Macarthur fielded a really strong lineup against MetroStars. Last season we played them in the cup we gave up a 2 goal lead to lose 2-4. Last time we played them in A-League we couldn't deal with Sawyer's height.

Got a feeling Susnjar may be suspended because he's received 2 yellows across the two matches so far. We will need Shaughnessy to deal with Sawyer.

Interested to see if we continue with the likes of Cooper, Bertoncello, Bracco (unless Aquilina is fit again) over Taylor and Natta....or if Adams is back fit again too.

Noah James perhaps doesn't appear to be an ACL either. I'd heard it was a "serious knee injury" but if he finished the season and is already doing lunges I reckon that 4 months is too quick a recovery to be doing what he is.

I reckon the starting line up won't change from

Delianov

Aquilina, Cooper, Susnjar, Wilmering

Grozos or Bayliss

Kota, Burgess, Badolato, Bertoncello

Rose

Bench - Baylis (GK), Shaugnessy, Natta, Grozos/Bayliss, Taylor, Fryer, Dobson,

Can they hurry up and get it to 2-0 so we can blow it and lose.

Semi finals bound. Avondale will be no push over.

Suspect it will be without Susnjar. I think he's suspended for accumulating 3 yellow cards

It's pretty poor that we have no idea who qualifies for ACL2 at this stage.

I have read that the Jets have already qualified, that the NPL teams can/cannot qualify and that the spot goes to next highest finish in last seasons league, which is WUN.....bizarre.

I don't believe NPL clubs are excluded, there are criteria to participate however. What these may be - who knows.

I have to say, this has been a really enjoyable run in the cup and there's (dare I say it) a few positives to take away.

Emergence of Youth
Max Cooper has brought clarity to why we let Phil Cancar go - and the move to swap him for Badolato appears a stroke of genius at this point.

Bertoncello has been solid and has covered a base of what Taylor brings. I don't think he's replacing him yet but I think we will see him a bit this season.

Bracco has even been serviceable at right back in coverage for Aquilina. Dobson has been energetic off the bench.

Add a taste of football for Debono, Fryer, Nunes, Scicluna - it's been good.

Midfield
Bayliss has been terrific and should be considered as the starter ahead of Grozos.

Burgess and Badolato have joined and performed very well.

Goal Scorers - we're spreading it around and we're a threat across the park. I wish we'd look to pull the trigger a bit more but there's strong early signs.

But, we still look a little fragile on the counter. We were better when Aquilina came on and I thought Wilmering had a good game against Ikonomidis. That said, we dealt with the aerial threat of Macarthur set pieces well.

I think this is what the supporters of teams like Sydney, Melbourne Victory and City feel all the time.

Commentators touched on it briefly last night but it’s going to be interesting to see which CB gets dropped once Shaughnessy is fully match fit. Both Cooper and Susjnar are looking good and you could see an argument for either or to keep their starting spot

Our biggest sore spot for me is our strikers. I like Gibson and he’s clearly a solid talent, but I’m not convinced we should be running with him as our main backup for the season, or the default starting striker like he was for a decent portion of last season if Rose goes down again with an injury

Just make us like Adelaide.

Play the kids, actually try and develop locals and sell em when they get too good for us to at least try and balance the books.

Be a chance in every game we play and every blue moon or so go on a heater to the top part of the table.

Most important though beat the gypos ****ern.

Not asking much.

Prob come back to games if that were the case.

I thought the first 20 minutes last night was some of the best I have seen a Jets team play in a long time, really confident crisp football. A little lack of cutting edge, but some nice play in the attacking third from the attacking midfielders / wingers.

The last 25 minutes they showed us we will have the ability to be dangerous on the counter with some quicker transitional play.

Overall I saw a lot to be excited about for the season ahead. Fingers crossed they can continue to build on that performance.

I don't believe NPL clubs are excluded, there are criteria to participate however. What these may be - who knows.

Correct - they can but must satisfy the following criteria to accept...

SPORTING CRITERIA License Applicant Club to have-

Head Coach for its first team, with an AFC ‘A’ Coaching Certificate

2 Youth Teams, participation in youth competitions, AFC C Licensed Coach.

Team Doctor or Physiotherapist.

Written contract with all its players in top team.

All its registered players provided with medical check up and treatment.

Approved Youth Development Programme.

There would be support from FA and time to remedy - in fact only six clubs are currently licensed to participate in Asia - Adelaide, Macarthur, Melb City, Melb Victory, Sydney FC and Wanderers.

Add to that we are asking semi pros to take time off work to travel several times.

Will be difficult.

I've always thought Wilmering is a better left wing than a left back. Would like to see him stay up the park and have a dedicated left back. Also thought our right side defence was very good yesterday.

Semi final is 3pm this Sunday. Squashes any chance of going down for me unfortunately.

Must be getting played around a bye for Avondale in NPL finals
