Thought it was worthy of a new thread. Not sure if mods want to merge the stuff from the local thread, I moreso wanted to focus on the Jets.
1) Am I right in saying we can’t draw another A-league team in the (our) first round?
2) Will these games count toward Roy’s suspension?
No idea when the draw will be, I can’t see anything online past the local draws so far. It does look as though all the state-level qualifiers wrap up by mid-June.

Roy suspension should count
I believe we can play anyone in the draw
They removed the top 4 getting a bye against fellow HAL sides and made it random
4 teams get to play NPL sides but they made it random who the 4 will be
But make it 3 as we all know Smurfs will be 1 of the 4
That why Gypos got turfed out by NPL opposition last season

3 all A-League fixtures from pot of 10.
And yes they will count towards his suspension. That's been mentioned in the press

To be fair, it was random last year too - and we thought that was good (but we still drew an A-League side).
I'm confident we will progress past Round of 32. And the only way we are going to get a home game is drawing an A-League team

Started in Pot A with all a-league teams, and the three all a-league games were drawn with 4 random teams left.
Then Pot B doing the all NPL games until 4 teams were left.
Then Pot A drawn against Pot B.

We are a multicultural country
What actually sets this sport apart from others is that embraces all comers
We have a Football Federation who fails to embrace footballs greatest selling point

I have no problem with it. It either strengthens the club within the community or alienates it. I guess there’s the threat of violence, but different names does nothing to stop this. Same shit, different name.
Call your club whatever you want.
I was just pointing out that they wanted all clubs to remove those links, yet there’s one blatantly advertising Croatia. Which if it is okay for them, let the others do it.

Gold Coast Knights are another.
They proudly display that they're a Croatian Australian club. The flag is on the crest.
It is what it is.
As long as they genuinely make themselves inclusive to ANYONE around them, and not exclude those who aren't from that ethnic background then the FFA can't really do shit about their allegiances.

I know there was a sign in screen, but i seem to remember a few years ago, you just had to sign up to the free account and you could get access. Has this changed?
Scoreline of 2-1 flatters CCB a little. They did well, but never really looked like winning. Few chances leading up to half time and a bit of momentum. Heidelberg would've been disappointed they didn't get a few more, certainly had opportunity.
CCB keeper Foggarty had plenty of fumbles. Couple of players did well. Elkington looked everywhere. Smith and Goodchild too isolated up front, game was stretched right out in second half.

High time the FFA actually stopped rigging the draw for this
The people are enjoying the NPL v HAL clashes
The ****ers at FFA HQ are doing draws to limit these clashes
How about next year
Rd 32 all 10 HAL teams play an NPL team ??
Then we have a random draw for Rd 16 onwards
In our swisscup.. the only fixing of the draw is that in rounds 1 (64 Teams) and 2 (32 Teams) Super League(1st League) teams cant play each other... Small clubs getting to host teams like FC Basel or FC Zurich is great....

That precisely thge idea
Get the HAL teams out to play NPL sides and stop rigging it so two HAL sides like us and Heart are forced to play one another which is actually just denying somne of the NPL sides who have made it to Rd 32 Rd 16 etc an opportunity to play a big team before their fans etc

Yeah I'm with the idea of ditching the two pots draw.
It's great for NPL teams to draw an A-League side. Fox/FFA can promote more giant-killings, magic of the cup etc. I think the competition has matured to that point and it is the natural next step

I think this is a really good point and I totally agree.
In its foundations i think it needed that interest from clubs to be able and somewhat likely to progress into the next round. But I think all clubs can see the value in it now and would be jumping at the chance to play an a league team.

Thanks.
Initially the idea would have been to get as many non-A-League sides as deep into the competition as they could, evidenced by the fact the draw was planned so at least one made the semi-final. Now it's not seen as a foregone conclusion the A-League teams win and more a reward to play them (financially and in terms of exposure) than a punishment.
I suppose the counter-argument will be "who has an interest in an all A-League semi final" but realistically the Semi Final is played when the A-League season has started anyway and it brings it's own challenge around managing and extra midweek game round or two.
If this change is made, the next logical step for me is to put some reward on winning the comp - like a spot in an FFA Charity Shield (against the Grand Final winners - or League winners/2nd place if the same) and eventually an ACL spot.

I think the next step of the FFA Cup should be expanding to a national round of 64.
Or at minimum a national qualifying round.
For example the qualifying round would be 44 federation member Clubs with 22 winners going into the round of 32 with the 10 A-League Clubs.

How are clubs assisted/subsidised for travel? Is it at their own expense?
That would be an inhibitor I'd predict.

Could minimise this by having the round of 64 draw regional. Much like the first round of the League Cup in England. Get rid of the draw rigging from Rnd 32 on and just have regional (North/South) or state based pots for the round of 64.
MonkeyKplunk
31-08-2018, 09:42 AM
The two pot draw really should be a thing of the past.
I'd rather see a seeded draw and an actual set bracket for at least the Round of 16 onwards, if not Round of 32.
That way everything is clear and in black and white and there can be no claims of fixed "random" draws

But.
Do ya think the Double-eff-aye learned anything from the final?
The future of the A-league is 15k 'boutique' stadiums with access to big venues for marquee matches.
Adelaide has it, Melbourne has it, Sydney will never get it because they are stupid but there is a perfect opportunity to build a venue for Brisbane if they ever get a 2nd team.
Also, never let Sydney have a home game, ever.
They are the perfect draw card for away teams to turn up and boo, plus no one goes to their games anyway.
Plus the state govt can save about a billion not building them a new ground.
That billion will buy many jets shaped hats and statues of Griff.

I've been saying this for some time now that we need to look at the MLS and the market research they have done in the states.
Boutique stadiums in the CBD of cities is what we should be looking at, a 15k-18k seat capacity stadium in Newcastle. Broadmedow is not Newcastle.
Who cares if people miss out on tickets because they want to attend 1 game every 5 years when we make the finals. Smaller Stadiums make for a greater demand for tickets, greater demand in tickets mean people buy tickets earlier thus making the demand for tickets higher the research is there. Everytime I say this someone pops up and says what about growth.
In close to 15 years we have been floating around 10k average crowds, 18k gives us room for growth. Growth is not the above average 1 off 20k crowd every now an then. Growth is steadily building your market and catering best to that market. Catering best to that market is 10k-12k people in an intimate boutique stadium surround by bars and restaurants creating a match day atmosphere far better than 10k-12k people in a 33K seat white castle in the suburbs surrounded by houses were the atmosphere gets lost in a half empty stadium.
Marty and the Gypo should be doing everything possible to make this happen because it's where our future should be.

the 'growth' is in TV figures.
Tuesdays nights game was a cracker to watch, based just off the atmosphere created by 14k serial killers.
more people gonna wanna see that on TV than the boring echo of yet another 5k crowd in a 40k stadium.
TV money is what fuels the game, make the TV product good, people will tune in.

The HAL model is flawed idea of Lowy and co
The idea of playing at Allianz Suncorp Stade de Newy etc in these giant white elephants shows the ****s have no idea
They are not catering to football fans who are happy to go watch a game in whatever the stadia looks like but more the McDonald Brat family generation
We should all be in 15k seater stadium period maybe with the exception of Vartree
As for the Cup the fact that this game was on midweek 2 rds into the HAL says all that needs to be said about the clowns running the gamer
That was a very good game to watch yet these cunce have hidden it from view to the masses by their incompetence of not showcasing this competition appropriately
This comp is a great selling point for our game going forward
