TALKING POINTS:
General
The Jets 3 wins against the Wanderers have all come away from home.
The Jets have won 10 points from losing positions this year - the most in one season in their history.
Newcastle have also scored 22 goals this season - the most at this stage in any season previous.
They have also scored multiple goals for 6 consecutive weeks. This has only occurred once - a run from Rd 17 to the home semi in 2007/08
COACHES
Mark Jones has the second highest goals per game ratio (1.47) of all Jets A-League coaches. He sits behind Clayton Zane (1.58).
However, his teams also concede the 3rd highest number of goals per game in Jets history - 1.73. He's ahead of Phil Stubbins (2.04) and Nick Theodorakopoulos (2.29)
Players
Andrew Hoole, who is suspended for this week's match, had previously played every minute so far this season - the last remaining Jets outfield player with this record.
Wayne Brown and John Koutroumbis remain one card away from an automatic suspension.
Vedran Janjetovic has kept 8 clean sheets in 11 appearances against Newcastle.
Last week, Adam Taggart became the 24th ex-Jet to score against the club.
Newcastle Jets
The Jets are 13 games without a clean sheet in the A-League. This is the =3rd highest run in their history. The longest streak is 18 games.
One-third of the Jets goals against the Wanderers have been scored in the last 15 minutes of the match.
Western Sydney Wanderers
Wanderers haven't won at home all season.

Ah just saw that, but do you think they'd let a player have a day off to go flying? surely that could be done on a player day off?

Well, we are a bit of a joke.. :gent:
The more I think about it, I remember Matt Hall saying in the clip that he was wary that Morton had played a game the day before, so that would mean they did the fly on Monday..

We will lose 3-1 and fall to 8th. Which will be fine with half the foz because we look way better coming 8th under Jones than we ever did coming 8th under Miller.

Not getting into Jones v Miller, but are you seriously saying you couldn't care less about what goes on during the 90 minutes each week as long as we get a few wins every week? Sure, winning is good and would be great to see us in finals again - but personally I like watching nice football. If you only cared about results why even bother watching the game? Just check the scores each week.

Nah it's not Miller v Jones for me - I dislike both of them. I think Jones has done a better job producing a watchable product than Miller did, but I'm confused by the complete acceptance of mediocrity around some parts - like going near the top 60% of the competition is some kind of achievement.
Also, I think playing sound, solid defence counts as nice football, and I'm seeing absolutely zero of that this season.
I think we have the capability to produce better quality and results by not giving our opponents complete control of the game for the first 10 minutes like we seem to have made a habit of this season. I think we should find ways to include quality players in our starting 11 like Kokko and Clut, while putting guys into positions they are comfortable in (ie Brown not playing as our AM). I think we're fortunate to have picked up as many results as we have, and expect our outcomes to regress to our mean over the remainder of the season, which will be 8th or 9th.
More onto your question though - yes, I care more about results than playing aesthetically pleasing, ineffective football. Not that these things should be mutually exclusive. But if I had a choice between us winning a bunch of scrappy games 1-0 and finishing the season in 5th or playing occasionally nice football and finishing 8th, it's an absolute no-brainer to me. 7 years without even finishing in middle of the pack is too long for mine.
This isnt a jonesiller debate for mine either but one taking us out of deep sh1t to another lifting us a bit further with a slightly better squad.
Big picture, we need to keep this improvement going so we are top 4 and can wear inflatable jets hats and break more school fencing with pride.

Agreed. Love Uga but he has blown a couple chances for us today by not making the right pass at the right time. Our backline has been awful all season - shocks me we had all this club talk in January about signing another striker but nothing about finding CBs who can defend.

With a little more depth or less injuries we can make the finals.

Huge game in the context of our season - zero reason for the players not to be at the top of their game for this one. We have massive problems with our club culture if their is no drive in the team to achieve results. Something needs to be fixed.

Good for 20 minutes out of 90.
Kokko missed his chance
Clut is no number 10
Ma inconsistent
Jackson too inexperienced
Game gone. Finals gone
of course. Anyone who thought we were finals contenders is max slow. We play ok, are decent to watch and not as bad as the last 2/3 yrs.

Players being out excuses quality, not effort or drive, and I saw zero of that in the second half from any of our guys. We were playing for a spot in the top 6 today and we f*cking walked it in. Disgusting.
Players probably did it just to piss you off. We all have good and bad days. Generally speaking it's not by choice we have bad ones - and until the moment of truth you never know how you are going to perform on the park.

Just watched the presser. Jones said that Mullen for Clut was about moving Lei Lei to 10 and Hoff to where Lei Lei was so we could penetrate more.
I think the only ones getting penetrated by that move were the Jets fans that travelled to watch the game.

Was there a match on today? I thought I saw the jets on TV at the pub but I saw a team playing nothing compared to what I saw in the past 5 weeks.

And that, right there.. Is the difference between the Jets and a top 6 team. They turn up when the points need to be gained. We simply don't.
See you all next year for the fight for 6th.

****ing disgrace that
4 hours to get home after watching that shite
Great day out until kick off
**** the club
Bunch of ****s the lot of them
Made Raheem Sterling look good
At last the Member got his account back after Jones has hacked it for the last month. ****ing fraud of a coach
I think there were two passages in the whole game where we passed it ridiculously well, triangles, flicks, however managed to do nothing with it.
Other than those two moments, we were absolute horsesh!t..
I made the mistake of commenting to my mates before the game, about what a noob Scott was and how he couldn't score... Such an amateur thing to say/do..
After that, they put money on him to score twice.. Turns out we were all losers..

You mean ran around aimlessly and couldn't lift his giant head up enough to see a pass that wasn't two feet from him?
Not trying to knock the bloke too hard cause he is very young, but if that's all it takes for you to get excited your wife must either love/hate you depending on your skills at Coitus...
He did seem to give it a go, which is to be expected of a young bloke.
Kokko, whilst probably not being a great player, wasn't helped by those around him. He needs someone a bit smarter than Lei Le, around him to feed off/feed to. Nobby or Brown seem to be the better option to play with him but with our system Jones seems to pick either Kokko or Nobby. Considering Nobby is now about 76 years young we kind of can't win with either of those choices at the moment.
If only Haliti was fit and firing.

Clut struggled but has shown promise in a few games. His shooting on the weekend was pretty woeful, two (maybe more) quite good chances that were nowhere near on target. Kokko was pretty invisible for the most part. Whether he was not making himself available or just wasn't being found I'm not sure. I still think he's being hurt by the style of trying to play the striker in behind. Needs either a second striker with him or the #10 to be closer to him for it to work I think. Otherwise he won't see the ball and when he does he won't be able to do anything with it. Did some nice work on the right wing in the leadup to Hoffman's shot though

I only caught the first half, but I remember pretty much every time Kokko got it, it was at halfway making a pass either back to DF or out wide, and couldnt be seen in the resulting attack

The kid can actually press defenders, and apply pressure. He made a few intelligent runs as well but or players seem afraid or incapable of playing forward at times.
Rewatch the first goal and look at what Kokko does.
Kokko has got to be one of the slowest players I have ever seen. He comes deep links with the midfield, and then when the ball gets wide for a deliverey he isnt in the box.
The biggest problem for me in that game after watching the **** whilst sober today is the incompetence of the midfield
Stevie u and Poljak were ****ing anonymous and shown no control of that game.
This an area where we need significant reinforcement in
Poljak has to go
Seriously how does Johnny K not getting a run here? ?
Other thing that needs addressing is Cowburn . The bloke is the slowest full back on the planet
He has no left foot and constantly kills attacks
So what exactly is the point of playing him at fullback???
If he ain't good enough to get a run in the middle of the park. Release him and move on
Kokko is shit. Jones is right to not want to play him much
What was really irritating was the severe lack of leadership amongst the players. No one looked like inspiring the team onwards in adversity
The opponent was pretty average yet we made them look comfortable

Haven't seen the replay but got the impression Kokko is 1 meter away from Sotirio on the first goal, just watching him and not trying to apply any pressure on him.....Am I correct?....#KokkoOut .......Mifsud would have scored 30 goals in the Finnish League if he had played there 4/5 years ago.....:lulzturtle:

Ask let's say Guardiola or Sacchi or let's just mention Total Football.......Never heard first line of defence are the forwards?.... Kokko is so deep on the first goal he may as well try to do something if he made it that far back down the pitch......

I agree that uga and poljak were very poor yesty. Poljak however has been rather impressive recently for a pretty average player. If he gets his citizenship sorted he'd be quite the handy backup if we do strengthen our mids

Something i've noticed most weeks even past seasons as well. No matter what tactics/coach/players we normally have to work super hard or do something super creative to create space or scoring opportunities where as opposition teams find space in our half at will and create chances galore often. Then I imagine if we had a keeper of Izzo or Redmayne how much we'd concede each week. Scary stuff

This is exactly what a decent midfield is meant to stop from happening. We have had some of the weakest midfielders for years and it has shown time and time again that over the season we can't compete with the top 4 or even top 6.
The Spine of the team has lacked for years, not that other teams have world class mids, and we never seem to fix it. Uga looked promising but has been poor lately. The coaching staff need to work out what's going and fix it. Get him firing and put someone next to him with some talent and we might scrape into the 6.

Yeah Ugar has been really poor ever since he signed the new deal. Has his head been turned by an overseas offer?? and Poijak was great last week and felt like he has been decent recently so a mystery as to why he was poor on sunday.
I think a 3 man midfield could work with Ugar at the base with browny and a really good box to box midfielder next to him, maybe browny can be the box to box and clut can play deeper in a midfield 3. Ugar normally reads the game really well and covers alot of ground, but can be poor in the tackle.

We have bits of the puzzle out injured. Once those players get back to where they were the problems will disappear. Brown makes a huge difference and compliments both Poljak and Ugar. Then you can add the man you all love to hate Hoole. Like him or not he forces opposition players into areas they don't want to be and creates space for others.
Sure we could be better and all but we lost two nil on the weekend where in the past we would have been done 7-0.
The Jets main issue is depth - that should get sorted for next season as we have the money and enough players off contract to make it happen - unlike past seasons.

Agree with almost all of this. Except even with all those players back we still aren't top 6 quality. We are on the cusp of it though.
I feel like we are 1 decent midfield presence away from being a massively different team. We always seem to go into the season with a just good enough midfield and it never works out for us.

Also need a better and less injured striker then Kokko and Nordstrand. If Mclaren leaves the roar and its not overseas we need to make him a designated player and offer him whatever he wants

I said it many times before season kicked off that we needed to spend more money and recruit in CM
But the coach thought otherwise and felt Kanta Poljak Steve u Clut Brown and Cooper were enough
I not seeing.one bloke there who walks.into another HAL midfield
You can harp on about Stevie u but the bloke is potentially a good player
Potential means **** all
He ain't getting into the City side ahead of Killkenny and Bratttton
He ain't getting into the Smurfs side ahead of O'Neil and Brillante
He ain't getting into the Tards ahead of Valeri and Bozanic
Time we signed some quality to play with him
Expecting him to develop playing with blokes like Poljak and Kanta is taking the piss
