If I’m Joe Ledley I’m filthy leaving my family and isolating for 2 weeks just to sit on the bench behind players who aren’t good enough to shine his boots

He's not been playing due to fitness concerns / issues Stanny. Nothing to do with him not playing well.

I know that but he also has shown anything off the bench to warrant starting and we all know Ernie would've picked him no matter what

Btw, I spotted Western United kicking about on the old National Pk bolo area when I left Athfield after setting up for SAP this morning. Wondering if that was off their own bat or what we offered them as a club/City.
Can anyone shed light on their travel arrangements yesterday or today?

Young Maki’s leave will give him nightmares. Not that he would have scored as the last chance was the best he had, but it was a chance.

Wish we signed Berisha. Would be nice to have an absolute c*** of a player that everyone else hates that scores goals.

For interest, attached is the 10-game moving points average for the Jets. The red line is the point Deans transitioned to Robinson.

21 points from a possible 30 isn't our best. We achieved 22 in a 10 game period in the GF season under Merrick. But for comparison, that's the rate we're accumulating points.

Note - the line down from the 21 is the last game we have this season - graph is set up to cover the remainder of the year

More on Carl:

In the matches before Carl came in, we were conceding 2.13 goals per game this season and scoring 1.06.

In Carl's 9 matches, we've scored at 1.22 (11 in 9) however we've conceded 6 in 9 (0.66) goals per game. Such a massive turnaround

I think a big difference is that now we play from the back, no matter what.
Long balls and clearances directly to the opposition are reduced to a minimum: this has massively reduced the chances we give to the other team.
And it proves we had the quality to do that: we're handling pressing very effectively, we've lost only a bunch of balls in the last few games.
Ugarkovic has a huge role in all this.
We still need some work in the front third.

And yes, Boogaard beating and abusing the sh*t out of Berisha, while smiling at him, has made my week.

It's great we keep talking up our finals hopes, but my opinion is the season is over after results in a few games last week.

Firstly, Adelaide and Perth need a point from the last 2 and 3 games respectively.

Secondly, Western United and WSW have 4 and 3 games (respectively) in hand on us and need 5 points from those possible 12 or 9 to knock us out.

Thirdly, our goal difference is inferior (-11) to the others, with Perth +11, Adelaide -5, Western United +6 and WSW (-2).

We will aim to finish on 34 points, which i think will get us 7th or 8th. Interested in people's thoughts.

The biggest positive for the club right now is that the Gypos winning another spoon isn't enough to keep us happy anymore. We actually think we could do some damage come finals time.

That's much different than what it was pre-covid and for plenty of years of late.

Instead of creating a mainstream media panic (which it has already - even Gypos saying we're dirty on social media), how about just tracking said persons movements including where he sat on the night?
I thought we had an app that did that?

Yep would be extremely handy to know where the person was sitting at the very least, even better if we knew what outlets were visited - I was on the Northern end and the social distancing was very good on the night in that respect... but quite a few morons in the coffee line at half time not observing it the 1.5m.

I agree, the deadhead leagueys are playing it for all it's worth putting the boot into the Jets and real football (because it scares them for some reason), and the poor kid and his family, but I still think letting people know the person involved was in bay xyz could have saved 2700+ people wanting to swamp testing centres when they most likely were no where near him

I've got less sympathy for a bunch of kids who went on a bender during a pandemic

not suggesting they knew they were positive or even suspected theyd been exposed

but this just highlights how dangerous this is, three young blokes, doing what would be considered normal behaviour in normal times have resulted in 3000 people in lockdown

we all have a responsibility to avoid the spread of this

On the surface it looks like a bender. I don't know the facts so I'm I'd reserve my judgement. It also sounds like at the first sign of symptoms they've acted appropriately and isolated themselves.

However, I agree that I have less sympathy for people who would be deciding to go on bender during a pandemic as well. If we are behaving as we "normally" were, then it's probably not right.

You've hit the nail on the head about how dangerous this is and the responsibility we all have. We all should, have and will continue to have to make sacrifices.

The sad death of two men in their 30's is hopefully the wake up call needed to demonstrate the "younger" people in our community are not immune or pre-disposed to a "mild case".

turbojetfireV8
08-08-2020, 03:10 PM
Considering the stats say approx. 20% of all people who catch it will need to present to a hospital (mostly due to breathing difficulties I would assume), I think there is a dangerous perception out there in the community at the moment that this disease is somehow benign and they won't even notice they've got it (at least until they are bedridden by it)...

Unless they were doing these things with symptoms, I don’t think they are any “worse” than people going to the Jets games, going to the footy, going shopping for anything but essentials and groceries, socialising with other parents at their child’s games or in general socialising with anybody outside their personal family/household/work bubble.

The point is that maybe doing those things, particularly in the extreme way this family seems to have done it, maybe isn't appropriate right now

it only takes one family behaving like this to lock down a city

if you leave these decisions on whether to isolate or go on benders to the individual, you can't assume that everyone will act in the best interests of the rest of us

Why were jets teams travelling to a covid hotspot in the first place, Laurie?. A big cheer to the jets fans, broke the wanderers record of idiots to attend a covid game

Bremsstrahlung
08-08-2020, 08:33 PM
Just seems a bit rough calling out a family (virtually naming them with all the identifying comments) as being the reason for a COVID outbreak. Not like anybody has heard their story or knows the story behind it, that’s all. People get banned in the local forum for lesser comments.

It says in a Herald article that he attended the game before testing positive. So while visiting what, 3 pubs one night and to a football game the next day, was presumably unaware he was sick. Could’ve happened to anybody. Nothing illegal or malicious. I’m not sure the difference between that and frequenting a shopping centre and looking at multiple shops, or socialising with friends outside your family/work bubble. Venues have measured in place to comply and ensure safety.

As for the brothers, catching the bus to school and playing soccer hardly seems like “extreme” behaviour. It’s what thousands of other people are doing every day.

Sure, use it as an example to convey how quick and easy it is for something like this to spread. But I think some public comments, without knowing the story, doesn’t really help anything.

I’d argue every game that was going to be played today (weather permitting) given the knowledge of a potential cluster was more irresponsible.

turbojetfireV8
08-08-2020, 09:38 PM
100% agree with what you've said Brem, there was nothing malicious in what any of this family have done, they deserve support and sympathy for the way they are being treated at the moment.

My concern is more about the general complacency that has crept into the community of late, this kind of thing needs to be taken as a wake up call, but instead - reading the socials - it seems to be more a case of 3 kids being gleefully lambasted particularly by indignant thugby morons slamming the Jets as if their dropkick eggball sport is immune to anything like this possibly happening.

Moreover, what if HNE Health's sudden measures to protect aged care homes etc has more to do with the real possibility the boys may have picked it up locally? I would have thought the other team's parents would have got their kids tested just for peace of mind, and yet there has been no wider cluster mentioned, they are still referring to it as community transmission, the origin a 'mystery'. Those smug bastards having a go at the kids need to watch their own actions, if there is community transmission in our own backyard and it isn't being picked up yet anyone could be open to catching it if they don't take precautions (eggball ferals included).

sammydog
08-08-2020, 10:01 PM
My problem is, the coverage and commentary around this family may actually cause other families or individuals to not get tested if they have symptoms.

The media, and individuals need to tread carefully. If they continue to ostracize people who test positive, people won’t get tested.

I don’t believe the family have gone out of their way to cause an issue, nor do I believe it was caused through the emerging Jets. That said, as soon as Hunter New England Health advised against travel to Sydney, the Jets should have withdrawn.

I do wish though, if you want to go out to the pub, fine. But stick to your local and only one venue. At least then if the worst happens it’s contained to one venue.
