I don't understand what you mean. Surely they aren't just getting sponsor space for nothing? I wouldn't put that past the Jets, but the article does say:
"Bartercard has a long history of partnering with national sporting franchises and currently enjoys links with clubs in Super Rugby, the NRL and the AFL,” McKinna said."
Those other mobs seem a bit more savvy when it comes to making money. Can anyone explain this sponsorship to me?

If Labi isnt ready get another coach in who can dedicate his time fully to the juniors and he can do his apprenticeship under them.

Losing Zane from the role isn't that great of a ****ing lo
The Jets Yoof have stagnated in the last 2 years under him
Under Pascoe they played good shit
Now they just garbage under Zane
From what I hear barely makes training most weeks and leaves it to the 2IC
Not exactly great going forward for breaching the gap from Yoof to HAL
Fingers crossed this is just a band aid measure as McKinna is going to have to deal with the EJ program 100% when the club take it over from Northern soon
May well just be a band aid until the pieces can be moved into place

Not a cash sponsor. As the name implies all done for barter which means bartercard get the better deal.

Funny - most businesses I know encourage CEOs to get their hands dirty and mix with the workers. Supposed to get them out of the ivory tower and get a true feel about how the business is running. Usually creates some increased morale as it shows the boss "cares".

These are businesses whose ivory towers have solid foundations and have enough men to hold it down and not consistently complain about how undermanned their towers are though, right?

I think these two lines from Merrick are exactly why, and I totally agree.
“I am looking forward to observing the local NPL players and hopefully the lads from Weston, Broadmeadow and Hamilton are excited by the opportunity also, because you never know when a player with potential may pop up."
“It’s important for us to start playing competitive friendlies against local sides that are match fit and eager to impress,” he said.
NPL teams are almost as strong as the majority of A-League teams at this point in the season, and if any NPL teams are serious about wanting to be a part of a national second tier, then these kind of games should always be encouraged

Would rather them chase Burns hard then eventually look to a foreign no.10 ideally before the seasons starts. We would then have 4 or so proven goal scorers in this league amongst our frontline. We had a quality foreign no.10 in Leonardo and the "hardworking newy" crowd rubbished him because he didn't track back. Add him to this current squad and he'd be the missing link in providing the creativity.

Spiders gambling debts tell us he has little to no idea when it comes to analysing form.
Totti might not get the service he enjoyed in Italy -but he would not have ever seen such poor defence even as a child.

I don't know what Spiders gambling debts has got to do with anything.
I agree with him. Not saying Totti is a bad player, was good and still is, but in a League such as the A League where you need to "work" does not suit his style of play. It is not so much the player but the style of play that suits that you should be looking at.

MFKS logic:
Every future Sth American/Central American will be 3rd/4th rate rubbish, and won't go near what Fred or Carlos Hernandez did for the league, yet every Spaniard will be the next Diego Castro. Righto.

I thought the reference was to where they played more so than their nationality. WSW have signed a bloke with La Liga experience who has played against some of the top teams in the world and scored in the last 12 months or so against them. Admittedly he's not banging in goals like Messi - but if he's fit the blokes going to own this league.

The guy might be good, he might not. Why's he coming to Australia at only 31 if he can still compete in La Liga? His goal scoring record over the last 3-4 years is terrible. He could be the next Castro, he could also be the next Piovaccari. If he signed for the Jets, I could guarantee MFKS would be protesting because we're signing some overpaid hack to have a holiday. But because he signs elsewhere, we automatically expect him to be a superstar and criticise our own for no other reason.
My frustration comes with this 'grass is always greener' outlook that a few on here have no matter what. Other clubs sign different coaches/players and we automatically rubbish our own and want what the other teams have got. Adelaide and Wellington's coaches are automatically better than Merrick because they're foreign and have been around some decent leagues - I could probably name 20+ managers that once managed in the EPL, only to be proven as absolute duds. Let's ignore that Merrick has actually achieved something in Australia.
Now this Spaniard is automatically better than whoever Merrick is looking for, despite none of us having a clue who he's actually looking at, or going to sign. All of a sudden Spain is a better option than a Brazilian, just because of Castro.

WSW signed a guy who had recent experience against La Liga sides and more goals in the last year against them than Riera did. He was a huge marquee flop.
Riera has also only had TWO seasons in his his glamorous career where he has broken double figures and one of them was in the 2nd div. Take those two double figure years out and he has 50 career goals in 250 appearances. We'd be slating our management if we signed this bloke on $1m a year or whatever it's taken to get him to sign here.
Berisha was playing intermittently and awfully in 2.Bundesliga, Fornaroli was playing Uruguayan Primera and had hugely unsuccessful spells in Italy, Spain, Argentina and Brazil. Going back to before those two, Van Dijk was playing in Dutch 2nd Div scoring once every four games, half as efficient as the goal every other game he had over four seasons in Australia.
I don't think where they play is relevant.

The only blokes that have ever 'bossed this League' are ones that no one ever heard of.
Even when we get a half decent one everyone wants him gone because his goals weren't proper enough or didn't have enough assists.

Yet blokes here are fapping about signing a bloke who played 180 or so times for less than 40 career goals in the best part of 10 years for club and NT
Let's not even get into taking out his only season of note where he scored 13 ****ing those figures up more
This the same bloke who has been unable to settle anywhere Greece Korea Japan Australia NZ for any period of time before ****ing off to a new club ala Devon Head

Noting that I'm not and never have been one of those 'fapping' over Burns, he at least won A-league player of the year not that long ago. Is anyone here saying he should be getting paid what Riera is on? Not to mention his Oz status which is somewhat favourable in a league with a restricted number of foreigners allowed. He'd be a useful addition to our squad, keeping a marquee spot open.
I think you've missed the point. You've instantly had a go at the club because WSW signed Riera and we're going to sign some 4th rate guy, because you know the inner workings of Merrick and his Sth American contacts.
Personally I think we've had one of the better off-seasons so far of any club in the league. That could change over the coming month but so far we don't have a lot to complain about, unless of course you're MFKS.

But if you look at the guys recent record he's been playing in a much stronger comp than the a-league and he's scored goals.

Are you the anti-Membah? Your statements are becoming more bizarre by the day and equally as ludicrous. You both break your arguments down into the most simplistic polar opposites without any depth to it. As shallow as a puddle.
Ernie has been using his Sth American connection for years, originally through the player agent from Melbourne that died a year or two back (whose name escapes me). When Ernie recruited Fred he wasn't the number 1 recruitment choice. Ernie was quoted that he got lucky with Fred who was an after thought in recruiting Allesandro. Who was diabolically bad. Then there was his marquee signing Ricardinho. 2 year deal....didn't last long. Then there is Claudinho, Ney Fabiano, Marvin Angulo, Josey 'Puppy' Lopez. Thats a lot of misses for 2 hits.
Then not many will remember the Jets used the very same contacts in 2007 when GVE went to Brazil on a 'scouting trip'. Went there to see a particular player, met 2 to 3 agents all claiming to represent this player and was taken to a game to find out he was playing or attending. We ended up signing Denni and Drovandi.
At the same time we have 1-2 agents actively offering players from the Segunda to HAL clubs over the last 2-3 years due to the now comparative wages/economic decline in Spain. The hit rate from here is far higher. To suggest that a striker who has played in the La Liga just last season is somehow deficient because he is not scoring regularly in one of the top 4 leagues in the world.......wow thats some blinkers on right there.
But, as Lawrie openly stated on the Jetstream podcast, we do not have any systems in place to scout and recruit players. Just Lawrie and Ernie.
Let's look at your Brazilian footballers out there
First level you have your Neymar's your Willian you David Luiz etc
Blokes playing and doing well at elite Champions League level
Second Level you have your other Brazilians clogging up Euro clubs that are nowhere near thee guys level
Third level Brazillians you have these blokes playing in Japan and Korea and the Gulf etc that when you watch in the ACL are still a shit load better than anything in this country
4th level you have blokes like Denni and Ribiero and Leonardo and every other Brazillian failure in the league.
Yes this is the lot we are signing from
As for your point on Fred . Yes had 1 good year 10 years ago but done nothing at Heart .
As for the rest of them in this country very few have been successful at all
But no let's keep banging our heads against a wall signing no name Brazilians

Wow, my statements are bizarre yet you side with one of the most contradictory and confusing posters on this forum?
We've got MFKS claiming he knows exactly who Merrick is going to sign, and how said player is going to fare in our league, while at the same time criticising the club because we didn't sign this Spanish striker who's record is hardly inspiring. And if you're a striker and can't score regularly - 11 goals in his last 78 matches - then yeah, it's possible that he is somewhat deficient, and maybe he's coming to Australia for money that he possibly isn't worth elsewhere. But unlike you two, I actually see both sides of the coin - he may do well here, but I'm not going to slit my wrists that we haven't signed him. Are you telling me you'd be happy to sign this guy for two years on marquee wages? Like **** you would.
If we were offered a player, we'd see complaints from the same boring posters that we can't scout players and would just take whatever player is looking for a cosy holiday and to boost their retirement fund.
If you actually read my initial post about this, you'd realise I have nothing against Spanish players. My problem comes with forum members automatically thinking other's team signings are going to tear up the league and ours are going to automatically suck.

I am not siding with either of you, you are both as bad as each other at opposite ends of the scale. You both have credible arguments, to some extent, but instead of explaining your point you go straight for the jugular. Maybe the Membah has worn you down to this point but you come across as an apologist now whereas you used to have a reasonable sound arguments that was worth listening to.
Although MFKS opinion was delivered with the usual sledgehammer, behind that there is some proven fact to it. That in the history of the HAL that players recruited from Spanish teams or with a Spanish background have performed better than the recruits from South America. Go back and look at the press from 2007 where the league went crazy for South American players. Every team wanted them regardless of their background or resume.
Please point out where I am "splitting my wrists" on O'riel. You seem to be the one talking him down for some reason. Oriel has a good resume and has scored goals in top leagues. Hopefully for WSW they looked past this, maybe talked his past clubs or contacts and more importantly that he has a lot more fitness and press than Piovicari did.
Take 10 seconds and look at the scoring records of pretty much every visa striker that comes to the HAL. The only striker can think of that came here with a good record is Kokko and look how that turned out. O'Donnovan spent the majority of his career not scoring goals until he took the step down to Brunei. The A-League is and always will be a step down. My point being that goal scoring record is a marker, but not an overly good one for recruiting strikers to this league.

We didn't find Milton he found us - and his most recent form was 9 goals in 22 appearances in the K-League before he paid his own way to join up with the Jets. 18 months prior to that he scored 27 times in 42 appearances in the top tier of Columbian football.
He was always going to do a good job.
Kokko had good form as well with 56 goals from 97 appearances in the top tier of Finnish football.

Merrick almost rules out Burns. Hints we might look at "Aussie" talent. Maybe that's a reference to Carrusca now he has citizenship? Or am I clutching at straws. Disappointed about Burns if true. We really need to strengthen the attacking midfield area.

Can't do much about Burns wanting coin overseas. He is joining that company of Socceroos who prefer the coin over the career. Will probably end up in the Middle East.

With a WC to get selected for assuming the Socceroos get there the bloke really needs to be making sure he makes a good move being he on the periphery.
A decent season where he ends up should get him to a WC
Get it wrong though and he will blow the opportunity.
I wouldn't think coming here be a great choice for him being that we going to be relying on him the burden to succeed may get huge

that was exactly what I was thinking. The lighting requirements are for TV, so if FOX aren't showing it, Bar TV aren't allowed to show it, then where is the issue?
Whats that leave us with in Newcastle, about two grounds that we can have trials on unless they are during the day?

It sounds a bit like they've (the FFA) shot from the hip. Some transparancey from the FFA is needed AND the application of these standards must be applied to the other clubs.
It's certainly very restrictive.
The Bar TV issue seems strange too. Must be something in the fine print about broadcasting partners of A-League teams. It's sad because the exposure of the product to 15000 people (using the numbers from the last game) could aid the club in this region.

Possibly. Are NPL players covered by the PFA (Are they deemed professional?)? If not, perhaps that explains why they can play catch up games at the grounds at night. It's an interesting angle.
It's highly unlike the FFA to not be transparent on a subject like this. <SARCASM>

Given the numbers of viewers they were quoting for the game, this is an opportunity lost by the FFA to actually convert some into either members of the Jets or at least crowd members at some games. I'd suspect the flow on effects would have been similar for the NPL.
I can't see how broadcasting a game that FOX couldn't give two tosses about would hurt the FFA or FOX. I can see how it may build an additional client base, but they went and ****ed that.

Football NSW Lighting Policy follows the Australian Standard for Sports Lighting.
I would assume that NPL comes under "Semi-Professional" which is a 200 LUX minimum for games, which is the same level as "Professional" match practice.
So are the FFA trying to claim that a pre-season game should be classed as a "Professional Competition" and needs to be a 500 LUX minimum?
And if not, the only other thing you can draw from that is that Olympics ground doesn't have a minimum 200 LUX lighting system.

O'Donovans first goal was something i havent seen from the Jets for what feels like an eternity.
a bloke just confident in getting his spot and hitting the target. Nobby had a bit of that a couple of years back but this bloke actually looked like a striker.
not to mention the chances created by wingers whipping in early ball to a fast striker attacking his centreback.
i know it looked like classic Merrick football but if its how hes building his team and the players are buying in (and capable of executing) then ill be more than happy to go watch.

In all fairness to GVE I don't think he's sobered up yet from the Grand Final celebrations. Science still can't explain how he made it onto the stage at Adamstown Oval on Grand Final night all those years ago.

Yeah, funny stuff, guys.
All I'll say is that Cooper is not the answer for the Emerging Jets, because GVE is not the problem. There are institutional issues that are out of his control. I'll be back here in this thread after the season collapses to remind you.
Watch the young Matildas benefit now.

Yeah but there's people out there who think I'm a dick so obviously #fakenews is everywhere.

Ljubo is playing the any publicity is good publicity card at the moment which suggests he's looking to get a book out into the market. Based on the reaction to his volley of musings recently it's probably going to sell a few copies. Good on him if he does - it should be an amusing read.

Did you get that from the constant "my book is going to be amazing when I write it" bits that he puts in almost every instagram post?

I don't really pay much attention to anything Ljubo writes on a personal level. I'm more interested in what he has to say about training methodology and tactics. I'll leave the mud slinging shit for the 12 year old girls on Face Book to sort out.
The quote you provided suggests there is no book and that Ljubo is just fishing for attention or possibly an offer from a publisher to write a book.

Oh, that's not a quote at all... he just talks about a book on most posts. Lots of "I have more stories about person X but will save them for the book" type stuff.

In that case if the book ever does come around it's not one I'd be interested in reading.

Ljubo has been pretty much on the money with his comments in the past. So brace yourself for another shit season of Jets football.
