Birraz in goals of course. id have at CDM as a deep lying playmaker/recycle possesion role Stevie urgarkovic, his energy and movment would be crucial. Then i would have two roaming playmakers who can dribble which would be castaleen and broich and upfront id pick Adam taggart seeing as he's signed for perth and his pace and first touch shooting would be handy

We started to discuss ideas to improve the podcast, one improvement we are considering is that the main podcast is too long.
We are instead looking at 2 separate smaller podcasts. A 45 minute match review podcast - to be available tuesday, and a 30 minute match preview podcast - to be available friday.
The Jetstream Extra material (presser/postgame fan interviews) would be included in the review podcast, and the preview podcast would include an interview with an opposition supporter, club news and listener correspondence.
Thoughts?

I'll add to what Furns has said that this year we have started to review the Youth team, establish ties with the W-League team and also interviewed the PowerChair team.
People from within these teams are willing to give us their time to update results as well.
Are listeners interested in any of these? Because if you are, we'll put in the work to strengthen those ties.

Who was your player of the season?

Thoughts and assessment on Scott Miller's performance?
good first year - started from well behind the pack and has got us back to just over Par
Best moment of the season?
the spoon throwing, it was good to see some humour back at the games

What do you like about the pod?

Alright, so what are your responses on the questions asked on the pod -
Who over-achieved for the Jets this season?
Cameron Watson. For a bloke who was as bad as him to get as much game time was a huge achievement
Who under achieved this year for the Jets?
Boogaard. I recall numerous games he didn't get sent off in. Room for improvement
Who was your player of the season?
Birraz. Saved our arse every game
Thoughts and assessment on Scott Miller's performance?
Par. Started off playing like a coward but at least had the balls to front the fans after a diabloical performance V Heart. Then changed things and had a go and we looked much better. Still not convinced as he had a pretty easy gig to make us look competitive each week. Next season more defining
Best moment of the season?
First Derby win at Shittounge. It meant a lot after years of failure. The second one although by a bigger margin was expected and to be fair we beat a Yoof team and should have won by much more
Best game of the season?
Jagging the first win of the season in Wellington
And Bon - I hope you passed my message on to your mate.

Also, we're interested in people's thought on the pod.
What do you like about the pod?
its regularity
What would you change?
don't review every player every week - just talk about the defence as a whole, the midfield as a whole and the attack as a whole, and maybe how any subs impacted the match - each player one by one, by each panellist gets a bit repetitive.... doing each line as group allows 1 person to say something about Boogs, and the next bloke to say something about Mullen, and the next says something about Cowburn, rather than a whole heap of "I agree with Dave etc etc'
Were you previously a listener and stopped? Why did you stop?
Would you like more player/sponsor/fan interviews?
I loved the interviews - keep 'em coming

Who over-achieved for the Jets this season?
Nick Cowburn. And I expect/hope his achievements to get bigger each year.
Who under achieved this year for the Jets?
Mitch Cooper. He was the shining light of the back end of last season and was barely a presence this year.
Who was your player of the season?
Mateo Poljak.
Thoughts and assessment on Scott Miller's performance?
Learnt to tie the double-windsor to perfection.
Best moment of the season?
The first Gosford away.
Best game of the season?
The first Gosford away.
What do you like about the pod?
The Simpsons jokes.
What would you change?
Needs more dog.
Were you previously a listener and stopped? Why did you stop?
Yes. It got less interesting without me.
Would you like more player/sponsor/fan interviews?
Player - yes. Sponsor - meh. Fan - maybe.
What is the ideal length of the pod (we aim for ~1hr episodes)?
The longer the better.

Saw these questions late woops
Who over-achieved for the Jets this season?
Hoffman Wasn't happy with his signing at the time. Boy did he prove me and dear i say everyone wrong. Super consistent and great defending most weeks
Who under achieved this year for the Jets?
Enver 100% was total garbage whats the point of running your arse off all game if it leads to nothing in terms of goals and assists
Who was your player of the season?
Only one answer Birraz. Without him were wooden spooners no question.
Thoughts and assessment on Scott Miller's performance?
ill give him a C grade. some poor recruitment and tactics early on. Then took too long to make changes when plan A didnt work but recruited well from January onwards and the team started to play really well and last half of the season was a pleasure to watch
Best moment of the season?
Gosford 1-0 and the crowd and players reactions
Best game of the season?
Home game 3-2 vs Wellington Super Nordy Nordstrand to the rescue

Were you previously a listener and stopped? Why did you stop?
haven't stopped since i discovered it start of last season
Would you like more player/sponsor/fan interviews?
Player and Sponsor interviews would be fantastic more often if possible. Fan interviews are fine the way they are.
What is the ideal length of the pod (we aim for ~1hr episodes)?
My ideal length would be as long as it takes to talk about everything Jets for that week. If that takes more than 1 hr no problem for me (gives me something to listen to at work for longer)

Who over-achieved for the Jets this season?
Nick Cowburn, unquestionably. Signed to a NYL contract and not meant to see any game time yet played his way into the starting team
Who under achieved this year for the Jets?
Milos Trifunovic - Miller talked him up as possibly the signing of the season in the A-League. Played ok but definitely under achieved.
Who was your player of the season?
Birraz was outstanding with Hoffman a close second
Thoughts and assessment on Scott Miller's performance?
If you consider that there was no club, facilities or team and they started completely from scratch, I would give Miller top marks. By rights we should have collected another wooden spoon but Miller brought belief to the team and got them playing for each other. Too many people question his reluctance to change the formation rather than looking at the inflexible squad he inherited.
Best moment of the season?
Nordstrand's goal v Wellington. Having followed the Jets since inception the number of hands down cracking goals has been few and far between. This one was special.
Best game of the season?
Really surprised no one mentions this game, but the 3-2 win over Melbourne City in Melbourne was my highlight. 2-0 down with 30 to go, Kanta gets pushed into the No 10 and plays the game of his life. 3 goal turn around, first time coming back from 2-0 down I believe, and a Trfiunovic winner at the death.

What do you like about the pod?
That you analyse the game and give solid evidence based opinion. Its interesting and their is a vacuum of that on this forum generally
What would you change?
I like the format style approach. Where you stick to a set agenda each podcast. Include sections like Game Analysis, Recruitment News, off field News, up coming game etc. When you go off script it can be a little rambling. In jokes don't translate well for the listener and, dare I ever say it for being branded as the fun police, pods on the cans don't go well. Don't review the performance of every single player, just the standouts.
Basically I think you have made a great grasp of a semi serious podcast with good analysis. Keep the serious angle to it and you will continue to be respected for it.
Were you previously a listener and stopped? Why did you stop?
Took up listening half way through the year and enjoy it ever since.
Would you like more player/sponsor/fan interviews?
Definitely. They were really interesting.
What is the ideal length of the pod (we aim for ~1hr episodes)?
I like the hour pod, but if only you have the content thats interesting. I wouldn't be afraid to edit down to 30-60mins to keep the product interesting

As Furns mentioned on the end of season Pod, the format is going to change next year with a Monday recorded/Tuesday release "Review & fan interview" pod and Thursday recorded/Friday release Preview (including an opposition fan where possible)& news pod. We will be splitting the team up a bit as well so that we can have fewer (~3) and we don't have to get tied up.
Seriously, anyone who wants to get involved just needs a PC and a microphone. Those recorded over Skype you just need your mobile...it's not expensive to participate - just your time. So please, anyone come forward.

Another Ex-Jet episode in the bank last night. Cheers to Zenon Caravella for taking the time to speak with us.
We spoke about joining the team, how he enjoyed his football under Clayton Zane, revealed some things I didn't know about when he first retired, his return to the team and his new perspective on life and finally what he's doing now. I was really surprised at the player he learned the most from - a former Breakers player!
Hope you enjoy the listen when it's published (after the Taylor Regan interview).
We hope to have Ned Zelic on the podcast next week.
Are there any ex-players who you would like to hear from? Can anyone help with access to any of ex-players who might like to have a chat? For example, anyone know where Steve Eagleton is?

In all seriousness, these interviews are great. Really interesting stuff. The sounds of the coffee shop just add to the appeal as I imagine helps the Reegs and the like relax and speak freely.
With a little more polish, i can see interviews like this on radio during the A-League season.

Just to add, what makes your interviews interesting is that you are an obsessed fan like all of us with an attention to detail. You are asking the questions that fans want to hear and not the cliched questions you get in regular interviews. When you ask about say game 10 in Season 7 incident, no interviewer remembers that. But us fans know what you are talking about and are dying to hear the answer.
So yes, am a big fan

Thanks so much for the feedback Borat. I've been wondering how they'd been received and whether people were enjoying the format. I'd actually been doubting my approach.
I am always mindful to take the diplomatic approach. We know the shit that went down around the Stubbins time but I try to ask what it was like for the player and how they responded. That's the bit where you really get to know and understand how they think. I try to make it relaxed and have a few common questions so the players can have a joke too.
Hopefully you enjoy the Zenon interview which is released next week.

listening to the podcast at the moment, just wondered re Chinese players, would think the women's team would be stronger than the men's, could Martin bring in a Chinese international marquee perhaps to the W-League team, or youth international even? Still think the seating issue is bringing it inline with the Knights gold area in particular, but I hope it does mean more Gold members move into bay 55, sick of other team's supporters taking premium seating there every match, shits me no end...

Had a listen to the Zenon interview, for the record yes it was his father that passed away.
Comes across as a very genuine guy Zenon with no airs or graces, which is why he enjoyed his time here and the Newcastle culture of just rolling up your sleeves, working hard and having a go.....pretty much the way he described it himself.
Enjoyed his insight into coaching and he feels that it is more important how a coach manages his players and their different personalities to get the best out of them rather then just "coaching" them how to play football.
Jeterpool (David) you are a natural mate, thorough professional who obviously does his homework. Have listened to the Reegz interview and now this one with Zenon, both about half an hour long but totally absorbing listening. Great stuff!
Now if we can only somehow track down Ljubo....wouldn't that be some interview!!!

Yeah, so true.
A favourite saying of Ange is to "get the players to buy into your philosphy".
If the players aren't "buying into" or believing in you as a coach and your methods, you end up with the situation we had with Stubbins where the coach loses the "dressing room" or is it "sheds" or whatever...

Lawrie is definitely big on engaging with fans and the community as a whole, that came across very strongly in the interview. I think we will get more transparency under him then all of his predecessors, probably going as far back as John Tsastimas who I thought was the best CEO we've had. Likes of Eland and Middleby seemed to be afraid to open up and just be up front, McKinna doesn't seem to be afraid to answer questions, like he said at the beginning of the interview "It's all part of the job of being CEO".
Most disappointing thing from the interview is that it seems we are destined to be playing the majority of our home games in the afternoon timeslot forever and a day now. The club can only request the timeslots but FFA and Fox will have the final say in kick off time scheduling. This sucks but the reality is that Fox pump huge $$$ into the game and so pick and choose the fixture scheduling.

Was interesting to hear what both McKinna and Miller had to say about the Chinese Development player. I thought McKinna stated the obvious which is that squaddies in China are worth a fortune and we are going to struggle to get any player to come here who is any good. Miller seems pretty peeved about the whole situation in how guarded his responses are. I wouldn't mind if the chinese player was signed as a marquee just so that there is actually some salary cap left for the striker.

Was a time saving thing with boiled water and that's the way my old man used to do it. The hot water would warm the milk I poured on. My wife can't stand how I eat mine. She has to have them cold and is disappointed our son eats them how I do - mind you it's easier for him to scoop them up

I’m looking for some assistance and contributors.
I’m working on a project for the Jetstream to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Grand Final win by recalling the season through the eyes of the fans and the players over a series of pods. While it's a long way off, these things don’t get pulled together over night.
I’d really like to speak with anyone willing to give me some time to get your view or recount on games during the season (stories related to the team). This could be from away days, vantage points of goals, involvement in TIFO – particularly those involved in the Grand Final TIFO, memorable games such as the first away win in Gosford, the entire finals series, the win in Melbourne where we came from behind and Griff scored an amazing free-kick.
If you’d like to give some of your time to speak with me, please PM what matches or memories you’d like to talk about me and we can organise to chat.
Cheers - JP

Why would we want to change a winning combination ?
This is true, but when looking at the game against brisbane, we really came into our own in the second half with devante on the pitch. I reckon he'd easily have it in him to play a full game, and he is a natural no.10.
Back in the finnish league i'm of the belief that brown was more comfortably a midfielder or defensive mid then he was an attacking mid. No one i feel would argue that Brown seems to be a better player then Kanta or Poljak
I understand the idea of if it ain't broke dont fix it, was more spitballin an idea that could work maybe at a point in the second half, and if it goes well maybe implement it for a full game

for our starting XI, would moving Brown next to Ugarkovic and slotting Devante to were Brown is be worth a shot?
This is exactly what I would do, but play both Nordstrand and Clut as false 9's. The Wanderers look shakey at back imo and constantly hassling their CBs I think will bring goals. I also don't think Nordstrand is at his best at the point without a partner.
Bring Labi off the bench in the 2nd half.

Apologies for the quality of the audio in the preview this week everyone. We thought something may have been going on but not as bad as we thought. Was trying to do some repairs on the run while hosting which is why it may seen a bit disjointed/vague and some issues weren't discussed.

Very interesting listening back to your interview pod with Lawrie from July considering what happened since.
Lawrie discusses the Jets needed to recruit a strength and conditioning coach and Mark Jones's name get lobbed up. Lawrie says he is a mate and too good for S&C coach as is a head head coach.
Then discusses how he has known Trani for 30 years and sees the combination with Miller as somewhat an odd couple.

Mammoth 90 min episode will be available in the morning at 7am. Reason its so big is becuase there wasnt much point doing separate preview and review episodes as they would have needed to be recorded a day apart.
So its all in the one episode.
Plus, people can compare it to the new format and let us know whether you prefer separate review/preview episodes or the old combined format.

Loved the pod, When you all said Kanta for who was is gonna be sent off I laughed hard as i also said Kanta straight away in my head. I also agree Nobby may need a bench spell but i feel Kokko needs someone close to him to be effective. Hoole i think needs an ego check on the bench or a spell in youth league for confidence

Cheers - JP
Thanks to those who have got in touch with me so far. Just a reminder, I am still looking ofr people to speak with. Have a read of the post above and if you can add something, I'd like to talk with you!

I'm really sorry, but I'm struggling. I have six podcasts yet to download and I just can't do it. I didn't sign up as a member to this club to witness endless losses. Actually, I haven't signed up at all, but the point is that there are many plastic fans like me out there who need to taste a little success before we really hook into the whole culture of being a Jets supporter.
So sorry again, but I can't listen until there's a little hope. Keep up what is probably the good work in the meantime.
P.S. Remember that most smartphone users these days are using Android, so don't gauge your success solely through iTunes.

A podcast is meant for the time - no point listening to a preview of the F3 derby three weeks after the event. If you don't listen to it within 2-3 days forget it.
I find the best podcasting in football is from the teams struggling - you really hear the pain and frustration of the fans and some great discussion is generated. Listen to podcasts at Sunderland and West Ham right now, fascinating.
need to taste a little success before we really hook into the whole culture of being a Jets supporter.WTF - you don't know what supporting a football team is about if you only want to deal with a successful team.
And I think the boys know iTunes isn't everything (unless they are real Apple fanbois) - I listen to them on Podcast Addict and desktop for example.

I think you need to broaden your understanding of football support. It's a broad church. If it only included hardcore, rusted-on fans, the stadium would have a few hundred people watching only.
Fans like me matter, too. Call us plastic, or fairweather, or sh|t, we are also an important demographic. I don't expect my club to win all the time. Hey, I ditch Victory to (kind of) support the Jets: you can't accuse me of being attracted to success. But the Jets are wearing me down. It's not only the results. It's the vibe, comrade. Plastics can't deal with this sh|t forever.

Cheers for the thoughts guys. Understandable that you may not be motivated to listen to them, I think the fact we had nearly 3000 less supporters on sunday than the previous home game are also in the same boat.
I hope though that we are still giving ppl some sort of entertainment even if we are discussing recent poor performances.

Yep, unfortunately with the holidays and only able to get the one recording session organised it ends up being a longer than normal episode.
Hopefully ppl still enjoy it.
For feedback, would ppl prefer a longer episode being broken up into smaller episodes released at the same time, or stick with the one long episode?
And I know what you mean about the three points dropped, but I think most ppl realised they meant two.
