Key points of the NYL draw for us . Gypo derby in the yoofs at Stade de Newy prior to the 2nd of 3 F3 Derby's

All other home games at Wanderers Oval. Possible Tenzo session for those keen

Entry is free to Members. Well was last year anyway. So no real excuses not to get down and take in a game when you can.

Do note the first game of the season is away at Gypo HQ. It also falls the morning after the F3 derby. Possiblity assuming the good guys win to go down there and turn up in force to rub in the HAL result on Gypo territory. That being said will be a good idea to keep a low profile and colours well hidden at said game if we were to lose

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets National Youth League head coach Clayton Zane says the Jets youth team are close to finalising their squad for the 2012/13 NYL season.

The young Jets open their campaign against the Central Coast Mariners in Tuggerah on Sunday, October 21 and Zane said he only has a handful of positions left to fill.

“We’re only a few weeks into the preparation and we’ve focused mainly on conditioning,” Zane said.

“This week we’ll look to confirm the squad, get the train-on players added in and focus a bit more on the tactical side of things.

“We prefer to go with local-based players so we’ll have a look at some of the NSWIS boys and some younger ones as well.

“We’ll probably end up with a squad of around 15, but we’ll obviously have some first teamers coming back to play with us each week as well.”

Zane said having a core group of players in the squad who played in this year’s NBN State League would prove crucial to the chemistry of the team.

“It’s a four week pre-season and for two weeks of that, half the group isn’t here,” he said.

“With that in mind, it’s good to have some players around who already know the system.

“It’s going to be a pretty steep learning curve for the others who need to get on board straight away with what we’re trying to do.

“They’re here for their development on a technical level as well as a tactical level. You give the ones that show the technical side a bit more time to get the tactical stuff right.”

Zane said the young Jets will be looking to improve on their eighth-placed finish last season.

“There are a couple of players who qualify for youth team level but are training full time with the first team, guys like Jack Duncan, Mitch Cooper and Mitch Oxborrow,” he said.

“We’ll be competitive and looking to hopefully finish in the top three or four.”.

See you learn something new every day!!!

ROUND 1
21 Oct 12 10:30am Central Coast Mariners FC Vs Newcastle Jets FC Centre of Excellence

JOHN McLafferty’s Mariners Youth team commence their NYL campaign this Sunday 21 October at Central Coast’s Centre of Excellence.

The junior yellow and navy will host Newcastle Jets Youth at the impressive Tuggerah complex, with free entry for all fans. Kick-off is 10:30am.

Mariners Youth have enjoyed a strong pre-season campaign and most recently secured 1-0 wins over competition rivals Sydney FC and Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Last week, a Daniel Bragg bullet ensured Central Coast Youth downed the baby Sky Blues, while on Saturday a headed goal from train-on squad member Jayden Tumeth-McLeod – from Bragg’s corner – secured victory over AIS.

This Sunday’s junior F3 Derby contest between the Mariners and Jets promises to be entertaining fixture for fans.

Jets Youth spent the “off-season” playing in the Northern NSW State League, while McLafferty has helped assemble a strong Mariners Youth team.

Indeed, the Mariners will be out to get off to the best possible start in Australia’s premier youth development competition, as they look to defend their 2011/12 Championship success and groom more Hyundai A-League stars of the future.

McLafferty has retained four of the players from the Mariners’ 2011/12 NYL roster. Talented custodian David Bradasevic, Australian youth representatives
Hayden Morton and Nikola Stanojevic, as well as explosive right-winger-cum-full-back Adam Jenner will don the yellow and navy once again.

Meanwhile, local lad Louis Bozanic – brother of Mariners A-League star Oliver – will play for the Club, as will two other Coast juniors, Josh Forbes and Steve Whyte.

Central Coast Mariners 2012/13 NYL Squad: Louis Bozanic, David Bradasevic (Gk), Daniel Bragg, Tommy Cirjak, Jordan Crighton, Patrick Dixon, Josh Forbes, Adam Jenner, Hayden Morton, Mickey Neill, Kieren Paull, Aaron Peterson, Nikola Stanojevic, Luke Turnbull (Gk), Dillon Vorster, Steve Whyte

As far as I was aware it is 100% accurate. Out of the Jets NBN State League Yoof team Mason Campbell, Kale Bradbery, Remo and our HAL Squad players Galloway Duncan Chilli Peppz Oxborrow etc were retained. The rest were all purged to make way for Gen next. Clacka was gonna have a look at the NSWIS boys who won the 18's at NBN Level and start filling the squad with these guys. Haven't seen how this has unfolded but that was the plan.

On another note have heard a rumour that after our club joined the NBN State League for year round football that our Gypo's have looked to do likewise and have applied to join the NSW State League where they will be playing Marconi/Sydney Olympic/Sydney Croatia etc. If so I am pissed because we should have joined there as well. No offence to NNSW FED and the NBN State League but feel long term the NSW State League is where this projects future lies

Mariners midfielder Tommy Cirjak scored the first goal for the yellow and navy.

JOHN McLafferty’s reign as Central Coast Mariners Youth boss got off to the best possible start on Sunday. First half goals to Tomislav Cirjak and Adam Kwasnik ensured Mariners Youth triumphed 2-1 over Newcastle Jets Youth in the junior F3 Derby played at the Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence.

Like the Hyundai A-League clash between the two clubs played on Saturday night, the game was played at a high tempo. And it took only a minute for the first chance of the encounter to be fashioned. Newcastle’s Brazilian import Bernardo Ribeiro struck from range, however his effort was straight at Mariners custodian Justin Pasfield who dealt with the shot comfortably.

In the 17th minute the home team took the lead via a first time finish from Cirjak. A flowing move through midfield found Troy Hearfield wide on the right. Hearfield crossed low across the face of goal, and with his left boot Cirjak fired a crisp shot beyond Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan.

It would take only six minutes for McLafferty’s team to double their advantage. Again, the cross came in from the right side, but this time in the air via the impressive Patrick Dixon. Timing his run to perfection Kwasnik met the ball with purpose, steering his header neatly past Duncan and into the back of the net.

The Jets came out with intent after the break and would take just two minutes to halve the deficit. Midfielder Mitchell Oxborrow netted for the away team to get Clayton Zane’s side on the board.

With both teams making wholesale changes throughout the second half, the game seemed to lose some of its fluency. Nevertheless, both teams continued to attack and the Jets were awarded a penalty by referee Stephen Lucas with only five minutes to play.

Marko Jesic had the opportunity to earn a point for his team, however Pasfield made a fine double save to deny the former Australian youth representative. From the penalty Pasfield dropped low to his right to thwart Jesic, before springing to his feet to block the rebound.

And despite a few late raids by the Jets, McLafferty’s boys held on to commence their National Youth League title defence in the best way possible.

Following the match, McLafferty said he was happy with the effort from his team but noted there are still areas for the side to improve upon.

“Any win is a good win,” he said. “I think there is a long way to go but there is a lot of good ball players out there and we’re happy with the way we went forward but defensively we still have some room for improvement.”

Central Coast Youth play their next match away to Melbourne Heart on Saturday 27 October at John Cain Memorial Park in Victoria.

Got up this morning after the big night before yeahhaaa and left the palatial Kotara Sth abode at about 9am for the 10:30 kick off at Tuggerah. The only reason I had left so early as I was a bit iffy on directions to the joint. I was relying on the advice of a Gypo only because Google Maps had left me down. When i typed in Central Coast Mariners Centre of Excellence during the week to get an idea of where to go Google replied neither of the words Central Coast and Mariners don't go in the same sentence as Excellence. Anyways Google Maps has NFI with it. Got to the ground about 10am and had the delight of seeing the Members favourite Manager the Egg (well he is at the moment after last night) pull up in the car park in the vehicle of one Craig Deans

Now apoligies to Plague and Q Man for not slashing Deans tyres but in my defence he was chaperoning the Egg about I couldn't have the Egg stranded in some Gypo shit hole this arvo and missing any conference call hook ups going on this arvo back at HSG HQ to complete the return to Newy of our glorious Lord Griffo from China. Imagine being that guy??

Anyways when I looked over the boys warming up you can imagine the Members disgust when it dawned that Kale Bradbery had a subs bib on at the Members Kale fapfest would be on pause.

Jets line up
GK Duncan
RB Hoole
LB Brillante
CB Chapman
CB Galloway
DM Kanta
CM Peppz
CM Oxborrow
RW Jeisc
LW Bernardo
CF Ilic
Subs Mason Campbell, Remo, Kale, Bradasevic (Gk)

Now haven't seen much of this Ilic fella but FFS Clacka Illic out Kale In

Anyways the mouth watering prospect awaited all Jets fans at the ground to see who was the worst player on the books at the club. In the red corner we had Kanta In the Blue Corner we had Jesic and in the gold corner we had Galloway.
Winner by TKO was none other than Jesic. Hopefully the prize is deportation from the country

First Half Kicked off with Peppz buzzing about everywhere doing his best impersonation of Zads. We settled alright and started to play with no real thrust up front though. Seemed to be missing a quality striker although we had one on the bench!!! Bernardo looked lively with some good passes and good vision picking out players the average Aussie player don't see.

Anyways the Gypos Reserve side and I will call them that because that is what they ****ing were. Kwasnik Bozanic Hearfield Pasfield are all senior HAL standard players ( they may be all crap but they are a bit older than YOOF) Good to see Arnie investing in the Yoof. At least bar Jesic and Bernardo our boys were all ****ing boys and not ****ing old enough to remember the 80's

Well the Gypos were also getting into the game and created 2 goals in the space of about 8 mins after about 20 mins in. First goal got in behind the Jets left back Brillante cross come in on the deck for Kwasnik who ****ed it up and missed it ball rolled to unmarked Gypo on back post about 6 yards out who made no mistake. Second goal came in almost similar fashion except this time ball picked out unmarked Kwasniks head about 8 yards out and he made no mistake.

Gypos at 2-0 up were a bit fortunate to be so far in front but they took the chances and punished us for 2 poor lapses of concentration in what was otherwise a well functioning back 4 for the most part and we weren't doing much up front despite reasonable build up play.

Anyways about 40 mins in and we won a free kick near the corner flag and Mitchy OX whipped it in. It was either Sammy G or Connor Chap who got a free header in from a central position 6-8 yards out. Now I would like to tell you the net bulged but somehow it missed.

Anyways HT 2-0 Gypos

Gypos in control of the game but not to the extent of being deserving of a 2 goal lead

HT Came and went Jets returned to the park on the front foot with Clackas disgust in their ears and turned in a 300% better effort in the second half. 2 mins in and we were back in after Mitchy OX hit a knee high bouncing ball from about 20-25 yards out with a bit of swerve and dip into the roof of the net. Cracker of a finish Next few mins and we really started taking control of the game.

Clayton Zane then showed some tactical genius by removing some of the weak links from the team Kanta and Brillante(who wasn't the best today)and Cilic were brought off Mason Remo and Kale went on. Tactical reshuffle took place. Peppz and Ox dropped into the DM/CM role, Mason went to RB Hoole went to LW Remo to LB Bernardo to AM and Kale at CF. All of a sudden we started to look Barcelonaesque.

Hooley was carving them up with some great dribbling and Bernardo was OWNING them in the centre of the park. It is a shame that Goody Grifflet and Chilli are going so well at present. What Bernardo was offering in the centre of the park even at NYL level would be an asset to us at HAL that we probably haven't seen since Nicky Carle with the run dribble and short passes in a forward direction into tight spots. Don't really like him out in the wide attacking roles but as a AM he looks the goods. Needs a bit more time to get to grips with the defensive and team aspects GVE is big on but this bloke given 3 months to adapt will be a star in out HAL side

About 70 mins in and it looked like we were level. Kale with a wonderful turn just outside the d and then ran at goal and with a cracker of a left footed finish into the roof of the net was pulled back for a marginal offside call just as the Member was reaching for a pack of Kleenex. Class work none the less.

The domination continued from us with the Gypos on rare counter forward with Duncan unthreatened. Anyways with about 5 mins to go it looked like our 2nd half domination would be rewarded when Connor Chpaman was awarded a penalty after some Gypo shirt pulling in the box. Ironic part of it all day was that Connor himself sailed close to the wind on 3-4 occasions when in our box.

Anyways after the award of the pen there was a bit of a disagreement amongst the ranks as to who would have the honour Chapo was keen as mustard and so was Jesic. As soon as Jesic won the battle of wills I had a bad feeling about the outcome. Jesic failed to disappoint with an almost carbon copied job to recreate ADP's WSW 2nd penalty last night. Anyone who seen the ADP goal V WSW last night has a fair idea how it went. Shitful penalty to the keepers right parried back out. Penalty taker then followed up. This is where the similarities between ADP and Jesic end. ADP smashed the lifeline into the net Jesic straight at the keeper.

Its a good thing the Yoof is a good learning kerb for players and allows them to make mistakes and not be punished severely. Connor Chapman will hopefully have learned a great lesson from this.

If he hasn't I will tell him anyway,Next time we win a pen and Jesic wants to take it. Land a right cross on the ****s chin and take it yourself.

Anyways we continued pushing on and despite huffing and puffing and nearly blowing the house down we still went down 2-1.

Plenty of positives out of the game Chapman Bernardo Peppz Hooley
Low Lights Kanta was his usual useless self and Jesic would have to be the worst player to ever wear a Newy shirt.

The team will defo be highly competitive this year and the Gypos will be happy to get away with 3 points they probably on balance didn't deserve

NExt game contrary to the list at top which I will adjust is 6:30pm KO at Wanderers Oval this thursday night 25-10-12 against WSW

Who is this Illic who started in front of Bradbery?
Kale was one of the best performers in the NBN League for the Jets and finished top scorer, you would think he would start as the main striker....unless this Illic is something special! It also shites me that the likes of Oxborrow and Cooper get apprentice contracts in front of someone like Hooley who clearly has more talent.
It's a myth that Zane prefers "local-based" players.....just ask how many NSWIS lads have been promoted into the Youth squad???

I drove down there. Trains were down and it was a last minute decision. Had troubles finding the place aswell so I had to ask some locals at a nearby petrol station.

Not alot of Jets fans there unfortunately & mariners fans (early start wouldn't have worked) & a majority would have had a sleep in from last night. The ground is quite a new facility and apparently there is a grandstand yet to be built.

Game was a little boring, probs didnt help as I went by myself. Did however get a little chat with Gary van egmond.

Then after the game went to westfield tuggerah for a feed & funny enough ran into a Jets fan that lives in gosford.

Did I see you there MFKS? I was the bloke with the red cap on.

http://www.sydneyolympicfc.com/news/2012/01/31/the-sky-is-the-limit-for-stevan-ilic/

Article on the bloke. From what I have seen of him ie the 60 mins today he wasn't that good. Seemed to be a bit below the pace and a step behind his teammates. Did rifle in a powerful shot from a tight angle into the side netting just wide of the top corner.

Totally agree on your comments on Kale being a starter but thats no surprise!!!

Hooley does have some great talent but he also has a bit of an attitude problem. Always seems to get given stupid needless cards for dumb shit. Got 1 today for back chat. Yelled at the ref another time asking for one also.

Today he gave away the ball at the back and stood around as the Gypos raced away. Thank **** Duncan saved his arse with a good save. The standing around after an error and not chasing back to try and make amends is one of those little things that sets apart the kids who make it and the kids who don't. I am sure the Egg and Deans who were in attendance will have seen it coz I did and it wasn't a good look.

Also remember a game in the NBN League this year where Hooley was playing RB on the side of the field the coaches were on. All half he was getting yelled at by coaching department (with Pascoe who was in charge at the time remaining silent) as Hooley wanted to wander upfield and desert his role/position in the team. Continued to ignore them and after several times being told mouthed off back at the coaching bench. Pascoe was straight onto him this time and told him in no uncertain terms to shut his mouth and do what was required or else. Next week Hooley sat the game out and it weren't thru injury.

The kids got talent but he needs to work on his attitude big time if he wants to make it at this level.

As far as your point about the Yoof contracts well I think we are only allowed to give out 3-4 so it is always gonna be impossible to fit all in who may be worthy

My thoughts on the match... spent most of the game watching Ilic or Pepper.

Ilic, not sure what to make of him. Looks half decent, half shit and gave the ball away far too easy a lot of the time, especially for their first goal. Well positioned for the goal but the cross from Hoole is what made that. Was sitting in the stand right behind it, was beautiful.
Pepper... what is his role? When on the ball, looked great but to my untrained eye looked like he was spending a lot of time running to catch up to play. Was well behind the play when we moved into attack or was too far advanced when we were defending. As I said though, looked great with the ball though.

Other thoughts...
Chapman looks ridiculously composed for a kid.
Gallaway - I now totally understand the shit he gets on here. Awful.
Remington - what was his injury? Left the ground straight away by the looks of things

Was also impressed with how our right side moved around and covered positions when someone went on an attacking run... couple of times Hoole over lapped and we lost possession, whoever our right side midfielder was (Mason Campbell?) was usually well positioned at right back. Same for a couple of Chapman's marauding runs, we didn't look horribly exposed.

RW Bobby Russell ( This bloke may be actually called Bobby Russell may not be either but he is unknown to the Member and when I asked someone who it was they said Bobby Russell so this bloke after he goes on to make 400 HAL appearances for the Jets and scores the winning goal in a GF will from now on be referred to as Bobby Russell by the Member)

Anyway the game kicked off with the Jets playing that long forgotten possession based game of yesteryear from them. You know the one we have been practicing all season but rarely see from the HAL outfit who have suddenly thrown Plan A out the window and moved on to Plan Heskey.

The Jets were doing good with the ball for the first 10 mins or so except for Sammy G who must have been training with the HAL squad all week coz all he wanted to do was hoof the ball up the park to no one in particular in red and blue. Anyways 15 mins in and despite dominating possession we had barely put a foot into the WSW final 3rd due to a lack of a cutting edge up front. Bobby Russell was having a hard time getting in the game. Ilic was again looking lost with the formation and structure and Kale was seeing shit quality ball.

Matter of fact after about 15 mins the shot count must have read Jets 0 WSW 5. All of these coming from the WSW side capitalising on poor play from us. Most of the time it was caused by after stringing 15 or so passes together and going nowhere some dumb **** would play a pass to someone who had no chance in hell of maintaining possession as there was 2-3 blokes on him by the time the ball arrived. WSW were springing forward and getting some attacking done of their own although were not really looking threatening.

About 17 mins that all changed when a WSW bloke got down the right wing and pulled the ball back to the on rushing WSW midfielder No 6 who smashed in from 8 yards giving Duncan no chance.

AS the boys are trotting back to half way I am sitting there a little perplexed at what has gone on. We have had 70% of possession have been knocking the ball around nicely at times. Haven't had a ****ing shot on goal. WSW have spent most of their time trying to keep their shape and chasing the ball and have 6 shots at goal and 1 of them going on the scoreboard. Gotta love this possession based game the Egg wants us to play. I take it that is not the normal desired outcome of it??

Anyways not much changed for the next 10 mins WSW got a few more shots away we kept the ball and went nowhere.
About 28 mins in and it got worse. We conceded a corner which was partially cleared and then Oxborrow scrambled it further clear. Only problem was it went straight to their No 6 who from about 25 yards out on the corner of the box rifled a shot into the back of the net.

Now I didn't have the best view of it but it looked like a top quality strike so I will give Duncan the benefit of doubt for not moving though I will stand corrected if he was at fault here a the location of the shot was from a similar spot to where Tommy Oar laid on the cross to Archie Thompson in the WCQ V Iraq the other week. Not really a location where a goal keeper worth his salt should be getting beaten from very often.

Anyways 2-0 down 70% or so possession and we have barely fired a shot in anger. You have to be asking what the **** is going ON??

Whether it was the 2-0 scoreline that motivated the boys or just the shear weight of possession but we finally got some shots in!!!! With about 3 mins to go we were on the score board. Andrew Hoole made the goal with some scintillating wing play not seen in a Jets shirt since last weekends effort by Chilli that resulted in Heskey's bitch being sung loud and proud around Stade de Newy.

Bobby Russell must also take some credit for the goal. Not sure what for but he was over in that part of the park so he must have done something to facilitate the goal even if he didn't touch the ball.

Hooley went on one of his mazy little runs down the right took on a couple of players and fired in a cross. Ilic showing a good strikers instincts ran to the near post and then nipped in front of the defender and diverted into the net. Now that was good work by the kid as most times the ball would have been cleared by the defender but Ilic showed the desperation a quality player has that enables them to want the ball more than the defender

Where is that in the rest of his game though?? I see bits and pieces that he has talent but I am baffled as to why he is starting. He doesn't seem to follow/understand the structure well we are playing and what his role is as the No 9
Right on half time we were nearly level and it was the Members GWH who after running from half way had a shot from the edge of the d that brought a full stretched save from the WSW keeper to prevent it arrowing into the corner of the net

At half time I am sitting there my Sausage sanga and drink thinking how good is this. Reminded me of days of yesteryear at Breakers Stadium sitting around at a half empty joint (Ok there was only 200-300 there but you will get the point) on a warm summers evening watching some football. The sort of experience you sort of miss sitting in the new fangled concrete monstrosities called stands at HAL games.

The Halftime Break seen some of the most exciting action of the night. A pitch invasion occurred where someone ran onto the pitch and left a Caution Wet Floor Sign in the northern goal and then managed to avoid the non existent security and re jump the fence and head back into the Crowd. A couple of blokes started to liven the atmosphere up by chanting from either goal back and forth to one another but didn't gain much supporting traction

Second half started with Pepper x2 and Kale both blazing over the bar. Not long after we were greeted by 2 "yobbos" loitering in the gardens outside the Northern end of the ground. Turns out the boys had been tossed out from an NYL game for being too intoxicated. Now FFS lads if you are gonna get tossed out of an NYL game at least rip some ****ing Pyro and make it worth while. Anyways the boys were quite keen to let the bouncers know they were still about and went in to a series of songs including Plastic Policeman and Goulburn Reject.

Now apologies for talking so much about the crowd at this point in time but the football on the pitch was pretty hard to digest. We were again dominating to the extent that Jack Duncan could have left the ground and went into the stands and sat back and started knocking off some beers and he wouldn't have been missed. The domination was not actually paying much dividends though with clear cut chances at a premium and decent chances being harder to find than a Gypo Grand Final winning DVD.

About 60 mins in and Clacka rang the changes. Kale was put in up front. ABOUT ****ING TIME. Bobby Russell who had a blinder of a match in the Members eyes. Ok maybe he didn't but I am giving the bloke some praise here was subbed along with Galloway and Ilic. On came James Brown Cowburn and some other bloke wearing the no 12 shirt.

Couple of notable things happened after this

1 Remington put in a jump worthy of an Olympic Pole Vault final where he must have got 3 to 4 metres off the ground after jumping to brace for a collision he then bounced off the Wanderers player and got airborne even more and come down rather hard head first. Not something you usually see in this sport and Remo was a bit dazed afterwards

2 Somehow the Jets managed to con the 4th official to allow Remo top be subbed off and replaced by the recently departed Sammy Galloway. How the **** you can sub a bloke on who has only just been subbed off in a competitive fixture beats the **** out of me!!!

3 The No 14 from WSW the little African/Aussie kid would have to be the dumbest player I have ever seen. Managed to get owned and skinned on 2 occasions by Sammy Galloway. That bloke ought to give the game away after that

With about 15 mins to go boy did we have a glorious chance to equalise. Great work down the right by Hooley got him to the byline instead of picking the dimple ball to Kale who had lost his man and was free 12 yards out waiting for the cutback he played it across to Micky Finlayson who was arriving on the back post. Somehow he ****ing missed.

Not long later and we had another great chance when Kale showing his usual turn of foot outpaced the defenders and managed to toe poke the ball past the keeper before getting poleaxed in the collision. Ball trickled past post but the Member was more livid as to why no penalty??

Anyway with about 86mins gone and we were level. Cue the Fapfest.:fap: Kale played the 1-2 with Finlayson around the box in a neat interchange of short passing. Kale then looked up and after a couple of shimmies and maybe after a step over or two and the faking of a Rabona let fly from about 16 yards out into the roof off the net.

THIS PART NOW WON'T BE REPORTED AS THE MEMBER WAS BUSY WITH KLEENEX

A goal worthy of any occasion none the less.

As if to honour the Members fapfest the lads finally found their mojo in the final 3rd the remainder of the game was basically the Jets storming the WSW with the same level of passion Rubes showed in the first 30 seconds of the F3 Derby. Jimmy Brown beat a man or two and then tried picking out the corner from 20 yards only to draw a great save from the WSW keeper. Someone hit the crossbar. After a series of pin ball in the box the ball fell to an unmarked Jet in No 12 who saw his shot divert off the keeper and inches wide. Even Kale nearly nicked it with a glancing header from 8 yards out that the keeper somehow clawed out of the net to prevent the impending greatest ever Members fapfest from getting started. Anyways despite the huff and puff we still weren't able to knock the house down.

Two games so far where we have went down 2-0 after 25-30 mins and have then come back into. First one we only went down coz some **** let Jesic take a penalty. Second one we got a draw. Positive signs is that we seem to be running over the top of teams in games fitness wise. NBN State League stint has obviously helped this. Negative is that twice we have been down 2 nil after 25 mins.

Blokes who put a case forward for First Team action - Connor Chapman >> Still have NFI how he is playing at this level. Looks like a man amongst boys. Should be thrown into the HAL side more often.

Hooley - Had a good game and would have done his chances no harm

Bobby Russell - Not sure what he done to warrant first team selection because he was a little anonymous in my eyes but if Marko Jesic has been given a chance at HAL level then anythings possible for Bobby Russell

Blokes who put a case forward for Youth Team Bench warming action

Marko Jesic - Useless as usual and was completely anonymous. Some may say well he didn't even play. I will say you are making excuses for him

Ilic - Can't quite work out why we have him. As he is a Sydneysider why isn't he at the Smurfs/WSW/Even Gypos. Whatever talents he has in my eyes ain't enough to be pushing Kale out of position/team. We look so much better with Kale up front than with Ilic. For whatever reason we have created about 8 times the shots with Kale up front as the 9 in 1/3 of the time than Ilic up fornt. The bloke looks lost in how our 4-3-3 works.

Anyways Q Man and Plague can we start to think about giving this Zane bloke the Craig Deans level of treatment??? This bloke is shitting me right off with his ineptness almost to the same extent as Deans does to you guys

Yoof games are usually pretty dull atmosphere wise SD. If you wish please fell free to try out some new ideas. Start some new chants, bring a vuvezuela or rip some PYRO for a laugh.

One of the best aspects to the Yoof games can also be the lack of noise. When an opposing player gets close enough they can hear your sledging and can even work out who it came from.

Just ask the WSW defender who cut out a ball which hit him on the upper arm (Not handball) and went out of play. The WSW defender started rolling around the ground Tiago style. As the ref trotted over to see what happened. Member let fly with "Harden up Princess it only hit you on the arm no need to roll around like a girl" at no louder than normal speaking volume to someone 10-15 yards away.

Ref also heard it and went from coming over seriously checking on player welfare to a "You heard him Get the **** Up" attitude to the player. WSW Player got up giving a scowl to Member for spoiling his play acting

What happened to 80% of the Youth team being made up of local players?
Also as far as I am aware only one NSWIS player from this year has been promoted to the Youth squad (keeper Nick Hartnett). Makes sense doesn't it....Northern sets up programs and pathways which we are told eventually lead to the Jets but in reality these boys are still getting bypassed by the "superstars" from Sydney who were obviously rejected by Sydney FC and now WSW. Keep it up Zane....you are really endearing yourself to the Hunter football community!!!

Can't imagine why being that the game should be played under the FIFA Laws of the Game with any local FFA rules also added. Can't imagine why there would be an "interchange" rule or you would be able to make another sub once all other subs had been used due to injury. Anytime else you play with 10 men.

Wasn't keeping track of the WSW subs as such. I remember their keeper was replaced but am unsure as to whether they had used their allotted subs or not when this occurred

Late goals from Kale Bradbery and Radovan Pavicevic secured a first win of the National League Season for Newcastle Jets as they downed Perth Glory 3-2 on Sunday.

Making light of a bumpy pitch and blustery conditions at Intiga Stadium in Inglewood, both sides played their part in an entertaining contest before the Jets struck in the 88th and 90th minutes to clinch the points.

The visitors came into the game looking for their first victory of the season and made the best possible start by taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes.

Glory defender Matthew Davies floored Stevan Ilic as he powered his way into the box and Bradbery made no mistake from the spot.

Stung by that early set-back, the hosts forced their way back into the contest as the half wore on, with Chris Harold looking especially lively as he backed up from his goalscoring appearance for the senior side on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old midfielder went close on 17 minutes before playing a key role in his side's equaliser which arrived on the half-hour mark.

Ndumba Makeche got away down the right and delivered a deep cross which Harold nodded back across goal for Ryo Nagai to drill home from close range.

Having restored parity, Gareth Naven's men seized the initiative and should have got their noses in front before the break.

Makeche twice failed to find the net when sent clean through on goal, while Nagai fired over from just inside the box and then saw his 25-metre free-kick kept out by a scrambling save from Jets 'keeper Matthew Nash.

Glory should have made it 2-1 within seconds of the second-half getting underway, but Jesse Makarounas delayed his shot after the Jets played themselves into trouble and Nash was able to make a comfortable save.

Zahra was the next to go close for the hosts, firing wide after being teed up by Makeche before the referee was forced to call a brief halt to proceedings as a deluge of hail swept across the ground.

To their credit, neither side allowed that interruption or the flurry of substitutions that followed to throw them out of their stride and chances continued to come and go at either end.

Glory's Makarounas saw another shot fly over on 72 minutes, while the lively Bradbery burst clear on goal but could only drag his shot wide with substitute goalkeeper Devon Spence beaten.

The Jets' number 11, however, wasn't to be denied, slicing through the Glory defence and sliding the ball past Spence with two minutes to go before teeing up Pavicevic for his side's third goal in stoppage time.
There was still time for Makarounas to reduce the deficit seconds later, but it was too little too late for the men in purple.

A Michael Bridges brace has inspired Newcastle to a convincing 3-1 victory over Sydney FC in their National Youth League clash at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Bridges gave the visitors a dream start with a goal in the third minute and doubled the advantage in the 47th with a spectacular strike from the edge of the penalty box.

The Englishman capped a dominant performance by setting up Bernado Ribero's goal in the 75th minute to effectively seal Newcastle's second victory of the season.

Aaron Calver got one back for Sydney in the 80th minute but it did little to prevent a third straight defeat for the Sky Blues.

It was an impressive performance from the Jets, who were reduced to 10 men in the 19th minute when Taylor Regan was red-carded for taking down Alec Urosevski on the edge of the penalty box.

Despite being a man down the visitors created more chances and dominated territory and possession for large chunks of the match to move into the top four for the first time this season.

Bridges' early strike set the tone for the Jets.

Andrew Hoole made a dangerous run through the box and sent an inviting ball across the face of goal.

An unmarked Bridges made no mistake on the far post, tapping the ball home for the easiest of goals after a deflection from Bobby Russell.

That sparked the hosts into action, Dimi Petratos and Urosevski both firing shots at the target but failing to get past Matthew Nash in the Newcastle goal.

Bridges showed his class again in the 12th minute with a jinking run and a powerful strike that sailed just wide of the target.

The loss of Regan threatened to ruin the visitors' afternoon but the hosts were unable to take advantage of the extra man before the break and fell further behind when Bridges secured his double early in the second half.

After receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty box, the former Premier League star turned and unleashed a thunderous right-foot strike that landed in the top right corner of Ryan Norval's goal.

Bridges continued to terrorise the Sydney keeper, forcing another save in the 73rd minute before providing the final pass for Ribero's match winner two minutes later.

Sydney FC 1 (Calver 80,)
Newcastle Jets 3 (Bridges 3, 47, Ribero 75)

The starting XI was pretty much apart from Jesic and Illic the bulk of the players used during the NBN league season and it showed. The understanding and the combinations between the players was excellent. How this Illic guy from Sydney was recruited ahead of our local talent and in particular lads from NSWIS is beyond me. He missed some sittters against what was a very ordinary AIS outfit. Maybe he had an off day but Bradbury is head and shoulders above him as a striker in every aspect and has proven it both during the NBN League and now in the NYL.

Yesterday was the first game I've been to this season. I've heard reports from not only people on this forum but speaking to other people that the Sydney boys are nothing special and bring nothing extra to the squad that our local boys from NSWIS and NNSW clubs could have, if chosen in the squad. I can now confirm in my opinion that from what I saw yesterday that yes the ex-Sydney players on show offer nothing special.
I've also heard that if the Youth squad is not 90% local content (that was agreed on last year) when next seasons NBN League kicks off, that the clubs will veto the Jets right to enter a side in the NBN State League.....and rightly so. You can't have an agreement in place with NNSW and the clubs that you are going to use predominately local talent so that you can have a spot in that competition and then 1 year later turn around and start picking players from outside the region. I don't know who is makng the decisions in regards to recruiting, whether it's Zane or Pascoe or higher, but there needs to be a reassessment of the whole process because it is heading in the wrong direction.

I think there needs to be a bit of balance here. Once the Emerging Jets program gets off the ground and under way in a few years time these kids coming through will be the basis of our Yoof team and our HAL team. Until then we are gonna have to cobble together a side from whatever means possible. As much as the Newy aspect with kids is important it is incredibly naive to think we should stick to a Newy only approach at the expense of any kids elsewhere in the country who may be more than good enough.

Not gonna start casting serious aspersions on the qualities of the non Newy kids in the Yoof set up who are also behind the eight ball compared to the kids who played State League this winter who have had a bit more time to develop an understanding of how to play the Newy way Egg is forcing on them. Remember the new recruits have only had 5 games to get to grips with it.

As for the NSWIS side who won the U18's category of the State League this winter to say they are ready for the NYL is a big call. The Jets Yoof NBN League side are playing First Grade and have stepped up to take on the NYL sides to say a side playing 2 levels lower than them this winter are ready is a bit hard to believe

Not to similar from the gripes that the Jets Yoof have pilfered the best talent from the State League Clubs. Where else are they gonna get them from at this point in time??? In a few years time the Jets Yoof team will have come through the Emerging Jets program from U10's through so any complaints that so and so is a Magic/Olympic/Southy junior will be redundant when they won't have played for those clubs since they were 9 years old.

There are some issues here that we as a club are gonna have to work through in the short term to keep the State League Clubs happy but nothing insurmountable that will be redundant given time anyway

I've always thought that the philosphy should be that if you have 2 similar players in standard and that if one is a local product and the other from outside then you should always pick the local. These new recruits from Sydney are nothing special and you MKFS have stated that yourself.
Just to correct you on the NSWIS side winning the U18's, it was in fact the U19's comp and they won it by a considerable margin. The fact also is that there are young lads (16 year olds) from Sydney's NSWIS program playing for Sydney FC and WSW's youth teams in the NYL but it seems that our Newcastle NSWIS boys aren't good enough in the eyes of the Jet's coaching staff.

Only because the dumb arse coach benched Kale for Ilic in rd 1 and in Rd 2 played him on the Left wing to accommodate him again. Since the dumb arse coach has seen the error of his ways Kales NYL goal tally is 6 in 6 games. Ilic may well turn into a superstar but dropping the heir apparent to Lord Griffo is just insane.

Your right it is U19's will throw my hand up and admit that error. Yes they did win by a mile but the big question is are they ready though for the NYL??? Possibly the powers that be have deemed they ain't ready yet. No shame there and I am sure in time that is something we as region and a club will have to address so 16 year olds are playing NYL and not 19 year olds

TBH, there wouldn't be many in the NSWIS team capable of stepping up to NYL level, like Hoole, Bradberry, Pepper, Regan have done recently. Sure, there's potential there but probably not up to game standard. Next year should be a different story though, as NSWIS players in the Under 23s+ 19s will be able to be used in the First Grade fixtures, so a few players may get some time amongst it.

Also, do you think NYL before HAL games has a future? So week in week out, if Newcastle host Brisbane, NYL fixture before HAL. I know, we do it once or twice a year. Do you think it's a good idea?
I understand they'd have to open things up an extra 90 minutes, pay staff for that extra 90 minutes etc. I think it could be phased in a little bit more. Or at least the NYL and W-League where possible. Once the league becomes more popular, constantly drawing bigger crowds, it may be worthwhile to give them an extra game.

theres the commercial issues with NYL and Womens Games with paying to watch etc... ( in this country I think its a good idea, as the other big code in town does it, with some of the fan base going just for the younger grades cause they know the people in it and then staying after for the main game)

Central Coast Mariners’ establishment of a feeder team in the NSW Premier League illustrates how the Gosford club continue to show the rest of the Hyundai A-League how to plan for the future.

Following the development of the club's impressive new training facilities at Tuggerah, the Mariners recently announced a partnership with Central Coast Football that will see a sharing of resources and a new feeder team playing in the NSW Premier League.

The result of several years of groundwork from former Mariners National Youth league coach Tony Walmsley, the Central Coast Mariners Academy (CCMA) team will feature a mix of local footballers, and available Mariners NYL and A-League players, training and playing out of an extensively refurbished Pluim Park.

The CCMA had previously existed as a junior side but with Central Coast Football returning to senior football, the team was selected to participate in the in the Premier League for the 2013 season.

As well as providing their own players with the chance to maintain their match fitness throughout the year, the Academy will also provide a development pathway for upcoming players who will be trained in line with the A-League club’s philosophies and standards.

Lawrie McKinna, the Mariners’ director of football and now mayor of Gosford, says the formation of the Academy team is merely the formalisation of a long-standing but unofficial partnership, which will have benefits for both the club and the game on the Central Coast.

“We’ve had a good relationship with Central Coast Football from year one,” McKinna told aleague.com.au.

“Over the years we used to give them players back on loan – players like Nigel Boogaard, Matty Simon, players who hadn’t played a lot of football we’d put them down to play with Central Coast Football in the old Super League.

“It’ll be hard to give them [first-team] players at the start of their season because we’ve got the Asian Champions OLeague but we’ve spoken to Arnie and we’ll be looking to send down two or three players who haven’t played a lot of game time.

“I spoke to the youth team players last night, and we’ll be looking for between four-six of these guys to come up and play with the Academy squad. We see this as an ideal partnership and a pathway for players as well.

“The U-16s and U-17s will have a direct pathway and we’ll have involvement with them. The idea is that we get more Central Coast boys coming through as well.

“We name it, help resource it, and give our expertise –so it’s a great combination, which will help [Central Coast Football] be competitive without spending big money to match the Sydney clubs.”

The Academy team will also be more than just a production line of players; Graham Arnold and his coaches will also be passing on their knowledge to Academy staff and will be able to monitor the development of young and fringe players over a period of time.

“Once everything gets put in place, Arnie wants the boys to come down to training to see how he does things, to see his philosophy of the game,” MicKinna said.

“It’s an open door situation where these people can come down to watch training, ask questions, and see what happens and what Arnie’s trying to do. We’re always learning not matter how old you are.

“Say for instance the youth league players, these guys will be up there training while we’re training for the ACL so they’ll be getting a chance to train with the first team. And on the other hand we’ll be getting local boys that are doing well in the Premier League team, they’ll get invited in.”

The Mariners F3 derby rivals Newcastle Jets unveiled a similar project in their “Emerging Jets Program” in September, but McKinna says the already long-standing relationship between the Bluetongue club and Central Coast Football means the Academy team is the ideal combination of hard work and situation, which will have long-lasting benefits for football in the region.

“We’ve had this process going for more than a year now and having the senior team that we can put players in is probably the ideal set-up.

"Let’s say six of our youth players come up they play in the senior competition under the eyes of our coaches; they play NYL team next year and then they might be 19 and we’ve already been watching them for a year-and-a-half and it gives these boys a chance to get picked up for an A-League contract.

“Other teams should do it but we’re lucky we’re in a region we can do it. Who are Sydney going to do it with? If they go with Marconi, they’re going to upset Sydney United, Bonnyrigg... We’ve got the ideal situation that we’re one region, one team.”

Defending A-League premiers, purpose-built training facilities the envy of the competition and a state league feeder team that further strengthens an already impressive youth pathway; it’s a vision of how a football club should be run in Australia.

CopyCats

Do feel though that they have got one up on us though and that playing in the NSW State League comp against the likes of Marconi ,Sydney Olympic, Sydney Croatia etc would be much better placement for our Jets Yoof and Emerging Jets programs than the NNSW's NBN State League

Melbourne Heart shrugged off an experienced Newcastle Jets side 3-0 in their National Youth League clash at John Cain Memorial Reserve on Sunday.

An early strike from Paulo Retre set the tone for the performance before striker Evan Batsis gave the Heart breathing space before half-time.

Substitute Zac Walker rounded out the game with 10 minutes to spare.

Newcastle started the match with a strong line-up – featuring senior players including former Heart full-back Craig Goodwin, flying winger James Virgili and midfielder Jacob Pepper.

The home side went with a youthful side that included yet-to-debut former Gold Coast forward Gol Gol Mebrahtu and ex-Roar back-up keeper Andrew Redmayne.

Heart pressed early and hit the front in the sixth minute after Retre floated a wonderful volley into the top corner from outside the area.

The lead was doubled halfway through the first period when Jeremy Walker beat the Jets' offside trap and found himself one-on-one with keeper Jack Duncan. The right winger squared the ball to Batsis, who had the easiest of tap-ins.

Walker was a constant threat down the right side and his good work should have resulted in Heart's third on 24 minutes. After being released down the right, the winger's pull back was blasted over the bar by Ersin Kaya.

Virgili was the Jets bright spark in the first half, taking on defenders and getting into good positions – with his final ball lacking the required quality.

In the opening seconds of the second half, Kaya had a golden chance to put the game out of reach but skewed a volley well wide from the penalty spot.

The miss could have proved costly as substitute Kale Bradbery advanced on the Heart defence with two teammates in support. Instead of passing, the forward's deflected strike fell to Virgili and Redmayne made a terrific save to deny a rising, goal-bound effort.

Substitute Zac Walker finally snuffed out the Jets' chances on 80 minutes when he cleverly nicked the ball past a defender in the penalty area and finished past Newcastle substitute keeper Nicholas Hartnett.

With their third win of the season, Heart joined second-placed Newcastle on 10 points as they finally climbed into the top half of the table.

Just a casual observation on my part but it seems to me whenever the Youth side wins, the lineup is the nucleus of the side that done so well in the NBN League this season i.e Hoole, Bradbury, Campbell, Cowburn, Finlayson, Remington and Galloway(to a lesser extent as he didn't play that many games).

The Newcastle Jets have moved into the top four on the National Youth League ladder with a sparkling 4-1 win over Sydney FC in sweltering conditions at Wanderers Oval on Sunday morning.

The Jets line-up featured A-League regulars Bernardo Ribeiro and Tiago Calvano as well as the return from injury of goalkeeper Ben Kennedy and they controlled the match from the outset.

A first-half brace from Socceroo Adam Taggart and a goal to Kyle Bradbery gave the home side a comfortable 3-0 lead at half-time.

Bradbery doubled his tally midway through the second half before Sydney striker Alec Urosevski slotted a late goal to give the scoreline some respectability.

The win moves the Jets into fourth place on 17 points while Sydney remain in eighth place on 10 points with the rest of the round to play.

The match got underway in stifling heat that forced a number of drinks breaks throughout the match and it was the home side who controlled play early without threatening the Sydney goal.

It was in fact the visitors who fashioned the first chance in the 15th minute when right fullback Trent McClenahan made a strong run down the right wing before getting in-between Jets defenders Mason Campbell and Taylor Regan.

The Sydney FC defender then took play inside the box before firing a curling left-foot shot that beat Newcastle goal-keeper Ben Kennedy only to rattle off the far post.

The home side wrestled back control in the best way possible with a goal from Bradbery. Andrew Hoole got into space down the right win before squaring to Taggart in front of goal. His scuffed shot was deflected into the path of Bradbery who buried it into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 after 18 minutes.

The Jets doubled their advantage when the industrious Bernardo played an incisive through ball for Taggart, who took one touch into the box before calmly slotting past Sydney goal-keeper Anthony Bouzanis.

Sydney had their chances in front of goal but couldn't convert.

Christopher Naumoff showed good control to weave his way into the box but he fired his well-struck shot just wide of the far post before Alec Urosevski chased a through-ball to go one-on-one with Kennedy but the Jets custodian did well to smother the shot.

Moments later the Jets had their third when Hoole once again broke down the right wing before cutting the ball back to Taggart, who slammed a right-foot shot into the far corner for the Jets to hold a 3-0 lead at the break.

Newcastle maintained their dominance after the break, constructing a series of impressive raids engineered by Bernardo, Hoole and Bradbery causing the Sydney defence plenty of headaches with their pace and runs into the box.

Bouzanis denied another Jets goal when he made a fantastic diving save to push away a strike from Mitchell Oxborrow late in the match.

The Jets eventually profited from their pressure when Bradery took advantage of a well-engineered move through the midfield to slot home six minutes from full-time.

To their credit Sydney continued to attack and eventually got on the scoreboard when Urosevski beat the offside trap and slotted past substitute goal-keeper Jack Duncan to make the final score 4-1 to the Jets.

although i did not watch said game, my theory on kale may be proven true. apart from being a right-place-right-time, and good finisher kind of player, he's useless. doesn't run, doesn't add much to general build-up play, etc. apart from playing directly up front, if he's put anywhere else he goes missing & doesn't contribute at all. this is why he'll never make it in the hal - they'll put him in one of the wide positions, rather than striker, and he'll struggle too much. sounds like that is what happened yesterday, with him being dragged from wide left.

or am i talking bs as usual?

What I've seen of Kale is that he is always dangerous in and around the box and keeps the opposition on their toes because of his sheer acceleration over 5-10 metres. You can't coach that, you either have it or you don't. Put it this way, if Heskey is out injured now with this quad strain, Taggart will probably come in, I would love to see Kale come onto the bench and at least get a run for 10-15min at the end of the game when it usually opens up.
Redmexican commenting about Campbell, Cowburn and Hoole, not surprised at all as these 3 were arguably our most consistent youth players during the NBN state league season. Hoole has been training with the seniors and Cowburn is still only 17 but I hope Campbell is added to the senior squad for next season....quality young defender and leader to go with it.

Peppz will never make a right back from what I seen yesterday!!!

Even though Kale had had one of his quieter games it was quiet pertinent to note we were deadset AIDS as soon as he went off. Hooley also dropped back to RB from attacking wide right role and poor Marko was left up front with 2 other nobodies and we couldn't keep the ****ing ball. Victree looked like scoring in the last 30 mins quite regularly but kept farking it up for themselves. Matter of fact it is a classic example of why Jesic WILL be sentenced to 3 years hard time at Sydney FC

Got to agree with the comments on Ribero some nice touches here and there but he spent most of the game walking and if he did start moving faster it can only be classed as a trot. Can't see GVE being too impressed with that.

PV4 as fro your comments on Kale- I will just pad up and let them go through to the keeper :whistling:
Though you do make a good point about the kid getting a chance in the wide positions and not being a success being a fear. Problem is he is a striker so he should be played as a striker its alright letting him go and learn a different role from time to time but he is a striker first and foremost

Pretty accurate really...for him to have a chance of making it in HAL centrally he'd have to be playing next to a Heskey type 2nd striker who shows for the ball, holds it up,drops it off and he making the 2nd run etc. Looked well out of place on the left wing...time will tell I suppose. Still 30 degree's at kick off and while sliding with the play he was just playing his position and did well a youth level but needs alot more to stand out.

Walking all game - pfft your having a laugh and need to learn the positions of the game before throwing stones.

seldom : do you think after seeing campbell yesterday he should atleast get a bench spot for the backline if gary is chopping and changing ?

Mate I've only seen him a few times this year and he's been solid without being outstanding. He and Cowburn are good prospects but imo the last thing you want to be doing is rushing young CBs into the 1sts. I know Chapman is only 17 but he's already developed physically and oozes with confidence plus reads the game like a seasoned defender.Only my opinion of course others on here probs think he is ready and good enough. I take it that your a fan of his abilities ?

Just for the record Chapman turned 18 on 31/10/12
I saw most of the Youth games in the NBN league last year and Campbell was probably the most consistent performer. His biggest attribute is that he reads the game so well and always seems to be in the right postion, as a result he hardly ever makes any rash decisions or tackles....which are the sign of a good defender.
I'm not 100% sure but I think he will be too old for Youth league next season. Sydney played a 16 year old (Aaron Calver) at CB against Perth on the weekend and he done well, something would be definitely wrong with this club if Mason Campbell does not move into the senior ranks in the next 12 months.

Biggest issue will be the Yoof contacts in the HAL squad. Who's currently on them Duncan Galloway Pepper Oxborrow Chapman etc??? How many of these can be moved off the Yoof deals.??

Next issue will be who is deemed worthy to replace these blokes Kale Hooley Mason Campbell Remo etc

We ain't gonna be able to give everyone a gig and I would be thinking at this point in time Hooley and Kale would be nos 1 and 2 in the pecking order (Who's No 1 in Order up for debate (You know my thinking though!!!)

Tim the conditions were the same for everyone out there so no excuses for Bernardo not to be running when his teammates are doing so.

Your right in the No 10 doesn't do as much running as some positions but they still have to run.

Ribero in my opinion is the most talented skill wise in our squad for the No10 role. The real question is why isn't he playing?? My answer for that can be found in his level of running and work rate. Is it any coincidence that in Brisbane when Mitchell was sent off at HT Ribero was replaced as GVE looked to plug up Mitchell's absence in the back line?? To me that said he was the weakest work rate wise in the side and GVE valued Browns work rate over Bernardos skills

Browny RyGriff both outrun Bernardo by a long way. So it is really up to Bernardo to turn on the skill a bit more or put in a bit more with the running. I feel he has these two more than covered in the skills department

At present he shows some good stuff but not in enough quantity to bang down the selection door. Throw in his current level of skill with an increased work rate and what would be holding him from a starting spot?? It ain't James Browns form

I don't think since the NYL began that we have had as many quality locals in the Youth side who have the potential to step up in the next year or two into the senior side. The club is big on talking up the "connecting and engaging with the local community", I just hope that it preaches what it says and starts promoting these talented local lads rather then looking elsewhere in the future.
Since GVE came back there seems to be a policy of signing 17-20 year olds who are in the Young Socceroos set-up, all well and good but like we've seen with Ben Kantarovski over the years, they are away for huge chunks of the season and the constant travelling/playing etc. can take their toll.

Probabaly the most pleasing aspect of where we are going as a club can be seen by the fact Chilli, Galloway, Chapman, Peppz are all in the first team squad. These blokes spent the winter playing in the NBN State League side. Oxborrow has had a chance and Hooley and Kale ain't far away from stepping up.

Remember not that far ago there was a huge gap between our First XI and the Yoof team. Currently the Egg is getting this bit right and bridging the distance between our Yoof team and First Team.

One other aspect to consider with the pick locals philosophy is that the locals have to be good enough to step up otherwise picking them for the sake of it is a retrograde step. Reality is that in the last 20-30 years we have produced SFA as a region. Hopefully the emerging Jets will rectify this issue

yeah on each occasion ive seen him play, has not made any large errors as such, i mean theres no need to rush him in, it would just be good to see the kid get 15-20min in a game before the seasons end just to see how he shapes up.

Didn't go as had to front for work but apparently we blew a 3-1 lead to go down 6-4. Marko Jesic scored a hatty.

Hardly surprising that our Yoof teams defence would capitulate when the first team hacks are polaying in coz the Yoof teams defence have to man up in the HAL

Perth Glory have staged a remarkable second-half comeback to turn around a two-goal deficit and register an astounding 6-4 win over the Newcastle Jets in their Round 12 National Youth League match at Wanderers Oval on Sunday morning.

The first half almost exclusively belonged to the Jets, who overcame an early penalty to Perth's Chris Harold to run riot through the Glory defence and create a host of chances, with striker Marko Jesic collecting a brace and Brazilian Bernardo Ribeiro converting an eye-catching solo effort for a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Both sides made changes in the second half and it was the visitors who prospered when they clawed a goal back in the 50th minute via defender Jack Glisby.

That seemed to swing the momentum in Perth's favour and they scored four impressive goals in a 19-minutes spree to take the score to 6-3, before Jesic completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot late in the contest.

The win lifts the Glory to within two points of the top four while the Jets remain in third place.

The Jets applied all the early pressure and fashioned the first chance on goal in the seventh minute when Ribeiro sent a shot from the edge of the area over the crossbar.

The game turned in the 10th minute when Glory striker Harry O'Brien was felled as Jets goalkeeper Ben Kennedy came out to try to smother a lobbed through ball.

Referee Stephan Luca had no hesitation awarding the penalty and Chris Harold stepped up to convert from the spot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Jets hit back almost immediately via a solo goal to Riberio. The crafty import took the ball just outside the area, feinted one way and then went back the other before unleashing a shot into the top far corner of the net to make it 1-1 after 13 minutes.

From that point on the Jets started to control proceedings and made plenty of inroads through the middle of the park as they duly took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Jesic fired in a low left-footed shot from just outside the area.

Jesic got his second goal in almost identical fashion just a few moments later when he took the ball on the edge of the box, turned and fired a low left-foot shot inside the far post to make it 3-1 after 35 minutes.

Newcastle seemed to run through the Glory defence at will and Adam Taggart could have added to his side's total when he was played in by a great through-ball from Mitch Cooper, but the striker's shot smacked off the goal-post.

Taggart had two more chances to score but could only fire his shot into the arms of Glory goalkeeper Jordan Franken and the home side had to be content with a 3-1 lead at half-time.

The Jets made a couple of changes at half-time, resting Kennedy, defender Josh Mitchell and midfielder Cooper, while the Glory brought on Andrew Higgins for Lawrence Shuruma.

The Glory dragged themselves back into the contest just five minutes after half-time when defender Glisby fired in a glorious left-footed free kick after Adrian Zahra had been pulled down by Nicholas Cowburn.

The Glory were back on level terms just after the hour mark when Zahra made a break down the right wing before cutting the ball back inside for substitute Borbor Sam, who curled a lovely shot inside the far post.

The home side looked to regain their lead when substitute Kale Bradbery played in Bobby Russell but the nippy winger saw his shot pushed over the bar by Franken.

Remarkably it was the Glory who took the lead when they engineered some sparkling play down the left flank, where fullback Riley Woodcock was afforded too much time on the edge of the area and he was able to float a curling effort over Hartnett and into the far corner.

The Jets tried hard to get back into the contest with Bradbery and Russell combing to set up chances for Ribeiro, but he sent two attempts over the target.

The Glory sealed the match when Moses Kalau's shot came off the crossbar and Zahra was first to the rebound, heading home to make it 5-3 with 10 minutes to play.

Perth capped an amazing comeback when they added a sixth goal seven minutes from full-time when substitute striker Moses Kalau poked home a goal-mouth scramble.

The Jets kept fighting and claimed a consolation when Ribeiro was pulled down by Franken and earned a penalty. Jesic converted from the spot for his hat-trick to make the final score 6-4 to the Glory.

Brisbane Roar overcame Newcastle Jets 3-2 in tough conditions in the National Youth League encounter at Goodwin Park on Saturday.

Despite an early kick-off, conditions were extremely hot and humid, meaning both sides struggled to keep up energy levels in the second half.

Brisbane led 2-1 at half-time through goals from Patrick Theodore and Alex Schiavo. Bobby Russell was the scorer for the Jets before Joe Franze sealed the win for the Roar in the second half. Marko Jesic scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.

Nick Fitzgerald was causing headaches for the Jets defence early on. On six minutes he dribbled evasively down the left before lobbing a pass to Alex Schiavo, whose shot didn't match the build-up and failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

The Jets had their first attempt on goal from a free kick. Bernado Ribeiro drove in a low shot from well outside the box, which Roar 'keeper Fraser Chalmers allowed to slip through his grasp. He was able to recover and scoop up the ball before it dribbled over the line.

Theodore opened the scoring for Brisbane after 19 minutes with a brilliant solo effort. He did well to control a lobbed pass, then sliced through the Jets defence before rounding the keeper. He was already celebrating before tapping the ball into the open net.

Newcastle found an equalising goal on 35 minutes as Kale Bradbery cut the ball back for Russell to place the ball past Chalmers .

The Jets were behind again a short time later, as Schiavo was on hand to smash home a loose ball in the box following a corner, to give the Roar a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Chances were few and far between in the second period, as the sapping conditions took their toll.

A floated cross from Brisbane substitute Franze was tipped just over the head of Fitzgerald who was lurking with intent at the back post.

The Roar took a decisive lead on 77 minutes through Franze. Fitzgerald scampered into the Newcastle box down the left before lofting a cross over Anthony Proia's head. Fortunately for Brisbane, Franze arrived late at the back post to fire past Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan.

Jets substitute Jesic pulled a goal back a minute before the end of regular time, running onto a lobbed pass to score past the keeper.

A hat-trick from second-half substitute Brandon Lundy and a double from over-age player Marko Jesic eased Newcastle Jets to a 5-2 win over the AIS in Canberra.

Replacement Lundy was in clinical form in his 45 minutes on the park, showcasing his finishing prowess to claim the match ball as the Jets deservedly took home the three points.

Newcastle almost took the lead after only 15 seconds.

AIS goalkeeper Lucas Spinella was put under pressure from a poor back pass and his weak clearance was returned into the area by Jesic for Kale Bradbury, who seemed certain to score, only to be denied by a sprawling save from the keeper.

The reprieve was short-lived , however, as the Jets struck in their next attack.

A beautifully flighted ball over the top exposed the flat AIS back four allowing Jesic time to bring the ball down and pick his spot, finishing low past Spinella and in off the far post, for the opening goal after just 76 seconds.

And it could have been two in the fifth minute as the Jets again picked a hole through the AIS defence allowing Bobby Russell in on goal but his effort, which beat Spinella, cannoned back off the post and away to safety.

Mitch Cooper was the next to waste a glorious chance for the visitors, blazing over from 12 metres from Bradbury's square pass.

After weathering the initial onslaught, which included an effort from Mitchell Oxborrow which fizzed just over the bar in the 22nd minute, the AIS began to settle and Steve Kuzmanovski stung the palms of Jets keeper Brad McKenzie with an angled drive.

The tricky winger went even closer moments later, getting on the end of a superb Alexander Gersbach cross with a downward header that brushed the side-netting.

The Jets failed to heed the warning and, in the 37th minute, the AIS levelled.

Kuzmanovski was the architect, confusing a brace of defenders with a series of step-overs, before squaring to Marc Marino whose excellent first touch created the space for him to register his second goal in two matches.

Almost immediately Newcastle should have restored their lead as Russell hit the post after latching onto a poor clearance from Spinella while Bradbury hammered a shot against the bar as the AIS goal led a charmed life as half-time loomed.

Newcastle introduced Lundy from the bench at half-time and, incredibly, the substitute put his team back in front 24 seconds after the re-start with his first touch.

Lundy was left free on the left flank to collect a through ball and hit a shot that beat Spinella on the near post from an acute angle.

In a free-flowing match it was the AIS turn to rue their luck in the 57th minute as Anthony Kalik saw his rasping effort from 25m crash off the post with McKenzie a virtual spectator as the home team pressed for an equaliser.

But the Jets went straight down the other end to increase their advantage. Lundy was again the man of the moment receiving a pass and cutting inside his marker to curl an exquisite shot into the far top corner for a superb goal.

If that finish was good the fourth, netted by Jesic with 17 minutes remaining, was even better.

The prolific forward got in behind the covering AIS defenders and lifted a sublime first-time lob over the head of substitute AIS goalkeeper Andre Jannese for his second of the match.

A fifth seemed inevitable though and it duly arrived with five minutes left.

The AIS turned over possession in midfield and a through ball released Lundy with the substitute calmly picking his spot to lash in his third, completing a well-taken hat-trick and sealing a convincing Jets performance.

The home team had the final word in stoppage time as Josh Barresi rounded McKenzie and slotted home, via the post and a rebound off his knee.

The 3 new faces in that side are from last year's NNSWIS team. About time some of them got a go and it looks like they've done well. Just shows we DO have local talent and that we don't need to keep going to Sydney to fill places in our NYL side.

I reckon there are another couple who can't be far off either.

I think you mean the U/19 comp, but yeah, that's them.

BTW, at the end of year FFA State Institute Challenge (December 2012), NNSWIS got 4 players into the Tournament's 'All-Star' squad, which as far as I'm concerned wasn't made known to the general football public. Hopefully we see these 3 play more NYL games to be joined by more NNSWIS boys who are capable of stepping up to this level.

Yes the NNSWIS side played in Jets colours in the U/19's NBN last season.
Pretty much the same squad went to Canberra for the Institute Challenge back in December and were one of the best sides, finishing 2nd on the "Technical" Points table and 5th out of 9 teams on the actual points table. Great to see that some of them are finally getting opportunities to play at NYL level and making the most of them.

Should have a double figure score. Heart yoof were woeful. We wasted a hatful of chances and their keeper pulled off at least 5-6 top drawer Solo Save of the week candidates.

Ribero went off after 25 mins with what looked like a knee injury. Busted through the tackle and the ref waved play on despite the foul. Bernardo attempted to run but leg caused him to pull up and collapse to the floor ADP style. Soldiered on for 5 mins but was no good.

Taggz despite grabbing the hatty wasn't that great. Chances were put away well but the amount of traffic into the Heart goal mouth was disgraceful. We were 3-0 up at HT Chilli wasted 2 Kale wasted 1. 2 balls were goalbound and deflected wide and the keeper pulled off 3-4 stunners. Could have been 10 -0 at HT no shit.

BK came off at HT and other than dealing with back passes don't think he done a thing. Seriously the Emerging Jets U 10 keepers would have kept a clean sheet in the first half.

Taggz made it 4 just after HT. Boys at the back done their best then to impress the watching Egg. Gave a goal away getting caught in possession in the back half of the field ala ADP goal yesterday. About 8 mins later and Heart were back to 4-2 with what was an offside goal. Bloke sprung the offside trap but was deadset offside by 4 yards and advanced on Duncan and slotted in. Heart had been smashed and had 2 goals from 2 shots. Heart player then got a second yellow with about 4 mins to go for kicking the ball away after getting pulled up for offside.

Second half we still smashed them but not with the superiority of the first half.

Had the same thought. Youth team playing on a near perfect pitch and the senior team playing on something reminiscent of no man's land on the Western Front...

For the 25 odd minutes Bernardo was on I thought he was average. Sure he got a goal and beat a few players but with the ball at his feet he more often than not made the wrong choice. Few nice inter-plays with Rem Job though, who I thought was awesome. Can't wait to see him make his way to the first team eventually!

Anyone else see Jesic sitting in the stands looking dejected? Money being well spent there...

Anyone else see Jesic sitting in the stands looking dejected? Money being well spent there...

your right on Remo he was good...Jesic was suspended yeah ?

Don't even speculate on that type of shit. Another 7 weeks to get through and we are rid of Jesic for ever. One of GVE's strong points in an array of ever developing weaknesses is he has snubbed Marko for so long. Long may it continue. Sacking GVE may lead to someone coming in who likes Jesic. **** that for a laugh

A Marko Jesic hat-trick has helped the Newcastle Jets overcome the Western Sydney Wanderers 4-0 in their rain-soaked National Youth League clash on Sunday.

Jesic had his first after just three minutes when a through ball from Mitch Cooper saw him spring the offside trap and finish crisply, firing his shot under a diving Jerrad Tyson in the Wanderers goal.

An error from Tyson gifted Jesic his second after 13 minutes when a rather innocuous long ball skipped past the goalkeeper, who had come out of the area to deal with it.

Jesic rushed past a retreating Tyson for an easy tap-in.

For much of the remainder of the first half, the better of the chances fell to the Jets, who at times were able to get in behind the Wanderers' defence at will.

But despite having the better of the chances, the Jets were unable to add to their tally in the first half.

While Western Sydney were able to carve out several chances in the latter stages of the half, strong games from the Newcastle central defensive pairing of Dominik Ritter and Taylor Regan restricted the home side to shots from range which gave Jack Duncan in the Jets goal few problems.

The half-time break saw heavy rain descend on Cook Park and it continued throughout the second half.

Despite the rain, the second half started in the same way as the first, with a Newcastle goal.

Kale Bradbery used some delicate footwork to get past his defender before rifling his shot past Tyson for Newcastle's third.

Western Sydney then had some good chances to get on the scoreboard, but they were snuffed out by some fine positional goalkeeping from Duncan.

On the hour mark, Duncan was on hand to parry a dangerous low cross safely away, and when the Wanderers were able to mount pressure, he was on hand to deal with the aerial crosses.

With 10 minutes to go, Jesic had his third and the Jets' fourth.

With the Wanderers pushing forward searching for a goal, the Jets broke on the counter.

Jesic was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper and - with the softest of touches - lifted the ball over the advancing Tyson to complete his hat-trick.

Yeah wouldn't hurt to give him a run off the bench with the way we have been scoring goals lately.
Makes you think Marko must have a big X next to his name with "never to play A-League for the Jets again".

Yeah what has happened this year at youth league games? I thought with the change to broadmeadow we would get more of the squadron out there following the boys. Has everyone been busy etc? Or has the youth league got boring without the finals series format?

And yes that Thursday night game at seasons start was the best :) deff would love to see some more games under lights.

he Newcastle Jets romped to a thumping 6-1 National Youth League win over Adelaide United at Wanderers Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds took the lead early through Thomas Briscoe and threatened to go on with it before the Jets wrestled back control of the match with a goal to Brandon Lundy just after the half-hour mark to see the sides go to the half-time break locked a 1-1.

The Jets dominated the second stanza with a Kale Bradbery hat-trick and goals to Andrew Hoole and substitute Radovan Pavicevic completing an emphatic come-from-behind win.

The victory sees the Newcastle consolidate third place on the NYL ladder but with just one match of the season remaining they cannot catch league leaders Melbourne Victory nor second placed Central Coast Mariners.

The match started in perfect conditions and it was Adelaide who held the upper hand from the opening whistle, getting on the scoreboard after just eight minutes courtesy of striker Thomas Briscoe.

A low Liam Wooding corner was met by Briscoe on the edge of the area and he drilled a thundering volley into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The visitors were full of running and looked dangerous, with right winger Awer Mabil giving the Jets defence all sorts of problems with his pace and skill.

The home side gradually worked their way back into the contest and started to engineer some productive work through the midfield with Bobby Russell and Jacob Pepper going close with chances from the edge of the area.

The Jets duly equalised in the 37th minute when Lundy poked home from just 10 metres out after the Reds defence failed to clear a Newcastle corner.

Brazilian Bernardo Ribiero almost gave the Jets the lead a few minutes later when he was allowed to run across the 18-yard line before curling a shot towards the top corner which was swatted away by Adelaide goalkeeper John Hall as the sides went to the break even.

The Jets took control of the match in the second half when Bradbery netted his first of the afternoon. Pepper took the ball down the right flank then darted into the box before squaring a ball for Bradbery who turned and slotted from 12 yards out.

Newcastle extended their lead nine minutes later with another attack down the right wing. This time Andrew Hoole got the better of the Reds defence and ghosted into the box where he shaped to cross for Bradbery but instead slid a neat shot inside the near post to make it 3-1 after 65 minutes.

The Reds didn't give up and almost clawed a goal back in the 70th minute when Mabil got away down the left wing before crossing to substitute striker Nathan Konstandopoulos on the edge of the area, but Jack Duncan saved well.

Newcastle extinguished any hope of a comeback when Bradbery snared his second goal after punctuating his weaving run into the box with a low angled shot inside the near post to make it 4-1 after 73 minutes.

The Jets grabbed their fifth when Mitchell Oxborrow floated a ball over the top for Pavicevic who showed great poise to slot his shot past an advancing Hall and into the far corner of the net.

Newcastle completed the rout when Bradbery bagged his hat-trick in injury time after taking a pass from Ribiero before calmly slotting home.

A James Meyer hat-trick has seen the Brisbane Roar finish the National Youth League season with a strong 3-1 win over the Newcastle Jets in atrocious conditions at Wanderers Oval on Saturday evening.

Meyer bagged goals in the first, 32nd and 67th minute and was a stand-out as the Roar outplayed the Jets in a match played in storm-like conditions with heavy, driving rain and blustery winds.

The win sees the Brisbane side secure a fourth place finish in the National Youth League just a point behind the Jets who claimed their best ever finish in third.

The Roar got the ideal start when James Meyer sprung the offside trap and streaked through the centre to go one-on-one with Jets goalkeeper Ben Kennedy, who slipped at the vital moment allowing Meyer to simply stroke home to make it 1-0 to Brisbane after just one minute of play. >>>> I MUST HAVE BEEN SEEING THINGS AS I THOUGHT IT CAME FROM A SCOTT NEVILLE BACK ASS THAT WAS UNDER HIT TO BK

The home side worked their way back into the contest with James Virgili firing wide after a wonderful through ball from Mitch Cooper in the ninth minute before Craig Goodwin saw his shot saved by Roar custodian Matthew Acton following some clever lead-up work from James Brown.

The Jets duly equalised in the 23rd minute when Brown put Kale Bradbery away down the left wing. The Newcastle striker played a quick one-two with Brown before taking the ball across the face of goal and firing a low shot into the far corner.

The Roar should have gone ahead on the half-hour mark when Kennedy came out of his area to shut down a break from Patrick Theodore.

But the Brisbane forward was able to step around the Jets keeper and square the ball for Meyer who tried to guide it home from the edge of the area only to see his shot blocked by Newcastle defender Luke Remington.

Just moments later the Roar regained the lead when Meyer fired a looping long-range effort from 35 metres out that curled in the swirling wind and dipped over Kennedy and into the top corner of the net to make it 2-1 to Brisbane after 32 minutes.

The visitors had the bit between their teeth and pushed forward with Matthew Thurtell firing a shot narrowly wide of the target right on the stroke of half-time as the sides went to the sheds with the Roar holding a 2-1 lead.

The driving rain worsened to a torrential downpour with strong gusty winds but it was the Roar who looked most likely to score in the second half.

Meyer forced a fine diving save from Kennedy with low skimming shot in the 63rd minute before George Lambadaridis fired wide from just outside the area a few minutes later.

A Meyer solo effort saw the Roar go to 3-1 ahead in the 67th minute when he raced into space down the right flank before cutting back inside and slotting the ball inside to far post to complete his hat-trick.

Brisbane went close to adding to their lead in the 73rd minute when defender Ross Archibald leapt high to meet a Kenneth Dougall free-kick from out wide only to head his shot over the crossbar.

The Jets tried hard to mount a late comeback with substitute Radovan Pavicevic and Bradbery toiling hard up front and Virgili making inroads down the right wing but the Brisbane defence looked assured as they held firm to finish their season with an impressive win in the wet.
