So pretty much we are the best team now right?

Our game plan is legit brilliant

1. Score 1 goal out of every 7 or 8 simple 1v1 chances you create.
2. Give up 5 or 6 gilt-edged chances on our goal and hope the other team are worse at striking a ball than us.
3.Win the league.

i have some thoughts:

Thurgate continues to be good. just go back and see who caped up for him ages ago. the real ones know.

Miller and Fitzgeralds side was a problem esp first half. they werent good tonight.

For all Johnny K's positional 'faults', his football ability is fantastic. touch, vision, effort. better than most on that team. imagine the day he gets put back in his proper spot.

Jackson is still better than Boogaard. Big ups to Merrick for recognising the obvious but keeping the captain on the bench for a 'maligned' player like Jackson isnt exactly easy. (it should be, but theres way too much bullshit involved).

Dimis injury time effort was outstanding. carry on all you want but that dude is beating you, your athlete mate, your dad and the bloke that owns your barnyard up the sandhills every pre-season. a lot of people just hang back and let Thurgate take the 1 v 1 for the 2nd goal. he busted his ass and was rewarded.

Kanta, Ugabooga and Dimi must look ****ing fantastic with a few cones set up in training. their 30m central space work is awesome. few times tonight they played out with proper confidence.

i hate thinking positively but Wessi with these blokes would be fun to watch.

Also, Johnny K had a great game. Kamau looked even more toothless than normal and Georgio did all of nothing as well.

Lachie Jackson with a textbook penalty giveaway was also great to see. Not even remotely close to the ball and somehow got away with it. You love to see it.

Babbel was terrified of Arroyo, they double teamed him as often as they could. Once he went off their backline had no clue what the gameplan was. Hence why Thurgate was either open when he dropped deep, or killing them on the shoulder. Amateur defending from McGowan all night was beautiful to watch.

I mean, you didn't notice both the acres of space he created centrally for Dimi as well as how much he occupied the CBs so they somehow repeatedly ended up 1v1 with fullbacks trying to track them??

oh of course we should all talk about that one thing you didnt like in a 2-0 win against a team in the top 6 that we completely dominated.

totally agree, that one thing...whoo boy, it was costly. prob stopped us being 2.5 or 2.8 goals to the good.

How anyone can be overly critical of any player is beyond me. Should of been 3+ but that was more to do with the performance of Lopar rather than terrible finishing.

WSW are a Quality side & we gave it to them with a team of misfits & journeymen. Tremendous performance across the park.

Thought our wide men were terrific tonight. Hoffman effective, Fitzy tore their right side apart with Miller & JK was terrific on Kamau.

Disagree WSW are a quality side

I think they are just as useless as about 5 teams in the comp

Smurfs PissAnts and Heart

Perth playing like busted areas

6 teams fighting it out for 3 play off spots and the Gypos retaining their trophy

They were better than they were last season under Babbel but they still just as capable of finishing 8th or 9th in this comp as we are

One thing I will say that Bert has got right at the moment is that we are playing forward at speed much more than we have in the last 18 months

We do look much more dangerous

Glad to also see that someone has spoken to Dimi about playing it forward quicker

He looks a much better player not having 400 touches a half

What though is sad is that the Chinese Lightsalesman needs to show us the fibre of his fabric as playing this way we need better options than Hoff and Fitzuseless in the front 3rd

The Gypo CEO also needs to be on the blower to LA and getting Jowic back here ASAP because he be killing it with us playing this way

PS Stanny As far as Arroyo goes **** Off

The bloke is doing everything we need except score goals

The chances will come his way sooner or later though

the member makes some good points here. the link speed was way better tonight. and it wasnt hoof balls, it was good precise passing right through the guts.

one thing that cracked me up. fitzgerald got the ball in space 1 v 1 with his man square on. was just expecting a square ball or recycling but he took the bloke on and burned him. it was a long lost skill that i thought we didnt teach anymore. nothing came of it in the moment but man oh man i bet that defender second guessed him for the rest of the match.

Or like Darth plagueis said, he is making runs that are drawing defenders away from the space that Hoff and Fitz are making "better" runs into. Watch the replay and see where he has pulled defenders to create the opportunities that Hoff and Fitz squandered.

Because Arroyo is working his arse off for the team and playing very unselfishly

Soon the guy will realise he needs to be a bit more about him at this level than he is

I also think his fitness level is an issue. The bloke needs to be playing 90mins every week for us and for whatever reason he has only played 90 once for us

Don't know what we are doing fitness wise with him but we need him on the park during the latter stages of games when there is more space and opportunity for him to capitalise on less defenders back

Grimario

Like this for the Hoff chance... they are both central when we get possession, he pulls off to the right and takes a defender with him. McGowan turns and chases with the agility and acceleration of a cruise ship and that leaves Hoff clear through on goal.

https://i.imgur.com/ipCG7nz.jpg

Or the Fitz chance. You can see that the front 3 are shifting across the field with the ball. Fitz staying on the far centre back and Hoff following Georgie. Arroyo pressing McGowan who ****s his pass up, Topor clears straight to Hoff and they break. Arroyo is already on the left so stays left whilst Fitz is central so moves further right to allow Dimi down the middle.

Fitzuseless tearing people apart, hardly. Bloke is the Liam Reddy of outfield players but at least Reddy has a legit excuse for having so many clubs due to enjoying a brew or three. Fitzuseless's is just through a sheer lack of ability.

As for Miller he is not producing half the sort of form he was at the Gypo's last season. I know he played a part in one of the goals tonight but he ain't showing nothing on last season and the sort of form that brought him so much attention.

And those who say Arroyo not performing, You must be listening to the games on the radio and not watching them FFS.

just while all y'all out here sooking about Aroyo, go have a look where he was when Fitzgerald was put through 1 on 1 with the keeper.
perfectly positioned for the easy square up tap in (otherwise known as 'Thurgating'). but Fitzgerald took the shot (which wasnt the worst idea if hes confident).
Aroyo gets nothing out of it but did everything he should have done.

And SFCTV with their absolute hatred of us....didnt think it was a clear pen either.

Is NTS australia's best athlete ? I can't remember anyone with his level of strength, speed and endurance in any sport.
I wonder how far he could have gone if GVE didn't try and destroy him when he was young forcing him to play in a way that didn't allow him to show his best attributes.

just while all y'all out here sooking about Aroyo, go have a look where he was when Fitzgerald was put through 1 on 1 with the keeper.
perfectly positioned for the easy square up tap in (otherwise known as 'Thurgating'). but Fitzgerald took the shot (which wasnt the worst idea if hes confident).
Aroyo gets nothing out of it but did everything he should have done.

bloke is quickly becoming another Trifunovic to some of you lot.

No way

Trif was a lazy **** who didn't move

Arroyo on the other hand moves like Jagger

What utter bullsh|t. Hyphen blossomed under GVE. There's no way Hyphen would have been the player that captained Wanderers to an ACL title if he hadn't had the benefit of the GVE years.

Bullshit, GVE came in and pretty much showed him the door straight away

i did enjoy slaters commentary - "newcastle will be thinking about last week when they gave up the late goal to castro" or something like that. Of course, wanderers wouldn't be thinking about their last game where they gave up 3 goals in the last 35 minutes.

thought generally that the team played well except for the first 15 minutes or so of the second half. The team appears to be improving their understanding of each other and we are looking much better as a unit.

think the jackson and topor combo is really working well. i don't see boogs getting back into the team anytime soon.

Personally think we played fantastic

Arroyo is on point and will improve especially with wessi behind, dimi is looking more like our grand final making season and less like last season, the cb pairing of jackson and topor is working great and ugarkovic is still a class player

I'd love for one game to give bobby burns a shot at left back and have johnny k and ugar in the middle and see what happens even if it's only for a half

Which is ironic as GVE signed Topor for the Jets after the wooden spoon season after the GF win as part of the rebuild that saw Topor Ljubo Donny De Groot etc come in to try and save face for the club

Fast forward a couple of years when Tinkler come in and Middleby brings GVE back from the AIS one of the first things he does is give Topor the flick and not only that has the Jets paying his salary for a large part of that time at the WSW

Meanwhile the Jets could have done with a decent centre back in the next few years of struggles

Yep got rid because he apparently couldnt pass but forgets defenders need to be able to defend first, Plus his passing has been really good this year

Jackson has been unreal. Above most/all expectations.

The whole team really worked as a unit last night & have for a lot of the season, that’s why I don’t get the need to shit on players for the sake of it.

the "Johnny K is bad, Jackson is having a stormer" talk is the best part of the internet and its not even close.

Think the fact I had trouble narrowing down who should get my MOM vote because there was more than one really good performance is my highlight this week, if we can keep up the effort consistently we might make the six despite the budget buy team Martin has given us this season (I'll try not to get my hopes up just yet though as it does need us to be 'consistent' which isn't a strong Jets trait...)
