This is a game we have the potential to win by 3 or 4 nil. However ill back a 2-1 win. They do have a good record in newcastle and have won a few away games this season.

I was OK to lose the Sydney game as long as we got the 6pts at home last night and Friday night. We need to keep that gap behind us. Doubt we’ll catch Sydney but now we need to start thinking about securing 2nd spot. City are away to CCM so I’m not expecting them to do us any favors. There’s no reason we shouldn’t go out from KO and try to put the game to bed by halftime. Brisbane have been all over the place this season and looked woeful in the last few matches I’ve watched.

I'm hoping the short turn around will benefit the Jets. The weather has been cooler, they'll have been taking it lightly at training. If they aren't fit or knwo the game plan now, they shouldn't be around the team.
Roar, despite having an extra day off, spent one of them travelling down here and likely just had a quiet run yetsreday arvo. Plus they have a number of players returning.
Focus on our own game and confident in our quality but be respectful of their quality too.

I think where we can get them is they are an old side
All HAL sides struggle with 3-4 day turnaround
We just ain't used to it
Being as old as they are we should run over them second half
I not expecting a vintage performance from us
I think we will struggle to go well but I believe in Bert that we will get the 3 points tonight

The team's at the top of the table usually struggled to thump us
That why we have had good records v Victree and Roar in the last 6-7 years
For whatever reason we aimed up against them
It the shit teams like Nix Heart Gypos Perth that we threw points away on

It's a bit left field, so hear me out, but I wonder it we will see Hoff deployed central tonight like we have at times over the last few weeks.
His athleticism could provide another body to help Rodriguez track back, free Dimi up on the right and free outwide if Rodriguez looks to drift in. His height from goal kicks would be handy. Additionally, a lot of our goals have come from low crosses once we've got in behind.
Not sure, just a thought.

Yeah, 3pts is all that matters. I've gone into many games thinking we're going to have to fight it out, only to storm past the likes of Victory, WSW, Brissy last year, scoring 4 in the process. On the flipside, how many times do we play a struggling Perth, Wello, CCM, thinking they're ripe for a flogging, only to fight out a tough draw or loss.
The fact Brisbane are all over the place this season makes me extra cautious about tonight. They shouldn't have beaten Adelaide down there a few weeks ago but they did.
Every game is a new day, and I'm not going to take any win as granted, not considering the last 6 years.

Let's just accept reality Pato is going to be one of those blokes who don't run back a hell of a lot in defence
The whole Aussie mentality of having good engines isn't what you are looking at here
You have got to accept that he is going to be like a lot of gifted players from his part of the world a walker for a lot of the game
But
Where he going to benefit us is what he can do with the ball.
We just need to get some conditioning into him so he can do it for more than 10 mins a game

dimi and nabs are both trying to do too much i think. number of times they'd take the extra touch when the right play was the quick pass.
speed made a good point in commentary (worth noting, cause he doesn't do it very often), the first instinct pretty much across the team is to pass forward, even when there are only 2 players forward. it's fantastic to watch. even brown is into it.
moss had a great game.
we left a lot of goals out there, but so did the roar.
i'd love to see a directive from ffa for refs to actually protect players from dodgy tackles. i love a great bit of defensive work, but let's be honest, people want to see goals, so let's do something that encourages it! same for cynical fouls.

and we seem to have a worrying trend of fading out of games from around 60 minutes. 8 days until the next match and then 5 to the next after that. really need some players coming back.

Yeh I noticed I couldn't tell if it was a "**** you" or "**** yeh" moment.. I looked and couldn't see any opposition supporters. To be fair the bloke cops so much unwarranted criticism.
Hoff is having a very reasonable season but that is one out of ten. I am pleased for the bloke but reality check time

Is there any background to this hate of all things Hoff ? Few people ever give the bloke credit for anything and pretty much want him to fail for some reason.
Is it sour grapes from local players that Hoff made it and none of them did ? Or is he a real nasty piece of work people simply don't like ?
I've never met him, but I've asked someone that played against him before he turned professional , why a few fans had issues with Hoff and he had no idea either.

Hoff is flourishing under Merrick (just like Kanta): looks like he finally has clear instructions in a well developed game plan (I've never seen this happen in the last 7 years).
He is a very good utility, probably not in the starting 11 once Roy and Ronny are back, but he's done so well in many different positions (including some top-shelf finishes), I would definitely keep him next season.
Very good value for $$$
Hey hey hey who is hating on him ?. Not me. Just because i don't rate him as high as others does not mean i hate on him. up until this season he has just been a average fullback no better no worse than most in this league making him average IMO ( no hate ).
I don't want the bloke to fail i just don't think he is anything special based on the last 9 or so years as a fullback which is what i based my previous statement on did i not ?.
I did say he was having a very reasonable season lets not forget and perhaps he may have just played himself under the noses of a few other clubs coaches having proved some versatility. Surely you couldn't say the same if he was still running around at fullback and never been given the opportunity further up the park like he has this season due to being short on able bodies.
I could probably name up to half a dozen players in our squad that i do not rate not hate but that is an opinion and being like assholes everybody has one. I have Kanta in the same boat. Has had very average seasons but has probably had his best to date and certainly done himself no harm in getting another A League gig if Ernie were to let him go. I am not so sure the same could be said based on the few seasons leading up to this one.
Hope i have cleared things up.

I didn't mean you - I was referring to the crowd that would boo him even if he scored five goals in a game.
My opinion with Hoff is that he's benefiting from a coach that gives players the freedom to use their natural ability. Where as others in the past have been far too rigid in their approach and failed by trying to push square pegs into round holes.
Kanta had an injury free pre-season this year - that's why he's going well - he's always been a talent just not had the best of runs injury wise.

Back in the day (09-13???) there were a bunch of old blokes at the back of Bay 4 that started every match chanting “HOFF OFF” and didn’t stop til he was subbed and I’m pretty sure they kept doing it even after he left for City because they were usually hammered and had little idea what was going on down on the field.

What was his celebration about with the fingers on his face?
Great goal and if he can keep chipping in with one of them every few weeks he can stick around as long as he wants.
I do think he will be out of the starting team when our squad is back together but he's a valuable and versatile utility nowadays and will be worthy of a bench place for sure.

Foz regulars as well Plague.
Yeah one of em was always on here can’t remember his name but in the early days he was also mad online.
Man I just had flashbacks to when I actually supported this team. I need a bath.

If we ever start using the player loyalty allowance and get Kanta and eventually Hoff on our books for little to no salary cap hit, I would be happy with both of them around till they retire.

Agree, Kanta in current form is pretty serviceable DM, and assuming we have another CM able to take his place then he's also good cover for the CB position (where we are a little light at the moment imo)

He didn't miss it, just didn't think it was worth even calling a foul. The MRP also didn't think it was worth doing anything about so lack of decision justified.

He doesn’t have to make contact for it to be judged a foul yeah?
Should have been pinged for leaving his feet at a minimum.

Should have been a yellow and potentially red imo.
Its either "unsporting behaviour" for a reckless challenge which is a yellow, or red for "serious foul play" (excessive force - "the player is in danger of injuring his opponent")
I'm guessing MRP have deemed its only a yellow offence and so no suspension would have been handed out if its picked up, so they need take no action .. although I'm not sure quite how the MRP operates.
