learn from and grow as they gain experience
Come of the Tards hand too

Was still frustrated how long it took Jones to bring Ma and Kokko on, but at least they both got more than 5min for a change, that has to go down as a positive. Still can't understand why we are so keen to sign weak ankles when what we really could do with is a decent attacking mid, I really can't see how wankles would have made a difference in a game like that, yet someone like Troisi on our side would have given us another option rather than Hoole killing off chance after chance going nowhere down the wing without being able to get it in to anyone

No, criticising Hoole even when he plays well is when you'll be seen as a fake fan. Wasn't his best game but still outperformed Nabbout and Nordstrand among others.
Not worry about criticising Hoole.
We bag him enough here and his player agent will appear here to defend his selection in the team like he did on Facebook
On that note two things that stood out last night.
1 Leigh Broxham is a shit player. Even being played out of position he had Hoole in his pocket last night
2 No one slipped over all night except for Hoole when he got the ball in the box and in prime position to score
Can his agent explain why these things happened??

If this was a Matchday Saturday game with the Fox Panel and it was SFC or Victory or City copping those decisions Bozza would have ensured Beath was hauled before the cameras to explain himself.
Don't know why we want a second division - there are already two divisions in the league, just expand the bottom one and leave Sydney and Melbourne to fill the top league.

We have one of the best up and coming #10's in the HAL. Jones didn't even select in the squad and plays him at 9 when in the team.

Result aside the performance was pretty decent. We got screwed by the handball call which gave them a couple of goals and dominance for the last 15 of the first half. Prior to that and at many stages in the second half we looked quite comfortable on the ball and held on to it better than they did. Not a lot of end product still, in a lot of cases a final pass or composure from the final player would be getting us a lot of chances. I still think on another night we would be a great chance of a result out of that game. As the commentators mentioned, that pen really did change the game.
Nordstrand struggled a bit starting, I think he has earned another shot with recent performances but possibly he will do his best work coming on for the last half hour with tired defenders around him. Alternatively I think he is definitely a better second striker than a lone striker, with Kokko coming back in perhaps a system change could be in order. Koutroumbis and Vujica performing well again, and Cowburn actually did quite well I thought when he came on. Perhaps a bit of time out of the team gave him something to prove. CMs all played pretty well. Maybe missing a bit of ingenuity in the final third from one of them but better performances from the strikers or wingers can alleviate that pressure off them.
Not sure what the go is with Clut, he was pretty ineffective last week but had been one of our best for the few weeks before that. I find it hard to believe he was dropped from the squad entirely for one off performance. Maybe a niggle? I feel like Kokko with some more game time is going to do good things with any good service he gets (ground or aerial) in the box, he strikes me as a pretty good finisher, and you can see he has had some good headed attempts from difficult positions.
Plenty of doom and gloom in the thread but how many were expecting that we should win that game? I'd much rather lose the way we did with some poor luck and a confident performance than a 1-0 loss with 10 men behind the ball all game and 10+ saves from the keeper.

It's a fact. Just like Jones has no idea what he is doing. Swaps and changes his front players every week depending on last weeks results with no real plan. Then wonders why we struggle for combinations.
Neither Clut or Nordstrand are 9's. Both can do a job but eventually the opposition will work them out and isolate them. The only 9's in the squad Jones won't play.

Our 9 has been out. You want him to play with a broken jaw now?
He is on record saying he wants to get a bridge type player or another striker.
Considering the level of resources available, at the current time (There is talk that the jets have made some off field facility adjustments or soon to be made adjustments), he did a far better job in the tactical stakes than muscat did last night. They have Rojas, berisha, fbk.. not sure what their wages would be.. but that was the difference last night. End of.
We played good football. On another day we would should have won.
Its no secret that I'm a Jones hater.. I can't really fault him for what went on last night though.. (Apart from the disappearance of Clut??)..
What I can't handle is the blatant bullsh!t refereeing and biased decisions going on, where if that happened against your big teams Sydney/Vic/City, questions would be asked (Or Devonhead Muskat would have blown an O-Ring)..
Yet another game ruined by poor referees decisions at important times..

Interesting reading on the West Ham forums this morning, a huge backlash against Mike Dean and perceived subconscious bias by referees in favour of the big clubs....the major reason is "fear" by refs. A big decision against a small club only hangs around 24 hours, whereas a call against a big club hangs around all season.

Guessing you have absolutely no experience with recovery or rehab from a jaw injury.
He took brymora, a kid, over to Perth. Now, in your eyes, he is meant to start over the players who have played in 'his' role?
Haliti. Unfortunately his ACL injury appears to have taken away his pace. He is not a starter, and that showed in the game he started.

Brymora. Looked lost in his only appearance. I think he needs more time training with the group before being fed to the lions.
Kokko needs a fair go at it. I don't care if he was Millers choice or Jones', he has ability and we would be stupid (yeah past evidence suggests we are) to not give him a go. I really think that Kokko and Noddy could really work well together. I aalso think that type of player will enhance Ugar and Brown by giving then a target man who can hold the ball up.
Give him a fair go. If he fails then send him packing but to date, through injury, we have seen nothing really.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club let Haliti go in the January window. He's past his best and far too expensive to keep around when he's not even considered bench worthy. Thailand or similar might be more suitable for him now.

You are the one banging on about Kokko. All I have said is that we are playing players out of position, ie Nordstrand and Clut, and then dumping them when they don't perform.
Kokko, when passed medically fit to play, should play. And if not we should be playing our other options who can actually play 9 like Bymora and Haliti. I absolutely would be giving Bymora more opportunities. It makes no difference how young a player is, if they are good enough they should be promoted. And you are ready to write Labi off on 1 game.
Jones plays defensive formations and shuffles the front players out of position. He needs to actually play 2 up front in their natural positions. Play Clut or Nordstrand at 10 and play with a striker upfront.
FFS he thinks fairy ankles Bridge is going to save us.

Agreed. First time I have left our home ground in a long time feeling content about the quality of football put before us against Wellington.
Jones has shown he deserves a longer stint to show us what he is truly capable of (or maybe not).
Jones brought in koutrombis and fyfe. Both made huge and instant impacts. Appears to be the only one who truly rated lei lei from the start (despite Josh Mitchell telling us how terrible he is).

"MRP has imposed a sanction of 3 matches, which is comprised of the mandatory suspension plus two additional matches" is how I would paraphrase it for clarity.
Hard to say whether Jones has turned the team around or its just that we have a decent group of players (which we do in my opinion) that are finally starting to click and play together nicely. In any case I'm pretty happy to allow things to continue as they are at the moment, Jones has earned the rest of the season for me and if things continue to improve then he should be allowed to stay on. Things are working. The players confidence and composure on the ball is streets ahead of anything in recent times, we're not afraid to play against top teams and either have been creating or getting to the "almost" stage of creating plenty of chances against them too. Not bad for a team playing without a high quality attacking midfielder, a traditional #9, and with wingers that were both discarded from other teams.
Not sure what the answer is but I think a slight tweak to the system to better accommodate our best players when they are all available could see us in very good stead - although it might be hard to tinker with what has been working quite well for us recently.

Mate I am not bothering to even read what crap you are spouting. You clearly have a hard on for Jones and I can't be arsed to read the local forum to try and understand why.
The guy has won 3 out of 13 and will be gone years end, hopefully a lot sooner.
I'm as lost for words as you Borat.
Apparently Miller made shithouse signings and didn't do anything positive for the club. Yet the Jones fanbois seem to forget what act Miller had to follow, and he dragged us up and out of the gutter. He gradually improved our club over the year, losing Carney and signing Uga/Nords mid-season was a further improvement, despite what a lot of us thought at the time. He then goes and makes astute signings in the off-season - when they play well, it's because of Jones. When they lose, they are deemed "shit signings that poor Jones has to work with".
Aside from winning in Perth, what have we achieved this season? A draw against 10-man Mariners at home? A draw against the equally inept Adelaide & Wellington at home? A scrappy win against Adelaide at home where the winning goal shouldn't have counted?
The positivity some of you have now was exactly what some of us had last year when Miller got us off the foot of the table and notched up 7 wins, including the impressive 3-2 comeback win against City. Nevermind that our team last year was much poorer than this season. And we got ****ing slammed for it, by none other than MFKS and his groupies.

4 games in a row when I have been entertained watching the Jets. I haven't enjoyed watching single a Jets game for about 7 years, so I'm edging towards the Jones bandwagon

Last few games last year were ok to watch once Uga and Nobby got going.
Then we were garbage early doors this year.
Now they're playing good again.
My outrage has followed this curve.

You're right. The 4-2 win down on the coast late last year was horrendous.

I'd like to see stats on how we go under Beath. For some reason I feel like we always cop the rough end of the pineapple when we have him.
OK - our record under Beath...wow
29 matches, we've won 5, drawn 7 and lost 17. He's even with the yellow cards (51 for us, 47 for opposition)
We've only ever received one penalty. Opposition have received 5. He's only ever sent off 1 opposition player, but has sent off 4 of ours.
Basically, if we get Beath bet against us

But won't all referees look like that? We've been shit for the longest time so we are going to have losing records under everyone, right?

Seriously you have a short memory
Millertime spent his time parking the ****ing bus
His football was shit
It was as boring as bat shit to watch.
Fap on all you like about his record. But he played negative football where his first instinct was to try not to lose.
Hey Jones may not be the world's greatest coach. But he isn't making excuses for what he has been given
He is actually trying to use the useless ****ers he has at his disposal to the best of his ability.
He is actually doing this trying to play quality incisive threatening football
Something that your lovechild Millertime never done.
That ain't me being negative
That is just me telling you the reality.
Enjoy your lemons

i do love the fact the foz has descended into blokes taking sides on who our less garbage coach is/was.

It either that or we discuss who our best goal keeper option is for something different
