You couldn't get enough money on Sydney in this game. Absolutely no chance if we apply the same tactics and personnel as the last few games.
Only good news is we seem to have a few players putting their hands up to be Foz whipping boys - which at least gives us something to look forward to for the season.

Based on last weeks game form I'd say Jackson would be one of the last players I'd consider dropping from the starting lineup. Defensively he did well and he also managed to get forward and was far from the worst on the park with the ball at his feet or indeed passing wise.
We lost the game in and through the middle - that's where I'd be making the changes.

In theory I agree with the idea of removing Jackson from Left Back and putting someone else there
Based on what he has done the last 2 weeks defensively you are smoking crack
The bloke has more than adequately done his job even if he offers little in attack and thus deserves to keep the gig for now
You are though 100% wrong in where our problems lie
If anyone needs dropping it is
Hoffman for being useless as a striker I know you love him but as a 9 he is ****ing woeful
Jair for just being his usual trash self and more importantly both Steven Ugarkovic and Matthew Ridemton
Everyone has been haply to hammer Ridenton and rightfully so but lets have a close look at Stevie Us efforts as well
He is also losing us the battle in the centre of the park
This is a repetitive theme with him through his career and he needs to sort this out
If anything I am dropping Hoffman from striker for Shephard and at least playing for 60/70mins with a ****ing striker for a change
I am also putting Kanta in midfield just to kick 7 shades of shit out of anything in sky blue and putting Johnny K in there alongside him
Cancer or not the bloke would offer more than Ridenton and Sugar have all season
On another note how did Hazard go in the UCL?? I cant seem to find how a superstar of world football went

We cant play with no striker offering theeat around the box
We cant play with no width with Dimi and Jair offering no natural width

i went to the football tonight.
here are some thoughts.
I love Hoff.
Hoff is an A-League level player.
Hoff cant play the point.
but.
you know what.
**** Roy O'Donovan.
and **** all you wankers that want our blokes to "bleed for the shirt", "stick a boot in" blah blah blah.
because when you have a bloke who cant control his temper and repeatedly carries on like a cockhead in a salary capped league, you end up with a fullback playing striker.
so Roy Odonovan should feel a bucketload of guilt for what our team is going through right now. but ive no doubt he'll try and "repay the fanz" by carrying on being a complete moron on the pitch.
now.
id love to see Thurgate get a start next week.
Jair is better than you are giving him credit for.
Vargas is a beautiful footballer to watch go around.
Every time i see kanta play i am saddened by what injuries have cost him.
Ugaboogaman is an infinitely better player with Kanta beside him.

i went to the football tonight.
here are some thoughts.
Ugaboogaman is an infinitely better player with Kanta beside him.
im happy for Cowburn.
more people should be going to the football.
This
Jair is wank
The only wanks at the Jets at present are our coach and CEO for having all the time in the world to address our need for a goalscorer at the club in light of Roy's situation and the best they come up with is Hoff.
Wrong a LB should never be that infield almost in front of Toppa
This , Jackson wasn't even in the same postcode. Proof is Ernie giving him the chat on the way back for the restart.

gave width, first touch was excellent, hold up play was solid.
now, consider that as a wide man you want your striker making runs into space, and your fullback overlapping.
go back and look at how many times Hoff and Jackson did that for him.
there was a hilarious moment in the 2nd half where he had the ball in the corner of the 18 yd box. he held the ball patiently waiting, waiting for either his fullback to overlap or his striker to make a run. neither happened. but all the fools around me were screaming at him to just step back and put it in the top corner like all the pros do.
gosh darn it was embarrassing listening to it.
cant believe in the same breath you blokes are baggig Jair yet wondering whats gone wrong with Dimi.
its the same problem. there are no options.
Merrick has to fix that. then yeah, if the 'wide' men cant hit strikers on the move then hook them. but if you all thought that was the case tonight then y'all were watching a different game to me.

Yet the same bloke cant spot that Hoffman aint a strikers arsehole yet keeps picking him there
Yet the same bloke cant spot Johnny Ks ability and build a side around him as the focal point

Thought Moss was poor for the goal.
Brosque is a ****
Hoff ain’t a striker but I feel for him being shaft into the position.
Jair ain’t a winger, but still a decent player we could utilise better.
Thurgate should be given a few cracks in the coming weeks.
Ugar was one of our best, esp first half. Him and Kanta did really well I thought.
Dimi just isn’t clicking atm. Looks slow, bad touch, trying to do too much. Never thought I’d say it but hopefully some time with Graham Arnold will help him. Not so much Arnold, but being in the national team set up.

In the last five minutes the crowd was coming into it like the same game last year but it got distracted by the announcements.
When the "jump" was ordered sure Bay 1 does a mean pogo. But....most of the ones jumping are kids and with their parents etc giggling at the sight it was very noticeable that the emotion building was dissipated.
And then to tell the crowd to "stand up" AGAIN in the 90th minute was bizarre. The chant was just dumb...didnt know it was Lawrie. When our fans are roused they are as good as any....let them be.

I swear in the lead-up to signing Jair we were looking for a dude who is a winger first but can also play striker if needed, just like what nabbout did last season but we have yet to employ him in that spot.
Dimi has no idea what's going on anymore, we just drifts all across the park with no structure at all. I'm almost wondering if we'd be better off putting him at CAM & putting Vargas on the wing or something instead.
Put Hoff at RB, put George at LB, put either Austin or preferably Thurgate at LW, Dimi at CAM, Vargas RW & put Jair up at centre of attack

You are correct that is exactly how the signing off Jair was described to us. I noted on social media last evening many cracks at Hoff but this not on Hoff as such but lay very much on Ernie and Lawrie for the poor planning , selecting of players and there starting positions.
Watched the replay and twice Jair had the ball on the edge of the box within moments of each other and Plague is right the first time all those in blue shirts anywhere near him just stood still like they had lead in there boots. Sweet f&*k all movement.
Lawrie and Ernie just taking the piss and treating us like uneducated mugs these first 4 rounds with the way make up of the team.

We are crowding the middle too much in attack and our fullbacks aren't using the space out wide. Dimi needs to be more versatile and spend a bit more time near the sideline and stop crowding Ronny's space. Dimi has been way too predictable this season.
Jairs potential is plain to see, problem is the neanderthals of the hunter only recognise it if you flailing shots into row z occasionally.

Just watched Coricas post match presser - he was talking about them being dominant and saying Jets were only capable of long ball tactics - his facial expressions and body language though tell a different story.
They looked done in the final 10 mins to me and the fouls and time wasting are proof enough they were hanging on rather than playing for a win.
He was a dickhead as a player, and an even bigger one as a coach.

This is what has me feeling that maybe they need to swap positions. I think Vargas out wide would cause equal amounts of damage, we'd have a guy who actually sticks to the sideline more unlike dimi and it allows Dimi a bit more space and him to float around without being as costly to the one side like he was last night

Am I the only one concerned about Topor?
This year he's been clumsy at least 2-3 times per game (see the missed header that gave LeFondre a great chance in the first half). He also was in charge of Brosq**t when he scored.
Boogs was great defensively, also thanks to the work of Kanta, immense yesterday (just don't let him try long passes...).
Can't understand a game plan based on shooting long balls to Hoffman: FFS we have players that are more than capable of building play from the back, and we rely on this stupid strategy resulting in the ball handed to the opposition every single time.
I think Jackson played a good game, yes he was out of position for their goal but he defended well and had a few good moments building play.
The real issue here is the lack of movement up front: Jair, Vargas and Dimi speak different languages at the moment, can't really blame it on Hoff (who's NOT a striker) if there is no communication behind him.
Dimi is a bit of a mistery right now: however, look at the little chat he and Cowburn had before the goal... looks like Cowburn told him exactly what he was going to do, and Dimi put the ball in the perfect place - that was great to see.
Georgievski is a bit lost on the right... I'd move him to the left, Hoff RB.
And please PLEASE enough with the "Stand up - jump" BS

Le Fondre's goal scoring streak ended yesterday so a bit rough to call out NTS given he's done better than anyone else so far this season marking him.
Ernie will have Champness and Roy back in December or so and possibly Johnny K - which makes us a hell of a lot stronger all over the park.
Sydney last night demonstrated that they are vulnerable and at our full strength I can't see them giving us too many problems.

It was very obvious that our forwards were staying narrow too often when we are building up from the back. Not sure if this is under instruction, so that boogs and Topor can launch a ball to Hoff and try to have people nearby to collect scraps, but that is such a rubbish strategy, even when Hoff is winning headers - he usually does well at this but hardly won a thing on the weekend.
The amount of times the ball was played out to our fullbacks who looked up the line wanting to see the winger showing feet and saw noone at all available to pass to was no doubt as frustrating for them as it was for us.
Listening to the pre season interview the Jetstream did with Ernie, he said he wants his three forwards playing as "strikers", not one striker and two wingers, with the width to come from the fullbacks. That's all well and good once we're up at their box, we want to get the fullbacks up and down the outside. But to get to that point you need the wide forwards stretching wide to provide easy options for ball progression, as well as freeing up more space in the centre when the opposing fullbacks have to come wide to mark them. At the moment our whole front 4 just stay within 20 metres of each other right near the centre backs, leaving no options but for a long ball to be played in to them. Starting positions of these wide players has to change.
Jackson had a great game I thought.
Georgievski has been pretty average so far this season. Should put Hoffy back to RB and drop him to the bench, and reshuffle the forward line. Whether that's Shepherd into striker or Jair up top.
The other thing mentioned by Ernie in the interview was that he wants Dimi close to Ronny so that when Ronny is marked or double teamed, Dimi is close by to take advantage of that. Fair enough perhaps, but I still think that concept needs tinkering with (imo leave it to further up the pitch, or for quick counters, not slow buildup), because having all the attackers narrow and no wide options is killing us at the moment.
I'm not too concerned yet, I think we will get there.
