Why do the Jets continually use the short corner?

I have watched every Jnr Jets game in the NBN. I wish I had keep a note of every short corner that resulted in nothing. It would have to be close to 90% nothing. Not even a shot on goal.

Now, it appears the senior squad are short corner obsessed. Can someone explain why the Jets have decided to use the short corner as the ONLY method. Does anybody know of any top flight team anywhere in the world that uses the short corner as the prime attacking corner option?

I am over it!!!

to be honest, i can hardly recall us ever scoring a goal from a corner into the mixer, either. maybe a couple at the most? whether that's from not playing them, i couldn't tell you.

we've had this conversation on here before, can anyone remember the outcome?

With the youth doing it, I can understand. They aren't the tallest blokes in the league and keeping it on the ground would help them.

As for the seniors? If Tiago, Regz and Mitchell are in the box, send it in ffs, seems a waste for them to push up and not send it in.

it is a long way to kick the ball all the way from the side, cut them some slack

I'd like to see you do it

The reason they play short corners is to keep possession. It's certainly not about scoring goals.

Right or wrong, as a fan I hate it.

its because no-one who takes them in the first team can get the ball past the first defender on the 6yrd box.

go back and roll the tape, I reckon the closest SONG ever got to a decent corner was when he ran over the ball to let someone else take it.

we suck at long corners.... also helps passing stats if the two over the ball knock it back and forth a few times before getting closed down.

Marko Jesic.

Marko Jesic.

Oh FFS, when Jeffers came and had the brilliant solution of letting the best passer in the team (Wehrman at the time) take the corners instead of Jesic and we go on to score a few.

Jesic = shit.

Wehr's your boy Wehrman now?

Last I saw him, the old Royal Hospital site.

Wasn't taking Wehrman's side over GvE, just making the point that when Branks decided to let Wehrman take corners, we scored more often (and got about 100% more into a dangerous area).

Very rare indeed.

at the intra-club trial at the uni, every corner was short.

i don't think they will do it everytime when it comes to the bigtime, the a-league games, but i think they're using it as much as possible in practice & games that don't matter so they do it well when they actually want to do it in games.

q is right - i can remember jade north scoring off a corner from a header, and not too many more. maybe adam griffiths with a diving header off a freekick in a position similar to a corner.

a griff knocked a couple in from corners and set pieces on memory

queerman did have a decent delivery on him and jesic used to hit them out for a goal kick.

solution to the problem: Sarkies the dead ball specialist

Barca does it a lot.
We wear same shirts as Barca.
Therefore we do it too.
Deans knows that playing like Barca wins you stuff.

Somewhere down south Craig Foster faps himself into a frenzy.

Wasn't zelic's only goal from a corner?

Went to the Jnr Jets game last night and could not believe the number of long corners played. At least 50%. And it appears we are shit at these as well.

From Jets Insider:

@almcgoo asks via Twitter: GVE, please explain why the club has decided to utilise the short corner as the primary corner taking option?

GvE: Right at this moment it’s because we haven’t gone through set pieces in any great depth at this stage of the pre-season and we’d rather keep the ball than do something we haven’t practiced.
In the next phase of the pre-season we’ll be looking more and more at the different corners we want to take, but at the moment it’s more a case of taking short corners to get the ball back into play, rather than any real tactic behind it.
