When are the fans of Newcasle Jets going to get a big name player to stand behind.

Yes I know last year will signed Jason Culina who fully fit would have been that player. but he never pull on the shirt and kick a ball.http://www.newcastlefootball.net/forum/images/smilies/grin.gif

This year again there is still something missing.

who do you think can be that play to stand up.

I pick of the free agents that are still without a team for the up coming season would be Michael Ballack

I was wishing to play for New York but the team sign other layers including Tim Cahill and there wasn't room. he is now looking in Asia for a run but I think he would love Newcastle life style and the beaches

Joel Griffith is a good player golden boot winner and still holds the most red and yellow card for the jets.:yay:

But he will not add 2000 plus members to the jets and I think he is not at the level of a Marquee Player

Heskey as a pure out and out target man that holds the ball up and lays it off has the potential to be effective for us. Still early days though, he might not sign at all!

Just please stay away from Vassell...

If Paul Ifill can carve it up as much as he does.. Im thinking Heskey will aswell!

He is going to have players with speed to burn playing around him, he will just get into the good positions to finish. Which is what we always lack!

Im excited about this one!

Did nothing, no track back, bitched and moaned the whole time.
His engines are rubbish, GVE will hate his guts.
This signing has Deans' fingerprints all over it.

Also: many chuckles at Crook on the wireless this morning saying that Heskey is only thinking of coming here coz Sydney has Del Piero. Reackons Sydney is giving everyone a leg up on player recruitment.

although i'd normally run to the general a-league thread for this, i'll put it here.

serj van dijk is apparently on his way out of the pissants, the indo club that were chasing him for 100k a while back are set to offer adelaide their asking price of 500k. although i love him, he's out of favour there at the moment with djite killing it & their imports doing good things. could be an awesome way for adelaide to free up a marquee spot (yep, serj & vidosic are their current marquees) plus they'll now officially have two foreign spots free (as cassio was legit approved as an "or-see mayte" the other day) although only one roster spot free.

novel aside, they possibly have room for a marquee & they're pretty set for strikers - they could make a play for someone like ballack if they had the coin.

Sahin: I know where Kaka is going

September 21, 2012

Nuri Sahin claims he knows which club Real Madrid playmaker Kaka will join when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Sahin is currently on loan at Liverpool from Real Madrid, and suggested his former team-mate Kaka has already made a decision on his playing future.

During the past summer, Kaka was linked to the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham, AC Milan and Galatasaray but remained in the Spanish capital after Real Madrid's asking price could not be met. The midfielder was also touted as a potential high-profile recruit for MLS outfit New York Red Bulls and A-League side Central Coast Mariners.

"I know he had an offer from Turkish football," Sahin told NTVSport.

"And I know what decision he is taking in the winter market, but I cannot reveal that."

Kaka has not made an appearance for Los Blancos thus far this campaign, and Sahin's comments will add to speculation the former Brazil international is set to exit the Bernabeu this winter.

Meanwhile, Sahin revealed he would be happy to make his stay at Liverpool a permanent one. The Turkey midfielder believes he has joined "the best team in England" at Anfield and praised the influence of skipper Steven Gerrard at the club.

"I went out on loan after three meetings with Mourinho. I chose Liverpool because I wanted to play at a club with a historical tradition," he said.

"I have played at big clubs in Germany and Spain and now I play for the best team in England.

"Steven Gerrard is a fantastic player and captain. He looks after the younger players, especially Raheem Sterling. I can learn many things from him, it's an honour to play alongside him."

Shinji Ono to Join the Wanderers

The NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the signing of Japanese FIFA World Cup star Shinji Ono.

Ono, 33, will arrive in Australia on Monday and will commence training in preparation for the Wanderers first ever game in the Hyundai A-League against Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium (Saturday 6 October, 7.45pm kick off).

He joins the Wanderers from Shimizu S-Pulse, who compete in Japan’s J-League.

Ono has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning 17 years, playing for Urawa Red Diamonds, Japan (1998-2001 & 2006-07), Feyenord, Netherlands (2001-05), Bochum Germany (2007-10) and Shimizu S-Pulse (2010-12).

As well as a distinguished career at club level, Ono has represented Japan on 56 occasions, including playing at three FIFA World Cups (1998, 2002, 2006).

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic is delighted to have someone of Shinji’s talent and experience joining the Wanderers.

“We have been in talks with Shinji and his management for a long time now, we have gone through the process and believe he will add a large amount to our squad across all areas,” Popovic said.

“He is an experienced player at all levels and has played on some of the biggest stages in the world, his professionalism at the top level will be good for all to see.”

Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman said the signing of such a top-class player would be warmly welcomed by the Wanderers Members.

“The signing of a Shinji Ono will bring plenty of quality to our team and plenty of excitement to Parramatta Stadium,” said Gorman.

“This complements our policy of developing western Sydney products. Shinji’s class and professionalism will rub off on all the young players we have.

“The added benefit is the international profile Shinji will bring to the Wanderers and give us another way to connect with fans across western Sydney.”

Apparently Ono has had an awful run with injuries over the past few years, so the success of this deal could hinge on how his body holds up.

Also Ballack has given WSW until tomorrow to make an offer.

From the WS forums.....

Michael Ballack and his attempt at joining the Wanderers appear to be nothing more than an agent looking for a payday.

With the innuendo regarding Michael Ballack, not to mention the media reports and negativity in the football community towards any possible 'deal breaker' with Ballack, I'd like to set the record straight. The general information has come from the Wanderers organisation.

No formal discussions took place with Michael Ballack from our understanding of the situation.

I believe all media reports have been leaked by Ballack's agent.

Upon hearing of Ballack's apparent desire to play for Western Sydney Wanderers FC the club management undertook a series of steps to research and examine both Ballack personally, his level of fitness as a player and how the move would benefit the Wanderers as a club. This due diligence research included:
He is 36 years of age as we all know.
He has injured his knee in the last handful of seasons.
He has ankle problems.
He fractured his shin recently.
In the past 3 years he has played a total of 33 League and 13 Cup or European games.
His last actual match was on May 4th.
He has apparently not been training since then.
He has apparently not hired the services of a personal trainer to keep match fitness.
He has had some alleged acrimonious departures from not just the German National team but also several clubs.
He has been concentrating on broadcast duties recently.
The final piece of information that must be known is the reported figure requested by his agent.

For a 6 month contract, the total fee the club would have been looking at was $2.2 million.

It is sobering to see our club being fiscally responsible and thorough in their research. It hold us in great stead for the future.

We have invested in young quality locals talent, experienced imports and a Japanese maestro.

What we all should be doing is celebrating the signing of Shinji Ono, which is confirmed. A player who not only younger than Ballack, however played only last weekend.

I haven't really kept tabs on Ballack since he left Chelsea but, according to wikipedia, he only played 4 less games that Emile Heskey did last season. The "fact" about only playing 33 league and 13 cup games in the last 3 years is not true, but obviously his recent run with injuries isn't good if that post is to be believed.

Ono's recent history seems good. It looks like that period of injury was when he was in Germany from '07-2010 where he played 32 games in 3 years.

Just on the subject of the WSW forum: a certain mod on this forum is lucky that a few of his posts concerning a certain Jets marquee player weren't on here. http://forum.sputnik-sat.info/public/style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif

Apparently those "facts" where put forward by Lyall Gorman himself.

As much as most folk didn't rate Gorman as head of A-league, I must say, I've had a bit to do with him with setting up a schools program in western Sydney and he is not doing much wrong. Credit where it's due.

As long as you don't his bare skin or make eye contact for a prolonged period your soul should still be ok.

Best carry some holy water or a garlic necklace though just to be safe.
