Okay, the real Furns is on holiday in Bali at the moment and has asked me to relay the following message....

"TheJetstream Podcast has confirmed we are interviewing Gary Van Egmond & a senior player as well as Jets CEO Robbie Middleby & HSG Commercial Director Jarrod Johnstone on 26/6/12.

This will be a fan forum interview where all of your questions will be put to the interviewees and responses recorded for the podcast.

Please email all questions to podcast@newcastlefootball.net or tweet @newyboys with #jetstreamfanforum by 6pm 24/6/12"

This was posted on the foz's fb page before the foz was resurrected..... So I imagine you could just add your questions in here too.

To the fake Furns who registered on here before the little drummer boy got a chance.... Well played you cheeky scoundrel.

To everybody else, I need all questions posted in here, emailed to podcast@newcastlefootball.net or tweeted with hash tag #jetstreamfanforum by midnight tonight.
I am interviewing GVE and a senior player (Jobe/RyGriff/Bridges), then Robbie Middleby and Jarrod (HSG) so any and all questions you want to ask the club/HSG, now is the time to ask them.

Q : Would the club consider having a Members Player of the Year Award, voted on by all the members that join up before say the final third of the season starts. This player award would be presented at the annual jets award's night, preferably by a lucky member who voted for them, personally I'd be like to see it selected from the junior members as it would give them a kick giving an award over to their fav player. Ideally this would be expanded to include the player being awarded the members number "12" for the next season, should the player leave the number would be retired for the season until the next members player is awarded, this would of course wait until after Jobe has retired as he currently holds the number. I think it would help engage members and give another great benefit to being a member & would help create our own piece of tradition emphasizing membership.

Q. After months during which the Jets have made many changes, from wiping out the advisory board to releasing most of the Jets experienced players - replacing them with unknown, unproven, inexperienced and more importantly, cheaper youngsters - why should Jets fans renew their memberships, when it seems as though the Jets main objective in the off-season has been cost cutting?

Q. The club has not filled either of their two marquee positions - why not? Other clubs do not seem to have such difficultly in finding appropriate players to fill these roles.

Q. Will the club consider re-introducing the post match function ? It was very popular with the previous ownership and allowed fans to mingle with the players.

are the plans to play feature friendly matches against real Madrid, Barcelona, arsenal, manure, etc still in the works, and when will these be happening? also, what time of year actually suits to play these matches, seeing as though our season starts then finishes during theirs?

what is the situation with Joel griffiths? adelaide united fans have been able to have active communication via a non-FFA website made by Adelaide united, and they have been able to ask and receive the most up to date info on where Marco Flores stands as a possible transfer target, his contractual standpoint, and have been informed as to the clubs movements towards getting him back as it is clear he is the one and only thing the fans want. can we have an update on whether or not the jets have been listening to the fans, and have made movements to sign griffiths to the team as a permanent signing? if there have been movements at all, can we have the same details (how much money he's asking, how much is available from the jets side of the negotiations, how keen the jets actually are to signing him) that Adelaide fans have been gifted with Flores?

last seasons podcast, jarryd & Robbie said a fan-designed jersey is a thing they would look into but not for last season as isc struggled to even make kits for back then. when can we expect to be able to have input into jersey design? when are we going to see some emerald and cinnamon in our kits?

will our keepers be wearing yellow jerseys, the same colours as our main rivals, next season as they did this season?

my question is for furns:

when you said senior player (jobe/ryu/bridges) are those the three the club said they might send to it, or were they the only senior (aka over 21) players you could think of in the squad?

also, how was bali?

Q: With the club adopting the Blue & Red kit for home and the fact it won't be changing much is the club looking at changing the Alternate kit more often, say change the Home kit every 2-3 years but change the alternate each year the home does not change. With Western Sydney now in the competition with club colours of black white & red this seems like a great chance to change our alternate kit to pay some respect to the formation of KB united in 1977 & next season would be a good chance to recognise the 5th anniversary of newcastle's maiden championship all whilst avoiding clashes.

West sydney have announced plans to "de-eel" parramatta stadium (see link) to make the venue more "football" ..... Does HSG plan to make moves towards seeing Hunter stadium reflect the fact that the ground is shared...

1 Perhaps naming the new stand after a footballing identity.... Reg date, Cheryl Salisbury, ray baartz.
2. Putting up a "Champions 2008" fence sign like the knights premierships have been posted for some time.
3. Where ever you we a knight badge, put a jets one next to it.
4. Name the hills - KB United hill.

what is the status in regards to the hsg-owned-and-built club for fans to drink at pregame, and during away games? if i recall correctly there was talk of something like this in the podcast last year.

if this is still in the works, is there provision in the plans to have a pool?

I don't mind them being held on different days imo, good for those lazy Sunday afternoons or when the senior team plays away that weekend.
If you have them as a curtain raiser, kick-off has to be about 3 hours earlier than the senior game. How many people would actually turn up for that? Based on the game played last season against the AIS, < 1000 people probably.

I think there should be a couple maybe, but it's better the way it is in terms of cost and convenience for the majority of games to be played outside of the senior match day.

robbie genuinely believes it's a non-issue that our keepers wear our main rivals colours at any time. remember the uproar liverpool fans had when blue featured on their kits?

also he has a faint memory - he said they'd never wear the mariners colours when playing against the mariners.

game 1 away v coast:
http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii553/pv4zanewy/ImageResizerashxnhttp3a2f2fihaymarketnetau2fGaller ies2f20111210075512_135438056_10.jpg

not only did they wear the mariners colours, they wore both of their colours over two games.

how is it difficult in terms of getting ISC to make different coloured keepers kits, as robbie said it was? it's easy, it's a one-coloured kit without patterns! the amount of teams ISC service in football, surely there's more keepers colours than navy blue & yellow (and the green they wear too).

Don't think they understood the idea about changing the names of the grandstands for Jets games.

Fobbed it off as a NSW Government decision to name the stands.

Can't see why for Football matches the Jets/ Hunter Stadium can't refer to the Andrew Johns Stand as ........ Joel Griffiths stand instead the next day it can go back to being the Andrew Johns Stand

Knights changed the eastern stand name when they were in charge, now the government runs it and to change the name of the stand is their decision.
There are plenty of other problems higher on the list at that stadium before the naming of a stand. If you're that passionate about it buy your membership in the western stand in the upper tier and make your own banner to hang every home game.

What colour should they wear then ?

If it was me I'd start with gold for the R&B kit , then have a plain black or white for clashes, or maybe a plain emerald or plain cinnamon different colours that won't clash with other HAL clubs and have some meaning for our club/region.

The most disappointing thing to hear for me was that they were considering a replica kb kit with replica kb logo's, now due to the FFA taking that government anti-binge drinking campaign sponsorship no HAL club is allowed to have alcohol sponsors which basically rules it out, would have been awesome to get a KB sponsored E & C jets kit.

Personally i find it a bit gimmicky anyway, would much rather wait and honour our history with a lasting legacy. I was much more impressed with the idea of using projections and banners at the front of the stadium to create a greater feeling of entering the jets stadium, the strange thing is why the original design for the stadium didn't allow for these sorts of things to be easily done. Could be cool to see a rolling history of Newcastle football images projected up on the centre panel of the western stand as you walk in.

I also liked the answers about the jets championship being honoured at the stadium hopefully they can get it & the knights stuff ok'd by NSW venues.

Agreed. And most things they didn't jump at, they gave good sound reasons for being hesitant. Calm heads.

The only thing I didn't like them saying was "hsg have only been here for 2 yrs" ...... Its a legitimate message in some regards, but not if used to deflect from something fans have been wanting for years, not just 8, but since 1978.

All in all they were great responses.
It's now actions we need to see.

Yes and yes.
I'd start a new thread on it, maybe in the local forum section, so it's easier for folk to find.

I'd like to know more about the "northern alliance" or if nnsw have investigated investing in any all weather facilities that may attract or build a strong five a side comp in the 35+ age group that might elevate some of the pressure on grass pitches throughout the region.

I am not being a smart arse here but I did hear GVE harping on the other week about the lack of football wet weather facilities available in the Newy region.

Not being 100% on the subject but are the hockey fields on Turton Road unsuitable for this purpose?? After all they are smooth and flat, a similar sized field, they pump water on them regularly to prevent abrasion and obviously have people falling on them regularly with no notable Ambulance run going from there to John Hunter regularly.

What is stopping these things from being used??

GazFish35
07-07-2012, 05:01 PM
Hockey turf isn't the same as football specific artificial turf..... Bounce of the ball and all that.
Hockey is firmer underfoot and sucks balls to play football on.

Also, hockey use it.

MFKS

But could it be used as a training facility for the Jets form time to time in the event of really bad weather in Newy without risking any damage to players until something more suitable is available??

Ok
But could it be used as a training facility for the Jets form time to time in the event of really bad weather in Newy without risking any damage to players until something more suitable is available??

if you can find a reasonable timeslot, the place is pretty solidly booked. plus the turf floats in really heavy weather, the football pitches are quite different, wider piles and not as much rubber underneath.

the university should look at putting in an artificial pitch, similar to UNSW who have put one in, in use all the time, great money spinner

seymour shaw in sutho has made them one of the richest associations in syndey (i think)

So what we are talking about is something similar to the plastic pitches introduced in the 80's in England to QPR Preston NE and Luton but with some more modern day technology that will have ironed out some of the flaws these things had

q-money
07-07-2012, 06:40 PM
i think they're much different to the old ones that you're talking about, i've only had a short kick around on the UNSW one, like you said the problems have been ironed out.

the bounce is comparable to grass, same as the roll, plus there's no bumps etc. i'd happily play on it, but i grew up playing hockey on astroturf so i'm used to it.

i watched a game of women's AA on it after, so I can't give you much information as to what a proper game of football is like on it, though.

Not overtly flustered on Flores. Bloke may have put some good goals in when at Adelaide to make some good YouTube vids but he isn't exactly a team player.

Very lazy defensively and would not fit into our team dynamic much like KFC Hernandez.

Pleasing aspect GVE was pretty honest with a few things. Claiming his man management skills etc need improving and it is an area that he is lacking in.

Always a great sign when you can admit your own faults and not be in denial.

Griffo comments show promise. Speaks to Joel regularly. Keen to have him back. Would fit into set up well etc.

Maybe it ain't the clubs fault Griff hasn't resigned maybe the pressure needs to be applied to Joel to man up, return home and lead the Newy Charge to the HAL title

New Jetstream Podcast now available. In this edition we asked 5 players 10 questions each. Players interviewed were Jobe, BK, Bridgy, RyGriff and Mitch Cooper.
If people like the format, I will try to get back up to another training session and interview some more players with the same questions.

lol that wasnt the intention but good to see the locals stick up for the place and the worst thing people said was coffee prices or the weather.

As I posted on twitter earlier today, a big thanks to all the Jetstream listeners.
We averaged 150 listeners for each of the four latest podcast episodes posted in the last two weeks.

If people can share the episodes on FB and twitter to get the word out so we can grow it even more that would be great and much appreciated.

Its been a while since I have had the time to get anything done for the podcast lads, is there anyone in Newy that would like to help out? Living in sydney and having two kids makes it massively difficult to do anything other than host a skype convo.

Will look at a Jetstream podcast recording session after the derby. But I need more regular content - ie post match interviews. All you need is record them on your phone and send them to me.

furns
12-03-2013, 09:21 PM
Yes, I am looking at getting a season review edition done - probably during the finals which we may or may not be involved in.

I ask people in here to help out and see if anyone is interested, and I get little to no response. I do thank those who have put their hands up though, due to a variety of reasons we havent been able to get everyone online at the same time.

As far as the interviews and postgame stuff, I live in Sydney, have a family and drive the MDR to almost every home game as it is. I dont have the time to be able to hang around for an hour after the game to interview players. Again, I asked if people were interested at start of the season to help out and make things easier but no-one responded.

If I was single and living in Newcastle I would be pumping out an episode every week, but I dont. As with the fanzine, if people want these things to be a part of the supporter culture they need to put their hands up and get involved.

after a long hiatus I have been having fruitful discussions with the football banter guys from twitter to have them on the podcast and see how it goes to making it into a regular monthly edition. Looks like we will be recording a season preview edition in the next few weeks.
Depending on how it goes we may ask for other contributors as well but so far it looks like initially it will be myself, fat_lenny, b5Grant and Aaron Kearney.

I am also keen on doing the fan forum-style podcasts again but I think I may do them once the season is underway.

As usual, I need post game interviewers to grab some short interviews with the players after each game so if anyone is keen (all you need is a smartphone) please PM me. I would like to grow the podcast this year and include more content but living in Sydney I cant do it all on my own. People need to get involved.

Let me know when it is and if any of us can't do it, I am sure some of the other Football Banter guys can be lined up. We are trying to have another banter session before the season kicks of as well, don't know if you could get some audio at that as well?

I will drive up to Newy and bring along my laptop and mics, we just record us all having a chat about Jets (probably have to structure it a little though)

If we were to ask the players a question for the podcast would a media pass also be required? No not at training. When I did it I would usually let the Jets know I was coming, and then approached the players introducing myself as from the supporters website/jetstream podcast.

You generally need the media passes to attend the press conferences. And I have been rejected every season when I have applied for one since season 5.

Any chance to add a few segments that have been pre recorded to future efforts??

Ie Interview a few of the foz legends for their take on life etc

All three of the foz legends were on the last podcast m8.

In all seriousness, this is something we may look into for the future.

Does anyone have any other ideas of segments they'd like to see brought in?

Is there anything from the last podcast you think was wrong and would like to clarify?

And is there anything in particular you want to see us talk about in the next podcast?

As we get more comfortable and into a better routine, we're happy to take any and all suggestions and potentially add them in. Feel free to shoot ideas around if you think of them!

Awesome show lads, as a friend of the Gypo Sympathizer I was expecting no one else to get a word in but Furns hogged the mic and kept the ball rolling, loved it though, nice to hear some intelligent talk about the Jets.

I have subscribed, rated and reviewed and will be telling anyone that will listen to give it a try.

Along with more Mel and Tara, a player profile/interview would be nice, would give everyone a chance to get to know a player better than what a visit to Wikipedia provides.

Also a Logo for the iTunes picture, make it seem more legit ala Around the Bloc

For those who were wondering following last weeks pod, the Brisbane crowd was not the lowest of the Tinkler era. It was the 4th lowest.

The lowest is 3114 against the Melbourne Heart in S6.

I've not finished populating data on stadiums but that makes sense. WIP.

The next lowest is 6780 against Sydney Rd 26 S6. My recollection is that was a wet, miserable match. Howling rain. I think I left with the missus and went to Wests to watch it because of the weather.

Otherwise, the match against Brisbane is the lowest.

2 things came to mind.

Jump Club aka World Biggest Disco which Furns rightly identified and The JR.

How ****ing good were the nights in the Worlds Biggest Disco. Walk in smashed keep getting smashed and find a root or a fight guaranteed

Funny you should say this Member....I and others are looking at the possibility of a one off "Worlds Biggest Disco Reunion" at the Workies for charity.

Proof of age at the door (must be at least 40!), collared shirts compulsory, scatchy VHS 80s music videos shown on the big screen - half the people that go will have met there. And there will be ample opportunity for the singles to "grab a great-granny".

Just checking out the logistics and interest.

Surprised the thing hasn't been revisited already even if not for the generation who lived it but the new generation.

Pretty simple concept that went gangbusters back in the day.

Actually I have no idea ow the Woerkers Club didn't fold after it stopped 20% of Newy would have been Members and patronised the joint because of the WBD

Member left highly unsatisfied by doing things half arsed.

The Sheep Quiz answers not forthcoming and the reasons why should have taken up a large portion of the Podcast :sparring:

The situation where Pavicevic has been given a contract and the opportunities offered to Crowley and Cowburn highlight the travesty of the way Kale was treated.
Then add in the failings of the EJ system with Kale and our interest in signing Gypos instead of Kale

Podcast didn't delve deep enough
