So, does the winner of this now qualify for the prestigious NST?
Is there some additional criteria?

Pretty sure they are just in as simple as that..they join 8 storied clubs who have permanent positions now, even if they don't win their NPL competition

Thanks, that was my interpretation also.
One of the articles seemed to list the teams as 8 foundational clubs and 8 invitational. Had a little bit of doubt that it could vary each year.
Does the funding for this come from FA now that they have endorsed it? Eg flights and accomm.
Going to be a long season for one club.
Also curious if NPL clubs here had much of a say on anything.

6 extra games at a minimum, extremely long season for one club. NPL players playing just as many if not more then A League players doesn't make much sense to me.

Since it is only the Premiers that go, surely the large prize money they get from Northern from winning the league can be used towards it.

The $10K?
Worst case you draw Perth NPL winners in your group and have $500 pp flight for 20 players/essentials. There?s your $10K.
Best case you snag 2x Sydney teams and Melbourne (200pp flights = 4k, plus accomm)
Travel was always going to be the issue with a NST. It?s hard to justify the $$$ outlay for the benefit.
Maybe they just haven?t released enough info yet in terms of prize money and any support.
Just seems an added expenditure for clubs who may not have necessarily wanted this. (From memory Valentine, Olympic and Edgy were the only ones that ever expressed interest at varying stages).
Just curious how it is all going to work.
Taffy

The $10K?
Is that all it is? I thought with clubs spending close to a quarter of a million dollars on players the prize money would be much higher.

I wasn’t sure, but I was going off this article.
From 2024 in the NPL NNSW premiers will receive $10,000 while the grand final winners will receive $4,000.
https://www.northernnswfootball.com.au/news/equal-prize-money-announced-prorel-returns-2024-npl-nnsw-competitions-launched#:~:text=From%202024%20in%20the%20NPL,fina l%20winners%20will%20receive%20%244%2C000.
So, could be $14K I guess.
Unclear if it’ll be the ‘minor’ or ‘major’ premiers.

Unclear if it’ll be the ‘minor’ or ‘major’ premiers.
The non-foundation clubs playing in the NST will be the Premiers. I.e. The team that finishes top of the table, not the grand final winner.

Went and watched Olympic Vs Sydney Olympic today...nice 4-2 win to the local boys (the 2 included a penalty for handball)
Obviously played in a friendly spirit, and I don't know how many reserve grade players got a run today in either team...
I have to say though, I felt like the real winner with those Souvlaki's from the canteen 😍

APIA v Belswans was 4-2. Belswans defended well and attacked with pace when they had the opportunity. Keeper had a stormer of a game to keep scoreline respectable.
Belswans first goal was off an error on the edge of the box for a open goal tap in, 2nd goal was a great finish on edge of the box after a set piece.

I?ve been to two of Adamstowns games , one was a 2-1 loss to Maitland in which I thought was a solid performance and the other was a 5-1 win against south coast side Bulli FC , not too sure how that compares to any sort of quality however Bulli had some tidy players but adamstown were very good and deserved to win by more.

I watched the 2nd half of Maitland v Adamstown on Nnsw you tube ( pretty poor but lights at Adamstown not great) and tge game matched the lighting -terrible I never saw a pass string of more than 6 passes in 50
Minutes it was rubbish!! And both teams will struggle if that is best they can offer -Rafferty for Maitland looks a good player where did he come from? A long season for both teams based on that !

Do to early comp starting we can reliably suggest that playing games between 11am and 4pm in late summer the temp will often reach unplayable conditons thru March.
As a solution....
Is it possible to play 13s 14s in morning and 15s 16s late arvo early evening Sat or Sun? obviously have to be played around senior fixtures. If clubs are using volunteers from teams to operate then doable.
Could use fri nights like in pre season comp as well through to March which is before community teams & o35s kickoff.
I have approached fixtures and they said they dont need help. so can t do much more there.
Oh and the sythetic pitches in Newcastle to help with rain....

No Topper for today so they were very unsettled at the back. Back not scoring is atrocious. Some weren't up for it & they know it. Others only got serious in the final 30.

NORTHERN NSW Football (NNSWF) is investigating an incident in an NPL men?s match in which it is alleged that a spectator spiked an opposition goalkeeper?s water bottle with alcohol.
Edgeworth lodged a report with NNSWF after their 1-1 draw with Belmont-Swansea in first grade at Blacksmiths Oval on Saturday night, February 22.
Among a list of complaints, it is alleged that a crowd member entered the field of play during the first half, took the water bottle of Edgeworth keeper Ben Conway from behind the goal. It was laced with alcohol and grass and then put back in its original place.
Conway informed Edgeworth coaching staff at half-time that his water bottle had been tampered with.
A minor is believed to be involved in the incident.
Conway was also allegedly the subject of abuse from a separate spectator, who appeared to be intoxicated, as the keeper left the field at half-time. The abuse continued while the teams were in the dressing rooms.
NNSW confirmed they were investigating the allegations.
?Northern NSW Football have received a report of an incident from the round two NPL men?s NNSW first grade match between Belmont Swansea United and Edgeworth Eagles at Blacksmiths Oval which involved spectators and a player?s equipment,? a NNSWF spokesperson said.
?The matter is under investigation and no formal sanctions will be confirmed until the investigation is finalised.?
The investigation is expected to take a few weeks.
Belswans president Cameron Tapp said the club was working with NNSW regarding the incident.
?Nothing has been finalises as yet,? Tapp said. ?It is an on-going disciplinary matter. Until it is finalised, there is really nothing to say other than we are working with Northern NSW on the matter.?
Belswans are in their first season back in the NPL since 1999 after being runaway premiers of League One in 2024.
They currently sit in seventh spot on five points after four rounds.

Now I've been able to read the article, seems this isn't quite true, one kid involved, 2 adults involved, ban of selling alcohol. No doubt the kid who is a player and serves a 30 day ban from all football was egged on by these adults who supplied the beer.

Valo new coach. Things just got much worse. Mark my words.
Cas Wright could be the first woman to coach in NPL Men Northern NSW after taking on the first-grade role at Valentine this week.
Wright is the club?s technical director and was assistant coach of premier football before replacing Kallan Garbett this week.
Valentine Football Club said in a press release Garbett had vacated the head coaching position due to work commitments and Wright had been appointed in the position on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
?Valentine FC would like to thank Kal for his dedicated service to the club over many years,? the release said.
?His passion for the Phoenix and dedication to our cause will be sorely missed.?
Wright has extensive coaching experience and qualifications and is the only female first-grade coach in the NPL men?s competition, and to Northern NSW Football?s knowledge is the first.
?The club?s position is we?re not looking for a male or female coach, we?re looking for the best coach and were lucky enough to have Cas, who has an A licence,? Valentine Football Club secretary Rob Lavell told the Newcastle Herald.
?She?s one of the most qualified coaches in the region and we?ve got her to fill the void.
?If it is a fact that she is the first female coach, unreal, and Valentine has a very strong appetite to promote and grow women?s football.
?We?ve just added JDL [junior development league] teams to the mix in 2025, and in the future we?re hoping to further build out our representation of women?s football in the premier competitions, but no current plans.?
Wright, who previously coached in Northern NSW Football?s top-flight women?s competition at Valentine and South Wallsend, is looking forward to the challenge.
?It will definitely be a challenge and there will be more scrutiny on me than there would be on anyone else, and that?s unfortunate,? Wright said.
?Whether it?s a male or female coach, it should be just a coach. That?s just part of the territory. Without resilience, you can?t progress.?
Phoenix are coming off a 7-1 loss to second-placed Edgeworth last Sunday and face another big test on Saturday against Charlestown, who are in a three-way tussle for third spot, at Croudace Bay (4.30pm).
?The group trained really well this week with the news of Kal, we were all shocked by that,? Wright said.
?Every week?s a challenge in NPL. For me, it?s just about doing what I know. It?s quite a new group, so it?s just about getting the group together and understanding what roles they play within that team and how we can best utilise them.
?[Azzurri] will be a test. The key focus is just maintaining our style of football, understanding what their threats are and making sure we don?t concede. Our focus will be on a clean sheet and trying to pinch a goal from them.?
Also on Saturday, Lambton host Olympic (2pm) and Belmont Swansea are home to Weston (4.30pm). On Sunday, New Lambton play Cooks Hill at Alder Park (2pm) and Edgeworth travel to Maitland (4.30pm). Broadmeadow were playing Adamstown on Friday night.
In NPL Women, New Lambton host Olympic on Saturday (4pm) and Maitland meet Azzurri at Cooks Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday (4pm). Lake Macquarie were battling Adamstown on Friday night.

New Lambton Cookers had a send off. Obvious foul on edge of box slightly from behind with another defender coming across.

Can?t see Hughesy going anywhere anytime soon. Whilst it?s obviously been a very disappointing start to the season for the first grade men, he was bought in to run the whole football department men, women, youth and JDL.
He is doing plenty of work behind the scenes to keep everyone happy and it won?t be too long before things start heading in the right direction for the first grade men.

That's good to see your club has big plans and is patient for the new coach to implement his style. All I said was he must be under a bit of pressure for poor results. Unfortunately, this game mostly is measured by results whether you are Adam Hughes or Ang Postecoglou.

New Lambton are done for, and a season or two to rebuild in NL1 isn't the end of the world... unless Valentine's internal issues spiral and NL can claim a pro/rel playoff spot but that's a STRETCH
At the end of the day consistency wins out hence why Belswans should survive comfortably. They are arguably the most consistent team this season punching well above their weight.
My tip for the playoff is Valo. Maitland will kick into gear soon, it's a question of when, not if. Adamstown will end their purple patch soon, but have started strong enough for relegation not to be a threat this season.

To be fair though, what has the bloke achieved? Coached a bit of Jets academy then nearly went to China on a pro coaching contract, but Covid hit apparently. I could be wrong though.
Then a few years at Valo on good coin overseeing youth to 1st grade. Well the youth sort of did ok I think 🤷*♂️.
Just watching on YouTube now. I hope Maitland have a better plan than Valo.

I?m hearing they aren?t happy on the hill at Maitland, all the money poured into the place off the field as well

Well clearly not last night, maybe this weekend. But at least the women?s program is looking good.

Effort is there but being low on first grade experience hurts. The frustration that piddo displays explains it all.

Im sure the hefty match payments he receives from the club make that frustration easier to handle.

Just watched the Edgeworth v Chooks hill game. Edgeworths ground is one of the better grounds in the comp except for the large mounds on the six yard line. And while I?m at it BelSwans need to fill in the hole in the goal mouth. Just feed back. That?s all.

There was a time that you played Good Friday and then Easter Monday so 2 games over the weekend and we weren?t being paid what players are now

If you?re happy your are not playing then you probably should give the game away

Come on Red, I think it?s a wet weather weekend. We need a few off weekends, just in case of wet weather catch up games. Also gives the hard working volunteers a weekend away from football.

I can see both sides. Great weekend weather wise for football this year.
Would?ve liked to see a split round with Easter weekend with Anzac weekend this year.
Best of both worlds - some football to get to over both weekends for spectators and a break for volunteers/families/players.
Miss the 3 game gamedays.

100% I can't imagine trying to get enough volunteers together to put on a match day this weekend. Between Easter, school holidays and having ANZAC Day Friday there's no one around.

There was a time we weren't paid penalty rates and our kids were at high risk of getting polio. Not sure what your point is.

Not to mention, coaches and volunteers that put in the work on game day. Very easy for people who don't play, don't coach and don't volunteer to demand games but I'm sure next year they'll be knocking on their clubs door and volunteer their services to run a match day on Easter.
