Predictions for the line ups as we get closer?
I'm predicting at this stage, based off nothing but how we left the end of last season:
-------------Weier---------------
Aquilina--Cancar--Natta---Mauragis
------Grozos-----O'Neill---------
Taylor---Piscopo-----Ingham
---------Buhagiar----------

Winner of the Jets and Victory have been drawn at home against Brisbane Roar.
Of interest, in the 12 matches we have played since 2014, we have been drawn against A-League opposition 10 times. To be fair, two of those are qualifiers so we had to face A-League opposition.
We've never played the Roar and in the Round of 32 (or later) we have lost to A-League opposition 7 from 8 matches.
Tough times.

Yeah we do seem to get the toughest draw in the comp.
If we got a couple of NPL teams we probably would be able to get deep into the comp but we never get that fortune

The two years we did get a draw against a Member Federation club we got to the Round of 16 and Quarter Final (after defeating an A-League club in Rd of 32).

Club is a circus. The other club owners could not give a rats ass clearly demonstrated by the quality of recruitment for this upcoming season. When you look at the quality and value of the departed players and those that have come in for them it is pretty obvious. Only last week talk of a proven forward n defender taking up remaining spots but by the end of the week just a defender.
If i was a betting man i would be putting my money on this scenario having been sorted behind the scenes.
Short of a miracle and no investment/owner is found for the Jets then it is curtains at seasons end for the Jets. Any new license sold to another region ie ACT, Wollongong Wolves etc and the club owners who have been propping us up will receive there out of pocket first and foremost from that new club license fee sale. This would explain the total lack of forthcoming dollars to assemble anything more than something resembling a " replacements " squad this season.
There could not be any other possible explanation given how this seasons squad is shaping up. I asked the question a couple of weeks ago about minimum salary cap spend, In no universe is this years squad valued at two thirds of last seasons. Quite possibly the min spend on a squad is having a blind eye turned just to see out this season.

1-0, Buhagiar with a "typical" Jets goal.

Crazy that no matter who the coach is, and no matter who the players are on the pitch, we still find ways to throw it away late. Kinda thing that needs to be studied, it’s borderline ingrained in our culture at this point

Depressing that we made such a meal of that cause it’ll overshadow that for the first 90 minutes we were a consistently better team and even had a clearly onside goal disallowed.
our backline looked solid, though I could go with a more experienced hand back there. Taylor, Piscopo and Archie all looked good, again with a more experienced goal scorer up top they could all work really well together.
Buhagair shouldn’t touch the pitch ever again though. That bloke needs to go.

Jets were extremely dominant first half, That needed to be reflected greater on the Scoreline. But that has been a huge problem for them during Papas time.
By not killing the game off early allowed the victory back into the game.

I reckon if this game was another week away and Victory managed to get even half their first team back in time to play we would have been in big trouble.
We looked like a dominant regular NPL side versus an A League club's youth side. And even then we couldn't handle the game once a couple of first team players made it onto the pitch in the second half.
Also, I know it's only early on but Stanton just did exactly what the players were taught under Pappas, absolutely no difference to how we played last year. If that's the case and we are going to play with a bunch of fringe players and youth, plus a rookie manager, we might be in for a very draining season as fans.

Yeah, that game against Brisbane is gonna be a large indicator of how we are gonna fair this season.
I am hoping that we are only playing this similar style until some of our players are fitter and we sign up some remaining players that fill in necessary gaps.

Our culture is drama and chaos and instability
Exactly why do we really expect anything else from these ****s ??
FFS our main off season thing of note is replacing our coach and giving Hoffman a contract extension
Let's be realistic we ain't even trying to be best st anything other than drama and disaster
Until we embrace stability and actually set standards then we deserve nothing

Meh, another 120 mins in the legs and we looked a heap better with the ball at our feet than Roar did. We will probably be fighting to avoid a spoon again, but at least watching a team of kids working their butts off will be way more enjoyable than the usual pile of A League rejects.
Brisbane looked terrible tho, we carved them up for periods with 11 on the pitch and once they got the extra man they looked incredibly impotent. I had full faith that they wouldn't be able to score against us based on their ability to attack, but at the same time I had absolutely no faith we wouldn't gift them a goal at any point.
Plus, always fun to know we still cannot find a GK who doesn't have butter fingers after all these years. We must have kept the same person who signed BK and they just hide away in some basement waiting to be asked each off season which GK will create the most chaos next.
