We've got a second chance to do what we failed to do against Western Sydney - beat a team around us in contention for the Top 6.

I hope we've learned from that match and take a different approach than we did a few weeks ago.

It's also going to be interesting to see who will fill in for Ugarkovic. Will Brown be fit? I believe Kanta is ready to go. Could Cowburn slot in midfield?

Kanta has been finished as an aleague player for about 2/3 seasons now. Boogs is the only walking red card we need. Kanta only looked good cause Stevie U was immense early season

Kanta only looked good cause Stevie U was immense early season

I guess we will disagree on that point, because I thought Kanta was playing very well early on. We were discussing on the podcast at the time how we thought Poljak would get back in. We've looked best when both, no just one, midfielders were playing well this season.

Kanta's passing accuracy was 76% that match, compared to Stevie U-G at 78% who you said was immense? Kanta played the most passes of any Jets player in that match too. Round 3 he gets a dodgy pen while filling in as a defender due to the injuries - how is that his fault? And yes, injury round 4 before coming off the bench in Round 7.

Watching the Adelaide game all I saw was Kanta passing straight to Adelaide but its not all about passing, against the Roar we were lucky they were rubbish because Kanta was applying zero pressure on anyone in midfield. I suppose Kanta gets a pass against wsw cause everyone can see he cannot play cb so when he's picked there Its no surprise he doesn't do well

No Kanta in the squad this week. I guess our discussion was pointless :rof:

While yes, I brought passing percentages into the discussion it was to compate two players in the same position, it was to try bring balance to the observations made that one played well and the other didn't, possibly through confirmation bias.

And any attempt to meansure pressing would be ridiculous. One player pressing is mostly useless. Effective pressing needs all the team working.

No Kokko either

Nor Haliti.

If Jones doesn't have faith/rate Kokko and/or Haliti you can understand why he was looking for an additional striker. Our potential to win a game off the bench really doesn't exist - simply the ability to shut a game down.

Poor Nabbout pass and a clumsy leg from Boogs cost us. We're not playing bad football but the odd turnover in midfield from wayward passes is hurting us. Lucky Keogh was offside.

Opportunity missed. We are creating chances and scoring goals but we are always chasing the game because defensively we aren't tight enough.

The possession stat won't mean much tonight. It might even show the Jets had more of the ball than the Glory. However, anyone watching the game knows that Perth have dominated both halves and deserve the three points .
Perth will be in the top four within the next few weeks where they should be.
I think the Jets are a better team than Melb City and should be able to hold on to a top six spot.
Wellington, is the team I fear.
Overall, the Jets are the most improved team in the competition regardless of tonights result.

Currently watching this on delay. We are piss weak in defence. We havent hit Castro while they are sliding in balls n all. Fking pansies. Ref giving home town advantage no surprise there

We was robbed. It was a penalty! We seem to never get the calls

Is there a MRP for Ref's? Ffs...that's match fixing status.

3-2 down with ten mins to go away to Perth and people are complaining - Goes to show just how far the clubs come this season.

My thoughts of the game here. The fact we are scoring twice and competing in Perth like a normal A-League side is a positive, I didn't get to see the game but was getting updates and fully expecting us to be in it. And we were!
I think if we miss the 6 it's going to be unlucky this season, not through the typical shitness!

Competing - most of the time, effort = good, attack is vastly improving but....

Lets get fair dinkum for a minute and accept that our defence is disorganised and soft. Management is a big part to blame for that imo.

I'd like to know how fast Mullen can run 100 metres but I've misplaced my sun dial.

Hahahaha that's not bad. Who would have thought Mullen would get found out at RB.

For all the preaching about defence and cleanshhets, Jones has no idea how to set a defence. He seriously needs help.

Yep - very simple, we need a few clean sheets to get to the finals.

Can't expect to score 2 or 3 goals every game.

Mullen has tried and failed RB for Adelaide and dismally at Wanderers. Yet maybe Jones wasn't watching. Cowburn or Vujica over Mullen at fullback any day of the week.

To be fair to Jones he has **** all to choose from. Cowburn has been just as poor this year. Vujica looks promising but still a developing product and obviously still injured. I've said for this whole season our weak spot is our fullbacks. I'd be looking at strengthening for next season and beyond

Cowburn has been poor at times but nowhere near the rubbish Mullen has dished up every week. Mullen only decent games were Perth away first game and City at coffs

Both Cowburn and Hoffman have the same limitation at left back - and that's their left foot. Neither are confident on it and are continually cutting inside to get ont heir right. This breaks the momentum of the play and then requires us to feed it to Ugarkovic or Poljak. The opposition then have players behind the ball.

Hoffman, at least, has the ability to get up and down the wings. I feel for Cowburn because he's copping criticism while playing in his unfavoured position. But, hey, he's a professional footballer and not all players get to play in the position they want to so he's open to being criticised.

There's simply issues with our defensive capabilities and approach as a whole. Miller had the same players operating as a much tighter ship. And to think people were worried under Jones how he'd coach a team to score because organising defenses were his strength. How's that turned out!

This 100%. We need to sign a left footed left back. Wait is Vujica left footed?

Desperately need a proper wide back.

I am actually starting to suspect, given Hoffman recent transition to the left that we might be making way for a RB?

I thought Hoffman did a reasonable job at LB to be fair. Mullen killed us.

Missed ugarkovic in the middle.

Fair result in the end, but thought we had enough in us to draw or even jag a win. Certainly had the chances.

There's a simple fix while Vujica is out... Jackson on the left, Hoffman in his usual spot. At least then it's only one player out of position and at least he is left footed, right?

Can't wait for Vujica to be back.

My point is saying Jackson is the solution is wrong. Finding a dedicated fullback is the solution.

Edit: I noticed you said "While Vujica is out". Obviously can't sign anyone till seasons end. I just don't see playing Jackson out of position as the answer to playing Mullen out of position.

I still see Vujica as a work in progress. He's young and I've been a big fan since his arrival. I just see him as a long term prospect who still has a few issues in his game that need addressing. It would be nice to see the club go after a quality right or left back aside from him.

Neither Jackson or Mullen are up to playing fullback and eventually get targeted by the opposition. Cowburn is a better option than either of them and should be back in the side. We have leaked goals all year and its up to the coach to do what his paid for and sort out our defensive structure rather than swapping players like musical chairs.

You right that Jackson and Mullen are not up to playing fullback

But you wrong when you say Cowburn is
He just another player who gets targeted for his lack of pace.

Be good if he actually sorted our CMs out

Once again Poljak abysmal on Saturday
People still want him resigned

FMD

Johnny K and Stevie U are rookies themselves.

The senior player in CM shows no control of the game every week.

But he runs lots according to some FMD

I said Cowburn was better, not ideal.

You reckon Poljak runs a lot? I am not convinced. His best games for mine are always when the other side does't press and he does't need to run a lot. When we play the better sides who press Poljak struggles to inject himself and struggles with the pace of the game.

No

I not saying he runs a lot

His defenders on the foz use his running as a positive

I look at his running as a negative

He only running to make up for his in efficency and inability to control the midfield

Our midfield in 2017 have been pathetic

Second best every week in the battle

Considering we don't have the cattle it is inexcusable that our effort isn't on par or superior than our rivals in midfield

Where did I say they didn't need replacing? I am saying that given the choice in the starting team of Mullen/Cowburn/Jackson at LB or RB that I would have Cowburn. Mullen is appalling as a RB and was summarily run out of Wanderers because he was so bad in that position and flakey at CB. Jackson is a top player but not a better LB than Cowburn is a RB.
