roar v perth - last night, 3-2 to roar

wanderers v victory
sydney v mariners
melbourne v adelaide

the way i read it, the only result that has any bearing on us at the moment is if the mariners get up or get a draw. actually, draws all round would work quite well for us!

geez Lustica has this wanderers team humming.
no surprise his inclusion in the starting team has coincided with their good run.
dont wanna be facing that in the finals.

yo plague, where do you stand on the stat speed just threw out - only 5 teams have scored from a corner this year. legit stat or dumb stat. i'm leaning towards dumb stat personally.

also, it seems fox have employed a dwarf to hold the camera for the half time interviews, or are fox just trying for a bit of upskirting on tara?

yeah the stat itself is what it is. if for some reason people think it matters then ok.
the only takeaway i have is that it kind of shows corners are pretty low percentage scoring chances. its the equivalent to a "ball in the area" but with (generally) way more defenders than normal. why teams keep pumping it in there ill never know. id love to know the amount of chances created from a break on a corner going the other way though.

regardless, Pep worked it out a decade ago and rarely pumped the ball in there at barca. they seemed a pretty good team so maybe it worked.

but hey, coaches know shit, its the stat that matter.

speaking of assists.

tonight Leeroy George (who is trash) produced an amazing piece of play to set up Berisha for a goal. It was just a lovely bit of football.

last week he hit the post from one yard out, then air swung at the same ball before a teammate bailed him out by tapping it in.

stat nerds will record both pieces of play exactly the same way (an assist both times).

someone wanna explain the value of it to me?

it gives commentators the ability to say things like "he has 12 assists, which makes him far and away the most assistive player in the competition" or the like.

the thing is, the first Melb goal was actually due to an 'assist' from George (who is trash).
As Barbarouses was cutting in, George (who is trash) cut across the box dragging defenders away from the run.
it contributed just as much t the goal as a cross or long ball hit and hope.

but anyway, we dont count that, so according to the stat nerdz poor Leeroy just didnt help out at all on that goal (and he is trash).

As much as I don’t want the scum to win and watch Okon karaoke his way through horses again (now that’s criminal)... it’s nice to see Sydney starting to show more and more vulnerability as the season wears on. We almost beat them, Adelaide kept them scoreless last week and now the scum are up early. Throw in some ACL games soon and who knows, maybe we can sneak past them. Makes today’s loss ****ing frustrating.

Wales has missed an absolute sitter - Scum should be 2 nil up. he could have that shot a thousand times and he'd never miss it again.

I know - it's sad to see even when it's the coast. We might have gone down today but at least we were trying to win the game until the final whistle.

City have a talented side but seem to prefer the show boat, fancy, 6 a side possession football and not worry about scoring goals.

If thats what the coach wants then go for it.

Really pleased to see City, which is everyone's second team, finally hitting its straps.
