This is what helps kill football fan culture, which is meant to be spontaneous, aside from singing your theme song pre-match.

Countdowns to kick off, speakers blaring "give it up for your Newcastle Jets" (I hate 120 db ground announcers), and premeditated chants that are not related to the game.

Yeah , let's see who stands up when we are down 3-0 at home next.

Like Oi, Oi, Oi and similar it's done for the bandwagoners and the kids.

someone's gotta step up if the NCL is too scared about being leaders off the pitch

may as well be the ground announcer at this rate

yeah i know but in Newy we cannot operate any other way.

It must must be simple, timed and well known. it is simple league town mentality

Thing is though we aren't the only a-league team that does it.

Sydney fc have the words of the "The famous sydney fc chant" come up on the screen. Wanderers ground announce yells out the players names and the crowd follows.

Least its better then the coast and having a brass band walking around the stadium when the games on.

wait up.
so you hate all the club led stuff apart from the club led stuff you like?

That was a slight concession that I can live with...even Liverpool and West Ham play a song soundtrack pre-match even though they've been singing their songs unassisted for years.

So what’s more important to you.

a) the chants being done the ‘proper’ way.

Or

b) the chants being done the loudest and most inclusive way.

I'll be honest - I prefer it spur of the moment by the fans, in relation to what is happening on the field.

I hate the "Noo car sul" chant, but at the 2008 GF it rang out and made the hairs stand.

B all day, but I hate the mega phone.

I like the idea of ground speaker to help get everyone involved plus word up on the big screen would help the (plastic) supporters get involved more to..

Anyone know the lyrics to that chant we had for an old squadron chant we used to do.

Newcastle whoah x3
We're happy and we sing
When the ball goes back to the wing
Was that the lyrics?

I wanna try and bring it back next Saturday.

I'd love to see how we could use this song this season:

LIGHT 'EM UP is very appropriate for a team called the Jets.

Even has the lyrics "I'm just dreaming of tearing you apart"

Such a good balance to "Never Tear Us Apart"

In all my time working on them or watching strike footage, I don't think i've ever heard anybody use that phrase or even refer to it if i am honest

Well what term would you use? I actually contacted the RAAF museum to ask them what term they use to select and fire on an enemy and they didn't have a clue.

Well there's your first problem. Museum is only going to know about Aircraft, not pilot terminology

What term they use is dependant on whatever munition they are firing.

Ok, what are the range of terms used. I'm genuinely interested and you are the first person who knows something about it.

I didn't want to ring up the RAAF with such a non important question

NVM. I've got my own contacts in the RAAF, including a former pilot, just haven't used them. However, I doubt there will be such a ready made song for any term that is more genuinely used than "Light em up". The public understand that "Light em up" is a military term, even if only in the movies.

FFS, they don't have to sing the song. It is the Oh Oh Oh part that the Squadron can pick up. Got any suggestions yourself? trying to organise this shit I have just felt this overwhelming sense of negativity from every corner of Jets fandom. What they hell is wrong with you all?

I played it at the Thirsty Messiah in the lead up to the march to the stadium and it had a vibe. Helped build excitement for the game.

I think going down early killed the vibes a tad. But will see what happens this year.

Definitely think we can grow with results this year

Thanks for clarifying that. I'm starting to see these negative responses like "Sorry, never happening" without any context as just attacks. The forum used to be a place where you could put stupid shit up and some of it would work and some of it wouldn't and the humour was so incredibly funny. I am probably the worst person to think of football chants but nobody else is doing it. Yeah, like Buddha said, noone is asking me to do it, except some people did. The kids asked for help and they are really great kids and they actually appreciate it. The kid couldn't drum yesterday because he had blisters. Nobody asked me to go to first-aid and get him tape but I did it anyway.

There is 100% PTSD if youve stuck with the Jets since the beggining pretty much

Yeah, had a chat during first half with a mate who has been with it from the start, and moved from the half-way line to the Southern hill for the last 3 seasons. He has survived by just enjoying the comradery and accepting that this is our club, not Tottenham Hotspur (his EPL club). He has managed to retain his sanity with very little PTSD. I was impressed.

Dangerous to ask for people's thoughts on here atm Dylan.

I thought the pre-game was unbelievably good. It kind of had this punk CBGB vibe to it. Was so happy that (probably shouldn't mention who because of existing sponsorships) showed up and they got the vibe.

The guys in Bay 1 just need some experience. Someone needs to look out for players to chant for when they do something class on the field, using the chants on WhatsApp for the players or coming up with new ones on the day. Having a range of them like "Super Clayton Taylor" etc will work well. There was too much Ole Ole and not enough chants to reference what we were watching.

The guys I talked to in Bay 1 were just so nice. They talked about how they fell in love with Active Support by watching us when they were kids.

I think it is going to be a return to the glory days, because that is what they all want.

Yeah, with the small numbers I suggested the guys to face the players only and direct their voices at them. Normally everybody is facing each and every way so the sound goes everywhere but it seemed reasonable that the players needed to sound more than the crowd did.

Came up with some more traditional football chants to use for Wellissol, Susnjar, Lachie Rose, Eli Adams and Kosta Grozos.

Helps keep the chanting going if you can respond to a good piece of skill on the pitch.

Which other player is going to need one? Aquilina had a shot on target last game

The music for corners has to go - you may struggle to get rid of loud music at other times.

SFC fans complained last week that they tried to do a chant off against the RBB pre game but the loud music meant they could not hear the other side until the game kicked off.

Honest I always say this is a push against traditional support in favour of something more "family friendly".

An example is "Sweet Caroline", pushed not because it has anything to do with football but it is a family singalong and gets us away from horrible things like "The Celery Song" and "Who Are The Scum?"

And yet every second pop song has an Explicit lyric warning.

Sweet Caroline is clearly a creepy old man (neil diamond) singing about a little girl (caroline kennedy - 11 years old at the time the song was written). Not something I'd want to be joining in on in a family singalong.

I'm not sure there is a direct motive to replace something with something more "family friendly". I think it is more a belief amongst media types that you have to be constantly be entertaining people and if there is a break in the entertainment you have to fill it with something.

It would be good to ask the club directly what the motivation for it is. Something maybe the Squadron boys or the Supporters committee can do and feed it back to us.
