Interesting, in 2008/09 (the season after the GF win) we had 11 points after 10 games - the same as this season.
Mark Jones was ahead of us at the same point in the season by a point. Miller was 2 points ahead at the same point.

IF we could have taken 9 of a possible 12 points that would have been great. Instead, we're now going at 1.5 points a game in this crucial period and we aren't going to trouble the finals with that sort of form.
Agree. We need to win tonight otherwise we risk losing touch with the finals.

Ridenton and Johnny K off, Hoff to RB and Jair on but Ernie is too clever for that
Johnny K was honking? You been drinking ???
He was ball watching for the French blokes equaliser
5 Yards off the pace
He also allowed the bloke to get countless crosses in far too easily and one of them led to the Taggart goal
The rest of the night he looked like a bloke who hadnt played for months
Bert had options there
Could have swapped George over or could have put Hoff back there
But he left him out there and it cost us big time

1st law of football.. waste easy chances and you'll get punished. Nothing new.
Or lack of composure in front of goal is shocking.
1st roar goal is on Johnny K.
Who was playing right back for roars 2nd goal? I think we'll never know. Johnny was completely exhausted at 70', why pull O'Donovan?
Last 3 home games should've been 9 "easy" points... we get away with 1.
Goodbye finals?
On another note all that field position space dominbance etc
Can someone enlighten me as to why Vargas was once again not bossing that game??
We keep paying the big bucks and our main man is failing to deliver again and again

I had the same impression.
I'll try to do the same tomorrow at work, just to see what happens...
Unfortunately Ronny doesn't seem to gel with the team: I don't see him staying for another season, unless things improve significantly in the 2nd part of the season.
Things are not great, and it's not necessarily his fault only, but players should give their 100% always, it's their bloody profession!!!
Weren't Ronnies management at present in talks about another season. Perhaps the clubs offer was not received too well.
Either way a lot of this is on Ernie. Bloke has made some really bizarre decisions this season. Going all the way back to signing Ridenton, Bloke had done nothing absolutely nothing at the Nix yet we offer him a gig. His selections in the first round inc Jackson and then starting week after week even though he was going like a busted ass. Continually selecting Hoff at the point when it was not working not even trying for any length of time a switch with Jair. His ripper the other night after the Adelaide game trying to convince people Ridenton had a good game when he came on, We must have two Ridenton's because the one i seen in the second half against Adelaide was piss poor and be lucky to get a start at Valo he turned the ball over that many times.
And those subs tonight inc Jackson WTF. Our worst performer this season has been our coach.
As pissed as i am with the players Ernie form has also been atrocious.

The hard work is in making the promotional video and getting your name on the contract. The rest is just waiting around until it expires and you need to get another highlights tape onto the market.
Vargas has done all that. he's getting paid - not sure why you feel he needs to deliver above and beyond that - I certainly wouldn't.
The least possible effort for highest obtainable salary - isn't that the goal of all workers / players.
Winning only matters to useless khunts like us that were never good enough to play professionally.

Once again, I thought Crazy George was the best on ground tonight. He never stopped running and he was always looking to create something in attack as well.
The Dimi and Vargas combination is a disaster - either the formation / tactics change or one of them has to go in January.

Idk how I feel.
Glad To see Johnny K back, and he showed some promising moments but seemed to give the ball away easy with stray passes and crosses and my first instinct was he was at fault for the last goal. That was his man in the buildup. George got caught upfield, Kanta tracked the runner through to LB position. He looks absolutely spent and can’t track his runner through.
I didn’t mind the defensive subs at the time. But I thought we ended up a bit too defensive. When you go that defensive you simply invite attack after attack.
Have been critical of George at the start of the season, but he’s playing much better and to he level he is capable of. Dimi first half was his best 45 this year.

A lot has been made about the inability to convert chances despite a massive number of shots we're having on goal, so I went back and looked at last year for comparison.
In 29 fixtures last year, we had 386 shots in total, 163 were on target (42% accuracy) and we scored 58 goals (15% conversion).
In 11 fixtures (40% of the previous year total) this year we've had 194 shots (50% of the previous season total), 56 have been on target (29% accuracy) and we have scored 12 goals (6% conversion).
I don't have data on WHERE the shots are being taken but I can breakdown player shoot accuracy inside against outside the box.
Anyway, we've taken the most shots of ANY team this season and we have the lowest conversion rate. We're really inaccurate or shooting from poor positions with players blocking the shots.

We should have been out of sight in that game last night. The free kick, the one-on-one save by Young's feet, DG deciding to pass in the second half when I think he would have skinned his opponent, Roy botching the Dimi cut back right at the end...any more?
It's classic Jets.
Maintaining morale and confidence is key, because if we continue to do what we are doing we will give someone a hiding. Our first half was really good.
Macca

I tend to think we are some confidence and luck away from being a very good team this season. I think the main thing missing is results, and overall performance level is generally pretty good, probably better than last year except for the clinical / rapid transition play we had in the first half of last season. Our results are worse than our performances deserve. Where I think last season we probably over achieved points/results wise for what our performances were.
I will add that you could easily argue that our "performances" are not as good because we are conceding more and scoring less therefore not playing as well. I'm probably moreso looking at general play and how we are looking in the game relative to that opponent.
Football is a low scoring game decided by a few, sometimes a single, key moments in the game that can be completely uncharacteristic of the other 99% of the game. But for the most part, if you're playing better than the opponent then you have a higher chance to win.

But I actually am more than happy with the way Bert has us playing
Luck Lack of ability and other things are currently running against us
But this is the best we have looked for a long long long time
Only 2 games in 11 have I felt we have been not in it and below par
Heart and Nix away
But every other game we have been smacking opposition about in general play
At some stage this will show up on the scoreboard
The teams play at maneuvering the ball from pen box to pen box has evolved heaps and I happy to ride this out
I dont think we have taken steps backward this year but actually forward

I hate to agree with The Member, but I'm agreeing with The Member..
We're playing pretty well, the ball just isn't going into the back of the net. I know...it's kinda important that this does happen
Last year, they were going in. This year they are hitting the post/crossbar or the keeper is making a freakishly good save - Young made at least 2 last night.
Either that, or someone has put a largish piece of perspex over the goalmouth.

This team does have that touch of "Arsenalitis" - one touch or pass too many, giving that split second allowing defenders to close us down.
Also I really did notice last night how the opposition ramps up the press on our midfield to force us back sometimes, or at least away from goal. Everyone is doing it now.

I agree, too.
I remember leaving the stadium 2-3 years ago and thinking I could have used my 35 bucks in a much better way. And that happened on a regular basis, regardless of the final results.
Now the team plays good football, we're really just lacking in the final third. Which yeah, is kinda important... but the rest is ok - for a league standards.

I have to agree we aren't far away from it all clicking and we put 3-4 past a side. We are playing some good football without luck. If we couldn't create a chance I'd be worried but we are.
We also need to cast our minds back 2 seasons we were deadset the worst team in the league performance wise and we were disgraceful to watch. In less than 40 games we went from the worst team to watch to one of the more attractive teams to watch and we have made a grand final. We all know it can swing quickly so let's not be all doom and gloom

Last year, they were going in. This year they are hitting the post/crossbar or the keeper is making a freakishly good save - Young made at least 2 last night.
Either that, or someone has put a largish piece of perspex over the goalmouth.
Agree with baldrick on this too...and therefore I also agree with the member....
First half last night we should have been out of sight but last ditch blocks and fluke save conspired against that...kept roar in the game and the grew more confident that they could get something out of the game....which of course they did.
The goals will come...especially if Roy doesn’t butcher the chances like the one layer on th plate by Dimi.
Oh and baldrick....5-1.

Did I hear correctly that stat related to Tagg's goal being his 18th at the ground and him now overtaking Lord Griff as the highest scorer at our ground?
If that's true, then for me it brings up several issues.
I find that figure disturbing in itself. I honestly thought it would be more. Really? Griff only banged in 17 on that ground??
(Everyone a divinely orchestrated masterpiece...of course )
The fact the 'record' belongs to someone no longer associated with our club to me is appauling. It speaks volumes about our history of recruitment and long term commitment of a regular goal scorer. How many has Brusque knocked in at Demolition Stadium over x number of years? Thompson probably banged in more than 20 at any Tard stadium you care to choose they've played at I'll bet. (5 in a certain game helps!)
If the owner and CEO are serious they need to look at investing in someone to become a regular goal scoring machine: year in, year out. I might make it sound simple but I'm only pointing out what I think is a long term symptom of our situation, and that stat is quite revealing.
JP, can you provide some quick stats on the next few highest goal scorers at HS and who in our current squad is the closest to the record please? Really curious on this one.

Taggz has scored 18. Griffo has scored 17 - but that is in the A-League only. I expect Griffo scored for United at home back in the day.
Notable others:
Andrew Nabbout has 14 (13 with Jets)
Labi 11
Ryu 11
Brockie 11 (9 with Jets)
Mark Bridge 11 (7)
Petrovski 9 (7)
Thommo 8
Bridges 7
Brosque 7
Reinaldo 6
Smeltz and Fornaroli 5
