If Gallop and Lowy have any brains they should be on the blower right now working out ways to milk this

Making sure this blokes legacy of what he done for the code in this country should be pushed and not forgotten

Yea, no one was getting the TISM reference were they.
Les was the voice of my footballing childhood, Sunday World Game and Italian Football highlights.

No it not about exploiting him for financial benefit
It about making sure this blokes legacy is actually firmly established not just to the football community but to the entire country

I'll always remember the time of anticipation as we football nuts in the Hunter eagerly awaited the arrival of SBS
in 1983 (https://web.archive.org/web/20070302020843/http://www20.sbs.com.au/sbscorporate/index.php?id=1201)? on UHF28. The world opened up through world news, movies...and of course football.
Les Murray was the man who was the face of football for a generation, hungry for video of international matches
and of course the World Cups SBS and Les has covered along the way.
I'm proposing a minutes silence before 1st grade kicks off with Cookers v New Lambton Old Boys Day this Saturday
out of respect for what the man did to influence the way we know football in this country today.
RIP Les Murray

very sad news, he had been conspicuous by his absence from the scene in recent times, obviously due to his illness - can't really think of anyone on the local football broadcasting scene who is fit to tie Les' bootstraps TBH, gonna be missed...

The tributes have been wonderful to watch and read.
There will continue to be more and more "famous people" passing, and we only have to look in the thread on this forum.
What I hope, and think will happen, is we start to tell these people they're ****ing awesome while they're still alive. Tell them the impact they'de made in their field. A little positivity never hurt anyone.

There very little wrong with the way I wrote it the first time
It was you who jumped to conclusions and interpreted it the way you did

Yeah, "working out ways to milk this" has absolutely no negative connotations at all.

Fitting the bloke is getting a state funeral
On another note have the FFA had anything to say about Les??
Because I seen words from Turnbull Shorten and the Beak and every other celebrity
I ain't seen anything yet from Lowy or Gallop??

“Les turned the term “the world game” into a reality for millions of Australians. He had unmatched passion along with his great friend the late Johnny Warren MBE OAM for what football could be and how to take it there, " said Gallop.

I don't understand this. Do people really not see that Fozzie is a superb analyst; far, far better than Les ever was? Fozzie's also a far better advocate of the game. I just don't get the Foz hate.
Rest in peace, Les.

Foz actually is an excellent analyst
Problem is that he isn't respected enough
He was a modest player
He has done nothing as a manager
Yet he carries on like he invented Tikka Takka and over does it
His analysis at times is bigoted towards his views

Id say even blokes as cocooned as Shorten and Turnbull would be well aware of who Les was and what he was about. But yeah the PR dept was def scouring wikipedia for some info.
As for Gallop, this is one area where i rate him. he obviously didnt know Les all that well to treat him as a BFF so he didnt roll out the crocodile tears to put himself front and centre. He just acknowledged it from an FFA position then got out of the way to let Les' real mates and fans have their say. Gallop has always come from a place of awkward honesty in times like this. I think its a good thing.

He was a modest player
Foz played in England's first division when it was probably the world's third-best league.
Yes, he was also voted into Palace's all-time worst XI, but he played at a far higher level than most Australians and was a Socceroo midfielder when the competition was very strong.
As for managing, his work with Nerds FC is legendary.

Foz cops it sometimes I think because for a while there Spanish football was the be all and end all of his football views, and sometimes he just comes over as a bit "smug".
He knows his stuff though.
How about this vid of Les on Facebook...

Kudos to Foz and Damian who spoke well with emotion in trying circumstances.

Attended the great man's fineral...sick as a dog. These days they would have bundled me off in a Divi van.
Hang on. These days, it would have been streamed!
I'm not good with the graphics side of things on da Foz but I could share photos I took on the day with Boz?
Maybe he could post them...or save them for 5 yrs.
I still attribute the changing of SC to FC with my club to both Johnny & Les.
And trying to get the pronunciation of a persons name right lies squarely with Les alone.
Legend.
