First Grade Predictions
1 - Olympic
2 - Magic
3 - Jets Youth
4 - Edgeworth
5 - Adamstown
6 - Maitland
7 - Weston
8 - Jaffas
9 - Valentine
10 - Azzurri
11 - Lakes

I think that 5th spot to 10th spot will be close but Lakes will struggle this season and will be left at the bottom by quiet a large gap. Edgy have lost a few so I'm putting them in 4th and if the Jets keep most of their current squad they will be up around 3 or 4th spot.

Totally unbiased haha, oh ok then, I think we ( Azzuri ) will pressure the top four at least. Cascioroli and McDermott experience, Hughes and Maguire training the house down, need our young strikers to step up to the mark and write their name on that vacated position.

There has been 4 predictions so far, none has edgeworth finishing higher then third.

Surprising, I realise a couple have left but surely the team to beat?
A few possibly underestimating Zanes ability to keep them at the top. Apparently the english guy is quality. I have them finishing first again.

Let me be the first to ask the question........ how are the Jaffa's fitting in so many new players into the new 180 point cap??? Nathan Morris, Todd McSorley, Ridge Mapu, Michael Kantarovski, 2 lads from Mariners (NPL2 Sydney). That alone takes up a lot of points.

Mikey moved back to Port Macquarie during the off-season to be closer to his family and friends. We all should be thinking of him at this time as his father passed away only last week.

The same way that Damian Zane had no experience at this level...until he did and won everything. I'm sure the rest of the comp wish Edgy had the same view.
Chris probably won't do the same, but to write him off before he's even been given the job is pretty rough.

Yet we still manage premierships and grand final wins despite all the supposed MVP's leaving. Unfortunately tough calls need to be made when there are age gaps in the divisions. Compounding the matter is parents who are obviously deep throating opposition coaches to get their sons playing up the age grades. Never ceases to make me laugh when a player is promised 22's/Firsts and comes up playing against our U19's when he would have been playing in our U19's at the start and transition to U22's during the year. But i suppose it makes the coaches jobs easier, you are in or you are not, there is no middle ground.

This years 20's is exclusively Magic, no imports Youth progression paying off and Johnny Bennis back to coach them.

We have made some big signings n the past but some of them have been our youth players which were selected into the Jets program and returning to Magic, eventually like Mikey Kanta, Kale. No other NPL clubs have players moving from Senior grades to the Jets like Magic does, yeah the occasional training session, but thats just to make the numbers. We have tried a few keepers in that time but it is a specialist position and you get that, Bowlo is a tough personality to replace.

I thought promising the youth players they could play up an age, only to be told to play in the younger age as well was why so many left. Didn't last years 19s have at least 6 players playing regularly in 17s?
Either way they keep on leaving which will really stuff up any player point system over the next few years.

Yes many of the 17 year old players in the U19's helped out the U17 squad at the start of the season as it was decimated by injuries in preseason and the U15's werent ready yet to make the step up. Many of those U17 year olds would then go on to star for the U22's in the premiership winning season, and to their credit many U15's developed the confidence to step up into the U17's as the year progressed.

Magic has a policy of only signing 14 players per yth squad so playing up/down occurs frequently.

Firstly, no kid is a certain First Grader until they have established themselves as a first grade starter, that occurs through hardwork, patience, determination and an insighful headcoach. No one can predict which kid at 15-18 will be a first grader and you will be lucky if 2 per grade that come through will ever make it to regular starter status at any club. To predict that kids will be "certain first graders" is the kind of ignorant thinking of a parent skiing with the head coach and assistants johnsons in hand. Kids priorities change; they start going out, the competition is too fierce and they lack the mental resilience to battle it out (primarily by being over inflated by youth coaches and parents), and the system is against the kid age penalty to the pps should have stayed in some part.

Which "certain first graders" are you refering to? Magic U19's player Pat Langois was the only NPL player to get offered a Yth contract in 2016 is obviously playing for the Jets in NPL 2017.

Certainly many may change priorities. But given the pick of the kids born since 1 Jan. 1999 that have left Magic in the last 2 or 3 years, I reckon you could get a premiership winning side within 4 years. Remember, Newcastle NPL isn't Bundesliga.

All results today were:

Southy v Valo
1st: Valo 2-1
23's v 20's: Southy 2-0
19's v 18's: Draw 1-1
17's v 16's: Draw 1-1

Belswans v Edgy:
1st: Edgy 5-1
23's v 20's: Edgy 3-0
19's v 18's: Edgy 3-0
17's v 16's: Draw 1-1

Wasn't at either but was told Belswans looked decent against Edgy but quality and fitness obviously would have ran riot towards the end. Fairly tight result in Southy v Valo. Don't know much about either side so can't comment too much but guessing Southy wouldn't be too disheartened to have that result against NPL opposition.

Not much promoted about it but Lakes playing Singo in 1st on Tuesday night at Macquarie Field.

Any results from Adamstown trials

i went to watch this game,
st george won 2 - 1

St geoges first goal was a decent individual goal, second was a **** up from the back which lead to a open goal but with a solid strike to finish.

but adamstown looked pretty structured under guinno, a lot of young kids i dont know, but the ones i know of were,

Berlin, rob Turnbull, justin tannock, alex read , jordan harrison, paul bitz , stuey musalik
what was good to see though was stuey got a good hit out. still shows some class... love ya stu..

Adamstown goal came from good lead up play which lead to berlin to crack one with his left then got tipped to bar for some you kid to tap in..
also a bit of push and shoves second half from st george, good to see atown boys give it back twice as hard.

[QUOTE=The Magician;172004]Yet we still manage premierships and grand final wins despite all the supposed MVP's leaving.

This years 20's is exclusively Magic, no imports Youth progression paying off and Johnny Bennis back to coach them.

massive boost for this club.
benno has a lot to give . its good he is back where he belongs..

This makes sense. They would have to be letting plenty of players go to try and fit all of their new players in and under the cap. The last story i heard was they have signed Mapu from valo , Kanta from magic , McSorley from charlestown, two players from the Mariners , Griffiths , Pawiak from jets and Morris from weston. Can anyone confirm this and if true how can they fit all of those into 180 points. Has Pascoe also signed 4 of the jaffas under 6's at 0 points ?

Valentine vs Edgy score today??

U18: Valo 0-2 Edgy
U20: Valo 1-1 Edgy
1st: Valo 1-5 Edgy

Fairly convincing. Edgy had a few out (McBreen played most of the game) and some younger guys in and controlled most of the game. Valo need more going forward and Carter in goals had two howlers that cost goals. Too early to cast doubt over Valo and where they may or may not finish but convincing signs that Edgy will be there or thereabouts again.

however-interesting! everyone outside the football establishment not run by the firm ( aka NNSWF), can provide ideas and new ways to improve the local FOOTBALL in our area.
Don't be alarmed though, there has been months of new trials, of coffee beans, from the overpaid wasted spaces whom you find sipping lattes in the supposed world class facility, all us players have paid for over the years and continue to.

Think there will be way too many lop sided matches which could turn it into a farce. Wont be surprised if there are several double figure score lines. Cant see it working in its current format. NPL teams should be group together and probably have 2 tiers or divisions and therefore 2 grand finals clubs would get much more out of it that way and may help the longevity. The NPL teams strikers will be having a field day if taken seriously. 3 games in 2 days and 4 in 3 for the finalists at this time of the year seems ridiclous.

But all for seeing new things happening and hope it all goes well.

dan

The matches are 30mins each way with unlimited interchange, and upto 25 players can be registered for the course of the tournament.
It's a good chance for the NPL clubs to give young blokes or fringe 1st graders a run against us clubs not in the NPL.

Because they didn't score, does that mean they have to better in the attacking third ? Give credit to Hawkesbury, they were very very well drilled defensively, swadling tried hard, and they had four or five chances in the last 20 when they brought on Atkinson, Purcell and cook, three youngens, only a trial, yes a wake up call, yes defense was woeful, but Hawkesbury played very well in all three grades.

Cant see many games being played on the weekend due to the heat policy........ do we think NNSW have opened up a can of worms.

Weather predicted to hit 40 degrees both days, problem is its " predicted " , what if games are cancelled and it ends up a cloudy 23 degrees ???

Are any games called off yet ?

This makes sense. They would have to be letting plenty of players go to try and fit all of their new players in and under the cap. The last story i heard was they have signed Mapu from valo , Kanta from magic , McSorley from charlestown, two players from the Mariners , Griffiths , Pawiak from jets and Morris from weston. Can anyone confirm this and if true how can they fit all of those into 180 points. Has Pascoe also signed 4 of the jaffas under 6's at 0 points ?

Pawiak has signed with Maitland

Olympic 3 mariners youth 2.both teams had little splurges of getting on top of each other with Mariners keeper giving some nice saves and Olympic taking there time to settle in the fist 15min. Looked like game was going to finish 2-2 with 10 min to go till Rhys Cooper spotted Mariner keeper on the edge of 18 box and slotted a bomb in from half way line.Another good hit out by Olympic ,Mariners made them work hard

Magic did well tonight.. 3-2 win over Bulli. Game fluctuated between dominance of both sides but Magic look good even though they used a lot of their 20's. Their new Asian player is top notch. Game cut short early by the referee with a bit of a scuffle on the sidelines with Bulli assistant coach involved with a Magic player!! Boys got a bit hot in tough conditions

Did Giantsopoulos play the whole game. If so, he pulled off quite a save late in the match to keep the lead. Liaoning went for a set-play off the FK and the keeper just tipped it over the bar.

Good to see a few young guys come off the bench for Magic as well and step up to the challenge.

He has also Coached at :
Newcastle Breakers

Wallsend
Toronto
Been DOC at Central Coast x 2 . NNSW , Cairns , Newcastle Fooball

He played for New Lambton in 3rd Division as a 15 Year Old . Where he put pen to paper on a lifetime deal . Playing through the divisions until New Lambton won the 1st Grade premiership in 1974
Then Preston North End
Then back to Adamstown , Wallsend as Player Coach , Back to Adamstown under Keith Anderson
Finally playing his last season at his beloved club New Lambton .

Thats who started... Haynes, Bradbery, Kantarovski, Robertson, Paul, Sunada came off at half time. Young boys went on in second half, only regulars to finish the match was higgins and griff who came on at half time.

Great for the young boys training with firsts to sit shoulder to shoulder with Robbie and James after the match and share a dinner, something they wont forget for a while.

Agreed.
I can see their point to a degree. That stability will allow clubs to put in place various measures and hopefully some of the money spent on player wages to avoid relegation could be spent on facilities and infrastructure and programs.
Whether this happens or not, only time will tell.

I feel for clubs in NEWFM, without the incentive of promotion, there isn't much drive for players or clubs to improve. 3 years is a long time. With 3 years between another shot at promotion (and even then it is based on criteria) I fear for some of these clubs. And I think the gap between them, will get bigger.
