This is the 8th consecutive F3 derby to kick off at either 5:00pm or 5:15pm.

Although, both are undefeated against the Sauce Bottlers. So Jones could do himself a lot of favours with a win this weekend.

I'd disagree that Jones doesn't understand the importance of this game. He was around when the F3 derby was the only derby in the country and both teams are at the top of their game. He knows what this means to the fans.

Shouldn't need much motivation to get the team up this week.

You'd think so. But it's different going up against rivals versus the team who is last and getting played off the park for the most part each week.

Perhaps complacency had crept in?

Kokko needs to play this game, he should be motivated enough by his last encounter with this trash to want to prove a point against them, time Jones puts him and Nordstrand out there together early and let them draw the gyppos' defence while Hoole and Nabbout run riot up the wings - which of course means Jones won't do it...

Play Kanta and instruct him to kick the shit out of O'Donavan and make it clear it's the only way he will get another contract with the Jets.
If he gets a red card so what, we probably weren't going to play him again anyway.

It's disappointing that nobody else came up with a similar plan.

Would love to see a good crowd, but still worried people are voting with their feet. Our crowds have been steadily dwindling due to another season of inconsistent football and people are still disillusioned by it all after so many years of failure - if it were true that our playing style is enough to draw in the crowds we would be seeing an increase rather than steady decline at the turnstiles. We need results, and solid results at that, to turn a few more through the gates, game v Tards was a really good game but we didn't win, followed by a gutless loss the next game against the cellar dwellers, and no-one is going to have great expectations of us thrashing the gyppos, so why would they wanna turn up? All our coach will say if we lose is 'it is what it is' - totally over if Jonesy, we have the cattle to be a top 6 contender, if you aren't capable of making them meet their potential f*ck off back to Adelaide juniors and let Clayton coach us for the rest of the season...

A lot of people are doing it tough financially at the moment as well which won't be helping. So for many families without a season ticket it's a relatively expensive day out. Hence, the team needs to be even more consistent than it was in the past to keep crowd numbers up as people are looking for a lot more from a dollar during these times.
People like myself that don't work and essentially live off savings are not keen to throw money at anything that's not a sure thing so to speak. I can buy a weeks groceries for close to what it costs to go to a Jets game - and lets face it - they are not worth starving over.
Admittedly, there are some people that place watching Jets at the top of their lists as well. But I would say they are the exception to the rule.

If we are interested in making the play offs then yes

Being that we are playing a side as shit as the Gypos are it really should be no excuses for failing to get the 3points today.

I like how the jets have a player on his own and a player with two or three on him - so we pass to the player with two or three on him and lose the ball every time.

There were signs this team was going to be different to past seasons but in the past few weeks the past has been back to haunt us.

We leaked a few goals but were at least looking good going forward. Now we have nothing going forward and only marginally better defence.

Back to the rebuilding phase I guess.

Jones on notice. Today was a fair competition even with players unavailable. No excuses to perform this poorly at home against weak opposition

What cost us the goal was the set up at corners.

We don't have anyone stay near the top of the d

As a result we have a hard time clearing balls well

Secondly what cost us was also our happiness to jockey and hold position. It leads to not being first to the ball which in and around your box is a massive requirement

Their goal was a screamer. There's no one to blame stop clutching at straws. Mullen didn't get destroyed. He wasn't even half bad. Was probably a fair result in the end. I would have loved to see us pinch it but Kokko and Nordstrand breaking down really hurt us in the end. Game was flat after that.

Yes Mullen did most of the game Pain went straight past him. Last 20 mins Mullen made some interceptions cause Pain got tried then subbed. Mullen has 1 good game every 4 weeks or so and keeps his place. Keep the Hoff at RB and Stick Cowburn and Vujica at LB for good. Mullen should now be behind Boogs Jackson and Johhny K in the pecking order

Hunter403
27-02-2017, 11:17 AM
My thoughts, for what they're worth.
Arcaba is shaky
Mullen is behind Jackson and Katroumbis to partner Boogaard.
Get Vuj or Cowburn to LB and Hoff to right
Nordstrand and Kokko worked yesterday. Would have been interesting to see how Kokko would go if either Hoole or Nabbout provided service. They were both very, very ordinary yesterday.
Not having a back up forward for both Kokko and Nordstrand on the bench was extremely poor management.
Thought Kanta looked ok. Not great, but ok.
Hoole's inability to play a simple pass to Nordstrand cost us dearly. You should have seen the look on Gombau's face. Priceless
We gave them to much room in our back third
We forgot to come back onto the field after half time
Best for me: Johnny K, Jackson, Nordstrand and Kokko. Ugar had good patches too.

Pretty good. I could see him doing Taggart like things given the chance. His finishing is generally good and he can hammer a shot from outside the box as well.
Not sure if he has the engines to press defenders hard for a full game.

Yes these are both issues for Jones to address

We have both had problems with them for years.
We have stood off in defence for years

Sydney FC success based on pressing will see rival sides play catch up this coming off season so we should be sorting this

As for defending corners for years we have put all players in our box. Jones has at least put Raheem Sterling 40yards from goal which is a start. But yes needs more addressing on how we deal with corners. Far too often we put it out for another or hoof it to know one. There is no ****ing plan really on keeping possession from defending a corner

Jetmaster
27-02-2017, 04:52 PM
Two fixable things we need to address....first touch; poor across the field and stops us zipping the passes around. Even the Mariners can do that at times.
And first time shooting....nobody does it and if they do it's usually a shocker.

Yep, this was noticeable yesterday when Nobby was less than meter from goal with Fizzo spreadeagled in front of him... and he decided to pass it.

Took my girlfriend who is not from a football background to the game and she asked several times why they don't just try having a shot? I said to her we ask that same question every week season after season... :sigh:

Hoole was at his usual best. Makes a complete balls-up of nearly every play, and when you think he's just made a brilliant run he tries to fire it THROUGH a defender instead of laying it off the man who is completely open and screaming for the ball.
Hoole makes that pass to Noddy, Noddy one on one with the keeper. 2-1 up easily.

Kid needs to have a long hard look at himself and his playing future, because playing like crap for 3 games, and then having a blinder is far too inconsistent for the majority of leagues Worldwide. At this point he would struggle to make an NPL side with that kind of inconsistent play. Maybe some time back in some lower leagues might teach him how to play with heart for the jersey again?

Kokko and Noddy looked good together till they both broke down.
Jackson and Johhny K worked far better together at the back than I thought they would. Surely both should easily push Mullen out of the squad for next weekend?

I thought Kanta moved the ball better than Poljak when he came on. His introduction was about when the Jets started regaining the dominance.

But the bench selection I 100% agree with. Someone rightly pointed out that we have 2 strikers who either haven't played recently or don't last the 90 - so why not have a striker on the bench.

I feel like as a playing group the Jets fear the Marinators rather than revel in the challenge of a local derby. Every time we play them we become timid and can't get the ball under control. Jones either needs to put the fear of Griff into them and get them biting from the get go, or switch off the entire thing and just play the game like it's against a top four side. I swear if we just hid the table from this team and told them we were playing the 2nd place team every week we would win the league. Definite lack of confidence within this team starting to bleed through.

Kokko and Clut can point to the fact the coach doesn't believe in them but Hoole and Nabbout have no excuse. They have scored goals all year against better sides, they get picked every week no matter what. They have no excuse for being timid.

Also, i didn't like Nobby in behind the striker. In attack it was good but i thought it weakened us in the middle as a result. If we want all out attack then yes, but if we want control of midfield than i'd say no. Just my illegitimate 2 cents worth.

The hooking of Poljak and the bringing on of Kanta saw the Jets actually get control of the midfield and get into the game

Otherthan about the 90th min we had the entire run of the game in the time Kanta came on

His substitution actually was attacking

Problem was the halfwits on the park didnt take advantage of it

We score a goal or two in the last 30 mins which we should have then the Kanta subis the tactical masterstroke that won us the game

You dont need strikers on the bench to change games big man
